This article deals with the ways in which populations in prison-neighbourhood circuits are policed, managed, and contained in Santiago, Chile. It draws attention to how the safeguarding of social order and security policy is intertwined with the reproduction of carceral domesticities among low-income households. Building on ethnographic research conducted in two stages between 2017 and 2022 with practitioners of crime prevention programmes and the 'problem' families targeted by such initiatives, the article addresses carceral domesticity as containment of troubled families. It shows how such containment involves a project of subjectivation centred on women to enforce a gendered family model by engaging state programmes, psychosocial manuals, and prevention practitioners. It focuses on security and enclosure mechanisms in domestic spaces at work through a grammar of care and prevention. By examining the pitfalls that carceral domesticity encounters in everyday domestic life, the article sheds light on the productivity of resistances to enable spaces of autonomy in times of economic crisis and social uprising in Chile. This article examines intercultural discourses in the Mapuche context of the Araucanía region of Chile, based on the material and enunciative conditions which sustain their circulation. These conditions shape an environment where, over the last 30 years, developmentalist rhetoric has defined the State's intercultural project. This has criminalized ways of life that oppose extractivism as a model of development. The systematicity of violence continues to reproduce other types of systematicities, such as practices of resistance which adopt the specific form of 'territorial control'. This article proposes that such practices, or counter-conducts to ethnodevelopment, are political technologies that produce new subjectivities and ways of life. They involve a strong commitment to the 'truth' of collective memory for individuals who are exposed to life-threatening or 'borderline' experiences caused by a militarized neoliberal rationale. Conflicts over tree plantations in the global South challenge the image of sustainability and efficiency that some states and forestry companies construct for themselves and forestry extractivism. Research on the power dynamics of tree plantations has up to now focused on conflictive interactions between states, private capital and local populations, overlooking the role of more subtle power dynamics. To expand those analyses, we focus on the role of subjectivities in conflicts, and examine how state, capital and local populations interact in the process of subject formation. We analyse the historical and contemporary development of forestry extractivism in Southern Chile, specifically in and around indigenous Mapuche territories. Our analysis shows that commercial forestry advances via securing land control through disciplinary interventions whose aim is to create subjects that can help secure capital accumulation and extractivism. Nevertheless, individuals and communities get in the way of this project as they mobilise sovereignty claims that permit them to exercise control over the process of their own subjectformation. Importantly, our analysis highlights the emotional dimension of the process of formation of political subjects, especially via the expression of "negative" emotions such as anger and sorrow, which we find to be crucial resources that help indigenous Mapuche communities to maintain resistance. We conclude that side by side with capital accumulation and subjectivity-formation processes, political ecologists should consider more the emotional experiences that facilitate or hinder everyday environmental struggles.
