The article identifies the risk factors for hyponatremia among marathon runners at the Boston Marathon held in Massachusetts in April 2002. The study shows that their is a significant proportion of high risk for hyponatremia among the nonelite marathon runners due to weight gain during the race and likewise have a longer time on the race. Moreover, the outcome measures showed the association of risk factors with the occurrence of hyponatremia. The most readily identified factor related to the disorder is discussed.
