Racialized social inequality is considered a structural problem in Brazil and has been a political priority of recent progressist governments. This understanding is not backed up by the so-called New Right, who understands inequality as an inherent principle of a God-given "order" and question of personal capability and merit. In this study, I explore the ideological roots of this powerful Rightist narrative by looking at the Brazilian canon of traditional conservative thought and its influence on New Right discourse. The results show that the core ideas stem from neo-Thomist interpretations of late-scholastic scholarship, which were promoted in Brazil through the Vatican's integrist reaction to modernization during the First Republic. Since then, Brazilian conservatives have successfully used these religious legitimizations of naturalized inequality to constrain State-driven social reformism and join forces with neoliberalism through the invention of the supposed late scholastic roots of the Austrian School of Economics. After redemocratization, a recycled version of this liberal-conservative claim for less "State" and more "Brazil" (as guided by theocratic traditional order), promoted mainly by the philosopher and online influencer Olavo de Carvalho, has fueled the desecularizing discourse of the New Right and their attempt to conserve the colonial social hierarchy in Brazil. Drawing on the analysis of biographical interviews with Brazilian activists, this article explores youth activism in radical right movements as a challenge to and indicator of 21st-century democratic transformation through the lens of youth participation studies. In recognition of the symbolic boundaries that institutionalized discourses of democratic youth participation produce, participation in radical right movements is analysed as a case of 'liminal participation'. The article begins with a brief overview of the literature on youth participation in radical right movements in Brazil and Europe, with a focus on how the concept of 'liminal participation' can be used to analyse it. We then reconstruct four biographies and discuss how liminality emerges as a strategy and a negotiation status, related to processes of youth politicization. Finally, the findings are related to a broader reflection on democracy and participation in a society of risks in which conflict and antagonism play a central role. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As a result of research on the articulation, in the current Brazil, between State, dependent capitalism and new right, this text emphasizes structural and conjunctural questions of the peculiarities of capitalism in the Country, with the objective of discussing the relations between State, social classes, bourgeois autocracy, restricted democracy, New Right and authoritarianism. Following the dialectical historical materialist perspective and referenced in a specialized literature review, the text is structured and presents as results: the understanding of the capitalist state as a contradictory social relationship shaped by class struggles, its particularities in Brazil under the bases of dependent capitalism; heteronomy, a composite pattern of bourgeois hegemony and the limits of democracy in Brazil, as structural and dynamic axes of Brazilian specificity; and authoritarianism as a product of the ideological current of the New Right, with a tendency to radicalization, present in national political actions that follow characteristics of Ur-fascism.
