The study of deep shale gas (>3500 m) has become a new research hotspot in the field of shale gas research in China. In this study, 16 representative deep shale samples were selected from different layers of the Wufeng–Longmaxi Formation in the Z-3 well in the western Chongqing area to conduct low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) tests, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) observation, and fractal modeling. By comparing the differences in pore structure and their influencing factors in representative samples from different layers, the particularities of high-quality reservoirs have been revealed. The results show that the Z-3 well shales mainly develop micropores and mesopores, with pore sizes of 1 nm–200 nm. The fractal dimensions of bound fluid pores D1 (1.6895–2.3821) and fractal dimension of movable fluid pores D2 (2.9914–2.9996) were obtained from T2 spectra and linear fitting, and the pores were divided into three sections based on the NMR fractal characteristics. TOC content was one of the major factors affecting the gas content in the study area. The shale samples in the bottom S1l1-1 sub-layer with a higher TOC content have larger porosity and permeability, leading to enhanced homogeneity of the pore structure and favorable conditions for shale gas adsorption. A comparative understanding of the particularities of pore structure and influencing factors in high-quality reservoirs with higher gas content will provide the scientific basis for further exploration and exploitation of the Wufeng–Longmaxi Formation deep shale reservoirs in the western Chongqing area. Aim: This trial assessed the efficacy and safety of 2.24 g intragastric expandable capsules twice per day versus placebo for weight management in adults with overweight or obesity. Methods: This double‐blind, placebo‐controlled study included adults with a body mass index of at least 24 kg/m2 and no more than 40 kg/m2. In total, 280 participants were recruited from six hospitals in China and were assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive 2.24 g oral intragastric expandable capsules or placebo for 24 weeks. Coprimary endpoints were the percentage change in body weight from baseline and the rate of weight reduction of ≥5%, assessed using both the full analysis set and per protocol set. Results: At baseline, the mean body weight was 81.8 kg, and the mean body mass index was 29.4 kg/m2. The mean body weight change at week 24 was −4.9% with intragastric expandable capsules versus −1.9% with placebo [estimated treatment difference (ETD) −3.0%, 95% confidence interval (CI) −4.1 to −1.9; p <.001] using the full analysis set and −6.1% versus −2.5% (ETD −3.6%, 95% CI −5.0 to −2.3; p <.001), respectively, using the per protocol set. The percentage of participants who had weight loss exceeding 5% was 45.0% in the intragastric expandable capsule group versus 19.7% in the placebo group (ETD 25.3%, 95% CI 14.7‐35.9; p <.001) in the full analysis set and 55.9% versus 26.2% (ETD 29.6%, 95% CI 17.1‐42.2; p <.001), respectively, in the per protocol set. Waist circumference significantly decreased at week 24 (intragastric expandable capsules vs. placebo: −5.6 ± 8.3 cm vs. −2.9 ± 4.8 cm; p =.003). The most common adverse events associated with the use of intragastric expandable capsules were gastrointestinal disorders (intragastric expandable capsule vs. placebo, 25.0% vs. 21.9%), and most were mild and transient. Conclusions: In this 24‐week trial including participants with overweight or obesity, 2.24 g of intragastric expandable capsules twice daily led to a clinically meaningful reduction in body weight compared with placebo. Objective: To provide a scientifc tool, the Temptations to Try Smoking Scale (TTSS) is introduced to evaluate its reliability and validity in preventing and intervening Chinese adolescents from smoking temptations. Methods: A questionnaire, including the TTSS, the Chinese version of the Decisional Balance Scale (CDBS), the Adolescent Smoking Curiosity Scale (ASCOS), and the Sensation-Seeking Scale (SSS), is used to test 1195 Chinese adolescent volunteers (214 of them are retested after 1 month). If all six items in the TTSS are retained, the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) reveals that the TTSS exhibits a structure of two factors: positive social and curiosity/stress. Results: The confrmatory factor analysis (CFA) shows that the two-factor model of the TTSS has the ftting indices χ2/df = 2.35, RMSEA = 0.06, and CFI = 0.99, which are better than those of its single-factor model. The total scores of the TTSS, positive social, and curiosity/stress are positively correlated with the scores of Pros, ASCOS, TAS, and Dis of SSS but negatively correlated with the Cons, hereby exhibiting good criterion-related validity. The internal consistency coefcient of the TTSS is 0.89, and the retest reliability is 0.90. Conclusion: Therefore, the TTSS has good reliability and validity for Chinese adolescents and can be used as an efective tool to evaluate adolescents' smoking temptations in China. Probiotics have become increasingly popular among cancer patients. However, there is limited data from a real-world setting. This study aims to conduct a retrospective analysis to understand the trend of probiotic prescriptions in Chinese colorectal cancer patients. The Mann-Kendall and Cochran-Armitage trend test was applied to estimate the trend significance. Gephi software identified the combination of probiotic strains. The binary logistic regression investigated influence factors, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient calculated correlations between probiotics and antitumor drug usage. The probiotic prescription percentage increased from 3.3% in 2015 to 4.2% in 2021 (Z = 12.77, p < 0.001). Although 48.3% of probiotic prescriptions had no indication-related diagnosis, diarrhea (OR 10.91, 95% CI 10.57–11.26) and dyspepsia (3.97, 3.82–4.12) included prescriptions most likely to contain probiotics. Prescriptions from the tertiary hospital (1.43,1.36–1.50), clinics (1.30, 1.28–1.33), and senior patients (1.018 per year, 1.017–1.019) were more likely to contain probiotics. Most probiotic prescriptions (95.0%) contained one probiotic product but multiple strains (69.3%). Enterococcus faecalis (49.7%), Lactobacillus acidophilus (39.4%), and Clostridium butyricum (27.9%) were the most prescribed strains. The probiotics co-prescribed with antitumor agents increased rapidly from 6.6% to 13.8% in seven years (Z = 15.31, p < 0.001). Oral fluorouracil agents (2.35, 2.14–2.59), regorafenib (1.70,1.27–2.26), and irinotecan (1.27,1.15–1.41) had a higher probability to co-prescribed with probiotics. There was no correlation between probiotic strain selection and specific antitumor drug use. The increasing prescription of probiotics in colorectal cancer patients in China may be related to treating the gastrointestinal toxicity of anti-cancer drugs. Background: Neonatal posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus remains a common complication in preterm infants, with high rates of mortality and morbidity, placing parents at high risk of anxiety and depression. We sought to investigate the neurodevelopmental outcomes of infants with posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus who underwent surgery and the psychological effect on their parents. Methods: We retrospectively analysed all infants with posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus born between 2014 and 2020 in the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, China. The neurodevelopmental outcomes of 28 patients were evaluated by the Pediatric Stroke Outcome Measure score, and the psychological states of the parents of survivors were assessed by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Results: The families of the 28 patients were followed up for a median duration of 3 years; 6 (21.4%) patients died within 6 months after discharge, 12 (42.9%) patients had moderate to severe dysfunction, and only 10 (35.7%) patients had good outcomes. Regarding the 22 parents of the survivors, 5 (22.7%) and 4 (18.2%) had borderline anxiety and depression symptoms, respectively. Two (9.1%) caregivers had exact anxiety and depression symptoms. Leukomalacia after intraventricular haemorrhage was associated with adverse neurological outcomes. The infants' histories of epileptic seizures during the neonatal period were associated with the anxiety of their parents. Conclusion: The overall outcome of posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus patients is unsatisfactory, and children with leukomalacia after haemorrhage tend to have poor outcomes. Summary: Plant foods are rich in many important micronutrients that are beneficial for bone health. This cross-sectional study of 9613 community-dwelling older adults found that more consumption of healthy plant foods and less consumption of animal foods and unhealthy plant foods were associated with a lower risk of osteoporosis. Introduction: Osteoporosis,a common chronic disease in older adults, threatens their health. Many nutrients in plant foods are important for preventing osteoporosis. However, the relationship between plant-based dietary patterns and osteoporosis remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the cross-sectional association between plant-based dietary patterns and osteoporosis in older adults. Methods: This study was conducted among 9613 community-dwelling older adults in Liaoning Province, China. The effective food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and plant-based diet index (PDI) were used to evaluate compliance with plant-based dietary patterns. Osteoporosis was defined based on heel ultrasound. We analyzed the association between healthy plant-based diet index (HPDI) and unhealthful plant-based diet index (UPDI) and the risk of osteoporosis. Results: A higher PDI was associated with higher bone mineral density (BMD) in older adults. In logistic regression models, the highest quartile of PDI and HPDI had a significantly lower risk of osteoporosis than the lowest quartile, whereas UPDI in the highest quartile was associated with a higher risk of osteoporosis. There was a dose–response relationship between the three indices and the risk of osteoporosis. Subgroup analysis revealed differences in the relationship between HPDI and the risk of osteoporosis according to gender and age. Conclusions: Older adults, especially women, consume more healthy plant foods and reduce the consumption of animal foods and unhealthy plant foods, which was associated with a lower risk of osteoporosis. Industrial prosperity is the foundation of rural revitalization. Taking the 552 agricultural industry demonstration towns (AIDTs) as the research object, this paper explores the spatial layout and influence mechanism of AIDTs in China. The research is of great significance to the layout of China's agricultural industry and the revitalization of the rural agricultural industry. This paper adopts the ArcGIS 10.3 spatial analysis method to reveal the spatial distribution characteristics, density characteristics, spatial complexity, and spatial correlation of AIDTs in China. (1) The spatial distribution of AIDTs tends to be condensed distribution with remarkable spatial differentiation. (2) The kernel density of China's AIDTs is characterized by multiple independent mononuclear centers, secondary centered bands, and sporadic distribution. (3) The AIDTs system is characterized by scaleless areas, significant fractal features, and complexity of spatial structure. (4) The AIDTs belong to positive spatial correlation present different patterns of cold and hot spots with the more concentrated spatial distribution. The research indicates that the spatial distribution pattern of China's AIDTs is highly consistent with the distribution of major grain-producing areas. It is mainly determined by factors such as good natural conditions, convenient water resources, and good regional advantages and continuously implemented agricultural industry reform. With the "three changes" reform (i.e. change resources into assets, funds into shares, and farmers into shareholders) proposed by Liupanshui City in Guizhou Province in March 2015 as a strategy, take the agricultural industry scale development model and adheres to the guidance of the agricultural industry to contribute to rural revitalization. Objective: The study aimed to investigate the attitudes of people with diabetes mellitus (DM) on COVID-19 vaccination and its influence on the glycemic control. Methods: Data were collected from a consecutive series of adults (age > 18 years) with type 2 diabetes under regular follow-ups in the Integrated Care Diabetes Outpatient Clinic of Peking University First Hospital from December 1st to December 31st 2021. An online interview questionnaire was conducted, and demographic data including age, sex category, history of drug allergy, history of hypertension, the duration of diabetes, reasons for vaccine hesitancy (VH) and adverse reactions after each injection of vaccines was collected. Glucose levels were collected from medical records. Results: Thirty-nine (22.9%) subjects experienced VH and 131 (77.1%) people living with diabetes received inactivated vaccine against COVID-19. Hesitant individuals had a higher proportion of female gender (vaccinated group vs. VH group, 62/131 vs. 26/39, p = 0.044), higher baseline glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) (vaccinated group vs. VH group, 6.56 ± 0.95% vs. 7.54 ± 2.01%, p < 0.001) and elevated baseline postprandial blood glucose (PBG) (vaccinated group vs. VH group, 8.32 ± 1.97 mmol/L vs. 9.44 ± 2.94 mmol/L, p = 0.015). Subjects of male gender (p = 0.025) and history of hypertension (p = 0.021) were likely to get vaccinated, while higher HbA1c was negatively associated with an elevated propensity to receive anti-COVID-19 vaccine (p = 0.003). Most common reasons for hesitating to receive COVID-19 vaccination were worrying about the possibility of leading to other diseases (30.8%), followed by fearing of glucose variation (17.9%). Systemic adverse reactions were reported in 30.5% individuals after the first injection of inactivated vaccines, and resolved within 3 days in medium. Fasting blood glucose (FBG) decreased significantly after the third injection compared with FBG after the second dose (second vs. third, 6.78 ± 1.24 mmol/L vs. 6.41 ± 1.30 mmol/L, p = 0.027). HbA1c reduced significantly from 6.56% before vaccination to 6.35% after the second injection (p = 0.012). Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that vaccine hesitancy was lower among male subjects and people with hypertension, while vaccine confidence was reduced in people with poor glycemic control. The influence of high-rank coal's pore characteristics on the physical properties, gas-bearing properties, and exploitation of coal reservoirs is becoming more and more prominent. How to establish the classification to describe the pore networks combining quantitative and qualitative characteristics has emerged as a major problem, which may offer a scientific foundation to deepen the understanding of this issue. In this research, the structure and fractal characteristics of reservoir pores were determined after analyzing 20 high-rank coal samples from Xinjing Coal Mine in the Qinshui Basin with the application of the high-pressure mercury intrusion method (HPMI) and argon ion polishing–field emission scanning electron microscopy (AIP–FESEM). The results show that the tested coal samples were bipolar distributed, with transitional pores and micropores dominating the pore volume, followed by macropores. The Menger sponge fractal models manifested two or three distinct straight-line segments with demarcation points of 65 nm and 1000 nm. A natural classification with three major pore types of diffusion pores (D-pores), seepage pores (S-pores), and pico pores (P-pores), demarcated by pore size intervals of 65 nm and 1 nm and seven sub-types, was established to relate pores to pore networks based on these fractal characteristics and the kinetic characteristics of methane molecules. This classification scheme can characterize the relationship between pore types and the corresponding major occurrence and transport mechanisms of the gas. In addition, P-pores and D-pores are predominately nanoscale OM pores with three major genetic types of organic constituent interparticle pores (5–200 nm), metamorphic pores (<5 nm), and intermorphic pores (<5 nm). S-pores are more complex in origin and shape features, and the major types include outgas pores, plant tissue residual pores, mineral-related pores, and microfractures. The mean radius (Pa), total pore volume (Vt), apparent porosity (Φ), and volume ratio of macro- and mesopores were positively correlated with the fractal dimension D1 of S-pores (>65 nm). Since fractal analysis is a more comprehensive characterization of reservoir structure and quantitatively reflects the pore structure, undulating state, and roughness of the inner surface, fractal parameters can be used as an important index to describe the pore structure characteristics of high-rank coal reservoirs. K -MEANS clustering algorithm and association rule mining algorithm are designed. Aiming at the low time efficiency of Apriori algorithm of association rules, an improved I + + algorithm is proposed, and the association rules are applied to students' behavior analysis, and experimental analysis is carried out. Experiments show that the running time of the improved algorithm is obviously shortened, and the time complexity is small. Because the algorithm uses Boolean matrix and stores Boolean values "0" or "1," the space complexity is also small. Therefore, the improved Apriori algorithm I + + is faster and more efficient. This paper studies the role of the four largest, traditional, state-owned banks (Big Four SOBs) during China's nationwide credit stimulus years (2009—10). We find that cities with a larger share of branches owned by the Big Four SOBs experienced larger local lending growth in credit stimulus. While the industrial/tradable sector was hit hardest by the global financial crisis, Big Four SOBs only fostered the expansion of the tertiary sector, which further led to temporary GDP growth. Consistently, we find that listed companies in cities with greater Big Four branch density also received more loan funding and invested more, yet their profitability showed no improvement in both the short and long run. Background: Transbronchial cryobiopsy (TBCB) is increasingly being identified as a potential alternative for the diagnosis of interstitial lung disease (ILD). The specimen size of TBCB is positively related to the freezing time. However, the proper initial freezing time for the clinical application of TBCB in ILD remains unknown. Methods: A prospective randomized parallel group study was employed to investigate ILD patients with unclear diagnosis, who were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from May 2019 to October 2020 and required TBCB. All patients were randomly divided into 4 groups according to the different freezing times of TBCB: 3 s, 4 s, 5 s, and 6 s groups. All operations were performed under intravenous anesthesia with endotracheal intubation, 60–65 bar pressure of freezing gas source, and 1.9-mm cryoprobe. Compare differences among groups in specimen size, complications, pathological diagnosis efficiency, and multidisciplinary discussion (MDD) diagnostic efficiency. Results: A total of 100 patients were recruited and randomly assigned into 4 groups (n = 25 each group). The specimen sizes of TBCB in ILD were positively correlated with the freezing time (r = 0.639, p < 0.05). None of the patients experienced Grade 3 severe bleeding. Pneumothorax occurred in 1 patient in the 4 s, 5 s, and 6 s groups, respectively. The diagnostic yield of MDD in the 3 s, 4 s, 5 s, and 6 s groups were 64%, 88%, 88%, and 96%, respectively (p < 0.05), but showing no significant differences among 4 s, 5 s, and 6 s groups. Conclusions: The specimen size and diagnostic efficiency of TBCB in ILD increased with a longer freezing time. When the freezing gas pressure is 60–65 bar, we recommended 4 s as the initial freezing time of TBCB, and this time is associated with high diagnostic efficiency and low incidence of complications. Background. This study evaluated the effectiveness of the multidisciplinary team (including a specialist, a dietitian, a physical exercise trainer, a surgeon for bariatric surgery, an acupuncturist, and several health educators) for obesity management and the body composition change and improvements in metabolic biomarkers during a 2-year follow-up. Materials and Methods. A total of 119 patients participated in the multidisciplinary team for obesity. Patients were followed up at 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 18 months, and 2 years after their first visit. Individuals were divided into the high-protein diet (HPD) and standard-protein diet (SPD) group according to their results on a diet questionnaire that they filled out during follow-up. Results. After 1.2 years, the mean body weight of the participants dropped from 89.7 kg to 80.9 kg (p < 0.001). The body adiposity index was reduced from 33.9 to 32.0 (p < 0.001), while the fat-free mass index from 17.0 to 15.2 (p = 0.043). Fasting glucose and HbA1c were also lower after treatment (p = 0.002 and 0.038 for FPG and HbA1c, respectively). Fasting insulin and HOMA-IR were reduced (p = 0.002 and <0.001 for fasting insulin and HOMA-IR, respectively). HDL-c increased along with weight loss (1.06 mmol/L vs. 1.19 mmol/L, p < 0.001), and transaminase levels significantly dropped (p = 0.001 and 0.021 for ALT and AST, respectively). During treatment, mean protein intake was 29.9% in the HPD group and 19.5% in the SPD group (p < 0.001). Weight loss, reduction of visceral fat area, maintenance of lean body mass, body adiposity index, and fat-free mass index showed no statistical significance between the HPD and SPD groups, as well as glucose metabolic variables. Conclusions. A multidisciplinary team for obesity management could significantly reduce body weight and improve metabolic indicators, including HDL-c, transaminase, and insulin resistance. Aims. Sarcopenia is a common condition in older individuals, especially in the elderly with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The aim of the present study was to examine the risk factors for sarcopenia in elderly individuals with T2DM and the effects of metformin. Methods. A total of 1732 elderly with T2DM were recruited to this cross-sectional observational study, and we analyzed the data using logistic regression analyses. Skeletal muscle mass, grip strength, and usual gait speed were measured to diagnose sarcopenia according to the criteria of the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia, combined with expert consensus on sarcopenia in China. Results. The overall prevalence of sarcopenia was 10.37% of the participants. In the multivariate analysis, sex, age, educational level, and BMI were risk factors for sarcopenia, with women more likely to develop sarcopenia relative to men (OR = 2.539 , 95% CI = 1.475 –4.371; P < 0.05). We observed that sarcopenia increased with age and decreased with increasing BMI and educational level (P < 0.05). Participants who took metformin alone or combined with other drugs exhibited a lower risk for sarcopenia than those who took no medication (OR = 0.510 , 95% CI = 0.288 –0.904 and OR = 0.398 , 95% CI = 0.225 –0.702, respectively; P < 0.05). Conclusions. We showed that being female and at an older age, lower educational level, and lower BMI were risk factors for sarcopenia in elderly T2DM and that metformin acted as a protective agent against sarcopenia in these patients. Introduction: The objective of the present study was to investigate the influence of cigarette smoking on serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) calcium levels in Chinese heavy smokers. Methods: One hundred and sixty-seven male subjects were divided into non-smokers (95) and heavy smokers (72). Serum and CSF calcium concentrations were assayed. Smoking status was recorded and the degree of nicotine dependence (FNTD) was assessed by questionnaire. Analysis of variance was performed to assess the differences among dichotomous groups. Partial correlations between calcium level and FNTD scores were calculated. Results: In this population-based study, heavy smokers had significantly lower serum calcium levels than did non-smokers (p <.01). There was no difference in CSF calcium levels between heavy smokers and non-smokers. The average number of cigarettes smoked per day contributed to the decreased serum calcium levels in heavy smokers, while the age of smoking onset and smoking years did not affect serum levels within the smoker group. Furthermore, serum calcium levels negatively correlated with FNTD items 1, 4, 5, 6 and total scores; however, no correlation between CSF calcium levels and FNTD scores was found. Conclusions: Serum calcium levels decreased significantly in Chinese heavy smokers and were associated with the average number of cigarettes smoked per day and the degree of nicotine dependence in heavy smokers. Background and objective: Oxidative stress has been demonstrated to be a mechanism that leads to bone mass reduction, and according to many studies, serum uric acid (UA) is a strong endogenous antioxidant that can protect bone mineral density (BMD). To date, there have been no large-scale, cross-sectional studies based on the population in northeast China to assess the relationship between serum UA and BMD. Therefore, we examined the association between serum UA and BMD among a Chinese population older than 60 years old in northeast China. Methods: This research was a cross-sectional study of 3465 Chinese individuals over 60 years old in nine communities from the city of Shenyang, which is the capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province. Participants were stratified into three groups by serum UA or BMD levels, and then Pearson's correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to study the relationship between serum UA and BMD. Results: We found that participants with higher serum UA levels had significantly greater BMD and T-values compared to those of participants with lower serum UA levels. After adjusting for confounding factors, Pearson's correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis showed that higher serum UA levels remained associated with higher BMD levels (P<0.05). In different models, the prevalence of osteoporosis (OP) among participants with higher serum UA levels was reduced by 23% to 26% (P<0.05) compared to that in individuals with lower serum UA levels. In addition, serum UA levels were negatively correlated with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and positively correlated with 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 [25-(OH)D3] (P<0.05). Conclusion: We concluded that higher serum UA levels are associated with greater BMD, and serum UA might have a protective effect on bone metabolism due to its antioxidant properties. The article discusses a study on suspected Covid-19 patients during quarantine in China to explore the potential effectiveness of social media-based intervention on psychological well-being of suspected Covid-19 patients. Topics include comparison of suspected COVID-19 patients' Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scores before and after psychological intervention, result of thematic analysis of patient interviews, and finding on a proportion of suspected COVID-19 patients.

Long range continuous monitoring information of cropping intensity is useful for sustainable agricultural management but still limited. This study filled this information gap through delivering spatiotemporal continuous datasets of cropping intensity in China during the past 30 years. Cropping intensity data were derived by a wavelet features-based method based on the long-term weekly global EVI2 (Enhance Vegetation Index with two bands) at 0.05° spatial resolution (5 km) from 1982 to 1999 and 8-day composite 500 m Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) surface reflectance products from 2001 to 2013. The remote-sensing estimated images in 2013 agreed well with field survey data (overall accuracy = 91.63%) and the national agricultural census data (r 2 = 0.89). Results revealed that the cropping intensity remarkably increased during 1982–1999 but slightly declined during 2001–2013. The overall cropping intensity increased from 1.34 in the 1980s to 1.41 in the 1990s, and then dropped to an average of 1.36 after 2000. From 1982 to 1999, approximately 93,225 km 2 single-cropped areas changed to double-cropping, primarily those located in the North China plain. However, 39,883 km 2 double-cropped areas were turned back into single-cropping areas from 2001 to 2013, principally located in the North China plain, the Middle-lower Yangtze River plain, and the hill regions of the southern Yangtze River. This reverse trend of cropping intensity was due to combined effects from the corresponding reverse variations in agricultural population, increasing agricultural mechanical power, positive agricultural policy. Granted that the traditional measure methods in calculating trade openness always trigger results of singleness and twisted outcomes, the aim of the paper is to recalculate the Chinese produce trade openness after 1978, using new measure methods consisting of the trade reliance and shares. After calculation and contrasting, obvious differences have been found between the new and traditional methods. The results of the traditional measure methods turn out to be severely underestimated, whereas the new ones are more specific to reveal the extent of the Chinese produce trade openness, along with demonstrating the function of the Chinese produce in world trade market. Based on the results, utilizing the panel data, the LA/AIDS model and price elasticity, the paper analyses the changes that rural food prices were influenced by the agricultural produce trade openness, and the changes of rural food expenditure and consumption. Acer sutchuenense subsp. tienchuanenge (Sapindaceae: Acer) is an endangered deciduous arbor species and endemic to China. Being obtained by using genome Illumina pair-end sequencing data, the complete chloroplast genome of A. sutchuenense subsp. tienchuanenge had a typical quadripartite structure, with 156,063 bp long, including a large single-copy (LSC) region of 85,772 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,117 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) (each 26,087 bp in length). A total of 136 genes were annotated, of which 113 are unique genes, including 30 tRNAs, 4 rRNAs, and 79 protein-coding genes. The overall GC content was 37.9%. The phylogenetic analysis suggested that A. sutchuenense subsp. tienchuanenge was the most closely related to A. griseum and A. triflorum. The complete chloroplast genome of A. sutchuenense subsp. tienchuanenge is valuable for assessment and conservation of genetic resources and further for phylogenetic study of Acer L. Objective: The objective of this paper is to analyze the development of China's national essential medicines list (NEML) from 1979 to 2010. These findings were then used as a basis to provide suggestions on how to improve essential medicines selection in China. Methods: The literature search was conducted on the issues related to "essential medicines", "China" and "national essential medicines lists". The information on essential medicines principles, criteria and procedures was also reviewed. Literature review and key informants interview were also conducted. Key informants were interviewed mainly on how medicines are selected at central and provincial level and how medicine selection could be improved in China. Results: In the past, China's national essential medicines list has not been successful in promoting access to essential medicines. Reasons for this failure included biased selection and non evidence-based selection. Analysis of China's essential medicines list and WHO's generic essential medicines show that two lists varied substantially in disease coverage. The NEML failed to cover some diseases of public health significance in China such as cancers. The way medicines are classified and defined is also different between the two lists, e.g., medicines in the NEML are listed without defining the dose. There are differing levels in transparency, involvement, collaboration and accountability in the way the medicines are selected. Lastly, most of the provinces selected additional medicines to complement NEML. However, in 2009 version of Chinese essential medicines list, some improvements have been noted. Conclusions: There has been significant improvement in China's NEML. The latest NEML made progress by setting achievable targets, adopting balanced guidelines and updating principles and criteria. However, there is still need to increase evidence-based selection, reassess which diseases are in need to be covered and define medicines with dosage forms and doses. In selecting medicines, efforts should be made towards higher transparency, involvement, collaboration and accountability. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients with and without diabetes in southern China.Methods: This retrospective and observational cohort study included all adult patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) who received PD in our center from January 2009 to December 2017 and were followed until December 2019. Clinical outcomes were compared by Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and cumulative incidence function, and risk factors were estimated using Cox regression analyses and competing risk models.Results: Of 401 patients receiving PD, 120 (29.9%) had type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), and 281 (70.1%) did not have diabetes mellitus (NDM). Patients with DM were older and had more cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidities than patients without DM. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that patients with DM had shorter survival (Log-rank 3.215, P < 0.0001) compared with patients without DM. Patients with DM had a lower death-censored technique survival (Log-rank 2.029, P = 0.0180), however, there was no significant difference in peritonitis-free period (Log rank 1.375, P = 0.1133). These results were reproduced after taking competing events into account. Both on multivariate Cox analysis and on multivariate competing risk regression, diabetes was an independent predictor for increased mortality and technique failure, but not for peritonitis-free survival.Conclusions: Patients undergoing PD with DM had increased risk of mortality and technique failure, and closer monitoring and additional focus in patients with DM treated by PD are, therefore, warranted. Background: The optimal choice of treatment, with hemodialysis (HD) or peritoneal dialysis (PD), for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, is still controversial. Only a few studies comparing HD and PD have been conducted in China, which has the largest number of dialysis patients in the world.Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on ESRD patients who began renal replacement treatment from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2017 in Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine. Propensity scoring match was applied to balance the baseline conditions and multivariate Cox regression analysis to compare the mortality between HD and PD patients, and evaluated the correlation between mortality and various baseline characteristics.Results: A total of 436 HD patients and 501 PD patients were included in this study, and PD patients had better survival than HD patients, but the difference was not statistically significant. For younger ESRD patients (≤60-year-old), the overall survival of PD was better than that of HD, but HD was associated with a lower risk of death in older patients (> 70-year-old). This difference was still significant after adjustment for a variety of confounding factors. Female gender, age at dialysis initiation, cardiovascular disease, cholesterol, and HD were risk factors of all-cause mortality in the younger subgroup, while PD was risk factor in the older subgroup.Conclusion: PD may be a better choice for younger ESRD patients, and HD for the older patients. It is an urgent challenge to coordinate industrialization and air quality in China since the rapid industrialization over the past forty years caused serious air pollution. In this paper, we measured the industrialization levels of the 31 regions in China from 2003 to 2017 as a sum of per capita gross domestic product (GDP), urban population (% of total), tertiary vs. secondary industry output ratio, non-agricultural output value (% of GDP), non-agricultural employment proportion, and the proportion of added value of manufacturing in the total added value of commodity. We measured air quality as a sum of annual SO 2 , NO 2 and PM 10 concentrations. In general, the industrialization level continuously increased while air pollution was reduced in spite of some fluctuations in China. Our results show air pollution presented N-shape relations with the industrialization level in China in the periods from 2003 to 2008, 2009 to 2013, and 2014 to 2017. Air pollution increases as the industrialization occurs but later deceases as the industrialization level improves. However, air pollution rebounds as the industrialization moves further but this rebound became weaker in recent years. With the association rule mining, we identified ranges of the six indicators for industrialization associated with good and poor air quality, respectively. People with epilepsy desire to acquire accurate information about epilepsy and actively engage in its management throughout the long journey of living with seizures. ChatGPT is a large language model and we aimed to assess the accuracy and consistency of ChatGPT in responding to the common concerns of people with epilepsy and to evaluate its ability to provide emotional support. Questions were collected from the International League against Epilepsy and the China Association against Epilepsy. The responses were independently assessed by two board-certified epileptologists from the China Association against Epilepsy, and a third reviewer resolved disagreements. The reviewers assessed its ability to provide emotional support subjectively. A total of 378 questions related to epilepsy and 5 questions related to emotional support were included. ChatGPT provided "correct and comprehensive" answers to 68.4% of the questions. The model provided reproducible answers for 82.3% questions. The model performed poorly in answering prognostic questions, with only 46.8% of the answers rated as comprehensive. When faced with questions requiring emotional support, the model can generate natural and understandable responses. ChatGPT provides accurate and reliable answers to patients with epilepsy and is a valuable source of information. It also provides partial emotional support, potentially assisting those experiencing emotional distress. However, ChatGPT may provide incorrect responses, leading users to inadvertently accept incorrect and potentially dangerous advice. The Three-North Shelter Forest Program (TNSFP) in China has been intensely invested for approximately 40 years. However, the efficacy of the TNSFP has been debatable due to the spatiotemporal complexity of vegetation changes. A novel framework was proposed for characterizing vegetation changes in the TNSFP region through Combining Trend and Temporal Similarity trajectory (COTTS). This framework could automatically and continuously address the fundamental questions on where, what, how and when vegetation changes have occurred. Vegetation trend was measured by a non-parametric method. The temporal similarity trajectory was tracked by the Jeffries-Matusita ( JM ) distance of the inter-annual vegetation indices temporal profiles and modeled using the logistic function. The COTTS approach was applied to examine the afforestation efforts of the TNSFP using 500 m 8-day composites MODIS datasets from 2001 to 2015. Accuracy assessment from the 1109 reference sites reveals that the COTTS is capable of automatically determining vegetation dynamic patterns, with an overall accuracy of 90.08% and a kappa coefficient of 0.8688. The efficacy of the TNSFP was evaluated through comprehensive considerations of vegetation, soil and wetness. Around 45.78% areas obtained increasing vegetation trend, 2.96% areas achieved bare soil decline and 4.50% areas exhibited increasing surface wetness. There were 4.49% areas under vegetation degradation & desertification. Spatiotemporal heterogeneity of efficacy of the TNSFP was revealed: great vegetation gain through the abrupt dynamic pattern in the semi-humid and humid regions, bare soil decline & potential efficacy in the semi-arid region and remarkable efficacy in functional region of Eastern Ordos. Policies directly or indirectly influence the development of industrial symbiosis (IS). Quantitatively analyzing the effects of policies on IS at a national level is necessary, but current research has lagged. Focusing on the symbiotic system that includes the thermal power industry, cement industry, iron and steel industry, and social sector in China, this paper assesses the efficacy of policies on this nationwide IS system between 2015 and 2022. A policy influence framework is proposed, combining a cost-benefit analysis, agent-based model, and comparative analysis. Results show: (1) the symbiosis probability of the nationwide IS system experiences a fluctuating increase. The maximum increments of the symbiosis probability are 5%, and the resulting environmental benefits are equivalent to an emission reduction of 6.99 Mt from blast furnace slag, 20.97 Mt from iron mine tailing, 36.02 Mt from household waste, 25.01 Mt from steel slag, and 22.95 Mt from fly ash. However, the stimulation effects of policies vary across different subsystems. (2) Thermal power-chemical subsystems, thermal power-environmental protection subsystems, iron and steel-environmental protection subsystems, and social sector-cement subsystems need policy support in the future. (3) Approximately 50% of fields in this nationwide IS system is insensitive to current policies; policy approaches should shift from economic stimulation to symbiotic guidance. A rainstorm process that occurred in North China from July 24–25, 2011 was accurately simulated using the Weather Research and Forecasting model, and the multi-scale characteristics of moisture transport were studied based on the simulated results. The results indicated that water vapor was carried to North China mainly by the southwest low-level jet and easterly flow, with the former playing a principal role. The enhancement and northward extension of the southwesterly wind were consistent with the increase of magnitude and northward propulsion of the moisture flux. The variation of the winds mirrored fluctuations in the amount of precipitation. In addition, the water vapor from low latitudes to North China was transported first near the boundary layer over 15°N–21°N and then primarily at 850hPa over 21°N–30°N, 900hPa over 30°N–39°N, and 800hPa over the region north of 39°N. The net budget of water vapor in North China was always positive during the rainstorm process because the zonal deficit was much smaller than the meridional surplus. The contribution of the water vapor advection was larger than that of the water vapor convergence in the prior period of rainfall, and the subsequent moisture aggregation relied on the water vapor convergence. The rainband in North China presented frontal mesoscale characteristics, and the short-term aggregation of moisture was closely related to the genesis and development of the mesoscale convective system that was triggered mainly by the cold air intrusion near the boundary layer. The underlying cold air not only lifted the warm air to trigger the convection, but it also influenced the development of the low pressure system in the lower levels, which further intensified the convergence and benefited the rapid accumulation of moisture to the convective zone near the boundary layer.
