The "Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard" was implemented for water pollutant discharge in China's pesticide industry, which has no control requirements for particular wastewater pollutants in the industry. In the standard, certain pollutants discharge limits are limited strictly or loosely, resulting in practical management implementation difficulties. In view of the highly selective targeting characteristics of organic pesticide active ingredients in fungicides, insecticides, and herbicides, a method for deriving discharge limits based on the water quality criteria for pesticides for the protection of nonsensitive species is established based on the idea of fully protecting aquatic organisms beyond sensitive objects. Through the use of malathion as an example, by screening its toxicity data in different species of aquatic organisms, the sequence point with the most significant change in the acute toxicity sensitivity of the species is taken as the variation point in the cumulative frequency of the sensitive and nonsensitive species to derive the water quality criteria, using the species sensitivity distribution method as the scientific basis for determining the discharge limits. After a comparative analysis of different simulation models, the sigmoid model, with the best fit, is selected to determine that the sensitive species hazard concentration (HCs) of malathion to aquatic organisms in China is 46.4 µg/L, and the discharge limit derived from the HCs based on the relationship between the environmental capacity and emissions is rounded to 250 µg/L. Studies showed that the relationship between the emissions limit derived from the water quality criteria for protecting nonsensitive species and malathion limit stipulated in the "Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water" conforms to the corresponding relationship of the quality standard and discharge standard, which can be achieved by current pollution control technology, combined with water quality improvement. Black-grass (Alopecurus myosuroides Huds.) is a common weed in Chinese wheat fields, and has become troublesome due to its evolution of herbicide resistance. One black-grass population (HN-14) collected from a wheat field where herbicides were applied was suspected to be resistant (R) to mesosulfuron-methyl. This study aims to establish a cross-resistance pattern and explore potential resistance mechanisms. The results of a whole-plant dose response assay showed that the resistant (R) population had a high of resistance to mesosulfuron-methyl (33-fold); meanwhile, no synergism of P450s activity inhibitor malathion was observed. The sequencing results revealed that ALS resistance mutation Trp-574-Leu occurred in R plants. The results of in vitro ALS enzyme activity assays also supported that the extractable ALS from R plants were 23.22-fold resistant to mesosulfuron-methyl. In the light of the "R" resistance rating system, HN-14 has evolved RRR and RR resistance to fenoxaprop-P-ethyl, clodinafop-propargyl, haloxyfop-methyl, and fluazifop-P-butyl and R? (resistance may be developing) to pinoxaden, however remains sensitive to imazethapyr, quizalofop-P-ethyl, tralkoxydim, and isoproturon. These results indicated that the mesosulfuron-methyl resistance in the black-grass population HN-14 was driven by a target-site mechanism rather than a nontarget (at least P450s-mediated) mechanism. Ammannia auriculata Willd. is a noxious broadleaf weed, commonly infesting rice ecosystems across southern China. A putative resistant A. auriculata population (AHSC-5) was sampled from a rice field of Anhui Province, where bensulfuron-methyl (BM) was unable to control its occurrence. This study aimed to determine the sensitivities of the AHSC-5 population to common-use herbicides, and to investigate the underlying resistance mechanisms. The bioassays showed that the AHSC-5 population was 138.1-fold resistant to BM, compared with the susceptible population (JSGL-1). Pretreatment of malathion reduced the resistance index to 19.5. ALS sequencing revealed an Asp376Glu substitution in the AHSC-5 population, and in vitro ALS activity assays found that 50% activity inhibition (I 50) of BM in AHSC-5 was 75.4 times higher than that of JSGL-1. Moreover, the AHSC-5 population displayed cross-resistance to pyrazosulfuron-ethyl (10.6-fold), bispyribac‑sodium (3.6-fold), and imazethapyr (2.2-fold), and was in the process of evolving multiple resistance to synthetic auxin herbicides fluroxypyr (2.3-fold) and florpyrauxifen-benzyl (3.1-fold). This study proved the BM resistance in A. auriculata caused by the Asp376Glu mutation and P450-regulated metabolism. This multi-resistant population can still be controlled by penoxsulam, MCPA, bentazone, and carfentrazone-ethyl, which aids in developing targeted and effective weed management strategies. Japanese brome (Bromus japonicus) has become one of the main weeds in wheat fields in Hebei province of China and causes a large decrease of wheat production. A total of 44 putative resistant and 2 susceptible Japanese brome populations were collected in the 2021/2022 crop season from Hebei province of China to determine resistance levels to flucarbazone‑sodium and to investigate the diversity of acetolactate synthase (ALS) mutations, as well as to confirm the cross-and multiple-resistance levels to ALS and EPSPS (5-enolpyruvate shikimate-3-phosphate synthetase) inhibitors. Whole plant bioassay results showed that 15 out of 44 populations tested or 34% were resistant to flucarbazone‑sodium. The resistance indices of Japanese brome to flucarbazone‑sodium ranged from 43 to 1977. The resistant populations were mainly distributed in Baoding and Shijiazhuang districts, and there was only one resistant population in Langfang district. Resistant Japanese brome had diverse ALS mutations, including Pro-197-Ser, -Thr, -Arg and Asp-376-Glu. The incidence of Pro-197-Ser mutation was the highest at 68%. Application of the CYP450 inhibitor malathion suggested that CYP450 was involved in metabolic resistance in a population without an ALS mutation. The population with Pro-197-Thr mutation evolved weak cross-resistance to mesosulfuron-methyl and pyroxsulam, and it is in the process of evolving multiple-resistance to glyphosate. Wild oat (Avena fatua L.) is a common and problematic weed in wheat fields in China. In recent years, farmers found it increasingly difficult to control A. fatua using acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase)-inhibiting herbicides. The purpose of this study was to identify the molecular basis of clodinafop-propargyl resistance in A. fatua. In comparison to the S1496 population, whole dose response studies revealed that the R1623 and R1625 populations were 71.71- and 67.76-fold resistant to clodinafop-propargyl, respectively. The two resistant A. fatua populations displayed high resistance to fenoxaprop-p-ethyl (APP) and low resistance to clethodim (CHD) and pinoxaden (PPZ), but they were still sensitive to the ALS inhibitors mesosulfuron-methyl and pyroxsulam. An Ile-2041-Asn mutation was identified in both resistant individual plants. The copy number and relative expression of the ACCase gene in the resistant population were not significantly different from those in the S1496 population. Under the application of 2160 g ai ha −1 of clodinafop-propargyl, the fresh weight of the R1623 population was reduced to 74.9%; however, pretreatment with the application of the cytochrome P450 inhibitor malathion and the GST inhibitor NBD-Cl reduced the fresh weight to 50.91% and 47.16%, respectively, which proved the presence of metabolic resistance. This is the first report of an Ile-2041-Asn mutation and probable metabolic resistance in A. fatua , resulting in resistance to clodinafop-propargyl. BACKGROUND: Pesticides have been widely used to control pests on agricultural products in China, and large amounts of pesticide residues have caused a serious threat to human health. Thus, developing a high‐efficiency pesticide degradation method for fresh vegetables represents a great challenge. The present study investigated the effects of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma on the degradation of malathion and chlorpyrifos in aqueous solutions and on lettuces. RESULTS: DBD treatment significantly degraded malathion and chlorpyrifos in water and on lettuce. After cold plasma treatment at 80 kV for 180 s, the degradation efficiency of malathion (0.5 μg mL−1) and chlorpyrifos (1.0 μg mL−1) in aqueous solutions reached 64.6% and 62.7%, respectively. The degradation intermediates were explored by HPLC‐mass spectrometry and the DBD plasma degradation pathways of malathion and chlorpyrifos were proposed. There was no significant damage to the quality of lettuces, including color and chlorophyll content, after plasma treatment. Ascorbic acid decreased significantly during long‐term treatment with DBD plasma. To ensure the quality of lettuces during processing, the treatment time was shortened to 120 s. Under this condition, the degradation efficiency of malathion (0.5 mg kg−1) and chlorpyrifos (1.0 mg kg−1) on lettuces was found to be 53.1% and 51.4%. More importantly, we noted that cold plasma treatment significantly inactivated the microorganisms on lettuces. Background: A wide range of pesticides is applied for crop protection in vegetable cultivation in China. Regulation of pesticide maximum residue limits (MRLs) in vegetables is established but not fully enforced. And pesticide residues in vegetables were not well monitored. This study conducted the monitoring surveys from 2011 to 2013 to investigate the pesticides in vegetables in the northwest region of China.Methods: A multi-residue gas chromatography/mass spectrometry method (GC/MS) was used in determination of pesticides in vegetable samples. The χ2 test was used to compare the concentration of pesticide residues.Results: A total of 32 pesticide residues were detected in 518 samples from 20 types of vegetables in this study. 7.7% of the detected pesticide residues exceeded the MRLs. The percentages of residues that exceeded the MRLs for leafy, melon and fruit, and root vegetables were 11.2%, 5.1%, and 1.6%, respectively. There was no seasonal difference in the proportion of samples that exceeded the MRLs in different vegetables. A total of 84.3% (27/32) pesticides were detected at concentrations that exceeded MRLs. And of the 27 pesticides that exceeded the MRLs, 11 (40.7%) were banned for use in agriculture. The most frequently detected pesticides were Malathion (9.4%), Dichlorvos (8.7%), and Dimethoate (8.1%).Conclusion: The observed high rate of pesticides detected and high incidence of pesticide detection exceeding their MRLs in the commonly consumed vegetables indicated that the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) may not be well followed. Redroot amaranth (Amaranthus retroflexus L.) is a noxious weed that affects soybean production in China. Experiments were conducted to determine the molecular basis of resistance to bentazone. Whole-plant dose-response experiments showed that two populations (R1 and R2) exhibited resistance to bentazone with resistance indices of 9.01 and 6.85, respectively. Sequencing of the psbA gene revealed no amino acid substitution in the two populations. qRT–PCR analysis verified that psbA gene expression in R1 and R2 populations was increased significantly after treatment with bentazone, which was 3-fold and 5-fold higher than that in S1 and S2 populations, respectively. The P450 inhibitor malathion significantly reduced the level of resistance in the R1 and R2 populations when used prior to bentazone treatment. The R1 population exhibited multiple resistance to thifensulfuron-methyl and lactofen, caused by target site mutations (Asp-376-Glu in ALS , Arg-128-Gly in PPO2). In conclusion, increased gene expression of the psbA gene and enhanced herbicide metabolism seem to be the basis of resistance to bentazone in these A. retroflexus populations. Two black-grass (Alopecurus myosuroides Huds.) populations (R2105 and R1027) that were suspected to be resistant to clodinafop-propargyl, an acetyl-CoAcarboxylase (ACCase) inhibitor, were found in winter wheat fields in China. Research was carried out to investigate whether resistance to clodinafop-propargyl was present and the molecular mechanism of herbicide resistance in these two populations. Dose–response assays confirmed high level resistance to clodinafop-propargyl in both R2105 and R1027 populations, with resistance indexes 25.1 and 22.1. ACCase gene sequence comparison revealed three amino acid mutations (Trp-1999-Leu, Ile-2041-Asn, or Asp-2078-Gly) in R2105 population and Ile-2041-Asn mutation in R1027 population. Sensitivity to other herbicides assays indicated that R2105 and R1027 populations were cross resistant to fenoxaprop-P-ethyl and multiple resistant to pyroxsulam and mesosulfuron-methyl. The ALS gene sequence analysis revealed that all resistant individuals in R2105 and R1027 populations had the Trp-574-Leu mutation. Applying malathion, significantly decreased the rate of metabolism of clodinafop-propargyl in both R2105 and R1027 populations. This is the first report of multiple resistance to ACCase- and ALS-inhibiting herbicides conferred by target-site mutations and enhanced metabolism in black-grass in China. Life tables were established for trichlorphon-resistant and susceptible Bactrocera dorsalis strains based on the laboratory observations. Trichlorphon-resistant B. dorsalis strain had longer pupal and preoviposition periods, and mean generation time compared to the trichlorphon susceptible strain. Lower fecundity, emergence rate, and probability of standard fecundity PF , and shorter female and male longevity also were apparent in the trichlorphon resistant strain. Based on the life tables, the life population trend index (I) of the resistant strain was 86.80, while that of the susceptible strain was 116.97. The net reproduction rate (R0) and the intrinsic rate of increase (rm) of the resistant strain were 1565.33 and 0.0164, while those of susceptible strain were 2184.00 and 0.0173, respectively. Abstract: The present study determines the concentration of Malathion in rabbit tissues and Dipteral larvae feeding on those tissues. Malathion was found in all muscle and liver samples of the test rabbit, as well as larvae fed on it. Samples from the control rabbit and pupae from all colonies were negative for Malathion. Correlations were found between administered dosage, tissue concentrations and younger or prepuparial larvae. Effects of Malathion on the development rate of Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius) were also reported. C. megacephala is the most common fly species found on corpses in South China during the early stages of decomposition. Significant differences in larval growth rate were both observed among the colonies fed on muscle and liver. The presence of Malathion in both muscle and liver appears to retard the normal growth rate of C. megacephala in larval stage. Larvae from all colonies fed on tissues from rabbits treated with Malathion were smaller and attained maximum length later than those from the control colony. Duration of the larval and pupal stages was both significantly prolonged for larvae on tissues from rabbit receiving Malathion than those from the control colony. The difference of the duration of the larval and pupal stages together from the muscle colonies would alter the postmortem interval estimation by up to 36h. As for liver colonies, it would alter the postmortem interval estimation by up to 28h. A significantly different duration of the larval and pupal stages from the muscle colonies would alter a postmortem estimate by up to 28h relative to the liver colonies. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The gas chromatography-flame photometric detector (GC-FPD) was used to detect malathion residues content in vegetables (cherry tomatoes and broccoli) and fruits (mulberries, cranberries, and figs). The recoveries of samples were 76.2 ± 3.5%–103.9 ± 3.6% at a spike level of 0.01–10 mg/kg, the relative standard deviation (RSDs) were 2.1%–7.3%, and the limit of quantification (LOQs) were 0.01–0.02 mg/kg. On the basis of the normative field trials, the degradation half-life of malathion were 1.10–2.15 days, which indicated that malathion degrades quickly. The final distribution of malathion residues in various vegetables and fruits varied from <0.01 to 0.58 mg/kg. The long-term dietary risk assessment results showed that the national estimated daily intake (NEDI) of malathion in various populations of China ranged from 0.000021 to 0.000549 mg/kg bw, and the risk quotient (RQ) ranged from 0.007% to 0.183% and were less than 100%, which indicated that malathion has a low risk for long-term dietary intake these crops. The maximum residual limits (MRLs) of malathion can be set as 1 mg/kg for cherry tomatoes, broccoli, mulberries, cranberries, and 0.2 mg/kg for figs, respectively.
