The article investigates the increasing number of lead absorption and lead toxicity in children of lead battery plant workers in Bennington, Vermont. The investigation found out that tap water contained lead in a concentration above the drinking water standard of 0.05 mg/l from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In relation to this, the Vermont Department of Health asked the Center for Disease Control to participate in an evaluation of children for possible harmful effects of exposure to lead in water.
