The problem of the euro adoption in the Baltic States is of current importance. There is a huge probability that Latvia will adopt the euro in 2014. Lithuania is planning to adopt the euro in 2015. In spite of using the euro already for two years, it is still important for Estonia to investigate the influence of the euro on its economy. In some countries the advantages of the euro exceed costs but in some countries the situation is opposite. This study investigated the factors that have the crucial role in the analysis of the euro adoption. Using the theory of the optimum currency areas, the author has found out some benefits and costs of the euro adoption in each of the Baltic States. The analysis of the macroeconomic figures was done using the criteria of the OCA theory. Mostly the criteria are connected with different aspects of the integration process between Baltic States and EMU. Also the synchronism of the business cycles has an important role. The results of the analysis showed that generally and in the theory the Baltic States are these candidates to the euro adoption that potentially get many benefits. However, the current debt crisis in the euro area reflects inability of some members such as Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain to perform in the efficient way. This obstacles may have negative influence on the Baltic States inside EMU. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
