Abstract

The article discusses self-management of chronic disease and offers recommendations on its implementation in Australia. The challenges arising from the assessment of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of self-management programs are tackled. It is noted that the aim of self-management educational activities is to achieve behavioural change. The recommendations include developing health literary within the whole population, invest in research and evaluation, and pursue integration of self-management into clinical, educational and workplace contexts.
