Background: The worldwide rise in the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases has increased the recognition of the need to identify modifiable risk factors for preventing and managing these diseases. The office worker, as a representative group of physically inactive workers, is exposed to risk factors for metabolic syndrome, which is a primary driver of noncommunicable diseases. The use of virtual reality (VR) exergames may offer a potential solution to the problem of increasing noncommunicable disease prevalence, as it can help individuals increase their physical activity levels while providing a more immersive experience., Objective: This exploratory study aims to examine the interventional efficacy of at-home immersive VR exergames on metabolic syndrome biomarkers among office workers. Additionally, it seeks to investigate the impacts of at-home immersive VR exergames on the active and sedentary behaviors of office workers., Methods: A 3-arm, single-blinded pilot randomized controlled trial will be conducted to examine the therapeutic effects of at-home immersive VR exergames. A total of 120 Chinese office workers, engaging in less than 150 minutes per week of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity, will be recruited via a convenience sampling method. The participants, who will be tested over a 12-week period, will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: (1) the VR exergame intervention group, (2) the regular physical activity control group, and (3) the nonexercise control group. Throughout the 12-week trial, three categories of variables will be collected across the three groups: clinical risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome, active and sedentary behaviors, and demographics. To analyze variance among the groups, a mixed linear model will be applied to assess the efficacy of each group. Differences in metabolic syndrome clinical risk factors among all groups will be used to evaluate the effects of at-home immersive VR exergames. Changes in active and sedentary behaviors will also be used to determine the impacts of VR exergames on metabolic syndrome., Results: The ethics committee of Guangzhou University, China, approved this study on September 25, 2024. Participant recruitment will begin in early 2025 and continue for approximately 3 months. The evolutionary model of construction land serves as a fundamental pillar in national spatial development and planning research. However, previous studies have overlooked the "climbing" mode of construction land on three-dimensional terrains. To address this issue, utilizing elevation data and land use data from 2010 to 2020, this study employs slope analysis, intensity analysis, spatio-temporal transformation, and PLUS model to elucidate the spatial expansion process and driving forces of urban construction land in Chongqing from both two-dimensional and three-dimensional perspectives. The findings indicate that: (1) From a three-dimensional topographical standpoint, between 2010 and 2012, construction land gradually expanded towards low-slope areas, whereas between 2012 and 2020, it progressively extended into high-slope regions. (2) Regarding land type conversion patterns, the shift from arable land to construction land demonstrates a systematic inclination, while other transformations exhibit absolute or relative tendencies. Conversely, the conversion from construction land to arable land also displays a systematic pattern. (3) Since 2010, the growth process of construction land has transitioned from slow-equilibrium to rapid-disequilibrium with an expanding spatial disparity. (4) Most areas maintain relatively stable spatial conditions without significant jumps or transitions observed. (5) The expansion of construction land in Chongqing is primarily influenced by terrain, river, tunnel, rail transit, and other factors. Background: Assessing the current status and identifying the mechanisms threatening endangered plants are significant challenges and fundamental to biodiversity conservation, particularly for protecting Tertiary relict trees and plant species with extremely small populations (PSESP). Ulmus elongata (Ulmus, Ulmaceae) with high values for the ornamental application, is a Tertiary relict tree species and one of the members from PSESP in China. Currently, the wild populations of U. elongata have been threatened by excessive deforestation and urbanization, but limited knowledges of its genetic diversity seriously hinder conservation efforts. Therefore, a further study on the genetic diversity and drivers of genetic pattern in U. elongata is crucial for preserving genetic resources and can serve as a reference for other Tertiary relict plants and PSESP under climate change., Results: Here, a total of 12 populations from 70 individuals of U. elongata were collected covering its geographical distribution in China. Utilizing chloroplast genome datasets, we found that U. elongata exhibited remarkably low nucleotide diversity and gene flow (π = 0.00013, Nm = 0.03). Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed that genetic variation in U. elongata occurs mainly between eight clades (60.95%). The Mantel tests indicated a significant correlation between genetic differentiation and geographical distances (r = 0.3777, p < 0.05) in U. elongata populations. A notable phylogeographic structure was identified in U. elongata, comprising eight distinct haplogroups (N ST = 0.917, G ST = 0.876, p < 0.05), which was attributed to the global cooling in the East Asia and Quaternary climate oscillations., Conclusions: Overall, our study using Ulmus elongata as a representative supported the hypothesis that plants belonging to Tertiary relict species and PSESP simultaneously exhibits significantly lower genetic diversity compared to those are either Tertiary relict species or PSESP individually. Furthermore, the low genetic diversity and significant genetic differentiation in U. elongata populations can be primarily ascribed to a combination of factors, including habitat fragmentation resulting from human activities, populations contraction during LGM and small population sizes. This provides a crucial foundation for guiding conservation efforts and implementing management strategies for other Tertiary relict tree species and PSESP. Citrus peels are rich in polymethoxylated flavones (PMFs), which have beneficial health and pharmacological properties. In this study, the profiles, variations, and biological activities of PMFs in the peel extracts of 27 Citrus varieties (eight species) native to China were investigated. UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS analysis revealed that mandarin accumulated more diversity and higher detectable PMF contents. Wangcangzhoupigan (ZPG) possessed the highest antioxidant capacity. Gailiangcheng (GLC) and Bingtangcheng (BTC), sweet oranges showed excellent inhibitory effects against pancreatic lipase and α-glucosidase, respectively. Most citrus extracts effectively inhibited the production of ROS and pro-inflammatory cytokines, while increasing the accumulation of anti-inflammatory cytokines. In addition, Limeng (LM), Cupig-oushigan (GSG), and Yanxiwanlu (YXWL) showed anti-proliferative effects against DU145 and PC3 cancer cells. Urban waterfront areas, which are essential natural resources and highly perceived public areas in cities, play a crucial role in enhancing urban environment. This study integrates deep learning with human perception data sourced from street view images to study the relationship between visual landscape features and human perception of urban waterfront areas, employing linear regression and random forest models to predict human perception along urban coastal roads. Based on aesthetic and distinctiveness perception, urban coastal roads in Xiamen were classified into four types with different emphasis and priorities for improvement. The results showed that: 1) the degree of coastal openness had the greatest influence on human perception while the coastal landscape with a high green visual index decreases the distinctiveness perception; 2) the random forest model can effectively predict human perception on urban coastal roads with an accuracy rate of 87% and 77%; 3) The proportion of low perception road sections with potential for improvement is 60.6%, among which the proportion of low aesthetic perception and low distinctiveness perception road sections is 10.5%. In Southeast Guizhou, a region of China rich in ethnic diversity, the cultural landscapes of ethnic villages are increasingly vulnerable under the pressures of urbanization and tourism development. This study assesses the vulnerability of 43 ethnic villages in Leishan County using the Vulnerability Scoring Diagram (VSD) model, which evaluates exposure, sensitivity, and coping ability. Analyses using spatial autocorrelation and geographic weighted regression reveal distinct spatial patterns of vulnerability, with the northern region exhibiting higher vulnerability indices than the southern region. The study identifies tourism development, protection policies, and financial investments as primary influencing factors of vulnerability, with varying degrees of impact across different geographical areas. The impact of seasonal short-term drought on plant physiology and resilience is crucial for conservation and management strategies. This study investigated drought stress effects on growth, photosynthetic capacity, and physiological responses of Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora) seedlings in Guangxi province, China. Fertilized potted plants underwent continuous drought treatments to assess varying water supply effects. Treatments included normal water supply (CK), light drought (D1), moderate drought (D2), and severe drought (D3). Physiological indicators including net photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (Gs), transpiration rate (Tr), and intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci) were measured. Additionally, the stomatal limitation value (Ls) was calculated using the formula Ls = 1-Ci/Ca, and water use efficiency (WUE) was computed as Pn/Tr. Furthermore, parameters such as PIABS (Performance Index based on absorbed light energy), WK (the ratio of variable fluorescence FK at the K point to the amplitude FO-FJ), VJ (the ratio of variable fluorescence FJ at the J point to the amplitude FO-FP), ΔI/I0 (the relative amplitude of the 820 nm light absorption curve), superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), and malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured to evaluate the impact of drought stress on various physiological processes and antioxidant enzyme activities. Results showed significant decreases in base diameter growth (GD) and seedling height growth (GH) with increasing drought stress. Notably, moderate (D2) and severe (D3) drought treatments led to negative GD values. GD decreased by 23.79%, 114.85%, and 175.50% for D1, D2, and D3 treatments, respectively, while reductions of 40.00%, 73.33%, and 90.00% in GD were observed compared to the control (CK). Pn decreased significantly across treatments, with D1CK>D2>D3. Light energy transmission to PSI by the unit reaction center (REo/RC) initially increased then decreased, significantly smaller in D3 compared to D1. Conversely, heat dissipation absorbed by the unit reaction center (DIo/RC) increased notably in D3 compared to D1 and CK. PIABS, WK, VJ, and ΔI/I0 decreased over time, while Rubisco enzyme activity decreased, while proline (Pro) levels increased. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels significantly increased during D1 treatment but decreased with D2 and D3 treatments. Overall, drought severity had varying impacts on Cinnamomum camphora growth and photosynthetic structure, with D1 treatment maintaining normal growth and metabolic activities, while D2 and D3 treatments resulted in severe membrane damage, rendering seedlings essentially unable to survive. Introduction: This article explores the impact of innovation on urban public health, with a particular focus on panel data from 15 sub-provincial cities in China. The study aims to provide scientific evidence for policymakers by analyzing how technological innovation affects urban public health levels., Methods: The study used a panel model for empirical analysis which based on panel data from 15 sub provincial cities across the country, using the number of doctors per 10,000 people and per capita financial medical and health expenditure as proxy variables for urban public health, and using the level of technological development as the core explanatory variable for regression analysis., Results: The research results show that: (1) for public health quantified by the number of doctors per 10,000 people in cities, innovation does not have a significant promoting effect on urban public health; (2) Compared to the number of doctors per 10,000 people in a region, the per capita financial expenditure on healthcare can better measure the level of urban public health; (3) Innovation has a significant impact on urban public health, measured by per capita fiscal expenditure on healthcare., Discussion: In order to transform technological innovation into a driving force for the development of urban public health, efforts must be made from multiple aspects. The scientific establishment of the Ecological Security Pattern (ESP) is crucial for fostering the synergistic development of ecological and recreational functions, thereby enhancing urban ecological protection, recreational development, and sustainable growth. This study aimed to propose a novel method of constructing ESP considering both ecological and recreational functions, and to reconstruct ESP by weighing the relationship between ecological protection and recreational development. Utilizing Fuzhou City as a case study, a comprehensive application of methodologies including Morphological Spatial Pattern Analysis (MSPA), landscape connectivity analysis, ArcGIS spatial analysis, social network analysis (SNA), and circuit theory is employed to develop both the ESP and the Recreational Spatial Pattern (RSP). A trade-off matrix is created to facilitate the reconstruction of the ESP, delineate functional zones, and identify strategic points, followed by a thorough optimization and development strategy. The analysis revealed 36 ecological source areas (ESAs) within Fuzhou City, encompassing a total area of 5807.90 km², predominantly situated in the western and northern regions. Additionally, 98 ecological corridors (ECs) were identified, extending over 2500.55 km, alongside 100 ecological pinch points (EPPs) and 146 ecological barrier points (EBPs). The city also contains 57 recreational nodes (RNs),, which display a spatial distribution characterized by a "dense in the east, sparse in the west" pattern. Furthermore, 165 recreational corridors (RCs) were extracted, covering a distance of 3795.21 km. Based on the trade-off matrix, Fuzhou City was categorized into eight functional zones: ecological core zone, ecological important zone, eco-recreation key trade-off zone, eco-recreation secondary trade-off zone, recreational core zone, recreational important zone, recreational development zone, and elastic development zone.The study identified 95 key strategic points and 475 sub-strategic. A multifunctional and complex ESP was constructed, characterized by "one core, five districts, six corridors, and seven wedges", and a tailored ecological and recreational planning and development strategy for Fuzhou City was proposed. Existing studies have established a linear relationship between urban environments and adolescent health, but the combined impacts of subjective and objective environments on multi-dimensional health status (including physical and mental health) have not been fully explored. Furthermore, while some studies have examined the non-linear relationship between urban environments and adult health, research specifically focusing on adolescents is sparse. Using Kunming, China, as a case study, we employ Random Forest model to examine the non-linear relationship between subjective/objective neighborhood environments and adolescent physical/mental health. The results indicate that the objective environment plays a more significant role in influencing physical and mental health in adolescents. There are generally non-linear correlations and threshold effects between neighborhood environment variables and adolescents' health status. Specifically, the effects of distance to subway station, ratio of traffic safety facilities, and greening view index on adolescent physical and mental health differ. Additionally, subjective environments characterized by community management, community image, and community capital tend to positively influence adolescents' health status. Arabica coffee, as one of the world's three native coffee species, requires rational planning for its growing areas to ensure ecological and sustainable agricultural development. This study aims to establish a decision-making framework using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM), with a focus on assessing the habitat suitability of Arabica coffee in Yunnan Province, China. The impacts of climate, topography, soil, and socio-economic factors were considered by selecting 13 criteria through correlation analysis. Indicator weights were determined using the Best-Worst Method (BWM), while weighted processing was conducted using the Base-Criterion Method (BCM). Sensitivity analysis was performed to verify the accuracy and stability of the model. Additionally, several decision models were evaluated to investigate regionalizing Arabica coffee habitats in Yunnan. The results highlighted that minimum temperature during the coldest month is crucial for evaluation purposes. The BWM-GIS model identified suitable areas comprising 13.55% of the total area as most suitable, 27.46% as suitable, and 59.00% as unsuitable, whereas corresponding values for the BCM-GIS model were 9.97%, 30.43%, and 59.59%. Despite employing different decision-making methods, both models yielded similar and consistent results. The suitable areas mainly encompass Dehong, Pu'er, Lincang, Xishuangbanna, Baoshan, southern Chuxiong, eastern Honghe, southern Yuxi, and parts of Wenshan. BWM-GIS achieved an area under curve (AUC) value of 0.891, while BCM-GIS obtained an AUC value of 0.890, indicating the stability and reliability of the models. Among them, the evaluation process of BCM-GIS was simpler and more realistic. Therefore, it has high feasibility and practical value in practical application. China, the world's largest carbon emitter, plays a pivotal role in achieving carbon neutrality. This study systematically analyzes the impact of landscape indices on carbon emissions from rural settlements across more than 2800 counties using eight supervised machine learning models. To assess variable influences under diverse conditions, we also employed the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) and Accumulated Local Effects (ALE) methods. From 2000 to 2020, carbon emissions in China increased significantly, with the highest regional growth in the Northeast, surging by 259.52% to 10.199 million tons per year. After identifying the Gradient Boosted Regression Trees (GBRT) model as most effective, our findings reveal that the Mean Patch Area (MPA) index had a greater influence on emissions compared to Patch Density (PD), Edge Density (ED), and Aggregation Index (AI). Each index demonstrated unique impact characteristics and varied trends across different regions. This study leverages multi-source remote sensing data and a quasi-natural experimental design to assess the impact of the Forest Land Titling Reform on forest ecosystem quality in China. Our analysis reveals that the reform led to approximately a 1% enhancement in forest vegetation quality and a 2.5% increase in forest productivity, findings that were robust across multiple tests. The reforms' effects were more substantial in the Northeast, Northwest, and tropical forest regions than in other regions. In economically underdeveloped central and western regions, the impacts of reform were more significant than in the economically developed eastern areas. Our in-depth examination shows that the Forest Land Titling Reform has fostered increased forest ecosystem quality by securing farmers' property rights, thereby stimulating their commitment to forest cultivation and management, encouraging the infusion of operational capital, and diminishing the extent of forest disasters. Cropland changes are crucial aspects of land-use/land-cover changes (LUCC), which profoundly influence agricultural sustainability and terrestrial ecosystem health. In the context of dynamic shifts within the natural environment, coupled with the evolution of agricultural practices and the transformation of agrarian systems and policies, the trajectory of farmland alteration has exhibited significant divergence across various nations and regions. This article delves into the intriguing phenomenon of China's cropland migrating up to mountains and down to wetlands and analyses its spatiotemporal pattern evolution from 1990 to 2020. Then the study identified the driving forces behind this migration from diverse perspectives encompassing natural factors, socioeconomic factors, cropland conditions, and landscape patterns. A fixed-effect panel analysis is employed to quantify the impacts of this phenomenon on food security and ecological environment quality. The findings reveal that over the past three decades, croplands moving to mountains and wetlands have been conspicuous across the country, with a considerable area of 187,862.9 square kilometres, representing a substantial 37.15% of the newly developed arable land. In the temporal pattern, it's exhibiting a clear three-stage characteristic of "prosperity-decline-recovery". Geographically, the northeast (NER) and northwest (NWR) agricultural regions have witnessed the largest cumulative areas of cropland moving to mountains and wetlands. These cropland changes are influenced not only by natural factors and the endowment of cropland but also by economic and financial factors. Furthermore, whether cropland moves up to the mountains or down to the wetlands exerts a significantly negative effect on ecological security and food security. The Southern Hilly Region (SHR) of China plays a critical role in maintaining national ecological security and supporting global biodiversity. However, intensified human activities, such as urbanization and excessive land exploitation, have led to significant ecological degradation, posing threats to both local and global biodiversity. The current nature reserve system in SHR no longer meets the demands for local biodiversity conservation. To address these challenges, this study proposes a strategic framework aimed at enhancing biodiversity conservation in the SHR by establishing Supplementary Nature Reserves (SNRs). Using the Systematic Conservation Planning method, we identified 80 additional SNRs based on existing reserves, focusing on watersheds as the unit of analysis. We evaluated their conservation effectiveness at regional, watershed, and sub-watershed scales. The results indicate that while SNRs significantly improved habitat quality and reduced human impacts at local and smaller scales, their effectiveness varied across spatial scales. The study underscores the importance of multi-scale conservation planning and the need to integrate local and regional strategies to optimize biodiversity protection. Objective: The aim of this study was to translate the Australian Environmental Assessment Tool (EAT) into Chinese and identify culturally specific characteristics in the Chinese context for adaptation. Background: In the context of dementia-specific care, the design of the environment is considered an influential factor in supporting and maintaining skills. However, despite the increasing number of individuals with dementia in China, there is currently no valid instrument available to systematically assess the quality of the physical environment in long-term care facilities (LTCFs). Methods: This study utilized a mixed-method procedure consisting of seven steps, including translation and adaptation. The study involved focus groups comprising an expert panel ( n  = 17) and potential users ( n  = 64) of the newly developed tool. Cross-cultural adaptation was performed through Chinese literature review and literature quality appraisal, field study, and expert committee review. Results: The final version of the China Environmental Assessment Tool (C-EAT) consisted of 10 key design principles and 64 items. Sky View Factor (SVF) is commonly used to describe the impact of urban geometry on the urban thermal environment. Shading effects from plants and buildings also exert a considerable influence. To investigate the influence of view factors on outdoor thermal comfort in residential areas, we employed the Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) and view factors (SVF, TVF, BVF) as indicators to determine outdoor thermal comfort and the quantity of shaded spaces. Thermal measurements collected from 13 points in Guangzhou, China, Our findings revealed that high TVF points exhibited more stable air temperature throughout the daytime, with average temperature differentials ranging 0.4-1.9 °C lower than other points. Air temperature demonstrated a positive correlation with SVF (R 2  = 0.53), while exhibiting a negative correlation with TVF (R 2  = 0.45). Additionally, shading provided by plants and buildings manifests heterogeneity. At similar SVF levels, points predominantly shaded by plants (TVF > BVF) showcased lower Mean Radiant Temperature (MRT) and PET compared to points shaded mainly by buildings (BVF > TVF). The maximum reduction in air temperature and PET reached 1.1 °C and 1.2 °C, respectively. BVF exerted greater influence earlier in the morning, as solar altitude angle rises, the average thermal parameters of sites with BVF > TVF escalated rapidly until eventually surpassing sites with TVF > BVF. Last, superior thermal conditions were only ensured under high shading conditions. The impact of fiscal decentralization on environmental pollution is a widely debated topic that remains inconclusive. Central to this discussion is whether local governments pursue a "race to the top" or "race to the bottom" competitive strategy. The environmental federalism theory provides insight into this dynamic within federal system but falls short in explaining similar phenomenon in non-federal systems. This study utilized a quasi-experiment originated from the "Province-Managing-County" reform in China spanning from 1997 to 2017 to explore the impact of fiscal decentralization on environmental pollution. The findings reveal that the "Province-Managing-County" reform resulted in a general exacerbation of environmental pollution, the PM 2.5 concentration in pilot areas increased by 2.894 μg/m3, but the effect exhibits heterogeneity in terms of different time and space. Subsequent analysis uncovered that the institutional environment and competitive endowments significantly influenced the enviromental governance of local governments, while the promotion motivation of main officials does not exhibit significant effect. This study offers a precise assessment of the impact of fiscal decentralization on regional environmental governance and sheds light on the diverse outcomes reported in prior studies. The complex life cycle traits of amphibians make them especially sensitive to environmental change, and their ongoing conservation requires the maintenance of suitable habitat that accounts for such life cycle characteristics which may impacted by local environmental dynamics arising from climate change and human disturbance. Many existing studies on amphibian habitats disregard this important issue, leading to uncertainty in managing critical habitats. The application of appropriate conservation practices is therefore constrained by the fact that the major factors influencing amphibian habitats, and their spatio-temporal dynamics at different life stages, are poorly understood. In responding to this notable shortcoming, we applied a Bayesian Belief Network model and geographical detector method to identify spatial and seasonal changes in threatened amphibian habitats of the Yangtze River Delta region (YRDR). Our results reveal the relative importance of different environmental factors contributing to spatio-temporal change of threatened amphibian habitats in YRDR. The results highlight the spatially heterogenous nature of amphibian habitats and the impacts of urbanization, as evidenced by quantitative metrics of percentage area of built-up land and distance to built-up land. Habitat conservation priority analyses also indicate the importance of prioritizing habitat restoration efforts in severely degraded areas. Analysis of seasonality indicates that amphibians face particularly severe challenges during their autumn hibernation period (Slope=-0.002). In revealing seasonal variations in the level of threat to amphibians at different life stages across different habitats, this study fills an important knowledge gap and therefore supports regional amphibian habitat conservation and restoration efforts. Contemporary climate change is causing spatial redistributions of many species, potentially undermining the effectiveness of existing protected areas (PAs). This raises concerns about whether current PAs are connected enough to capture climate-induced range shifts and how to expand PAs to support this ecological process. Hence, we conducted a national-scale assessment of climate connectivity for the terrestrial PAs across mainland China. We found that most PAs are structurally connected to cool ones through low human impact (LHI) areas along temperature gradients. The connected PA networks could enable species to migrate and avoid an average climate warming of 2.9 °C under moderate emission scenario. Nevertheless, less than half (46.2%) of the PAs have achieved successful climate connectivity. To facilitate climate-induced range shifts, we identified priority areas for conservation based on their importance in supporting connections between PAs. Background: Environmental noise seriously affects people's health and life quality, but there is a scarcity of noise exposure data in metropolitan cities and at nighttime, especially in developing countries., Objective: This study aimed to assess the environmental noise level by land use regression (LUR) models and create daytime and nighttime noise maps with high-resolution of Guangzhou municipality., Methods: A total of 100 monitoring sites were randomly selected according to population density. The Equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure level (L Aeq ) was measured on weekdays from December 2022 to May 2023 during daytime [morning (7:30-12:00), afternoon (13:00-16:30), evening (17:30-22:00)], and nighttime (23:00-7:00) with 30 min of measurement at each site in winter/spring and summer/autumn. The LUR model was constructed by a supervised forward stepwise method to predict the noise exposure level via introducing the geographic predictor variables. A ten-fold cross-validation method was utilized to assess the performance of LUR models., Results: A total of 800 times of measurements were conducted and the average equivalent continuous L Aeq of monitoring sites was 65.79 ± 7.45 dB(A). Urban areas exhibited higher noise levels than suburban areas (66.95 ± 7.37 dB(A) vs. 63.08 ± 6.94 dB(A), P < 0.001). Further, the noise level during the day was also significantly higher than during the night (67.18 ± 6.50 dB(A) vs. 61.60 ± 7.59 dB(A), P = 0.001). Four LUR models were developed with adjusted R 2 ranging from 0.54 to 0.76, and the R 2 of the ten-fold cross-validation varied from 0.61 to 0.79. Points of interests (POIs), traffic-related variables, and land use were important predictive factors in LUR models. Noise maps of daytime and nighttime with a resolution of 50 × 50 m were created, respectively., Conclusion: Our results revealed that daytime and nighttime environmental noise exceeded the recommended values from the World Health Organization in Guangzhou. This study aims to provide technical support for the development of a rational administration strategy for indoor environment and passenger flow of stations. The analysis was conducted monitor data of long distance bus stations and train/high speed railway stations from the National project. The monitor and surveyed data included indoor airborne culturable bacteria (IAB), passenger flow, area and height of stations. Data analysis involved the use of paired non-parametric tests, correlation analysis, and mixed linear regression methods. A total of 132 pairs of stations were examined in this study. Additionally, significant variations were observed in the monitoring results for the IAB and passenger flow between 2019 and 2020 (p < 0.05). Specifically, the median values of these two factors in 2020 decreased by 50.52% and 48.33%, respectively, compared to 2019. (p < 0.05). A positive relationship between the daily average passenger flow and the IAB in long distance bus stations and train stations, particularly pronounced with medium sized waiting rooms, which located in subtropical cities with a general level of economic development. The mixed effect regression analysis revealed a significant association between passenger flow (OR = 1.564, 1.288-1.898), per capita volume (OR = 0.856, 0.733-0.998), and per capita area (OR = 0.806, 0.678-0.956) with the IAB (p < 0.05) just in long distance bus stations. Objectives: The allocation of resources in elderly care institutions is directly linked to the well-being, quality of life and sustainable development of public health for the elderly. However, a disparity in elderly care resources between urban and rural areas exists. Therefore, this study aimed to explore resource allocation efficiency in China's urban and rural institutional elderly care., Study Design: Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research integrated quantitative analysis with spatial-temporal assessments to investigate spatial-temporal evolution patterns of resource allocation efficiency., Methods: A Projection Pursuit Evaluation Model (PPM) utilising an Accelerated Genetic Algorithm was applied to measure the input and output of urban and rural elderly care institutions. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used to visualise the static and dynamic efficiency. Spatial analysis techniques determined the spatial evolution of resources., Results: Significant disparities in resource allocation between urban and rural areas were identified, with rural areas facing declining numbers of elderly care institutions despite having a larger ageing population. The efficiency analysis revealed room for improvement in both urban and rural settings, emphasising the need to strengthen management and technology in elderly care institutions., Conclusions: Addressing the challenges of elderly care in China requires policy reform, enhanced government support and stimulation of private investment, particularly in rural areas. The declining birth rate is one of the world's major challenges. There is much literature on birth rate research in China. However, there are few studies on spatial distribution and influencing factors of birth rate in the Yangtze River Basin. In this study, data from 11 regions of the Yangtze River Basin from 2006 to 2023 were used to analyze the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of birth rates using GIS spatial visualization and four-quadrant diagram. At the same time, 13 factors affecting birth rates were combined to carry out research. The results show that: (1) In 2023, five regions reported birth rates above 7‰, with Tibet faring the best, while six regions had rates below 7‰, with Hunan being the least favorable. (2) The first type of birth rate area shows a process of slow increase-slight decrease-accelerated growth-rapid decrease; the second type of birth rate area shows a process of gradual decrease-moderate increase-rapid decrease-rapid increase-rapid decrease; the third type of birth rate area has increased rapidly since 2021. The three types of birth rate areas show the characteristics of the spatiotemporal pattern of continuous spread and development. Current research on building carbon emissions primarily focuses on various carbon emission assessment models and the use of life cycle analysis to evaluate overall building carbon emissions, with limited attention given to excavation engineering. Based on the life cycle method and process analysis, this study analyzes carbon emissions in excavation engineering by optimizing the evaluation model for fuel consumption standards of freight vehicles during the transportation phase in China. To account for the difference between actual and rated fuel consumption of transport vehicles, factors such as road conditions, traffic congestion, and temperature are introduced to adjust the carbon emission calculation model for the transportation phase. This approach reasonably incorporates the impact of fuel consumption during vehicle idling on carbon emission calculations. Using the 02B excavation of the Beijing Sub-Center Station transportation hub as a case study to validate the proposed method, the analysis reveals that the primary source of carbon emissions in excavation engineering is earthwork transportation, accounting for 40.50% of total emissions. Among these, earthwork transportation contributes 95.28% of emissions within the transportation phase. Due to adjustments in the carbon emission calculation model for the transportation phase, carbon emissions increased by 1,226.79 tons, accounting for 9.2% of the total. Background and Aims: Subtropical China is dominated by evergreen broad-leaved forests (EBLFs) and is acknowledged as a critical region for its high floristic richness and endemism. Our understanding of the evolutionary mechanisms of such global biodiversity hotspots comes almost exclusively from long-lived tree species. Herbaceous plants represent critical biodiversity components in forests, but the diversification history of understorey herbs in subtropical EBLFs remain poorly understood. Here, we investigated the phylogeographical patterns and demographic history of Oreocharis auricula, a widespread perennial herb endemic to the EBLFs of subtropical China., Methods: Both chloroplast DNA sequences and single-copy nuclear genes were used to investigate the genetic variation among 657 individuals from 68 populations. Evidence from molecular dating, demographic history construction and species distribution modelling was also combined to infer the phylogeography and evolutionary history of O. auricula., Key Results: Strong phylogeographical signals have been congruently observed using nuclear and plastid DNA markers, with the diversification patterns generally consistent with the recognized floristic subdivisions of subtropical China. Notably, we revealed an important phylogeographical barrier along the Nanling mountain range, which is also around a climatic transition at 24-26°N latitude in subtropical China, separating the south monsoon subtropical EBLFs from the mid-subtropical EBLFs. Demographic expansion and significant niche divergence were detected among the extant lineages, which may have diverged during the early Pleistocene., Conclusions: The inherent characteristics of understorey herbs with limited dispersal and short generation time intensify the genetic divergence response of O. auricula to abiotic forces, contributing to the profound phylogeographical imprints of mountains and climate in such herbaceous flora. To further substantiate the generality of the identified patterns, it is paramount to extend phylogeographical investigations to other understorey herbaceous taxa in subtropical China. Vernacular architecture, optimized over centuries to create comfortable thermal environments using sustainable design strategies and local materials, can offer valuable insights for contemporary eco-friendly architectural design. This research investigates the sustainable design strategies of vernacular architecture in southwest Hubei, focusing on the First Granary of Xuan'en County as a representative case study. Through field investigations of indoor environments, this study explores how traditional architectural practices have addressed the region's complex mountainous terrain and hot, humid climate. Major sustainable design strategies include rational site selection and layout adapted to the terrain, building forms and spatial organizations tailored to the environmental conditions, and the use of a "double-skin" envelope structure to enhance thermal insulation and ventilation. The results demonstrate that the average temperature of the grain depot does not exceed 25°C without active means, meeting the quasi-low temperature storage standard. Through comprehensive field research and analysis, this study demonstrates how these traditional design strategies not only improve indoor thermal comfort and energy efficiency but also align with local economic levels and modern living requirements. Purpose: While the impact of social support on academic performance is acknowledged, the specific mechanisms by which social support affects academic performance, particularly through self-efficacy and learning engagement, remain poorly understood. This study aims to examine the correlation between social support and academic achievement among Chinese middle school students, framed within the Social Cognitive Theory. It also seeks to explore the mediating roles of self-efficacy and learning engagement in this relationship., Method: Data was collected from 265 individuals (mean age = 13.47 years, SD = 0.5) in four middle schools in Shandong Province, China in June 2023, using the simple random sample technique. Participants completed the questionnaires independently, and the data was analyzed using the structural equation model (SEM) in AMOS 24.0 and SPSS 24.0., Results: Social support and academic performance have a direct and significant relationship with the SCT among middle school students. In addition, social support indirectly and positively affects academic performance through self-efficacy and learning engagement. Urbanization greatly impacts both the diversity of soil seed banks and the spatial dynamics of species. These seed banks serve as a window into the ecological history and potential for recovery in urban wastelands, which are continually evolving due to urbanization. In this study, we selected 24 plots along urban-rural gradients in Shanghai, China. Soil samples were collected from each plot for seed bank germination experiment in both spring and autumn. We tested whether the seed density, species diversity, and composition of soil seed banks in wasteland varied along an urban-rural gradient. The results showed that seed density was higher in autumn than in spring and no significant difference was found along urban-rural gradients. A total of 74 species, belonging to 26 families and 69 genera, was recorded in soil seed banks, in which annuals were the dominant life form and autochory was the dominant dispersal model. The proportion of exotic species was nearly 40%. There is no significant difference along urban-rural gradients for functional composition, species diversity, and species composition, excepting that marginal significant for autumn Shannon-Wiener index and species composition among urban-rural gradients. Butterflies are crucial bioindicators of urban environmental changes. Utilizing urban green spaces to create ecological corridors and habitats is essential for maintaining biodiversity. Therefore, understanding the factors that influence landscape patterns in urban green spaces and their impact on butterfly diversity is crucial. This study investigated how landscape patterns in urban green spaces affect butterfly diversity through a year-long survey across 24 urban parks in Fuzhou. The main findings were as follows: (1) A total of 7786 butterflies from 59 species were recorded, with the highest species diversity and richness observed in Fushan Country Park. Seasonal abundance peaked in summer, while richness was highest in autumn. Species composition varied significantly across park types. (2) Monophagous butterfly diversity was positively correlated with woodland proportion and negatively to waterbody largest patch index. Polyphagous and oligophagous butterfly diversity showed positive correlations with woodland aggregation index and grassland proportion within 500 m buffers, but negative with construction land proportion. Factors such as the waterbody proportion and landscape division index influenced butterfly diversity in different activity spaces. (3) Butterfly communities with different feeding types and vertical activity space ranges responded differently to landscape pattern indices. Microplastic (MP) pollution is prevalent in urban water environments, with increasing evidence of its negative environmental impacts. This study examines the role and mechanisms of aquatic plant landscapes in the ecological remediation of MP (0.05-5 mm) in urban constructed wetland parks, using the Living Water Park in Chengdu as a case study. Over a period of two years, a systematic investigation of MP characteristics, abundance and distribution in the water environment as well as aquatic plant landscapes in the park. Sampling was carried out for the three stages of the Fuhe River before, during and after its flow through the park, and for the water bodies at each step of the water purification system within the Living Water Park, and a total of 66 samples of freshwater microplastics (MPs)were collected at 8 preliminary and 25 official sampling sites selected. MPs were observed in all samples, with higher abundance found in more close-to-natural areas, such as ecological wetlands and streams. Aquatic plants play a crucial role in MP remediation through adsorption, uptake (Mp ≤ 5 μm) and accumulation. A positive correlation was found between MP abundance, aquatic plant species diversity, and public landscape evaluation. More diverse and layered wetland plant configurations exhibited better MP remediation capabilities. The study suggests specific aquatic plant species and combinations for optimal MP remediation, emphasizing the importance and feasibility of aquatic plant landscapes in urban constructed wetland parks. Background: The genus Impatiens, which includes both annual and perennial herbs, holds considerable ornamental, economic, and medicinal value. However, it posed significant challenges for taxonomic and systematic reconstruction. This was largely attributed to its high intraspecific diversity and low interspecific variation in morphological characteristics. In this study, we sequenced samples from 12 Impatiens species native to China and assessed their phylogenetic resolution using the complete chloroplast genome, in conjunction with published samples of Impatiens. In addition, a comparative analysis of chloroplast genomes were conducted to explore the evolution of the chloroplast genome in Impatiens., Results: The chloroplast genomes of 12 Impatiens species exhibited high similarity to previously published samples in terms of genome size, gene content, and sequence. The chloroplast genome of Impatiens exhibited a typical four-part structure, with lengths ranging from 146,987 bp(I. morsei)- 152,872 bp(I. jinpingensis). Our results identified 10 mutant hotspot regions (rps16, rps16-trnG, trnS-trnR, and rpoB-trnC) that could serve as effective molecular markers for phylogenetic analyses and species identification within the Impatiens. Phylogenetic analyses supported the classification of Impatiens as a monophyletic taxon. The identified affinities supported the taxonomic classification of the subgenus Clavicarpa within the Impatiens, with subgenus Clavicarpa being the first taxon to diverge. In phylogenetic tree,the Impatiens was divided into eight distinct clades. The results of ancestral trait reconstruction suggested that the ancestral traits of Impatiens included a perennial life cycle, four sepals and three pollen grooves. However, the ancestral morphology regarding fruit shape, flower colour, and spacing length remained ambiguous., Conclude: Our study largely supported the family-level taxonomic treatment of Impatiens species in China and demonstrated the utility of whole chloroplast genome sequences for phylogenetic resolution. Air Quality Standards (AQSs) worldwide have continued to employ concentration-based approaches since their first implementation under the 1970 Clean Air Act in the United States. The primary objective of establishing these AQSs is widely recognized as protecting public health. With the significantly improved understanding of the health risks associated with air pollutants today, it is an opportune time to reassess air pollution management from a fundamental risk perspective. This study applied a risk-based AQS system to assess the overall mortality risks associated with both long- and short-term exposure to air pollution in China between 2015 and 2022. The analyses revealed that the health benefits resulting from reductions in concentrations of non-ozone (O 3 ) pollutants exceeded the health risks associated with increasing O 3 concentrations. As a result, the overall mortality risk across China showed a significant descending trend. During the initial phase of decarbonization, emission reductions may unintentionally lead to increased O 3 concentrations in China due to the non-linear response of O 3 to its precursors. Nevertheless, the overall health benefits derived from emission controls incentivize governments to implement stringent measures toward achieving carbon neutrality. Understanding the relationship between recharge water quality and algal metabolism is critical for managing eutrophication in urban landscape water bodies. This study investigates six landscape water bodies in Xi'an City, utilizing natural and reclaimed water recharge sources to cultivate and evaluate the growth and biomass composition of Chlorella vulgaris. The findings revealed that the growth and metabolic rate of C. vulgaris were faster in reclaimed water sources, whereas nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) conversion rates were higher in natural water sources. Redundancy and statistical analyses indicated that total nitrogen (TN) in reclaimed water was a major factor influencing C. vulgaris growth, contributing 74.3 % to its growth dynamics. In contrast, natural water sources did not significantly affect the growth characteristics of C. vulgaris. The biomass characteristics of C. vulgaris across different recharge water sources were similar, exhibiting a strong correlation with water quality. Environmental factors such as COD, N/P ratio, and PO 4 -P contributed most significantly to biomass accumulation. The water-level fluctuation zone (WLFZ) is a unique riparian region that forms in response to the operation of the reservoir. The periodic submersion-exposure conditions severely affect the properties of soil and vegetation, thus also change the spatial and temporal development of soil aggregate stability. Nonetheless, the changes in both space and time concerning soil aggregate stability and the factors influencing it during the exposure period in the WLFZ are still unclear. Consequently, the WLFZ within the Three Gorges Reservoir area (TGRA) was taken as the research object, soil and plant samples were obtained from various elevations along the slope at different times to capture the spatial and temporal changes in soil and plant characteristics throughout the exposure period. Moreover, the wet sieving method was utilized to measure the aggregate size distribution and stability of soil aggregates. To further analyze the effects of both individual and mutual variables on the spatial and temporal changes in aggregate stability, methods such as Pearson ' s correlation analysis, redundancy analysis (RDA), variation partitioning analysis (VPA), and partial least squares path modeling (PLS-PM) were employed. The findings revealed that aggregate stability increased with increasing elevation until peaking and then decreased spatially, whereas the passage of time contributed to enhanced aggregate stability. The spatial variation in aggregate stability was greater than temporal variation. RDA revealed that soil properties (bulk density, soil water content in mass, clay, silt, sand, pH and soil organic matter), environmental factors (elevation, water level, submersion duration and exposure duration) and plant characteristics (shoot and root biomass) contributed 53.6 %, 45.4 % and 0.9 %, respectively, to the spatiotemporal variability in aggregate stability. VPA and PLS-PM analysis further revealed that the main factors controlling the aggregate stability were soil chemical properties. Background: Numerous species of Ardisia are widely used for their medicinal and ornamental values in China. However, accurately identifying Ardisia species at the molecular level remains a challenge due to the morphological similarities among different species, the complexity of interspecific variation, and the limited availability of genetic markers. In this study, we reported 20 chloroplast genomes of Ardisia species from China and combined them with 8 previously published chloroplast genomes to conduct a comprehensive analysis for phylogenetic relationships and adaptive evolution., Results: For the 28 Ardisia species analyzed in this study, the size of the chloroplast genomes ranged from 155,088 bp to 156,999 bp, and all exhibited a typical tetrad structure with conserved gene content and number. Each genome contained 85-88 protein-coding genes, 36-37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Comparative analysis showed that the genomic structures and gene order were relatively conserved with slight variations in the inverted repeat regions (IRs). Simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were predominantly single nucleotide repeats, while repeat sequences were mainly composed of palindromic and forward repeats. Twelve highly variable regions were identified as potential DNA barcodes for species identification and phylogenetic analysis of Ardisia. The phylogenetic tree supported the division of the subgenus Bladhia s.l. into two subgenera: Bladhia s.str. and Odontophylla (Yang) Huang. Further investigation revealed that two protein-coding genes (rbcL and rpoC2) were under positive selection and might be associated with the adaptation of Ardisia species to shaded environments., Conclusion: Our study analyzed the chloroplast genomes of 20 Ardisia species from China to explore their phylogenetic relationships and adaptive evolution. By combining these results with data from eight previously published chloroplast genomes, the essential characteristics of Ardisia chloroplast genomes were clarified. Road-Deposited Sediments (RDS) samples were collected from four different roads in Beijing, and the distribution of pollutants in RDS with various particle sizes was compared. In this study, the cumulative mass of RDS exhibited a positive correlation with the number of dry days, and the RDS load below 75 μm was also influenced by road traffic volume. As traffic volume escalated, there was a corresponding increase in the load of these smaller RDS. Most pollutants accumulated within RDS with sizes below 150 μm, rendering them the primary contributors to the pollution. In terms of the antecedent dry-weather days, fifteen days emerged as a potentially pivotal point, with both the rate of pollutant accumulation and the contribution of pollution sources to RDS having stabilized after this duration. The origins of pollutants in roads of different functional areas exhibited certain disparities. The pollutants on major roads with high traffic volume were attributed to frequent vehicular activities. The pollutants on residential roads stemmed from soil particles and fallen leaves in the roadside green belts as well as from human activities. High-altitude areas are thought to be more sensitive to climate change, but long-term series of land surface temperature (LST) observations are still inadequate in low-latitude high-altitude mountainous areas. We investigated spatiotemporal variations in the LST and its dominant driving factors at different time scales based on the long-term series (2001 - 2020) of MODIS data over the Yunnan Province (YNP) in southwest China, with a special focus on elevation-dependent warming (EDW). The results indicated that annual LST generally increased at a rate of 0.18 °C decade -1 over the past 20 years, and the increase was stronger in summer (0.47 °C decade -1 ). Moreover, the nighttime warming rate (0.43 °C decade -1 ) was much faster than that during the daytime (- 0.08 °C decade -1 ), indicating that there was an asymmetric diurnal warming. We also confirmed the presence of EDW, which behaves more greatly above 3500 m. Spatially, the warming trend in high-cold mountains, hot-dry river valleys and the tropics was obvious, while the trend in the northeastern YNP and western side of the Ailao Mountains was opposite. On the timescales of annual, autumn and winter, more than 60% of the LST in the study area was mainly affected by temperature, and 20% ~ 30% was affected by precipitation. LST and warming trend largely differenced with respect to land cover types, with the highest values occurring in built-up lands. The presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in surface water has been widely reported in recent years. Many techniques, e.g., adsorption, have been investigated to remove PFAS from contaminated waters. However, the underlying impacts of PFAS on conventional drinking water treatment have been overlooked so far. In this study, we hypothesized whether PFAS have significant impacts on algae in surface water, which in turn may influence the performance of typical treatment processes (e.g., coagulation/membrane filtration). Therefore, we sampled a representative surface water (drinking water source) in Beijing, China, and dosed 2 representative PFAS compounds, at environment concentrations, to conduct bench-scale treatment tests. Results showed that the presence of PFAS caused larger flocs during coagulation and more severe ultrafiltration (UF) membrane fouling, compared with a control solution without PFAS. Specifically, PFAS at a low concentration (0.1 μg/L) led to the greatest influence on floc growth and UF membrane fouling; compared with the solution without PFAS, the floc size increased by 1.6 times and membrane flux declined more than 10%. These effects were evidenced by the stress response of algae under PFAS stimulus, secreting more biopolymers (mainly polysaccharides), rather than by PFAS directly. Emergency management of municipal solid waste during public health emergencies is crucial for curbing the spread of viruses and controlling environmental pollution. Most existing solid waste management systems, are designed with a top-down approach, covering multiple industries and sectors. However, these systems often fail to effectively manage potentially viral solid waste in household waste, which impedes effective solid waste management during public health emergencies and increases the risk of viral outbreaks. For example, during the COVID-19 outbreak, negligent management of potentially viral solid waste may result in the formation of a potential transmission chain of COVID-19 virus. Improper waste management may contaminate natural vectors such as water, soil and air, thereby increasing the pathways of human contact with infected vectors and promoting the risk of transmission of viral diseases such as dengue, Zika and hepatitis A. In this study, the applicability and limitations of the Chinese public emergency management system in the disposal of Potentially Viral/Viral Municipal Solid Waste (PVMSW) were analyzed in the breakout of public health crises. To address the need for precise risk control, efficient collaboration among key stakeholders, functional integration crossing multiple management organizations and flexible responses to complex situations, we proposed a PVMSW emergency management system based on a "Beam-Column Structure" model. This system consists of four modules: main traction, organizational leadership, functional articulation and demand matching. Each module is supported by the corresponding safeguards, including multi-level subject responsibilities, multi-scenario organization and implementation, multi-chain process connection and multi-demand control methods. The PVMSW emergency management system proposed in this study contributes to extending the framework of existing waste management protocols and enhancing the timely collection, transportation and disposal of PVMSW in public health crises. Toxic metal content testing, environmental magnetic monitoring and in vitro bioaccessibility experiments each have their own advantages and are often used independently for environmental monitoring, but there are few studies that combine the three to evaluate the hazards of toxic metals to humans. This paper investigated the total content, magnetic properties and bioaccessibility of nine potentially toxic metal elements (Zn, Sn, Pb, Cu, Fe, Ni, Cr, Sr, Mn) in dustfall from different functional zones in Shanghai, China, and systematically compared the related results. The results show that these nine metal elements have different degrees of contamination and enrichment in outdoor dustfall, and their content distribution shows the following trend: Zn > Sn > Pb > Cu > Fe > Ni > Cr > Sr > Mn. Magnetic characteristics χ lf and SIRM are mostly positively correlated with the metal elements, indicating that the higher the content of magnetic minerals in the sample, the higher the concentration of metal elements. It was also found that χ lf , SIRM, and χ ARM can well reflect the characteristics of dustfall pollution. The magnetic minerals have a certain degree of enrichment, and the particle size of the magnetic minerals is relatively coarse, mainly in the form of coarse multi-domain and pseudo-single-domain particles, which are largely derived from anthropogenic pollution. The χ lf and PM 10 concentrations in the precipitation show relatively similar spatial trends, so χ lf , SIRM, and χ ARM can be used as air pollution indices to facilitate the evaluation of metal elements pollution in dustfall. The overall trend in gastric bioaccessibility is Pb > Zn > Mn > Cu > Cr. Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the health benefits of green spaces, yet research on how specific elements of natural infrastructure affect well-being during the pandemic has been limited., Methods: This study, conducted at Sichuan Agricultural University with 300 students in 2022, investigated how urban natural infrastructure impacts physical and psychological well-being during the pandemic. Different aspects of natural infrastructure, such as thermal comfort, air quality (negative ion concentration), and noise and light levels, varied in their positive effects on students' health., Results: The findings revealed that 65.6% of university students felt reduced stress when engaging with outdoor spaces, and 72.8% of them renewed recognized the therapeutic value of nature., Discussion: The study emphasizes the importance of incorporating natural elements into urban planning to enhance outdoor activity and well-being, especially in post-pandemic settings. Poverty in multi-ethnic regions has always been a concern due to its complex factors and persistent nature. Using a sample of 8,482 ethnic majority-headed households and 2,011 ethnic minority-headed households distributed in 200 villages of Wangqing County, China, this study uses hierarchical linear models to examine the factors of income at the household level, the ethnic disparities of the household-level effect, and the contextual effect on household-level outcomes. The findings suggest that, in comparison to the majority group, there exists a smaller income gap between male-headed and female-headed poor households within the minority group. Moreover, the positive impact of participating in off-farm work and receiving welfare payments on the income of poor households is significantly stronger within the minority group. These results not only highlight ethnic disparities in household-level effects but also underscore potential influences of ethnicity on the income dynamics of poor households. The contextual effect demonstrates that modifying the environment of poor households can either enhance or diminish some of the impacts resulting from factors at the household level, thereby facilitating the formulation of more effective targeting strategies at different levels. Barium (Ba) is a significant contaminant from shale gas extraction and is also used in various other industries. However, there has been very limited attention paid to Ba. Elucidating the Ba in soil-crop system are of great significance for both human health risk assessment and pollution control. In this study, the bioavailability of Ba in soils was studied by using various characterization methods. Then the major factors dominating the transfer of Ba in soil-bok choy system and a suitable predicted model was derived. The results showed that Ba was mainly accumulated in the roots (transfer factor < 0.3). The relationships between Ba in shoots and the bioavailability of Ba characterizing with different methods increased in the order of CH 3 COOH (R 2  = 0.81) < ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (R 2  = 0.87) < pore water (R 2  = 0.89) < diffusive gradients in thin film (R 2  = 0.90) < CaCl 2 (R 2  = 0.91). The major soil properties affecting Ba in shoots were pH (r = -0.32, P > 0.05), cation exchange capacity (r = -0.43, P < 0.01) and labile Al (r = 0.38, P < 0.05). Bioavailability of Ba can preferably model the Ba transfer in soil-bok choy system. The best reliable model was LogBa[shoot] = 0.591LogBa[soil-Pore water] + 1.749 (R 2  = 0.963, P < 0.001). This model without measuring soil physicochemical properties, making it easier and more convenient to use in practice. Yellow rose ( Rosa xanthina ) is a common ornamental shrub species widely cultivated in China. However, canker disease symptoms were discovered during our investigations in Beijing and Xinjiang, China. The fungal isolates were obtained from diseased barks and identified using combined methods of morphology and phylogeny based on a partial region of ITS, LSU, rpb2 , tef1 , and tub2 sequences. As a result, a new species of Seimatosporium named S. chinense was proposed and described herein. The new species is distinguished from its phylogenetic sister species, S. gracile and S. nonappendiculatum , by conidial characters. The present study improves the species concept in Seimatosporium and provides fundamental data for the yellow rose canker disease control in the future.

Natural volatile organic compounds (NVOCs) and airborne microorganisms are important elements in urban forest air that affect air quality and human health. In this study, the Zhuyu Bay urban forest in Yangzhou was selected as the research object, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to detect the composition of NVOCs in different forest stands. Terpenes, heterocyclic compounds, and esters accounted for the highest proportions. We then explored the effects of NVOCs on the physiological health of each forest stand and used Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genome enrichment analysis to identify beneficial secondary metabolites. Among the identified compounds, alpha-phellandrene 1, azulene, and other terpenoids were found to possess antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Heterocyclic compounds, such as 4-Pyridinecarboxylic acid and visnagin, showed significant effects in the treatment of diseases. In addition, we collected and analyzed culturable airborne microorganisms in different forest stands and found that the bamboo forest had the lowest number of culturable airborne microorganisms. To further explore the influence of urban microclimates on air microorganisms and NVOCs, a partial least squares path modelling (PLS-PM) analysis was conducted. Urban biodiversity faces threats from habitat loss, landscape fragmentation, and human disturbances. Ecological networks (ENs) can enhance habitat connectivity and bolster population resilience to disruptions. To safeguard the biodiversity of Nanjing's urban area, this study selected understory insectivorous birds as indicator species for biodiversity, employing a comprehensive approach integrating the maximum entropy (MaxEnt) model and the area threshold method to delineate ecological source areas. Key indicators directly linked to the species distribution were extracted based on the habitat suitability assessment results, and an ecological resistance surface was crafted using spatial principal component analysis. Subsequently, the circuit theory model was applied to pinpoint ecological corridors, pinch points, and barrier points. The findings unveiled the following: (1) The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), human activities (HA), and canopy height (CH) were critical indicators influencing biodiversity. The response curves of the NDVI and CH were positively correlated with the probability distribution of indicator species, while the response curve of the HA showed an overall negative correlation with the same distribution. (2) The spatial distribution characteristics of the ecological network revealed a 'one axis, two cores, intersecting' pattern. Ecological sources were supported by mountainous forests and riverside green spaces, symmetrically distributed on both sides of the Yangtze River. Ecological corridors were forming continuous tree belts along highways and riverways, predominantly concentrated on the eastern side of the Yangtze River. Ecological pinch points and barriers were primarily located at the intersections of fragmented green spaces and developed areas in the northeastern and southeastern regions of the study area. (3) This study finally identified 30 ecological source areas, 65 ecological corridors, 8 pinch points, and 8 barrier points. To explore the influence of storm runoff on bacterial metabolic activity and water quality in Jinpen Reservoir, three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy parallel factor analysis, high-throughput DNA sequencing technology, and Biolog technology were used to analyze variations in the components of dissolved organic matter, bacterial community composition, and microbial metabolic activity during three periods （before, during, and one month after runoff）. The results showed that after storm runoff into the reservoir, the water temperature decreased, and dissolved oxygen in the middle of the water column increased significantly. Finally, the aerobic and low-temperature state in the middle water and anaerobic and low-temperature state in the bottom water was formed. Simultaneously, the concentration of total nitrogen, total phosphorus, organic matter, and turbidity increased significantly. After one month of runoff, the concentration of pollutant decreased, however, was still higher than that before runoff. Further, during the runoff period, the proportion of Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes increased significantly and the sum of their relative abundance accounted for 63.6% of the bacterial community. The bacterial metabolic activity was also higher than that before. With global warming, the risk of human exposure to extreme climates increases, profoundly impacting sustainable development. Using rapidly developing China as an example, this study estimates the exposure of urban land to drought and flood based on historical and future climate and land data. The results show that the area of urban land exposed to drought in China generally decreases in the future. However, the area exposed to flood sharply increases in the mid- and long-term future, except for the near future. There is heterogeneity in the changes in urban land exposure under different levels of drought and flood. The changes in exposure areas under different future scenarios show spatial differences and an overall trend of spatial aggregation. Climate factors are the main drivers of changes in the area exposed to drought and flood. Objective: To explore the correlation between park view elements and their combinations on the heart rate (HR) and speed of walkers, joggers, and runners in different groups of people's profiles and walking types, provide suggestions for the planning and design of walking suitability of walking trails in parks, and guide people with different walking needs to scientifically choose walking trails in parks., Methods: Profile data and exercise data of users who recorded walking activities in Century Park are collected on Strava, and the park view images (PVIs) were taken and segmented semantically. Data are grouped according to gender, age, weight and exercise type, and the quantitative relationship between HR, speed and 17 park view elements is studied by Spearman correlation analysis., Results: (1) The influence of the same park view elements on the exercise physiological indicators of different genders is small; (2) Park view elements combination based on sky, grass-plant and tree can better stabilize the walking HR of the older adult; (3) Semi-enclosed trail dominated by tree can improve the walking HR and speed of people with larger body weight; (4) Natural routes dominated by sidewalk-path and supplemented by tree and sky elements are more suitable for walking, while the trails with larger sky area, no trees and wider trails are more suitable for running., Competing Interests: WW was employed by Shanghai Weilaichengshi Co., Ltd.
