Abstract

The article presents a look at the closest known brown dwarf star, which was discovered by Edgardo Costa and Rene Mendez of the University of Chile in Santiago, Chile. The brown dwarf, which was cataloged as DEN 0255-4700, is an L-type dwarf that is 16.2 light-years away. Costa and his colleagues measured the dwarf's distance by trigonometric parallax.
