This article describes the travels of the 2005 fellows of the North American Traveling Fellowship established by the American Orthopaedic Association in 1960. The fellowship, inspired by John Fahey, MD, attempts to stimulate an intellectual exchange of ideas and leadership in the field of orthopaedics. Every other year 4 American orthopaedic surgeons and one Canadian orthopaedic surgeon are selected to travel around the U.S. and Canada. The five fellows selected in 2005 include Kevin J. Bozic, a joint replacement surgeon from the University of California, Johnny Lau, a foot and ankle surgeon from Toronto, Canada, Rex Haydon, an orthopaedic oncology surgeon from the University of Chicago, Matthew T. Provencher, a shoulder and sports medicine surgeon from the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, and Heather Vallier, an orthopaedic trauma surgeon from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
