The low-carbon design strategy that most Chinese manufacturers evaluate and improve in the product's life cycle in the late stage of product development extends the product development cycle. This paper combines low-carbon design theory with 3D design software, in the early stage of product design, by identifying low-carbon design optimization potential, the feedback mechanism of evaluation results and design recommendations is established to guide designers' conduct in low-carbon design in real time. Taking low-carbon design of Chinese automobile for instance, based on the life cycle carbon emission analysis of automobile products and the construction of a quantification model of the life cycle carbon emission, from the viewpoints of the structure, material, process, disassembly, and recycling of automobile products, this paper constructs the low-carbon evaluation index of automobile products; puts forward the method of identifying low-carbon design optimization potential of automobile parts, which is used to develop a low-carbon design integrated system for automobile products; and explains the workflow and theoretical realization scheme of the integrated system. Finally, taking the design process of automobile engine as an example, through the analysis results of the integrated system, it can be seen that the raw material acquisition stage of the engine has the largest carbon emission, and the carbon emission of the cylinder block is the largest. Based on the established evaluation model, the optimization suggestions are given on the structure and materials, and the feasibility of the integrated system is verified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

China has realised that for its own sake and from the international community's perspective, it cannot afford to continue on the conventional path of encouraging economic growth at the expense of the environment. Accordingly, the country has placed ecological goals at the same level of priority as policies on economic, political, cultural and social development. Specifically, meeting the grand goal involves not only capping China's nationwide coal consumption to let it peak before 2020 and carbon emissions peak around 2030, but also putting in place a variety of flagship programs and policies. This article argues that the 2030 carbon emissions peak goal is ambitious but achievable and concludes by arguing why there is reason to be optimistic about China's 'green push'. In the context of the carbon neutral goal proposed by China, the Iron and Steel Industry (ISI) which is responsible for considerable carbon emissions has to take effective actions to emissions reduction. As Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) has been recognized as an important technical way to reduce industrial carbon emissions in recent years, its application in the ISI is still greatly limited due to the inherent large cost and high economic uncertainty. Besides, there is also a lack of relevant research on the application of CCUS in the ISI. Therefore, it's necessary to study whether steelworks will participate in the CCUS system by applying carbon capture technology. Focusing on steelworks and employing the System Dynamics method, this paper analyzes technical and economic feasibility of applying carbon capture from the perspective of iron and steel supply chain, and identifies three key variables of the system through sensitivity analysis. The results demonstrate that steelworks can successfully apply carbon capture technology under specific conditions. Three key factors include improving the converting efficiency of reinvestment into capture technology, establishing an appropriate scheme of government subsidies, and fostering environmental awareness of downstream consumers to increase their willingness to pay for low-carbon steel.
