This review is designed to highlight several key challenges in the diagnosis of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer currently faced by pathologists in Canada: ·Pre-analysis issues affecting the accuracy of HER2 testing in non-excision sample types: core-needle biopsies, effusion samples, fine-needle aspirates, and bone metastases ·HER2 testing of core-needle biopsies compared with surgical specimens ·Criteria for retesting HER2 status upon disease recurrence Literature searches for each topic were carried out using the MEDLINE, Embase, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, and biosis databases. In addition, the congress databases of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (2005-2011) and the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (2007-2011) were searched for relevant abstracts. All authors are expert breast pathologists with extensive experience of HER2 testing, and several participated in the development of Canadian HER2 testing guidelines. For each topic, the authors present an evaluation of the current data available for the guidance of pathology practice, with recommendations for the optimization or improvement of HER2 testing practice. The western bean cutworm, Striacosta albicosta (Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is historically a pest of both corn (Zea mays L. (Poales: Poaceae)) and dry beans (Phaseolus sp. L. (Fabales: Fabaceae)) in the western Great Plains. However, it has recently undergone an eastward range expansion establishing itself across the Corn Belt in 25 states and 4 Canadian provinces. To mitigate the effects of infestation in Michigan, foliar insecticides are used in dry beans, whereas management of the pest in corn relies more heavily on the use of Bt-expressing hybrids. In this study stable carbon isotope analysis was used to determine what crop adult moths developed on as larvae with analysis showing that very few of the adult moths developed on dry beans. These results suggest that beans and corn are not suitable as co-refuges and that mainly adults which developed on corn are contributing to the next generation of western bean cutworm in Michigan., (© The Author(s) 2020. Participants in the current study were 75 males, including 25 Canadian soldiers, 25 heavy gamers who play military based video games such as "Call of Duty," and a control group comprised of 25 males. One dream per participant was analyzed using Hall and Van de Castle content analysis guidelines, including aggression, threat, and previously established scales for intensity of aggression and emotion. The dreams of soldiers had a higher frequency of both aggression and threat, and were also more intense in aggression and emotion than both the heavy gamers and the controls. These findings suggest that exposure to real life violence and threat (as well as the emotional significance of the experience) is more frequently incorporated into dream imagery than simulated or virtual threat. Limitations and directions for future studies are discussed.

Purpose: In health-related quality of life (HRQOL) studies, data are often collected on multiple domains for two or more groups of study participants. Quantitative measures of relative importance, which are used to rank order the domains based on their ability to discriminate between groups, are an alternative to multiple tests of significance on the group differences. This study describes relative importance measures based on logistic regression (LR) and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) models., Methods: Relative importance measures are illustrated using data from the Manitoba Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Cohort Study. Study participants with self-reported active (n = 244) and inactive (n = 105) disease were compared on 12 HRQOL domains from the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (IBDQ) and Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form (SF-36) Questionnaire., Results: All but two relative importance measures ranked the IBDQ bowel symptoms and emotional health domains as most important., Conclusions: MANOVA-based importance measures are recommended for multivariate normal data and when group covariances are equal, while LR measures are recommended for non-normal data and when the correlations among the domains are small. Relative importance measures can be used in exploratory studies to identify a small set of domains for further research.
