The historical topographic map preserves rich geographic information and can provide direct assistance for the reconstruction of various geographic elements. Based on the historical data of cities throughout the Qing Dynasty, the land use scale data of cities across the country was obtained using GIS and urban perimeter conversion models. This study combines city information and city circumference records from the historical maps and archives of the late Qing Dynasty to quantitatively reconstruct the use patterns of ancient China's urban land at a spatial resolution of 1° × 1°. Uncertainty analysis of the reconstruction results was conducted using modern remote sensing image data as the validation data set. The results showed the following. (1) During the late Qing Dynasty, the total area of urban land in the various provinces and regions was 1456.015 km2. The maximum value was 208.691 km2 in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, the minimum value was 1.713 km2 in Qinghai, and the average value was 56.001 km2. (2) The results of grid reconstruction show that among the 398 grids with urban land distribution, the maximum value is 64.099 km2/grid, the minimum value is 0.013 km2/grid, and the average value is 3.658 km2/grid. (3) Of all the grids with urban land, the urban land grid to the west of the Hu Line accounts for 12.5% and the east to 87.5%. (4) During the late Qing Dynasty, urban land use in China was primarily concentrated in agriculturally developed areas such as the North China Plain, the Central Plains, Jiangnan, and the Sichuan-Chongqing region. (6) The results of a kernel density estimation showed that there were obviously three core areas of urban land agglomeration in China during the late Qing Dynasty: the North China Plain-Central Plains, the Jiangsu-Shanghai-Zhejiang-Anhui area, and the Sichuan-Chongqing urban core area. This study provides basic data for urban land use during historical periods and provides a basis for the quantitative reconstruction of relevant urban land data for historical archives. The rapid modernization in China has aggravated the reduction of the traditional settlements and aroused concern about the protection and research. This study aims to examine the spatial-temporal variations Tujia traditional settlements in China and to delineate the driving mechanism of the settlement distribution. Previous studies have focused on the characteristics of settlements in provincial or smaller areas, providing lacked information regarding spatial distribution heterogeneity of Tujia traditional settlements in China. In this study, the spatial heterogeneity and influence factors of the distribution of traditional Tujia settlements were examined using the GIS platform and statistical methods. The results reveal that the spatial distribution of settlements exhibits clustering with the pattern of "scattered distribution in a large region, while concentrated in small areas". The settlements were generally built in low hills, gentle slopes, sunny slopes and low-relief terrain areas, with elevation, relief degree of land surface (RDLS), slope and aspect were the key factors affecting the distribution. In Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, settlements showed significant clustering all through, though the location and number of clustering center kept changing. In this process, the history of the Tujia chieftain and the transportation and marketing lines of Sichuan salt had a profound influence on the historical evolution of the settlement. This study is “Sichuan Qingyin Performance in China; The Transmission Process, Obstruction and Way to Resolve”. The study employed the qualitative research methodology of ethnomusicology. The objectives were to 1) Investigate the development of Sichuan Qingyin performance in China. 2) Examine the transmission process of Sichuan Qingyin performance in Sichuan and Chongqing, China. Based on the study findings, 1) Sichuan Qingyin is closely related to ancient Chinese Quyi art. The sources of Sichuan Qingyin are complex. Sichuan Qingyin was formed roughly during the early Qing Dynasty. From the late Qing Dynasty to the early years of the Republic of China, Sichuan Qingyin flourished. During this period, the performances of Sichuan Qingyin were very popular in the streets of Sichuan and Chongqing. Sichuan Qingyin has developed significantly since the People's Republic of China was founded. Due to changes in the times, Sichuan Qingyin is being squeezed by other art forms, so the present state of affairs is not optimistic. 2) Today, the transmission process consists mainly of school education and professional performance groups. There are many obstacles to contemporary Sichuan Qingyin, such as a lack of performance venues, a loss of audiences, and an absence of newly composed works; this study outlines corresponding measures and recommendations. The Internet of Things is a huge system that collects and transmits real-time information. The smart space location is a part of IOT that collects location information, and on the other hand, it is an important tool to analyze the internal relationship of information and help users better understand its laws. As an integral part of the geographical landscape, human settlement environments have the main characteristics of both physical and cultural geography. The human settlement environments in the area along the Shu Road in the late Qing Dynasty (1840–1912) have important historical and geographical features. The main route of the Road to Sichuan takes the basic pattern of "Four in the north and three in the south," with extensive coverage and overflow range; its complex landform brings diverse climate types and vastly different scenery as there are many factors related to the three cultural regions of Guanzhong, Qinba, and Shudi involved. In the application of the Internet of Things in geography, through high-frequency active monitoring, the situation changes can be grasped in a timely manner, the law of changes and trends can be discovered, and the geographic information of mountain village landforms can be provided to the public in a timely manner. Based on Ferdinand von Richthofen: Tagebücher aus China and Hand Drawing of China: Record of the History of Chinese Architecture in Japan, by retrospective restoration, on-site investigation, comprehensive application of relevant theories, and methods in historical geography, architectural typology, art phenomenology, and aesthetics, this study attempted to reasonably divide, scientifically classify, thoroughly analyze, extract the characteristics from, and improve the culture of the village landscapes in the Qinba Mountains along the Shu Road in the late Qing Dynasty from the perspectives including the size types and site relationship, building types and form structures, construction materials and decorative arts, general style, and aesthetic characteristics. This article tells the intertwined tales of two historical routes that testify to the extensive geographical distance and profound political connections between Tibet and China throughout the modern era. In much of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the Sichuan Route operated as the transportation artery upon which the Qing empire depended to maintain authority in Kham and Tibet. It was also the site of a rite of passage for frontier functionaries and a meeting ground between imperial agents and the indigenous population. Despite its destruction after the implosion of the Qing in 1911, the histories and memories of the Sichuan Route continued to influence decision-makers in both China and Tibet in the following decades. The Maritime Route, which emerged in the late nineteenth century with the proliferation of steam transportation in Asia, revolutionized the way in which Tibet connected to China and the rest of the world. It also competed with the Sichuan Route and encouraged the Qing to reconfigure its presence in its non-Chinese territories in the southwest. After the empire fell, political tensions continued to evolve around the Maritime Route, which functioned simultaneously as the reluctant choice of Chinese emissaries and a strategic tool that the Lhasa government wielded to curtail China's influence. Through an exploration of the Sichuan Route and the Maritime Route on the levels of experience and representation, this article sketches the two routes' troubled interconnections with each other and with every twist and turn in Sino-Tibetan relations from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries. Binding material is a key component of painted cultural relics, and research on binding agents ("binders") is of great significance for the study of the history and preservation of cultural artefacts. In this work, our team collected 129 painted samples from 28 ancient cultural relics located in 9 provinces of China. We used an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) as well as immunofluorescence microscopy (IFM) to identify proteinous binders in these samples. Our results show that 51 painted samples were found to contain animal glue, 13 samples were found to contain egg ovalbumin, and 2 samples were found to contain casein. Two mural painting samples prepared in the Ming and Qing Dynasties (14–20 century AD) from the Jiazaerjia Mountain Grottoes in Sichuan province were found to contain casein, and this is the first time that casein binders were found in Chinese painted cultural relics. On top of our detection results, this paper also reports statistics on the chronology, geographical distribution, and artwork types in which organic binders are found, and provides evidence of the use of proteinous binders in Chinese painted cultural relics. The article discusses the use of false accusation (wugao) in Sichuan Province, China during the late Qing Dynasty, including its relationship with the legal culture at the time and magistrates' willingness to hear legal cases of malicious accusation. An overview of the Chinese tenant farmer Chen Bingtang's malicious accusation lawsuit case in court regarding the death of his son is provided.

The article discusses the Chinese Qing government's relations with the Kham region of eastern Tibet, China, Yunnan Province and Sichuan Province. An overview of China's copper industry, including Japan's decision to limit copper exports to China, is provided. The role that China's hereditary tusi (native official) played in establishing Chinese rule in eastern Tibet, including in Lhasa, China, is discussed.

The early Qing dynasty, the government encouraged people to open up wasteland in Sichuan and made people migrate there on a large scale. However, in the new migrating area, social integration did not keep abreast with the increasing speed of population. The social and governmental control was not built up in time and the "hoodlums" and "rascals" among the immigrants ganged up with local "ruffians" to create a loosely organized society named Guolu, in which people with different family names became sworn brothers. Guolu was originally a word used by the Sichuan local inhabitants to name the cunning and fierce people, gamblers, thieves and bandits among the immigrants. The emerging and spreading of Guolu is related to the geographical and social conditions under which the Qing government encouraged people to migrate to Sichuan without proper limits. Although traditional mainstream society had abandoned the practices of remarriage or wife-selling, due to the widespread poverty it remained a common folk custom and for those a means to perpetuate the generations and carry on the family name. In Nanbu county, Sichuan, remarriage or wife-selling was not officially regarded as an "evil custom" because it did not involve a son-in-law moving into the wife's home, or a "household transfer" marriage, customs and thus could not undermine the existing inheritance and settlement practices. As for cases of remarriage and wife-selling that reached the yamen, there were numerous reasons for settling disputes. Interestingly, magistrates' decisions were based on the different motivations of the villagers in litigation, not strictly in accordance with the statutes, and magistrates made flexible judgments for both sides.
