The article reflects on the proposal for the licensure expansion for registered veterinary technicians (RVTs) in California, which was opposed by California Veterinary Medical Association. It highlights that California would rank as the first state to grant RVT's authorization to incise the skin for placement of intravascular catheters, among other procedures, if the board could approve the proposal at the January 25, 2006 licensing board hearing. The expansion measures indicates the new job tasks of RVTs as a means for increasing earning potential, which could translate to higher retention, recruitment and career satisfaction rates.
