There is no doubt that the increasing use of technology and digitalization leads to a more differentiated discussion of the digital transformation in work and daily life. The digital transformation can now be regarded as central technological and social phenomenon (Fürst, 2019). It has triggered a hype. To "be digital" is now the basic requirement for work and the participation in society (Hartmann et al., 2019; Mertala, 2019). To get digital, it is important to keep pace with the social, cultural, and economic changes which are driven by the digital transformation. Educational institutions over all levels of education are concerned with the question of how educational offerings must be designed to prepare learners for encountering and participating in the digital change. This question will also be addressed in this paper. The paper tries to answer the research question, what are central problems and issues of business education due to new and changing qualification and skill requirements of future workers in the age of digital transformation. The aim of the paper is to show what is needed to design modern digital educational offers to prepare learners for the encounter of the digital transformation and to encourage them to participate in shaping it. To achieve this research goal a literature-based analyses was carried out. In addition to central aspects for further development of business education, like the development of educational staff (e.g. teachers) and the vocational theory, it is important to think about issues of digital transformation for the general business education and development, school education and in-company education and training. The bundling of relevant issues on the digital transformation of business Education and their answers will help to shape the digital transformation and prepare the next generation for the future challenges at work and in daily life.

The purpose of this paper is to review the role of software within an ePortfolio (ePF) initiative for students of a five-semester master's program for Business Education and Development. The didactical aim of the ePF initiative presented is to enhance students' ability for (self-)reflection. An accompanying study of the implementation process allows for evaluating the impact of the ePF initiative as well as for the evaluation of its implementation. At six points of time students fill in questionnaires regarding their self-perception of their own competences and their rating of the side conditions of the implementation, leading to 1,925 questionnaires up to September 2018. Results show a positive impact on students' self-perception of their own competences and the perceived importance of self-reflective learning. Regarding the ePF implementation, students generally value the ePF work, especially with regard to the support of their reflection process by an external coach. However, they criticize the time intensity of the reflection process, resulting in the need of a clear communication of the aims of portfolio work to uphold students' motivation. Although the software only represents a side condition in the ePF initiative discussed, students have specifically criticized the software provided -- leading to the conclusion that the software might act as hygiene factor on students' motivation to reflect. From these findings arises the need for further research, which is subject to an interview study among the participants of the ePF initiative being currently in preparation.

Service Learning is a modern teaching-learning concept, which combines curricular content with supporting charitable organizations. The effects of courses using this concept on the students' competences development has already been described in empirical studies. Within these studies the aspects regarding the instructional design were less emphasized unlike in this paper in which they are focused on. In addition to a conceptual foundation of service-learning and a literature review on the impact of service-learning, two didactic prototypes will be presented in the form of empirical case studies. The focus of this research is to describe the attitudes and perceptions of undergraduate and graduate students attending service-learning courses and which conclusions can be drawn on the instructional design. In this article, the concept of service-learning is understood as a course- and credit-based learning and teaching method (in contrast to community-service), which require a specific instructional design to evolve purposeful and curricular learning connections between the course and service projects outside the course.

A distinct feature of the Austrian education system is its differentiation of programs in vocational education. Among these programs, the dual education system has a long tradition: Students undergo an apprenticeship in a company while also attending a vocational school in part-time. More than other forms of education, this combination of on-the-job training at the work place and instruction in vocational school requires constant adaptation to economic requirements. Against this background, a new instructional approach, so called areas of learning with a focus on competence were introduced in the vocational school Eisenstadt in the year 2010. The introduction of this approach offered an opportunity for comparing it with a "traditional" subject-oriented approach. Results of the comparison will be presented and discussed in this article.
