Objectives: The purpose of this study is to describe Mexican‐American parents' experiences navigating the dental care system for their children. Methods: Thirty in‐depth qualitative interviews were conducted with Spanish‐speaking caregivers of young children in an urban county of Northern California, asking about their experiences navigating dental care for their children. Interviews were digitally recorded, translated, transcribed, coded, and analyzed using standard qualitative procedures. Results: Caregivers reported challenges that highlight how various aspects of navigating the health care system are elemental to oral health literacy. These included making appointments, finding a provider they trust, using their dental insurance, and communicating with the dental care provider. Conclusions: When addressing oral health literacy, it is important to consider the navigational components to improve children's oral health literacy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As compared to load demand, frequent wind energy intermittencies produce large short-term (sub 1-h to 3-h) deficits (and surpluses) in the energy supply. These intermittent deficits pose systemic and structural risks that will likely lead to energy deficits that have significant reliability implications for energy system operators and consumers. This work provides a toolset to help policy makers quantify these first-order risks. The thinking methodology/framework shows that increasing wind energy penetration significantly increases the risk of loss in California. A pseudo-tie resource model is a means by which a resource (i.e., generation unit or load) is operationally transferred from one balancing authority (BA) area in which the resource is physically located (i.e., native BA) to another (i.e., attaining BA area). The attaining BA has responsibility for operational control of the pseudo-tie resource for both system reliability and electricity market purposes. By implementing a pseudo-tie, the California Independent System Operator Corporation (ISO) BA is able to attain control of resources physically located external to its jurisdiction for its BA area services. Recent work suggests that further integration of wind and solar resources into the power grid will increase the demand for regulation and load following. The purpose of this letter is to investigate an important aspect of using energy storages for providing regulation: The short-term energy restoration of such limited energy resources (LERs) coincides with load following operations and could therefore lead to higher load following requirements. We therefore analyze the impact of corresponding scheduling approaches on load following energy and capacity using stochastic simulations. In particular, we compare the load following impact of a basic control strategy proposed by the stakeholders of the Independent System Operator in California (CAISO) to a strategy that attempts to manage the energy level of LERs such that their impact on load following requirements is optimal. Our results show that such smart state of charge management could even reduce the demand for load following while satisfying the full regulation demand in the CAISO control region.
