Introduction: Digitalization has revolutionized dentistry in the last decade. Current application in digitization has increased which includes use of various systems such as cone-beam computed tomography for implant purpose, temporomandibular joint disease diagnosis, utilization of computer-aided design–computer-aided manufacturing system (CAD-CAM system) for prosthodontics. The usage of digital dentistry is made right from diagnosis to treatment planning which reduces the time consumption & human efforts to a great extent & increases accuracy for treatment planning. Therefore, this review focuses on analysis of implementation of digitization in dentistry from 2011 to 2021. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the scientific literature on digitization in dentistry by examining the origin of manuscripts, study types, and levels of evidence. Materials and Methods: The study retrieved data from journals indexed in Scopus. Subsequently, a descriptive analysis was conducted on bibliographic data, collaboration network, and keyword co-occurrence. The articles were then classified based on their field of interest, main research question, study type, and level of evidence. Results: The study has identified 203 original papers on digital dentistry, published in 112 journals, and co-authored by 1436 individuals affiliated with 89 institutions from 45 countries. While the majority (81.4%) of these papers were from a single country, we observed high collaboration among institutions from the United States, Britain, and Brazil. The primary focus of these papers was on the potential uses of digital technology in dentistry. Regarding study type, most articles were systematic reviews, cross-sectional studies, and original research papers. Conclusion: Integrating digital technology in dentistry has brought numerous benefits, including a more organized and streamlined approach to medical records and thorough investigation and treatment planning within a shorter timeframe. Furthermore, digital technology enables the accurate detection of even the minutest details, minimizing errors and eliminating human bias. The use of three-dimensional imaging techniques allows for the precise determination of objects' geometrical characteristics and spatial orientation, resulting in the accurate placement of implants and prosthetics. Clinical Relevance: Digitization in dentistry has opened a whole new world for practitioners to focus on the patient satisfaction approach. The objective of this case report is to describe the treatment of a dentofacial and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) deformity by means of reconstruction with a customized TMJ prosthesis and orthognathic surgery. The article discusses the therapeutic approach and the importance of functional and esthetic rehabilitation of the patient. A 22-year-old man displayed sequelae of osteomyelitis diagnosed at 6 years of age, including facial asymmetry, laterognathism, unsatisfactory occlusion, and mandibular retrognathism. Computed tomography revealed a deformity of the left mandibular condyle, ramus, and fossa. The patient underwent 1-stage surgery that involved bimaxillary orthognathic surgery and mentoplasty in conjunction with reconstruction of the left TMJ with a customized prosthesis. Postoperatively, substantial improvement was observed in the patient's facial pattern and masticatory function, and the beneficial changes have been maintained through 2 years of follow-up. The positive outcome in this patient suggests that TMJ reconstruction using a customized prosthesis in combination with computer-guided orthognathic surgery can be a satisfactory approach to correct a mandibular defect. The advantages of 1-stage surgery for the surgeon include shorter treatment time and more predictable results, while the benefits for the patient are good esthetic and functional results and improved quality of life. The study on cadavers, although considered fundamental in the teaching of human anatomy, is limited in several universities, mainly due to the acquisition and manipulation of cadaveric material. Throughout history, several artificial anatomical models have been used to complement the real anatomical pieces. The present study offers a new alternative: the making of three-dimensional models from Computed Tomography (3D-CT) patient image acquisition. CT images from the USP University Hospital database were used. Patients underwent examinations for reasons other than the present study and were anonymized to maintain confidentiality. The CT slices obtained in thin cross-sections (approximately 1.0 mm thick) were converted into three-dimensional images by a technique named Volume Rendering for visualization of soft tissue and bone. The reconstructions were then converted to an STL (Standard Triangle Language) model and printed through two printers (LONGER LK4 Pro® and Sethi S3®), using PLA and ABS filaments. The 3D impressions of the thigh and leg muscles obtained better visual quality, being able to readily identify the local musculature. The images of the face, heart, and head bones, although easily identifiable, although seemed to present lower quality aesthetic results. This pilot study may be one of the first to perform 3D impressions of images from CT to visualize the musculature in Brazil and may become an additional tool for teaching. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article is an excerpt from a master's thesis developed in Brazil, in which we approach recurrent and linear sequences, given some intriguing particularities in their definitions and the scarcity of discussion of this topic in the literature of the History of Mathematics, especially with regard to its geometric representation. Thus, we aim to present the identities of Fibonacci, Lucas, Jacobsthal and Padovan in a three-dimensional visualization with the contribution of GeoGebra software. The research methodology chosen was bibliographical, exploratory in nature, where we have theoretical support in works such as Oliveira and Alves (2019), Silva (2017), Souza and Alves (2018), Vieira and Alves (2020). This research brings as results a set of geometric constructions of the identities of the proposed sequences, in three-dimensional perspective, being a support for future works developed around this theme. GeoGebra was essential in the process of constructing and visualizing the sequences, as it provided strategies for understanding the recurrence relations and the properties of the Fibonacci, Lucas, Jacobsthal and Padovan sequences, through the behavior of the visual representations of these identities. • Sedimentological and structural characterization of the Ariri Formation in the Santos Basin. • Evidence for halokinetic deformations during salt deposition. • Influence of syn-salt deformation on evaporite depositional system. • Halokinesis during a salt giant deposition strongly influences later salt tectonics. Halokinetic deformations synchronous with salt deposition are processes already suggested in several salt giants including the Lower Cretaceous salt deposits of the Santos Basin in Brazil. However, the dynamics of syn-depositional deformation has never been studied in a coherent depositional and structural framework. This study investigates well data and high-resolution 3D seismic images in the evaporitic Ariri Formation of the Santos Basin to understand the intra-salt deformations, estimate their timing and establish a link with the depositional setting of the evaporites. The seismic data shows numerous examples of intra-salt onlaps, erosive surfaces and sedimentary wedges highlighting the occurrence of deformations during salt deposition. Two dominant processes have initiated salt creep: the density contrasts between a dense upper anhydrite-rich unit and a less dense lower halite-dominated unit and the gravitational system promoted by the late-rift subsidence. Updip, extension prevailed during salt deposition and favored a boudinage of the Ariri Formation. Downdip, early contraction favored the development of well-developed intra-salt minibasins. Deformation occurring during salt deposition and induced topographic relief likely influenced the hydrological conditions. It probably led to intra-salt dissolution/reprecipitation processes and hyper-saline conditions favoring the precipitation of tachyhydrite deposits in localized intra-salt depocenters. Eventually, post-salt minibasins systematically developed above syn-salt depocenters, indicating that syn-salt deposition deformation had a strong impact on post-salt evolution. This new understanding of the intra-salt deformation in the Santos Basin paves the way for new interpretations of halokinetic deformations reported elsewhere in the South Atlantic or in other salt-giant provinces. Microfossils have been found in most of theMesozoic basins of Brazil, allowing the establishment of important biozones. Despite being recognized for more than half century in the Barremian from the Recôncavo Basin, the taxonomy of the benthic foraminifera remained unsolved likewise its paleoenviromental implications. In this study, we have applied 2D and 3D imaging techniques to resolve this issue and have identified two agglutinated foraminiferal genera (Glomospirella and Paratrochamminoides) and a new species Paratrochamminoides kaminskii sp. nov. Moreover, based on the taxonomy, few paleoenvironmental insights on the foraminifera-bearing strata are discussed. The occurrence of the typically shallow marine species Glomospirella arctica in the studied section, does not allow the proposition of a marine ingression, since it is not supported by a marine/transitional association of microfossils. On the other hand, the hypothesis of transport of foraminifera by birds (avian zoocoria) is plausible, although there are no further elements to corroborate it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study was to analyze the volume and area of sphenoid sinuses of Brazilian individuals' cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images using the beta version of the DDS-Pro™ 2.14.2&#95;2022 software (DPP Systems, Czestochowa, Poland), to assess a potential correlation to sex, age, skin color, and nutritional status, and to evaluate differences between the right and left sides. Three-dimensional volume and area measurements were made with the software using CBCT images of 113 living Brazilian individuals of both sexes (67 females and 46 males). TEM, rTEM, and R were used to assess the reproducibility of inter- and intra-examiner measurements. The measurement means were estimated with 95% confidence intervals according to sex and age group. There were no significant differences between the left and right sides for both volume and area and between the sexes and black and white individuals. Volume and area were significantly higher in 18 years or older (p < 0.05) and in individuals with normal body mass index (BMI) (p < 0.05). The obtained results do not allow indicating the use of sphenoid sinuses volume and area measurements to estimate sexual dimorphism, and the same occurred for skin color. However, such measures can help to estimate age. Further studies are suggested with a larger sample, especially for the nutritional status variable., (© 2023. Purpose: To compare volumetric changes after sinus augmentation of completely edentulous maxillae with either autogenous or allogeneic fresh-frozen bone particles. Materials and Methods: This split-mouth study in patients who required bilateral sinus grafting used autograft particles for one sinus and allograft particles for the contralateral sinus. The grafted sinuses were left to heal for 6 months prior to implant insertion. All patients underwent four computed tomography scans: prior to augmentation and 1 week, 6 months, and 12 months after grafting. Computer software was used to analyze bone graft volume in each scan. Results: Fifteen patients (8 men, 1 women) with a mean age of 54 ± 5 years (range, 48 to 60 years) took part and underwent 30 sinus augmentation procedures. Mean autograft and allograft volumes were not statistically significantly different at each time point (1 week: 2.01 ± 0.43 cm³; vs 2.46 ± 0.79 cm³; 6 months: 1.53 ± 0.49 cm³ vs 1.75 ± 0.64 cm#179;; and 12 months: 1.38 ± 0.43 cm#179; vs 1.59 ± 0.56 cm#179;, respectively). Mean volumetric reductions of 31.35% and 35.36% (23.9% and 29.9% in the 6 months prior to implant insertion, followed by an additional 9% and 9% in the following 6 months), relative to 1 week postgrafting, were noted for the autograft and allograft groups, respectively, after 12 months. Conclusion: On the basis of this split-mouth study of 15 patients, there was no statistically significant volumetric difference after 12 months between the use of autograft or allografts for sinus augmentation. Background: This study compared the effects of rapid maxillary expansion (RME) and slow maxillary expansion (SME) using cone‐beam computed tomography (CBCT). Aim: To evaluate the skeletal and dentoalveolar effects produced by two different maxillary expansion protocols. Design: Eligibility criteria included maxillary transverse deficiencies in children (mean age, 8.18 years old), randomly assigned to either RME or SME. At the outcome analysis phase, a sample of 29 subjects were analysed (RME group, N = 16 and SME group, N = 13). CBCT scans taken before expansion and 6 months later were evaluated. Five posterior and 6 anterior transverse measurements were made at different vertical levels. Treatment changes were analysed using paired t tests; independent t tests were used to compare the two groups. Results: There were statistically significant (P<.05) increases in maxillary width at the skeletal, alveolar, and dental levels for both groups, with significantly smaller increases at the more superior than inferior levels. The RME group exhibited statistically larger width increases than the SME group for all measures except interorbital width, anterior alveolar process width, and intercanine width. The group differences were greater for anterior than posterior apical base widths. Conclusions: Rapid maxillary expansion produced greater orthopaedic effects than slow maxillary expansion, with the greatest effects occurring in the anterior apical base. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Magnetotelluric (MT) data from 49 broadband and 23 long period stations, covering periods between 10−3 and 104 s, were measured along a NNW-SSE profile of approximately 470 km, crossing the Parnaíba Basin, Borborema Province and São Francisco Craton in northeastern Brazil. The geotectonic scenario of the study region comprehends a complex structural framework formed during the Brasiliano orogenic collage. The MT data were processed to obtain the impedance tensor estimates for each MT site using a robust technique and then followed by a dimensional analysis via both the rotational invariants (WAL invariants) of the magnetotelluric tensor and the phase tensor. The two approaches indicated a three-dimensional nature of the region, allowing to proceed to 3D inversion, despite the data distribution along a profile. Several inversion trials of the full impedance tensor, tipper and tipper combined with impedance tensor resulted in a final 3D resistivity model, which suggests a division of the profile into three major zones. A sub horizontal resistive crustal block, interpreted as being part of the Parnaíba block, characterizes the western zone. A mosaic of resistive and conductive zones, which integrates the extended fold belt of the Borborema Province, composes the central zone. In the interface between the central and the eastern zones, there is a sub vertical conductive region limiting two resistive blocks, interpreted as a suture zone. This suture divides tectonic provinces and is supposed to be related with a Neoproterozoic collisional system. The 3D MT imaging recovered the structural framework under the Parnaiba Basin and marked the main lineaments. Objective: To compare the amplitude of mandibular movement measurements obtained by two different methods: the ultrasound JAM system and digital caliper rule in individuals with temporomandibular disorder (TMD) vs.Controls: Method: Sixty individuals, without distinction between sex and age were evaluated: 30 with diagnosis of TMD (RDC/TMD) and 30 controls. Mandibular movements of opening, protrusion, and left and right laterality were measured by means of two Instruments: Digital caliper rule and 3D ultrasonic Jaw Motion Analyzer (JMA-Zebris Medizintechnik, Isny/Allgäu, Germany). Data obtained were analyzed by descriptive analysis and compared by parametric statistics (Student's t-test), adopting a 5% level of significance.Results: When comparing the digital caliper rule with JMA, no significant differences were found for any of the movements evaluated (p > 0.05). In the comparison between groups, a difference was found in protrusion for both instruments used: JMA (p = 0.004) and digital caliper rule (p = 0.003), with the TMD group presenting reduced movement of protrusion when compared with the control group.Discussion: This study found no differences in obtaining the amplitude of mandibular movements when using the digital caliper rule or JMA system; both methods are effective. However, the ultrasonic system allows other types of analyses to be performed, such as the trajectory and speed of movement. Although the link between sagittal plane motion and exercise intensity has been highlighted, no study assessed if different workloads lead to changes in three-dimensional cycling kinematics. This study compared three-dimensional joint and segment kinematics between competitive and recreational road cyclists across different workloads. Twenty-four road male cyclists (12 competitive and 12 recreational) underwent an incremental workload test to determine aerobic peak power output. In a following session, cyclists performed four trials at sub-maximal workloads (65, 75, 85 and 95% of their aerobic peak power output) at 90 rpm of pedalling cadence. Mean hip adduction, thigh rotation, shank rotation, pelvis inclination (latero-lateral and anterior-posterior), spine inclination and rotation were computed at the power section of the crank cycle (12 o'clock to 6 o'clock crank positions) using three-dimensional kinematics. Greater lateral spine inclination (p < .01, 5-16%, effect sizes = 0.09-0.25) and larger spine rotation (p < .01, 16-29%, effect sizes = 0.31-0.70) were observed for recreational cyclists than competitive cyclists across workload trials. No differences in segment and joint angles were observed from changes in workload with significant individual effects on spine inclination (p < .01). No workload effects were found in segment angles but differences, although small, existed when comparing competitive road to recreational cyclists. Learning objects (LOs) associated with augmented reality have been used as attractive new technologic tools in the educational process. However, the acceptance of new LOs must be verified with the purpose of using these innovations in the learning process in general. The aim of this study was to develop a new LO and investigate the acceptance of gold onlay in teaching preparation design at a dental school in Brazil. Questionnaires were designed to assess, first, the users' computational ability and knowledge of computers (Q1) and, second, the users' acceptance of the new LO (Q2). For both questionnaires, the internal consistency index was calculated to determine whether the questions were measuring the same construct. The reliability of Q2 was measured with a retest procedure. The LO was tested by dental students (n=28), professors and postgraduate students in dentistry and prosthetics (n=30), and dentists participating in a continuing education or remedial course in dentistry and/or prosthetics (n=19). Analyses of internal consistency (Kappa coefficient and Cronbach's alpha) demonstrated a high degree of confidence in the questionnaires. Tests for simple linear regressions were conducted between the response variable (Q2) and the following explanative variables: the Q1 score, age, gender, and group. The results showed wide acceptance regardless of the subjects' computational ability (p=0.99; R2=0), gender (p=0.27; R2=1.6%), age (p=0.27; R2=0.1%), or group (p=0.53; R2=1.9%). Abstract: Provenance studies of Mass-Transport Deposits (MTDs) frequently rely on the analysis of kinematic indicators. In this work, we use seismic facies analyses, measurements of preserved blocks, and correlations between MTDs thickness and salt diapir geometry to introduce a new method to estimate the provenance of MTDs on 3D seismic data. The method, applied to a high-quality 3D seismic volume from the Espírito Santo Basin (SE Brazil), provides information on the location of source areas of MTDs, their bulk composition, and on their directions of transport. Whenever blocks of strata are found, their orthogonal axes are measured to estimate parameters such as Maximum Projection Sphericity Index (MPSI), Oblate Prolate Index (OPI), and ratio of short and intermediate axes (ds/di). These parameters are used to quantify the relative degrees of remobilization and transport of MTDs. Statistical data of importance include the variation of MTDs thickness with the diameter and distance from the centre of growing salt diapirs. In addition, the presence of cubic or equant blocks with c/a > 0.4 and c/b > 0.65 ratios are typical of proximal areas in MTDs, reflecting small transporting distances. Our work is important because it shows that distinct correlation coefficients exist between the thickness of MTDs and diameter of salt diapirs. Positive coefficients of correlation between diapir diameter and MTD thickness characterise active diapirism during the deposition of MTDs. This quantification allows the interpreters to distinguish MTDs sourced from local diapirs from MTDs sourced from more distal regions on the continental slope. Thus, the new method used in this research provides an alternative technique to kinematic indicators for determining the provenance of mass transport deposits on continental margins. Abstract: Kimberlite pipes are significant source rocks that form primary diamond deposits. Usually, the low resistivity of kimberlite produces a significant contrast in electrical resistivity, which can be mapped using electromagnetic EM methods. The Regis kimberlite is located in a well-known diamondiferous province in central Brazil. The main tectonic feature of the area is a northwest–southeast major crustal fracture zone that extends for more than 3000km within the Brazilian territory, where Regis and several other kimberlites have intruded. In this paper, we present an audiomagnetotelluric (AMT) study at the Regis pipe. AMT data were collected in the 10Hz–100kHz frequency range at 111 stations on a grid, and three-dimensional (3D) inversions were used to generate a resistivity model of the pipe. Our interpretation was corroborated by available geological information of six drill holes. The final model shows an asymmetric conically shaped body with a conductivity range of 2 to 70ohm.m and a depth of 0 to 550m. These conductive sources were associated with crater lake sediments in the upper part and the main kimberlite diatreme at depth. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Three-dimensional (3D) digital preservation aims at generating 3D models of objects that have cultural or scientific value. It allows realistic visualization of objects through virtual museums or scientific applications, and the restoration of the preserved object in case of natural wear or accidents. This work contributes to this research area by presenting a method to improve color texture quality of 3D models obtained from color and depth images of a laser scanner. Although this device offers precise depth information, the resulting color information is still poor and limits the generation of realistic textures. Our approach is to capture photographs of the object with a high-resolution digital camera and use them to generate a new color texture for the 3D model. Our work proposes a practical technique, easy to replicate, to generate high quality textures for 3D models from photographs. The method is composed by three main steps: (1) calibration of the image acquisition devices; (2) data acquisition; and (3) texture generation. In this paper, we detail our color texture generation method and apply it on the digital preservation of many artworks made by native Brazilians (indians) from the Wauja and Karaja communities. These indigenous communities are acknowledged as great ceramic artists, each bearing their own main themes, using a very rich symbolism in their paintings. Their artworks represent important aspects of the native South American culture and their digital preservation is motivated by three main reasons: (1) their fragility; (2) the paintings loose their original appearance with time; and (3) the possibility of extinction of these communities. We present several results of preserved artworks with enhanced quality realistic texture maps. Also, we present a methodology to analyze the quality and accuracy of texture maps. Objective: The aim of the present study was to establish the normal range for fetal UPR in the Brazilian population. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed in 167 normal singleton fetuses with gestational ages ranging from 20 to 40 weeks. UPR was measured using 3-D US virtual organ computer-aided analysis (VOCAL). UPR (in ml/h) was calculated during the filling phase by using the equation UPR = (VFB(2) - VFB(1))/time. The values for UPR were plotted as a function of gestational age to obtain a nomogram. Interobserver reliability was also investigated by using Spearman's rank correlation for comparison of paired samples in cases of replication between observers. Bland and Altman's graphical approach was utilized to investigate the agreement between observers. Results: A total of 167 normal singleton fetuses with gestational age between 20 and 40 weeks were investigated. Nine of them were excluded because the image quality was insufficient for correct visualization of the bladder contour. Linear regression analysis of UPR as a function of gestational age generated a curve that represents the normal range for fetal UPR in the Brazilian population, and is expressed by the equation: Ln (UPR) = -13.7508 + 0.7094 × GA - 0.0092 × GA(2) (R (2) 0.60). A correlation coefficient of 0.9994 (Spearman) was obtained. Bland and Altman's graphic plots confirm the significant agreement between observers. Conclusion: Small differences were observed between the values for UPR observed in our sample and the normal values described in previous studies. Computer vision has been proposed as an alternative to monitor livestock growth, for example using 3D cameras to estimate body weight and condition. However, implementing this technology outdoors and with unrestrained animals poses a great challenge, because of harsh conditions for the equipment, as well as varying lighting and animal movement. Here we propose an automated system to acquire 3D images of individual animals, integrate the animal ID in the image file, and process images. This comprises a fundamental step for implementing a real-time assessment tool of growth of animals grouped in pens, to aid optimal feed management and marketing decision. The study comprised 50 beef cattle of Nellore breed during a finishing phase at DSM Innovation and Applied Center, in Brazil. Animals were tagged with RFID eartags, and 5 Intel RealSense D435 cameras were installed on the top of the water sources in each pen. For each animal approaching the water tank, an RFID antenna read the animal ID and triggered the camera to acquire a top-down view image. Images were then sent to a central computer using Wi-Fi, and later to the cloud. A decision tree algorithm was trained to sort images as usable or unusable, where the retained images had one single animal on the frame, with full body and relatively straight position. Selected frames were then processed using a threshold Otsu's method to segment the animal body and obtain the necessary biological features, including body length, multiple width and height values, body area and volume. A total of 16,000+ images were collected, from which 3,100 were deemed usable. The algorithm successfully extracted the animal body from each image and obtained the biological features (cross-correlation values above 0.90). With the advent of modern non-destructive tomography techniques, there have been many attempts to analyze 3-D pore space features mainly concentrating on soil structure. This analysis opens a challenging opportunity to develop techniques for quantifying and describe pore space properties, one of them being fractal analysis. Undisturbed soil samples were collected from four horizons of Brazilian soil and 3-D images at 45μm resolution. Four different threshold criteria were used to transform computed tomography (CT) grey-scale imagery into binary imagery (pore/solid) to estimate their mass fractal dimension (Dm) and entropy dimension (D1). Each threshold criteria had a direct influence on the porosity obtained, varying from 8 to 24% in one of the samples, and on the fractal dimensions. Linear scaling was observed over all the cube sizes, however depending on the range of cube sizes used in the analysis, Dm could vary from 3.00 to 2.20, realizing that the threshold influenced mainly the scaling in the smallest cubes (length of size from 1 to 16 voxels). Dm and D1 showed a logarithmic relation with the apparent porosity in the image, however, the increase of both values respect to porosity defined a characteristic feature for each horizon that can be related to soil texture and depth. Mammography has a crucial role in breast cancer detection. The National Cancer Institute (INCA) estimates that 29.7% of the cancer cases in Brazil are related specifically to the breast. It is necessary to evaluate the mean glandular dose with a new solid-state detector in a digital radiography system, utilizing PMMA phantoms and spacers for different thicknesses. The Selenia Dimensions (Hologic, Bedford) direct radiography (DR) system can perform full-field digital mammographies through digital detectors. This system uses new technologies, such as the digital breast tomosynthesis system (DBT), and employs a sequence of projections acquired over the breast, resulting in images with low contrast. The estimation of breast dose is an important part of mammographic quality control for x-ray mammography. Nevertheless, there are currently no standard protocols for the dosimetry of breast imaging in 3D. Additionally, a x-ray spectra function is crucial to measure a considerable output in x-ray spectrometry. The purpose of this work was to assess the mean glandular dose (MGD) and the spectra in slabs of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and breast equivalent thickness through digital mammography using four experiments: a Hologic Selenia Dimensions mammograph with a solid-state detector; a spectrometer (only for the spectra, in this case); a clinical COMET x-ray tube with a solid-state detector; and the MCNPX code. References recommend that the real environments that work well with digital mammography are in the following tube voltages: 25 kVp; 26 kVp; 28 kVp; 31 kVp and 33 kVp. Taking into account several thicknesses of PMMA, the results of both the MGD in metrological, clinical and simulated cases were in accordance with the references, from 30 mm of PMMA. Context: The cervical teratomas are rare, benign tumors, they are formed by the three embryonic layers, and they represent only 6% of teratomas. The prognosis depends mainly on the size and location of the lesion, on the tumor growth rate, and on the level of tracheal compression. Prenatal diagnosis is usually reached with the aid of a two-dimensional ultrasonography (2DUS) after the 15th week of gestation, which shows a large heterogeneous mass in the cervical region, plus a polyhydramnios, on the Doppler mode which also shows the vascularization of the tumor. Case Report: We report a case of cervical teratoma diagnosed on the 31st week of gestation with the aid of a 2DUS and color Doppler mode. We focus on the main findings obtained with the three-dimensional ultrasonography in surface mode, and we highlight the importance of this methodology for the indirect evaluation of the neonatal prognosis. Agricultural soils are extremely susceptible to changes due to agricultural practices. Conventional tillage (CT), minimum tillage (MT) and no-tillage (NT) are examples of important management systems largely utilized in Brazil, one of the world's leading producers of coffee, sugar, soybean, corn, and many other agricultural products. Evaluate how these managements disturb the soil structure at the micrometric scale constitutes one of the major challenges for the soil scientists. Due to its potential of producing high-resolution images, X-ray microtomography (μCT) has been increasingly considered as a technique for accurately characterizes three-dimensionally (3D) the soil pore network. In this study, the use of X-ray μCT images associated with a computational algorithm based on the mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) was utilized for quantifying changes in the soil structure, induced by different management systems (CT, MT, NT), as compared to the same soil under forest (F). 3D analyses of the pore system were carried out and complemented with information from the soil water retention curve (SWRC) and its first derivative, the water capacity function (WCF). The obtained results showed that the soil under CT and MT presented significant changes in its pore size distribution as compared to F and NT. Results from both methods showed that CT and NT were the managements that promoted major changes in the soil porosity mainly by increasing the percentage of transmission pores (< 500 μm). The obtained results also suggest that the computational algorithm based on MIP, running on 3D images (30 μm of spatial resolution), was valuable to quantify the pore size distribution and their modifications induced by the different management systems. Micropaleontology is crucial branch of Earth Sciences, with a pivotal role in the success of the oil and gas industry over the decades. This sector of paleontology is based on the taxonomical description of microfossils, which encompass fossils with size variation from 0.001 mm to 1 m. Normally these microorganisms have a high rate on preservation, thus they are widely accepted as reliable evidence to infer about paleodepositional settings and paleoclimate change. Furthermore, microfossils are critical to understanding the evolution through time, being many of them recognized as index fossil and providing useful biozones to correlation. Since 1950, microfossils have been taxonomically described mainly by stereomicroscopes. However, as the technology progress, traditional ways to study these organisms are challenged and improved by nondestructive three-dimensional imaging techniques, as X-ray tomographic microscopy (SRXTM), three-dimensional X-ray microscopy (3D-XRM), the X-ray computed microtomography (microCT) and X-ray computed nanotomography (nanoCT). Recently, one of the most compelling research areas in micropaleontology is the desire to automatize and enhance the details of systematic classification. Thereby, an increasing number of researches have applied the high-resolution X-ray analysis aiming to improve the morphological, taxonomic and taphonomic examination. Most of them have detailed the enhancement provided by the technique when compared with the standard microscopes, and raised questions about the traditional characters used on the microfossil systematic taxonomy. Nevertheless, even with the surpassing detail on microfossil characterization, the application of microCT has been hampered by the costs and sometimes by the needs of specific computer skill. Thus, this research has evaluated the use of microCT as the technique to classify a random bulk of microfossil (comprising foraminifers, ostracods, radiolarians, gastropods and echinoderms) with no further software treatment. No standard microscope analysis was performed. Despite chemical composition of microfossils, most of the specimens morphology, especially internal structures, have been easily acquired and analyzed. 96% of the microfossils of the dataset were identified at least on genus level. Irrespective of the deepness of detail, when considering the overall taxonomic identification, the microCT seems to be effective as the standard microscope. Nonetheless, when problematic specimens are evaluated, the microCT seems to be a more reliable and practical tool than other methods as Scanning Electron Microscopy. Thus, the technique can be used solo or as a complementary method to the stereomicroscope. Additionally, the high-resolution has the potential to lead to the expected automatized micropaleontology, since they can provide numerous images in several planes. Trisomy of chromosome 18 is the second most common autosomal trisomy, occurring in approximately 1:7,000 live births. Its prenatal diagnosis through abnormal findings in ultrasound with later analysis of fetal karyotype is important for a definition of the prognosis and counseling of the patients. We describe a case of trisomy 18 as true mosaicism diagnosed through amniocentesis in the second trimester of pregnancy, associated to the presence of multiple fetal phenotypic alterations. We focus on the importance of fetal morphological study through three-dimensional ultrasonography, which was highly important for clearly showing the fetus' structural alterations, helping parents to understand better the pathology and allowing them to reason about the continuity of the gestation. The resistivity structure beneath the Parecis basin in central Brazil has been studied using broadband (0.001–5000 Hz) magnetotelluric (MT) data for 455 stations recorded along five lines in the Juruena sub-basin and over the Precambrian basement at the northern and southern basin borders. We found that the reconstructed resistivity-versus-depth profiles from our 3D MT inversion models satisfactorily match the average values of the resistivity well logs in the top 2200 m at two exploration well locations chosen for model validation. The low resistivity Parecis Formation at shallow depth can be traced across the region while an areally restricted conductive sequence at about 2000 m depth can be imaged in the central part of Juruena sub-basin and is interpreted as synrift deposits or remnants of a buried Neoproterozoic basin. Sedimentary formations deeper than 2200 m could be sensed but not individually resolved in our resistivity models. The deeper resistivity structure consists of a resistive upper crust, severely thinned over the Neoproterozoic fold belts bounding the basin to the north and south where it is underlain by conductive zones at mid-lower crustal depths. We interpret the deep crustal steep conductors as pre-existing shear-zones possibly associated with the Upper Cretaceous to Tertiary alkaline magmatism in the region. • 3-D resistivity structure of Parecis basin using 455 magnetotelluric soundings was imaged at depths down to 12 km. • Low resistivity shallow Parecis formation was traced across the basin. • Resistive upper crust is thinned over the Neoproterozoic fold belts. • Deep crustal steep conductors possibly associated to alkaline magmatism in the region. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate and summarise features of currently and formerly available cone beam CT (CBCT) devices from 1996 to 2019. Additionally, a recommendation for standardised reporting of CBCT characteristics was provided., Methods and Materials: Information about the features of all available CBCT devices was obtained from the manufacturers' available data. Moreover, site visits to newly developed CBCT machines' manufacturers were performed in order to obtain relevant information., Results: A total of 279 CBCT models from 47 manufacturers located in 12 countries (Brazil, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Slovakia, Thailand, and USA) could be listed. Overall, wide variations in CBCT features and technical specifications were identified., Conclusions: CBCT in dentomaxillofacial radiology is a generic term applicable to a broad range of CBCT machines and features. Experimental outcomes and literature statements regarding radiation doses, imaging performance and diagnostic applicability of dental CBCT cannot be simply transferred from one CBCT model to another considering a wide variation in technical characteristics and clinical diagnostic performance.
