The article deals with the remodeling of the claustrophobic kitchen of David Cargill, a documentary filmmaker who lives in a condominium in Marina del Ray, California. His solution is faking an open plan by knocking down the wall between the kitchen and the living room, and installing a generously sized curved-counter breakfast bar instead. The eating area, topped with a half circle of black granite, helps visually expand the space. Cargill chose a pair of stainless steel undercounter units that each combine a fridge and freezer.
