The mechanism of acceleration, loss, and wave–particle interaction of energetic particles in the magnetosphere is a research content of the Space Plasma Environment Research Facility, which is being built as a user facility at the Harbin Institute of Technology in China. Two magnetic perturbation coils are used to simulate the magnetic storm distortion and excite Alfvén wave perturbation. A capacitor-based pulsed power supply (PPS) system with a modular design is developed to excite the magnetic perturbation coils to generate the required amplitude and duration of the magnetic field. The two magnetic perturbation coils are the CRDI coil and CRDII coil and are excited by one set of PPSs. The PPS for the CRDI coil consists of two modules and can provide a pulsed current of no less than 132 kA at 0.12 ms when the charging voltage is 20 kV, and the duration of the pulsed current from the peak to 10% of the peak is no more than 0.7 ms. The PPS for the CRDII coil consists of five modules and can provide a pulsed current of no less than 16 kA at 0.45, 0.65, 0.8, 0.95, and 1.1 ms, and the duration of the pulsed current from the peak to 10% of the peak is no more than 4.5 ms. 3D asymmetric magnetic reconnection is an important investigation of the Space Plasma Environment Research Facility, which is being built as a user facility at the Harbin Institute of Technology in China. Four magnetosheath coils, which consist of Poloidal Field (labeled PF) coils and Toroidal Field (labeled TF) coils, are used to generate the magnetic field and plasma environment for the reconnecting experiment. A capacitor-based pulsed power supply (PPS) system with a modular design is developed to excite the magnetosheath coils to generate the required amplitude and duration of the magnetic field. The PPS system includes the PF PPS and TF PPS, which include four sets of PPSs, respectively. Each set of PF PPS and TF PPS consists of nine modules and four modules, respectively, and each module consists of a charge and discharge unit. The PF PPS can provide a pulsed current of no less than 360 kA for the corresponding PF coil at 0.11 ms when the charging voltage is 20 kV, and the duration of the pulsed current from the peak to 10% of the peak is no more than 0.6 ms. The TF PPS can provide a pulsed current of no less than 200 kA for the corresponding TF coil at 0.08 ms when the charging voltage is 20 kV, and the duration of the pulsed current from the peak to 10% of the peak is no more than 1.6 ms. The detailed design of the PPS has been discussed in this paper, and the detailed design of the main components in the discharge unit of the PPS is also given in this paper. Finally, the discharge tests of all the PPSs are carried out to verify the design of the PPSs, and the results of the PPSs in discharge tests indicate that all the PPSs meet the design requirements. The Space Plasma Environment Research Facility currently under construction at the Harbin Institute of Technology in China uses four magnetosheath coils (flux cores) and a dipole coil to generate the magnetic field required for the study on the magnetopause magnetic reconnection. Two groups of magnetopause shape control coils (labeled CK coils) are used to slightly adjust the magnetic field distribution on the magnetopause. A capacitive pulsed power supply (PPS) system with a modular design is developed to excite CK coils. The PPS system consists of six sets of PPS with the same principle and structure, which are used to excite six sub-coils of the CK coils, respectively. Each set of PPS consists of ten modules and one local controller, and each module consists of a charger and discharge unit. Each set of PPS can provide a pulsed current of no less than 400 kA for the corresponding sub-coil at 0.11 ms when the charging voltage is 20 kV, and the duration of the pulsed current from the peak to 10% of the peak is no more than 0.6 ms. The detailed design of the PPS is discussed in this paper, and the discharge test of the PPS is carried out to verify the design of the PPS. Because there are acquisition and control devices in the discharge unit, the electromagnetic interference immunity design is also discussed to ensure the normal operation of the PPS. A25 kV/40 kA protection inductor with low stray field was designed and the first prototype was fabricated. The protection inductor protected the thyristor switch in the capacitor bank, limit the current at 40 kA in case of a short circuit. It was designed as a toroidal system consisting of 12 coils evenly distributed in the perimeter of a circle. The inductance could be changed easily by adjusting the number of coils. The structure of coils was optimized to withstand the great electromagnetic force produced by the 40 kA current. The coils were wound by a 4 ∗ 45 mm copper strip standing on edge. Each coil was externally reinforced by a stainless steel ring tightly enclosing the coil. The first prototype was fabricated. Its inductance and magnetic field were tested. The prototype has been mounted in the 1 MJ module and is now in operation. In this paper, the structure design, fabrication and testing of a new protection inductor are presented. The testing results are discussed. Tested inductance was 1.05 mH and direct resistance was 16 MΩ. In this paper, a dynamic hybrid var compensator (HVC) for distribution grid is proposed. The system is based on a combination of a small-capacity distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) and multigroup large-capacity thyristor switched capacitor (TSC). The DSTATCOM is the continuous subsystem of HVC, and the TSCs are the discrete subsystem of HVC. A new hybrid control method based on expert decision has been proposed to make sure that the HVC has good performance. A two-level collaborative optimization arithmetic, which is used to decide the optimal capacity of each HVC, has been proposed in this paper. A dynamic energy-saving system based on HVCs has been developed for a melt factory in southern China; application results show that compared to traditional reactive power compensation systems, the proposed system can effectively correct power factor, support supply voltage, mitigate voltage flicker, and obtain good effect for energy saving with low cost. The thyristor is the key device for the converter of the ultra-high-voltage DC (UHVDC) project to realize AC–DC conversion. The reliability of thyristors is directly related to the safe operation of the UHVDC transmission system. Due to the complex operating environment of the thyristor, there are many interrelated parameters that may affect the aging state of thyristors. To extract useful information from the massive high-dimensional data and further obtain the aging state of thyristors, a supervised tensor domain classification (STDC) method based on the adaptive syn-thetic sampling method, the gradient-boosting decision tree, and tensor domain theory is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the algorithm applies the continuous medium theory to analogize the aging state points of the thyristor to the mass points in the continuous medium. Then, the algorithm applies the concept of the tensor domain to identify the aging state of the thyristor and to transform the original state-identification problem into the state classification surface determination of the tensor domain. Secondly, a temporal fuzzy clustering algorithm is applied to realize automatic positioning of the classification surface of each tensor sub-domain. Furthermore, to solve the problem of unbalanced sample size between aging class data and normal class data in the state-identification domain, the improved adaptive synthetic sampling algorithm is applied to preprocess the data. The gradient-boosting decision tree algorithm is applied to solve the multi-classification problem of the thyristor. Finally, the comparison between the algorithm proposed and the conventional algorithm is performed through the field-test data provided by the CSG EHV Power Transmission Company of China's Southern Power Grid. It is verified that the evaluation method proposed has higher recognition accuracy and can effectively classify the thyristor states. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
