Abstract

The article discusses the progress toward the implementation of human papilomavirus (HPV) vaccination in the Americas from 2006 to 2010. It describes several countries that have implemented HPV vaccine in immunization programs. The mechanism of action and effectiveness of two HPV vaccine brands are also provided. The World Health Organization (WHO) has reportedly issued a position statement which recommended the inclusion of routine HPV vaccination of females in national immunization programs.
