This paper examines the construction of peasant territorial resistance in Brazil, as well as their potential. Peasant territorial resistances are actions based on peasant territories, temporalities and territorialities. These are actions, struggles, agendas, practices, movements, techniques and socio-territorial technologies that aim to guarantee greater autonomy to the peasantry in food production, freeing them partially or totally from the shackles of capital. Understanding the dimensions, scales and characteristics of peasant territorial resistance in Brazil, especially those generated within the scope of socioterritorial movements, in an agrarian context that increasingly expropriates, marginalizes and subordinates the peasantry, is the contribution of this work to geographic agrarian and related areas. The legal protection of areas is the main instrument of environmental and cultural preservation and conservation in Brazil. In this sense, communities with black ancestry linked to the Curiaú River Environmental Protection Area and, consequently, to the Curiaú River hydrographic basin in the municipality of Macapá, state of Amapá, seek legal norms to protect their environment and culture, that is, its territory. These communities have as their main purpose the ratification of their territories. However, the process is slow and with a high degree of difficulty, causing despair to the community. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the titling processes of the remaining quilombo communities that are linked to the Curiaú River Environmental Protection Area and how the communities have been resisting the pressure promoted by urban expansion and the development of soy farming. Methodology: It consisted of documentary, theoretical, legislative and field research, with on-site observation. Results: The results show that the main instruments used by the remaining quilombo communities to protect their territories are the legal norms with which they try to legalize their territories through titling. The forms and processes immanent to the Compound territories in the contemporary world bring countless social issues to the geographic debate, and this effort requires an expanded interpretation of the relationships that involve both urban and rural spaces. In view of this, the present study is based on some theoretical analyzes of the "territory" to seek to contribute to highlight the social constructions of the peasant movement. This is an effort that gains validity due to the growing supremacy of current agribusiness, which "in theory" configures a re-territorialization of peasant places in favor of monocultures. However, using bibliographic clippings that support peasant struggle and resistance, here is a reflection that deconstructs this "maxim" of the disappearance of peasant territoriality, an understanding that remains prominent in the analyzes of agrarian geography. Far from introducing a dichotomized approach (agribusiness / campenisate), here is the permanence of peasant territory concomitantly with the great agrarian-capitalist property, an interpretation that is perfectly feasible as a public policy in Brazil and in the world. This work presents a reflection on the history of cheese production (butter and cream) in Marajó, PA, Brazil. The qualitative research used the following tools and methodologies: semi-structured interview and themed oral history. We sought to perform a historical rescue of cheese production; to analyze the forms of knowledge transmission and production mode; and to start a debate on the challenges faced in order to preserve those practices given the requirements of sanitary regularization required by the inspection agencies. As a result, we observed the socioeconomic, historical, social and cultural importance of local cheese production for the families involved; the adaptation of production as a form of resistance and maintenance of the artisanal production; the aging of marajoara cheese production professionals and the decrease in the number of people interested in developing the activity. This research points to the degree of fragility of this mode of production and the need to create public policies that encourage, preserve and foster traditional knowledge and local artisanal production of Marajó cheeses. This article is a reflection on the processes of land regularization enacted by the section 68 of the Temporary Constitutional Provisions Act of 1988 in Brazil and its deployment in the State administrative routines.We believe that new elements have been imposed and we should consider them when thinking about reparation policies and recognition of the recipients of these constitutional provisions. We use the expression "the battle of papers" to refer to the negotiations obstructed by the State notarial procedures. Efforts will be made to show the situations in which the struggle for social recognition challenges the idea in which it is conceived that the runaway slaves demand is merely territorial. Observed in their various confrontations, these processes conceal a moral vocation, led by the runaway slaves, that overflows the logical demand for the "World of papers" and allows us to visualize the tensions on the ways of materializing, moved from orality to writing, conducted by notions of science and permeated by notary logic. The study presents the territoriality of the Catholic Church in Sergipe, Brazil, by explaining the expansion of sacred territory and its network system. The methods employed in this study were theoretical research, consultation of documents and other bibliographic sources guiding the research work, and the collection of data from the parishes and cities of Sergipe. Results showed that the construction of sacred territory in Sergipe dates back to the sixteenth century, when land was allotted to religious orders. The population increase over time led to the creation of a network of parishes, which later broke up and expanded, thus creating a wide religious territoriality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The black rural community of the Engenho Siqueira sugar mill practices agricultural and fishing forms of production inherited from their ancestors. The article attempts to explain the cultural and technical compatibilities between current developed forms of production and agroecology. Traditional agriculture, the main activity of this community, is one of the referents for the sustainable management of ecosystems in this coastal region. Fourteen semi-structured interviews were carried out with farmers as well as with the oldest inhabitants of the sugar mill. According to results, this population doesn't evidence to keep a subaltern link with the sugar cane monoculture systems recently. This is observed in the wages paid for the factories and so in the local cane crops. Finally, the study revealed that the agricultural and fishing practices developed in the Quilombo community have a significant agroecological potential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Brazil builds the bases of its development under the aegis of the slavery, what have left indelible marks on its history and today. After 124 years of abolition of slavery, a review of its consequences and determinations is required. The problems faced by black people in Brazil emerges daily, either in the discussion of affirmative action policies for Afro-descendants in public higher education, is in discussions about prejudices or recognition of quilombola's communities rights to their ancestral territories. Males of the damselfly Hetaerina rosea may defend mating Sites along river margins (resident males) or, altematively, wander among different areas presumably searching for mates (nonterritorial males). Although the occurrence of territorial and nonterritorial males of H. rosea is very common in Brazil, studies examining which factors may be responsible for the adoption of alternative mate-locating tactics in this species are inexistent. We investigated the relationship between the adoption of these altemative mate-locating tactics by males of H. rosea and two possible causes: body weight and male abundance. We carried the study in three areas: sites 1, 2 and 3. Samples were monthly undertaken in sites 1 and 2 between September/2001 and August/2002 and in site 3 between May/1999 and January/2001. Using the scan method with fixed areas and mark-resighting techniques, we did not find any relationship between the proportion of nonterritorial males and male abundance per month on Sites 2 (n=6) and 3 (n=7), indicating that the adoption of alternative mate-locating tactics is not affected by competition for territories. In the same way, nonterritorial and resident males showed similar body and thoracic weight measures (n=30 and n=27 for sites 2 and 3 respectively). Maybe the nonterritorial tactic is adopted by individuals searching for better territories or males that were evicted from their defended sites. The absence of relationship between weight and male territorial status is in accordance with other Hetaerina species. However, other traits not investigated here such as parasitic load, fat content and age may influence the adoption of different mate-acquisition tactics in H. rosea males. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
