Abstract

The author reflects on the study conducted by Joung and colleagues which showed that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are indicators of prostate cancer risk among Korean men. The author states that prostate cancer incidence and mortality in Asian countries are increasing, possibly because of westernisation. Furthermore, SNPs can only act as signposts to mechanism, despite of their usefulness as biomarkers of risk.
