CODES of ethics , *ETHICS , *MORAL development , *MEDICAL students , *STUDENT ethics , *MEDICAL coding , *MEDICAL ethics , *STANDARDIZATION - Abstract
In August 2018, the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), the body responsible for the supervision and standardization of medical professional practice in Brazil, published a national code of ethics for medical students (CEMS), which standardizes and suggests behaviors, based on the best moral and ethical values, for medical students, supporting the humanization of medicine and indirectly helping teachers and managers of medical courses. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the dissemination and awareness of scientific publications on the Brazilian CEMS code, and consisted of an integrative literature review of all publications related to the Brazilian CEMS published from 2005 to the present. We found 4 studies related to regional and university codes of ethics for medical students published from 2005 to 2022, and regarding the CEMS elaborated by the FCM, we found a single study from its launch in 2018 to 2022. A CEMS has universal importance, facilitating the ethical and human development of future physicians, and despite its importance in the training of physicians, there is a lack of published research on the subject in Brazil. PRISON psychology , *PSYCHOLOGY , *PRISONS , *RIGHT to health , *CRIMINAL sentencing , *PRISON system , *PUNISHMENT (Psychology) , *INDUSTRIAL hygiene - Abstract
In Brazil, the presence of psychology in prisons was established by the Criminal Sentence Execution Act, in 1984, and it was intensified in the past three decades. In the paper, the results of a study are discussed to understand the activity of psychologists in the prisons in Minas Gerais, based on clinical approaches to the work. We performed a qualitative research, with content analysis of documents, observations in five prisons, and interviews with 14 psychologists who work at these prisons. We verified that the role of psychology in prisons has been controversial, with different institutional intersections resulting from the security and punishment logic, which seems to frequently oppose professional ethical principles. The institutional demand for classifying prisoners overlaps with the monitoring of rehabilitation programs, set forth by law. This scenario, worsened by the lack of professionals, results in obstructions in the activity, the distress of the worker, trivialization of the violation of rights, and uncritical adhesion to the repressive mechanism of the institution. LEGAL norms , *PUBLIC policy (Law) , *HUMAN rights , *CRITICAL theory , *TREATIES , *CULTURAL relativism - Abstract
With the worsening of the migratory crisis today, due to the inability of different countries to comply with their obligations, the fragility of international agreements ends up being evidenced. Thus, the objective of this study is to understand the limits of legal norms based on the critical theory of human rights and the ethics of otherness, considering the basic assumptions of refugee rights, as established by the Refugee Statute and applied in Brazil with the law 9.474/1997. As far as it was possible to perceive, from the critical perspective of Douzinas e Flores, human rights were consolidated as a legal abstraction that compromised their effectiveness. Based on Lévinas’ ethics of otherness, it was understood that abstract universalism does not imply the recognition of the other refugee, and it is necessary to consider human rights as a priority in its intersubjective dimension, so that laws and public policies are constructed with the participation of refugees themselves, subject to rights. Objective: to analyze actions and barriers of intensive care nurses to practice the patient’s advocacy. Method: exploratory and descriptive study of qualitative nature. Data were collected between August 2018 and February 2019, with 75 Brazilian intensive care nurses. Participants were asked to list three situations experienced in need of defense of the patient whose result was positive for the nurse and three situations of need for defense of the patient whose result was negative for the nurse. The data were organized according to thematic content analysis. Results: 3 categories and 10 subcategories related to the actions of nurses emerged, in addition to 4 categories and 13 subcategories related to the barriers found. Final Considerations: the study demonstrated the actions that visualized the autonomous performance of intensive care nurses in the practice of the patient’s advocacy and that the practice of advocating should seek to overcome the imposition of daily barriers found, capable of impacting on the quality of care. HIGHER education & state , *HIGHER education , *COLLEGE curriculum , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges , *PLAGIARISM , *HONESTY - Abstract
This paper aims to reflect on the practice of plagiarism in academic texts in a Pedagogy Degree Course at a public higher education institution in the state of Rio de Janeiro / Brazil. Therefore, bibliographic research and field research were carried out, using the questionnaire technique, with fifty-three graduates from the last periods of the course. The results show that most of the interviewed undergraduate students understand what plagiarism is, have heard about it at some point during their graduation and have seen plagiarism during their course. On the other hand, many of them have some difficulties in carrying out academic work and, for them, this is one of the factors that lead to the practice of plagiarism, as well as the lack of time and the ease found by the presence of many ready materials on the internet. Objective. To understand the meaning of the nurse’s commitment to nursing care. Method. Phenomenological study, developed in seven Family Health Units in Salvador, Bahia, with twenty-one nurses, through the phenomenological interview. For the understanding of the discourses the Humanistic-Existential-Personalist Triad Configuration was used. Results. Nurses’ commitment has dimensions, their meaning represents the very essence of the profession, is directed to nursing care based on satisfaction, recognition, motivation, ethics and the search for a change in the health standards of the population. It was revealed in resource constraints in health services, in the limitations of professional competencies, in daily assignments, in the process of humanizing care, in solving user problems, in monitoring families and in linking with the community. Conclusions. It was possible to learn a face of the phenomenon by revealing the sense of commitment as the essence of nursing care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CRITICAL thinking , *CRITICAL currents , *RACISM , *CRITICAL analysis , *POSTURE - Abstract
Looking at some sociocultural aspects of contemporary Brazil, one can see a disturbing resemblance to the fictional country of Lima Barreto's work a century ago. This manuscript seeks to undertake a critical analysis of educational aspects, relating to the period of the current socio-politicaleconomic situation to which Brazilians are subjected at the beginning of this century, as well as the Bruzundangas, at the beginning of the last century. Barreto exposes social and ethical ills of a society that, on closer examination, has little changed. To reach these conclusions, theories of contemporary education-oriented scholars such as Toffler (1970, 1980), Morin (2003) and Bauman (2000, 2010) were used, based on the analyzes of Maingueneau (2010). By promoting the critical reflection of the current period, the news was based on the experience of the facts in media devices. In establishing this proposal, we seek to highlight sociocultural trauma crucial to understand the current society and the Brazilian educational system. The final considerations present incompleteness and inconclusive diagnoses of a complex, continental, multicultural and racist country, which has changed little or nothing in relation to the ethical posture of society. PROFESSIONAL ethics , *CODES of ethics , *ETHICS , *PHYSICAL education , *EDUCATION ethics - Abstract
BACKGROUND: The ethics theme almost always leads society to dilemmas that demand deep reflections with answers to the most diverse situations with which it is confronted. OBJECTIVE: It was proposed to reflect on the commandments of the code of ethics of the Physical Education professional in denouncing the irregular/illegal exercise of the profession and the vision that society holds towards those who are a whistleblower. METHODS: We initially sought to discuss the ethics, morals and legality established in Brazilian legislation, which consequently serves as the basis for the formation of the Code of Professional Ethics. RESULTS: it brought up something that may seem to be a reason for complaint by the Professional Councils, namely, the lack of whistleblowers so that it can effectively carry out the due inspection and consequent penalty for the infractions carried out. Although it is not the subject of the present study, it was decided to describe the articles, in order to demonstrate that the penalties tend to favor criminality, even if with less offensive potential, they allow to infer that the crime pays off. The person makes a bet, goes to work and earns his salary, if they charge him, they charge him! CONCLUSION: Considering that the illegal exercise of the profession is a criminal offense with less offensive potential, it is inferred that it is worth exercising the profession illegally until it is denounced or inspected, as there will be no greater consequences than providing community service and paying basic food baskets; with the possibility that none of this will materialize. In this case, it is admitted that the criminal offense still pays off to be practiced in Brazil in the case of illegal exercise of the Physical Education profession. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HEALTH care teams , *PRIMARY care , *BIOETHICS , *WORK in process , *FOCUS groups - Abstract
The objective of this work is to analyze the origin and the bioethical problems arising in the work process amongst teams in a Primary Health Care unit in Brazil. This qualitative research has three stages of operationalization: ethnography, interview, and focus group. The main bioethical problem found, which compromises the production of care at this level, is the lack of solidarity amongst the professionals in the teams and with the patients who do not belong to the sector of the territory under their responsibility. The reasons for this bioethical problem are associated with municipal management collection to increase production and the achievement of goals, the little appreciation for the team workers and their efforts at the job from the management and an asymmetric esteem. In this sense, bioethics in the context of public health becomes understanding and discussing the problems experienced to establish a framework of moral conscience and ethical action. At certain moments, a solidarity contribution from others, materialized in the recognition of being part of that production, is necessary for the effectiveness of a team. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ACCOUNTING ethics , *ACCOUNTING students , *PUBLIC demonstrations , *POWER (Social sciences) , *PROFESSIONS - Abstract
This article aims to understand, considering Hofstede's Theory (1997), the ethical perception of Accounting students when confronted with professional and personal dilemmas characterized by the Brazilian "jeitinho." This characteristic of the Brazilian nation and other cultural aspects can be understood by the highly bureaucratic national environment. This conjecture was born as a moral and a political protest, which is a reality abstraction acting on bureaucratic organizations. It is observed, according to the model proposed by Hofstede (1997), that the country is collectivist, resistant to uncertainty, feminine, with distance of power and long-term orientation. This last dimension can be explained by the "jeitinho", since Brazil is the only one among Asian nations, and this can reflect in ethical decisions. The main findings were evidenced among students from public and private universities and there was high rejection to issues involving racism, use of personal information and social networks passwords. However, issues such as the use of media to find new customers and to make marketing had great acceptability. Possible deviations of behavior were observed by the students, and more than 81% observed use of working time for personal business, again confirming a way to dribble the formal structural work to the detriment of themselves, a characteristic present in the Brazilian culture. Thus, we concluded the national culture and the "jeitinho" affect ethical decisions and that other comparative studies can add more findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to analyze the reasons for hospitalization by judicial order in the ICU, from the perspective of intensive care nurses. Methodology: qualitative, exploratory and analytical research whose participants were 108 intensive nurses, working in ICUs in the southeastern and southern regions of Brazil and who have already experienced situations of hospitalization by judicial order. The data were collected by a questionnaire, in the period between April 2015 to August 2016 and analyzed according to the Content Analysis. Results: the categories were analyzed by the increase in demand for the ICU service and lack of institutional structure and in the region of the patient's residence. SOCIAL psychology , *SOCIAL responsibility , *PROFESSIONAL identity , *ETHICS , *SOCIAL conditions in Brazil - Abstract
In Brazil, the concept of social responsibility has been largely discussed in the past few decades. Due to the polysemy of this notion, in this paper, I sought to discuss and problematize some of its current uses, taking as a case study papers and books in Psychology. To do so, I conducted a literature review on physical and virtual databases and organized the information produced in two analytic frames: the first one presents the ways the notion of social responsibility is addressed in each of the texts and the second presents a synthesis of the previous frames. The analysis of these materials suggests that there are many objectives, justifications, methods and theories that support social responsible practices. So it is important not to only say someone is socially responsible, but explicit what one means when uses this expressions, as well as the epistemological, ontological and political precepts that underlies it. The aim is to present an analysis of ethical and moral issues that arose during discussions with young people about advertising messages, to which they had been exposed. Such discussions were focused on the theme "social interactions and technology use". This is a qualitative study based both on literature and documental research and on focus groups, using axiological analysis. The analysis revealed youngsters' perception on what they consider as positive and negative aspects of message contents. They highlight the role played by advertising in the process of coexisting and they understand that advertising messages should aim to promote good relationships and welfare among individuals. ETHICS , *HIGHER education , *RESEARCH ethics - Abstract
The ethics as a historical movement is the result of combinations, negotiations, disputes of projects, finally integration between entities with differences and diversities. In recent years, the theme has been recurring in higher education when it comes to the research and its submission to the ethics commissions opinion installed in all territories of Brazil. Here, we question the conception of the ethics, approached from a sociological perspective, describing the motion of the committees in the 2010s and its influence on the guidance on the research, development and dissemination of knowledge. The methodology used was theoretical research, exploring productions in books, journal articles and news published by the printed and digital media, as well as some discussions in academic institutions. The analysis has two sections: first based on Martins and Bicudo using phenomenological interview and the second on method of analysis of moral problems proposed by Diego Gracia. Nurses of public institution in Salvador (BA) participated. Results: the nurses understand the meaning of ethical dilemma as decisions in the face of situations experience and the conflict due to divergence of opinions. They experience conflicts and dilemma due to the lack of in vacancies for the demand of patients, lack of planning for the care of patient in post-operation and decision-making in the face of conflicts and dilemma.
