Introduction: Burnout Syndrome (BS) emerges in the context of precarious working conditions, and manifests itself through a set of signs and symptoms that affect the worker's psychology due to exposure to stressors in the work environment. Objective: to analyze the prevalence and factors associated with Burnout Syndrome (BS) in intensive care nurses. Method: cross-sectional and analytical study, carried out with 94 nurses in intensive care units of a public hospital in the state of Bahia. The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and a questionnaire containing sociodemographic, cultural and occupational issues were used. Results: 62.8% showed high emotional exhaustion; 64.9% high depersonalization and 77.7% high reduction in professional achievement. The factors associated with BS were: age up to 38 years (PR: 2.38; 95% CI: 1.44-3.94), not having a partner (PR: 1.97; 95% CI: 1.17-3.32), job dissatisfaction (PR: 1.78; 95% CI: 1.15-2.75), having back pain (PR: 3.33; 95% CI: 1.72-6.42), anxiety (PR: 2.33; 95% CI: 1.22-4.46) and sleep pattern up to 5 hours (PR: 1.67; 95% CI: 1.08-2.59). It was found that having children is a protective index (PR: 0.55; 95% CI: 0.33-0.90). Conclusion: there is a considered high percentage of nurses with a diagnosis suggestive of the syndrome (43.6%), as well as the existence of associated factors. It is essential that the institution offers a healthy work environment, in which prevention is the best way for these professionals not to become targets of the syndrome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The incidence of Burnout Syndrome (BS) among nurses is higher. For this group, nursing residents undergo periodic assessments regarding compliance with the care workload in closed sectors, such as Intensive Care and Emergency Care, that put them at higher risk for the syndrome. Objective: Identify the prevalence and related factors for BS in nursing residents. Material and Methods: Quantitative, analytical, cross-sectional study with 106 nurses enrolled in the Residency program in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, based on the following instruments: Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey Scale and an occupational sociodemographic questionnaire. Non-parametric statistical tests for independent samples were applied and Mann-Whitney test 15 was used for quantitative variables. Results: The results show that variable changes in relationships indicates stage 4 of the BS when compared to the other stages. For the other variables, there were no statistically significant differences. Discussion: Studies reveal that work-family balance is closely related to how job satisfaction is affected and mitigates the negative effects of BS. Conclusions: Consequences on relation patterns are among the most affected symptoms in the lives of nursing residents. This study is expected to contribute to raising awareness of the problem in question and to improve the quality of work life of resident nurses, detecting and preventing their illness. Objective: to investigate the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome among health professions undergraduate students and its association with sociodemographic and academic variables. Method: cross-sectional study, carried out with 231 health professions undergraduate students between September and October 2020. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey was applied to evaluate Burnout Syndrome and a questionnaire was associated with a survey of sociodemographic and academic variables. The association between categorical variables was evaluated using the Chi-square and Fisher’s Exact tests. A 5% significance level was considered. Results: the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome was 31.2%. The course variable showed statistical significance (p<0.05) for Burnout Syndrome, with higher prevalence among Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry students. Objective: the aim of this study was to investigate possible associations between Burnout, use of hypnotics and sleep quality among medical students. Method: a cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted among medical students of a university center of northeastern Brazil, with the problembased learning (PBL) methodology. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and a sociodemographic questionnaire were applied among pre-clerkship students of the course. Results: the study included 523 students and found 48 (9.2%) with tridimensional diagnosis criteria for Burnout syndrome (BS). Poor sleep quality and use of hypnotic drugs for sleep were associated with BS (p < 0.001 and p = 0.003, respectively). There were no statistical differences in age, gender, religion, marital status, student financing and performing paid work, between individuals with and without BS. Burnout syndrome in adults or workers has been the subject of growing research worldwide. However, psychological exhaustion among university students needs to be discussed in Brazil. The aim of this study was to identify the presence of burnout and its subscales in psychology students. A cross-sectional study descriptive study was carried out on volunteer students from a Psychology course at a public university in the inland of Brazilian Northeast region. Demographic questionnaire and Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey (MBI-SS) validated for Portuguese were applied. The frequency ranges of burnout (high emotional exhaustion, high disbelief, and low professional effectiveness) and their individual subscales were compared by gender, age group and academic periods (first, third, fifth, seventh and ninth). Nonparametric data were statistically analyzed using chi-square test for independent samples and Fisher's exact post-test, considering 95% or 90% confidence levels. In the sample os 135 participants, there was a general prevalence in burnout of 20%. There was no association of burnout regarding gender or age group. There were differences between the periods with third and fifth period showing higher burnout than the others, and a greater association of two subscales in the analyzed variables. The results highlighted the use of MBI-SS and enhanced the importance of monitoring the students' mental health during their university education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
