Commercial and residential spaces are two core types of geographical objects in urban areas. However, these two types of spaces are not independent of each other. Spatial associations exist between them, and a thorough understanding of this spatial association is of great significance for improving the efficiency of urban spatial allocation and realizing scientific spatial planning and governance. Thus, in this paper, the spatial association between commercial and residential spaces in Beijing is quantified with GIS spatial analysis of the average nearest neighbor distance, kernel density, spatial correlation, and honeycomb grid analysis. Point-of-interest (POI) big data of the commercial and residential spaces is used in the quantification since this big data represents a comprehensive sampling of these two spaces. The results show that the spatial distributions of commercial and residential spaces are highly correlated, maintaining a relatively close consumption spatial association. However, the degrees of association between different commercial formats and residential spaces vary, presenting the spatial association characteristics of "integration of daily consumption and separation of nondaily consumption". The commercial formats of catering services, recreation and leisure services, specialty stores, and agricultural markets are strongly associated with the residential spaces. However, the development of frequently used commercial formats of daily consumption such as living services, convenience stores, and supermarkets appears to lag behind the development of residential spaces. In addition, large-scale comprehensive and specialized commercial formats such as shopping malls, home appliances and electronics stores, and home building materials markets are lagging behind the residential spaces over a wide range. Background: Vibrio furnissii is an emerging human pathogen closely related to V. fluvialis that causes acute gastroenteritis. V. furnissii infection has been reported to be rarer than V. fluvialis, but a multi-drug resistance plasmid has recently been discovered in V. furnissii. Methods: During daily monitoring at a general hospital in Beijing, China, seven V. furnissii strains were collected from patients aged over 14 years who presented with acute diarrhoea between April and October 2018. Genome analysis and comparison were performed for virulence and antimicrobial resistance genes, plasmids and transposon islands, together with phylogenetic analysis. Antimicrobial resistance to 19 antibiotics was investigated using the microbroth dilution method. Virulence phenotypes were investigated based on type VI secretion system (T6SS) expression and using a bacterial killing assay and a haemolysin assay. Results: Phylogenetic analysis based on single-nucleotide polymorphisms revealed a closer relationship between V. furnissii and V. fluvialis than between other Vibrio spp. The seven V. furnissii isolates were in different monophyletic clades in the phylogenetic tree, suggesting that the seven cases of gastroenteritis were independent. High resistance to cefazolin, tetracycline and streptomycin was found in the V. furnissii isolates at respective rates of 100.0%, 57.1% and 42.9%, and intermediate resistance to ampicillin/sulbactam and imipenem was observed at respective rates of 85.7% and 85.7%. Of the tested strains, VFBJ02 was resistant to both imipenem and meropenem, while VFBJ01, VFBJ02, VFBJ05 and VFBJ07 were multi-drug resistant. Transposon islands containing antibiotic resistance genes were found on the multi-drug resistance plasmid in VFBJ05. Such transposon islands also occurred in VFBJ07 but were located on the chromosome. The virulence-related genes T6SS, vfh, hupO, vfp and ilpA were widespread in V. furnissii. The results of the virulence phenotype assays demonstrated that our isolated V. furnissii strains encoded an activated T6SS and grew in large colonies with strong beta-haemolysis on blood agar. Conclusion: This study showed that diarrhoea associated with V. furnissii occurred sporadically and was more common than expected in the summer in Beijing, China. The antibiotic resistance of V. furnissii has unique characteristics compared with that of V. fluvialis. Fluoroquinolones and third-generation cephalosporins, such as ceftazidime and doxycycline, were effective at treating V. furnissii infection. Continua laboratory-based surveillance is needed for the prevention and control of V. furnissii infection, especially the dissemination of the antibiotic resistance genes in this pathogen. Objectives. To investigate whether Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection increases the risk of colorectal adenomatous polyp (CAP) in the context of age and gender. Methods. A total of 563 study subjects (male/female, 368/195) from Beijing, China, with higher nursing level who underwent colonoscopy were retrospectively collected. H. pylori and CAP were detected by carbon-13 urea breath test and colorectal colonoscopy. The correlations between the number, size, distribution, and pathological grade of CAP and H. pylori infection were analyzed. The population was further stratified by age and gender in order to examine the risk of H. pylori and CAP in the context of these variables. The influence of H. pylori on the risk of CAP was assessed by logistic regression model. Results. 315 participants were diagnosed with CAP, and 207 participants were classified as healthy controls. The prevalence of H. pylori in the CAP group was significantly higher than that in the healthy control group (119/315, 37.8% versus 44/207, 21.3%) (p < 0.001). The proportion of H. pylori positive plus CAP in participants <50 years old was significantly higher than that in participants >50 years old (87/250; 34.8% versus 32/65; 49.2%) (p = 0.033). Furthermore, H. pylori infection was identified as one of the major risk factors of CAP (OR = 2.679 ; 95% CI: 1.717-4.179, p < 0.001), independent of age, sex, and body mass index and was correlated with size, distribution, and pathological grading of CAP (p < 0.001). Conclusions. H. pylori is a major risk factor for CAP. Further studies are needed to assess the effects of H. pylori treatment or persistent infection on the occurrence or recurrence of CAP. The artificial light sources in urban areas constitute the primary source of stable nighttime illumination, which can be utilized to reflect the nighttime human activity and the conditions of public space lighting. The previous studies have focused on the evaluation of lighting environments in specific scenarios and the public's perception of these lighting environments. There has been limited analysis of the characteristics of public space lighting and its influencing factors in detail across different urban functional areas. This study primarily utilizes high-resolution SDGSAT-1 glimmer imagery and data from field measurements of lighting attributes to analyze the characteristics of public space lighting and its influencing factors in various urban functional areas. Furthermore, it establishes a quantitative relationship between measured illuminance and glimmer imagery to assess public space lighting levels. The results show that: (1) Various urban functional areas exhibit different illuminance levels, but they all maintain good illuminance uniformity. Additionally, to reduce the impact of the blue light spectrum on public visual perception, urban public space lighting primarily utilizes warm color temperatures with low color rendering properties. However, nighttime public space lighting cannot always achieve a balance between public comfort and high color rendering; (2) In the main urban area of Beijing, 98.5% of illuminance values fall within the range of 0 to 35 lx, indicating that most areas have good public lighting conditions. However, cases of over-illumination are also observed; (3) The building height has a positive correlation with public space lighting, while vegetation density exhibits a negative correlation. This study explored the characteristics of public space lighting in different urban functional areas and conducted a large-scale analysis of urban public lighting conditions using high-resolution nighttime images, providing evidence for the design and optimization of public space lighting in cities and better serving urban sustainable development, and contributing to the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal 11.7: By 2030, provide universal access to safe, inclusive, accessible, green and sustainable public spaces, particularly for women, children, older persons and persons with disabilities. • Detailed analysis of lighting characteristics using field-measured data. • Realize large-scale analysis of urban nighttime lighting levels and distribution. • Most public lighting is concentrated in urban roadways and commercial districts. • Influencing factors have different impacts on different urban functional areas. Introduction: The occurrence of autoimmune diseases (AIDs) in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients is widely reported, but little is known about the associated clinical phenotype. This study aims to evaluate the clinical features and prognosis of ALS patients with AID. Methods: This retrospective study was based on the ALS Registry dataset of Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 2013 to 2020. Clinical features and inflammatory biomarkers at registration were compared between ALS patients with coexisting AIDs and those without (controls). The medical records of immunotherapy were also collected. The Kaplan–Meier method and Cox proportional hazard model were used to study the survival of ALS patients. Results: There are 26 (1.6%) ALS patients with AIDs in our database. The ALS patients with AIDs had older ages at onset and poorer respiratory function than controls (p<0.05). After propensity score matching by sex, onset age, and disease duration, the difference in respiratory function remained significant between groups. We found no differences in overall survival between ALS patients with and without AIDs before and after matching (p = 0.836; p = 0.395). Older age at onset, rapid disease progression, and lower erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) were associated with shorter survival (p<0.05). Among ALS patients with AIDs, 8 (30.8%) had a history of immunotherapy and showed slightly prolonged survival compared with those without immunotherapy, but the results did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.355). Conclusions: Patients with coexisting ALS and AIDs had older onset age and poorer respiratory function but similar overall survival than those with pure ALS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article analysed the spatio-temporal changes in vegetation cover in the Beijing–Tianjin sandstorm source region in China and related these changes to vegetation types based on the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data set from 1982 to 2006. The annual maximum NDVI and peak time were identified. The different periods (1–12 months) of accumulated precipitation before the peak time were then calculated at the grid scale for each year. On this basis, the NDVI–rainfall relationship and the temporal responses in this area were studied by calculating the correlation coefficient between the annual maximum NDVI and different periods (1–12 months) of accumulated precipitation before the occurrence of the annual maximum NDVI for each pixel. The results show an upward trend in regional vegetation, a significant recovery efficiency for grassland, and the evident degradation of cropland. Peak plant growth is significantly related to precipitation and is strongly positively correlated with precipitation in the previous period (1 month) regardless of vegetation type. The regions showing the strongest correlations between peak plant growth and 1 month cumulative rainfall are the western desert grassland, grassland to forest in the transitional hill regions, the mountains of Yanshan, and the Greater Hinggan Mountains.
