The article focuses on the author's experience as he explored on the works and techniques of potters of North Cameroon and Northeastern Nigeria. The author discovered a technique which is called the Hausa method of fashioning pots which seems to have affinities with the methods of the metal workers of beating brass and copper. The technique is restricted to men, the Hausa people or to Nigeria with variations from Mali to Sudan. The Sirak potters have a specialized toolkit which is called the anvil mould, where the potters build the spot. On the other hand, the potter in the Mandara Mountains employ medicines to protect their work.
