The aim of this paper was assessing tobacco use in adolescents of Buenos Aires City and its relation to socio demographic characteristics and social desirability (SD). Participants were 302 schooled adolescents of ages between 13 and 18 years (M = 15.57, SD = 1.75; 45.4% female). Results showed that nearly half of them (41.7%) had try a cigarette once. Of them, 27.2% currently used tobacco, 62% were light users and 3% were severe users. Age of onset was 10 years old or less for 34.9% and between 11 and 15 years old for 51.6%. Most of the adolescents used tobacco for recreational purposes. Also, those who stated to had tried tobacco, those who had used less tan 100 cigarettes in their life and those who said to not be bothered by tobacco smoke showed higher valued of SD in contrast to the rest. The number of cigarettes used was positively related to SD. Those adolescents which the majority of their friends smoke had higher SD. No associations were found between SD age of onset, motive for starting smoking, opinion of what smoking tobacco is, nor information received regarding tobacco.
