Anesthesia is one of the main issues in surgery and has progressed a lot since two centuries ago. The formal history of surgery indicates that beginning of anesthesia backs to the 18th century, but reviewing the history of medicine shows that pain management and anesthesia has a long history in ancient times. The word "anesthesia", comes from Greek language: an-(means: "without") and aisthēsis (means: "sensation"), the combination of which means the inhibition of sensation. The oldest reports show that the Sumerians maybe were the first people that they cultivated and harvested narcotic sedative like the opium Poppy as early as 3400 BC and used them as pain killers. There are some texts which show us that Greek and Mesopotamia's doctors prescribed alcoholic beverages before their surgeries. In the Byzantine time, physicians used an elixir known as "laudanum" that was a good sedative prior the patient's operation. Ancient Persia and China were as the biggest civilizations, of which medicine anesthesia had a great role in. Giardia duodenalis is one of the major causes of diarrhea among children. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the prevalence of G. duodenalis and associated risk factors among Asian children. We searched online databases (PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science) and Google Scholar search engine for studies published from 1 January 2000 to 15 March 2022 that measured the prevalence of G. duodenalis among Asian children. Accordingly, the pooled prevalence and 95% CIs were estimated using a random-effects meta-analysis model for the included studies. A total of 182 articles from 22 Asian countries met the inclusion criteria. The pooled prevalence of G. duodenalis infection among Asian children was estimated as 15.1% (95% CI 14.1 to 16%). The highest and lowest pooled prevalence values of G. duodenalis infection were estimated for Tajikistan and China as 26.4% (95% CI 22.9 to 30%) and 0.6% (95% CI 0.001 to 1.02%), respectively. The infection had a higher prevalence in males than in females (OR=1.24; 95% CI 1.16 to 1.31; p<0.001), which was statistically significant. Microsporidiosis, caused by the zoonotic eukaryote microsporidia spp. have serious health threat in high-risk groups, including immunocompromised individuals. Cattle plays a major role as reservoirs of microsporidia among the animals because of close-contact with humans. Hence, we aimed to evaluate the prevalence and genetic diversity of cattle microsporidiosis at a global scale through systematic review and meta-analysis approach. A comprehensive literature searches of published articles related to the molecular distribution of microsporidiosis in cattle was conducted between 1 January 1990 and 20 December 2020. The confidence intervals (95 %) and point estimates were calculated using the random-effects model. A total of 1809 was retrieved from the initial search, after exclusion of irrelevant articles 37 articles met inclusion criteria to be included for final analysis. The estimated pooled prevalence of cattle microsporidiosis was 14 % (CI: 11.5-17 %) worldwide. Accordingly, the calves had the highest prevalence 20 % (CI: 14.8-26.5 %). According to internal transcribed spacer (ITS) gene, Enterocytozoon bieneusi with genotypes BEB4 (22 studies), J (21 studies), and I (17 studies) were the highest reported genotypes. The present results highlight the role of cattle as reservoir hosts for human-infecting microsporidia.
