During the second half of the nineteenth century, the State of Chile began to settle the various Mapuche groups that remained in what would become Araucanía. Years later, in 1916 and 1917, the State began to draw up colonisation maps of the provinces of Malleco and Cautín in order to gain a comprehensive overview of the territory. These maps include a register of designated Mapuche lands, many of which have endured to the present day. By means of a morphological study of the maps we propose that certain logics of form can be identified in the division of land. Some of these are explicit, in that certain clear morphological interpretations are possible despite the heterogeneity of the lands in question. Others are implicit, influenced by Mapuche logics that pre-date the modern State and have endured in the background. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The horror of the military coup in Chile motivated a massive international solidarity network. One of them was composed of self-organized citizens, NGOs, and Chilean exiles in the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). This movement was a response to affected individuals facing the lack of immediate measures and policies of the FRG's government towards exile and human rights violation victims in Chile. This article offers a cartography that traces key locations of such solidarity network: places where solidarity events took place, where the subjects involved reside, and their transits; with a special but not exclusive focus on the state of Baden-Württemberg, in the federal south. Considering the historical moment when this took place – Cold War scenario: Germany divided between the two ruling blocks – the cartography shows how this movement was a way of subverting that geopolitical order. This work, therefore, is a new contribution to the studies of solidarity and, at the same time, it links those studies with the field of STS, by presenting a cartography as a visual dispositif that documents the imbrications of solidarity, affections, politics, culture, Germans, and Chileans on a given territory. The present article discusses the potential and limitations of participative social cartography. This evaluation is derived from insights gathered from the use of this method in research done with two cooperatives in the Valparaiso region in Chile. The first of them is involved in the production of natural wine, and the second in the commercialization of foodstuffs and other non-food products. In these methodological exercises, mapping played a crucial role and during them both researchers and subjects went through four crucial stages: design, goal-setting, implementation and analysis. In order to achieve results, it was necessary to employ a mix of virtual and face-to face encounters, adapting the methodology not only to the needs and internal dynamics of the cooperatives, but also to the conditions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemics. When comparing the different findings it becomes evident that cartographic techniques need to be adapted to the rhythms and peculiarities of each organization. The text arrives at the conclusion that the co-building of knowledge must be grounded on horizontal participation, in dialogue and in the use of interdisciplinary resources. These are key features in collaborative research methodology. The article questions the relationships which are established between researchers and social organizations. At the same time, thanks to its collective, situated, dynamic and creative condition, it enables a fruitful discussion about the ways in which participative social cartography can contribute to the debate about the linkages between research and territory. This article presents the modeling of a power distribution system using geographic information system (GIS) technology. It shows how to create the required database to associate the geographic information with graphic objects in a digital map, through a common indicator. As an application, the document presents the behavior of the network faced with a projected demand growth. The feeder is real and the cartography corresponds to the city of Arica, Chile.
