The development of Industry 4.0 generates an important effect on the integration of value chains. The speed of this transformation takes various forms depending on the branches of industrial production and has a differentiated impact on SMEs, deepening the development gap in the different regions of the world. In this scenario, the SMEs of the manufacturing industry in Latin American countries find themselves immersed in an environment of great speed of transformation that in turn is complex and unknown in all its dimensions. Based on a study carried out in Argentina on industries from various branches of activity, the current level of technological development and the state of transformation in which they are found have been evaluated. As a result of the study, it has been detected that this type of companies faces a great lack of knowledge about the technologies that could be developed, implemented or integrated in their different functional areas. This ignorance turns out to be the main limitation of his transformation. That is why, in this article, the preliminary results of an ongoing research project are introduced in which a proposal for a Technological Transformation Process Model is being designed. This Model allows SMEs to know the products that they could implement, according to the added value needs in its different functional areas and adopt a path of transformation towards Industry 4.0.
