Researchers at the National University of La Plata in Argentina have conducted a study on Bordetella bronchiseptica, a pathogenic bacterium causing respiratory infections in mammals. The study focused on the BvgR gene, which regulates virulence-related phenotypes in the bacterium. Findings suggest that BvgR plays a role in inhibiting biofilm formation and flagellin expression, while also upregulating genes associated with the type three secretion system. The research indicates that a B. bronchiseptica strain deficient in BvgR exhibited reduced cytotoxicity, elicited a milder immune response, and had decreased ability to persist in the lower respiratory tract of mice.
