Background and Aim: In the evolving pedagogical landscape, the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach has garnered attention for its student-centric model and clear educational outcomes. University in Shaanxi Province recognizes the need for an integrative basketball teaching model to harmonize with this paradigm shift. This study endeavors to design a basketball teaching model for Xi'an University students, underpinning the OBE concept. Materials and Methods: Employing a combination of interviews, questionnaires, and specialized software packages, data were collected from a population comprising 45 teachers and 5,000 first-year students, with a selected sample of 370 students and 45 teachers. The research process encompassed a thorough examination of the current teaching model, followed by the utilization of the Delphi technique and focus groups to conceptualize the OBE framework for basketball teaching. Results: Analysis revealed the need for a comprehensive basketball teaching model in higher education. The proposed OBE model integrates 4 primary elements (Basketball Theory, Basketball Skills, and Physical, and Social Adaptability), further divided into 12 secondary and 34 tertiary elements. Each segment is tailored to specific outcome objectives, emphasizing cognitive understanding, skill mastery, physical fitness, and social adaptation. Conclusion: The proposed OBE basketball teaching model offers a holistic approach to basketball education, integrating both sport-specific and life-oriented skills. By aligning with China's national development goals and the principles of education, this model stands poised to revolutionize basketball education in Xi'an, setting a benchmark for other provinces.

Summary: A chemotherapy‐based mobilization regimen in patients who mobilize poorly, based on etoposide, cytarabine and pegfilgrastim (EAP), has recently been introduced. The aim of this prospective study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of the EAP regimen in patients with poorly mobilizing multiple myeloma (MM) or lymphoma. This single‐arm clinical trial was performed at eight public hospitals in China and was registered as a clinical trial (NCT05510089). The inclusion criteria were; (1) diagnosis of MM or lymphoma, (2) defined as a 'poor mobilizer' and (3) aged 18–75 years. The EAP regimen consisted of etoposide 75 mg/m2/day on days 1–2, cytarabine 300 mg/m2 every 12 h on days 1–2 and pegfilgrastim 6 mg on day 6. The primary endpoint of the study was the ratio of patients achieving adequate mobilization (≥2.0 × 106 CD34+ cells/kg). From 1 September 2022 to 15 August 2023, a total of 58 patients were enrolled, 53 (91.4%) achieved adequate mobilization, while 41 (70.7%) achieved optimal mobilization with a median number of cumulative collected CD34+ cells was 9.2 (range 2.1–92.7) × 106/kg and the median number of apheresis per patient of 1.2. The median time from administration of the EAP regimen to the first apheresis was 12 days. Approximately 8.6% of patients required plerixa for rescue, which was successful. Twelve (20.7%) of the 58 patients suffered grade 2–3 infections, while 25 (43.1%) required platelet transfusions. The duration of neutrophil and platelet engraftment was 11 days. Black carbon (BC) plays an important role in air quality, public health, and climate, but its long-term variations in emissions and health effects have been insufficiently understood for China. Here, we present the spatiotemporal evolution of BC emissions and the associated premature mortality in China during 2000–2020 based on an integrated framework combining satellite observations from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI), an extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) algorithm, a "top-down" inversion approach, and an exposure–response model. We found that the "bottom-up" approach most likely underestimated BC emissions, particularly in less developed western and remote areas. Pollution controls were estimated to reduce the annual BC emissions by 26 % during 2010–2020, reversing the 8 % growth during 2000–2010. BC emissions in the main coal-producing provinces declined by 2010 but rebounded afterwards. By contrast, provinces with higher economic and urbanization levels experienced emission growth (0.05–0.10 Mg km -2 yr -1) by 2010 and declined greatly (0.07–0.23 Mg km -2 yr -1) during 2010–2020. The national annual BC-associated premature mortality ranged between 733 910 (95 % confidence interval: 676 790–800 250) and 937 980 cases (864 510–1 023 400) for different years. The changing BC emissions contributed to an increase of 78 590 cases (72 520–85 600) during 2000–2005 and a decrease of 133 360 cases (123 150–145 180) during 2010–2015. Background: Individuals may be more likely to engage in NSSI due to negative cognitive bias, while the use of negative emotional regulation mechanisms may further contribute to NSSI. Currently, there is a dearth of studies regarding the correlation among the three variables. Method: The study employed convenience sampling to collect data via online platforms from a total of 572 college students in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China, over the period of January 2024 to February 2024. The questionnaires comprise the Non-Adaptive Cognitive Emotion Srategy Regulation Subscale, the Negative Cognitive Processing Bias Questionnaire, and the NSSI Questionnaire. Outcome: Negative cognitive bias significantly and directly influences NSSI, as indicated by a beta coefficient of 0.3788 and a confidence interval of [0.2878, 0.4698]. The existence of negative cognitive bias significantly enhances the impact of non-adaptive cognitive emotion control approaches (β = 0.5613, CI [0.4808, 0.6418]). Non-adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies showed a significant effect on NSSI, as indicated by a beta coefficient of 0.2033 and a confidence interval of [0.0942, 0.3125]. The non-adaptive cognitive emotion control strategy serves as an intermediary between negative cognitive bias and NSSI, explaining 30.12% of the overall impact. In conclusion: The results demonstrate that non-adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies play a partially moderating role in the relationship between negative cognitive bias and NSSI among nursing students. We emphasize the importance of non-adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies, negative cognitive biases, and NSSI among nursing students. In order to reduce the occurrence of NSSI, it is important for schools, families, and teachers to work together closely and implement a well-organized and efficient intervention to protect the mental well-being of nursing students. Background: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a serious gastrointestinal disease, primarily affects preterm newborns and occurs after 7 days of life (late-onset NEC, LO-NEC). Unfortunately, over the past several decades, not much progress has been made in its treatment or prevention. This study aimed to analyze the risk factors for LO-NEC, and the impact of LO-NEC on short-term outcomes in very preterm infants (VPIs) with a focus on nutrition and different onset times. Method: Clinical data of VPIs were retrospectively collected from 28 hospitals in seven different regions of China from September 2019 to December 2020. A total of 2509 enrolled VPIs were divided into 2 groups: the LO-NEC group and non-LO-NEC group. The LO-NEC group was divided into 2 subgroups based on the onset time: LO-NEC occurring between 8 ~ 14d group and LO-NEC occurring after 14d group. Clinical characteristics, nutritional status, and the short-term clinical outcomes were analyzed and compared among these groups. Results: Compared with the non-LO-NEC group, the LO-NEC group had a higher proportion of anemia, blood transfusion, and invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) treatments before NEC; the LO-NEC group infants had a longer fasting time, required longer duration to achieve the target total caloric intake (110 kcal/kg) and regain birthweight, and showed slower weight growth velocity; the cumulative dose of the medium-chain and long-chain triglyceride (MCT/LCT) emulsion intake in the first week after birth was higher and breastfeeding rate was lower. Additionally, similar results including a higher proportion of IMV, lower breastfeeding rate, more MCT/LCT emulsion intake, slower growth velocity were also found in the LO-NEC group occurring between 8 ~ 14d when compared to the LO-NEC group occurring after 14 d (all (P < 0.05). After adjustment for the confounding factors, high proportion of breastfeeding were identified as protective factors and long fasting time before NEC were identified as risk factors for LO-NEC; early feeding were identified as protective factors and low gestational age, grade III ~ IV neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS), high accumulation of the MCT/LCT emulsion in the first week were identified as risk factors for LO-NEC occurring between 8 ~ 14d. Logistic regression analysis showed that LO-NEC was a risk factor for late-onset sepsis, parenteral nutrition-associated cholestasis, metabolic bone disease of prematurity, and extrauterine growth retardation. Conclusion: Actively preventing premature birth, standardizing the treatment of grade III ~ IV NRDS, and optimizing enteral and parenteral nutrition strategies may help reduce the risk of LO-NEC, especially those occurring between 8 ~ 14d, which may further ameliorate the short-term clinical outcome of VPIs. Since the existence of self-taught higher education examination, its fast development has contributed a lot to national higher education reform and economic development. This paper, based on analyzing the talent-training mode of China self-taught higher education, proposes countermeasures and suggestions for problems in the mode at present.

The internationalization of higher education plays an important role in education, but from the perspective of the whole society, there is a higher level of significance. Combining with foreign experience, this paper holds that internationalization of higher education in China should be established to promote international education by establishing administrative network, shaping the international reputation of higher education, merging policy with communication activities simultaneously to reverse the brain drain situation and to encourage the internationalization of higher education institutions.

This study studies whether the Social Insurance Law implemented in 2011 affects the stock price crash risk. Using the data of Chinese listed companies from 2006 to 2018, this study uses the difference-in-difference method to show that the Social Insurance Law significantly reduces stock price crash risk, and when the tax department collects social insurance premiums, this inhibitory effect still exists, which depends on its taxation efforts. Mechanism analysis find that Social Insurance Law reduces agency costs and improves the transparency of enterprises, indicating that the behavior of enterprises to hide and hoard bad news is reduced. Finally, these effects are more pronounced for enterprises with poor corporate governance, enterprises in regions with poor marketization, and enterprises with lower media attention. Background: To analyze the real-world growth pattern of very premature infants (VPI) with small for gestational age (SGA) after birth by using the ΔZ value of weight at discharge. Methods: The clinical data were collected from 28 hospitals in China from September 2019 to December 2020. They were divided into the EUGR(Extrauterine Growth Restriction) and the non-EUGR group according to the criterion of ΔZ value of weight at discharge < –1.28. Results: This study included 133 eligible VPI with SGA. Following the criterion of ΔZ value, the incidence of EUGR was 36.84% (49/133). The birth weight, the 5-min Apgar score, and the proportion of male infants in the EUGR group were lower (P < 0.05). The average invasive ventilation time, cumulative duration of the administration of antibiotics, blood transfusion time, blood transfusion ratio, and total days of hospitalization were significantly higher in the EUGR group (P < 0.05). In the EUGR group, several factors exhibited higher values (P < 0.05), including the initiation of enteral feeding, the volume of milk supplemented with human milk fortifier (HMF), the duration to achieve complete fortification, the cumulative duration of fasting, the duration to achieve full enteral feeding, the length of parenteral nutrition (PN), the number of days required to attain the desired total calorie intake and oral calorie intake, as well as the age at which birth weight was regained. The average weight growth velocity (GV) was significantly lower in the EUGR group (P < 0.001). The incidences of patent ductus arteriosus with hemodynamic changes (hsPDA), neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) stage≥ 2, late-onset sepsis (LOS), and feeding intolerance (FI) in the EUGR group were higher (P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that birth weight, male, and GV were the protective factors, while a long time to achieve full-dose fortification, slow recovery of birth weight, and NEC stage ≥2 were the independent risk factors. Conclusion: SGA in VPI can reflect the occurrence of EUGR more accurately by using the ΔZ value of weight at discharge. Enhancing enteral nutrition support, achieving prompt and complete fortification of breast milk, promoting greater GV, reducing the duration of birth weight recovery, and minimizing the risk of NEC can contribute to a decreased occurrence of EUGR. Background: Although cellular and animal studies have reported that resolvin D1 (RvD1) and resolvin D2 (RvD2) are mechanisms involved in the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), the impact of RvD1 and RvD2 on the risk of T2DM at a population level remains unclear. Methods: We included 2755 non-diabetic adults from a community-based cohort in China and followed them for seven years. Cox proportional hazards model was used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association of RvD1 and RvD2 with T2DM probability. Time-dependent receiver operator characteristics (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the predictive performance of RvD1 and RvD2 for the risk of T2DM based on the Chinese CDC T2DM prediction model (CDRS). Results: A total of 172 incident T2DM cases were identified. Multivariate-adjusted HRs (95% CI) for T2DM across quartiles of RvD1 levels (Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4) were 1.00, 1.64 (1.03-2.63), 1.80 (1.13-2.86) and 1.61 (1.01-2.57), respectively. Additionally, body mass index (BMI) showed a significant effect modification in the association of RvD1 with incident T2DM (Pinteraction = 0.026). After multivariate adjustment, the HR (95% CI) for T2DM in the fourth compared with the first quartile of RvD2 was 1.94 (95% CI: 1.24-3.03). Time-dependent ROC analysis showed that the area under time-dependent ROC curves of the "CDRS +RvD1+RvD2" model for the 3-, 5- and 7-year risk of T2DM were 0.842, 0.835 and 0.828, respectively. The Rouse formula and its variants have been widely used to describe the vertical distribution of the sediment concentration in sediment-laden flows in equilibrium. Han's formula extends the Rouse formula to non-equilibrium regimes, where the diffusive flux is still assumed to be Fickian. The turbulent flow and suspension regimes downstream of a mega-reservoir, e.g., the Three Gorges Reservoir, usually exhibit fractal and unsaturated properties, respectively. To characterize the non-Fickian dynamics of suspended sediment and the non-equilibrium regime in natural dammed rivers, this study proposes a new formula for the concentration profile of unsaturated sediment based on the Hausdorff fractal derivative advection–dispersion equation. In addition, we find that the order of the Hausdorff fractal derivative is related to the sizes of the sediment and the degrees of non-equilibrium. Compared to Rouse and Han's formulae, the new formula performs better in describing the sediment concentration profiles in the Jingjiang Reach, approximately 100 km below the Three Gorges Dam. The sensible use of forest resources and the sound management of forests have become increasingly important throughout the years. In keeping with the trend, a composite forestry operation model has emerged. Traditional Chinese culture and forest management are particularly intertwined in China. Thus, use of the forest–medicine compound management model is recommended. The majority of research on the management of forest–medicine compounds has focused on how to grow more effective medicinal plants, ignoring the effects of the chemicals used on the soil environment, particularly the soil micro-environment. A forest–medicine system was established in South China to investigate the impacts of planting Aspidistra elatior on the variety of rhizospheric microorganisms and their ability to use carbon sources. In the plots with or without A. elatior, three dominant plants (Castanopsis hystrix, Psychotria rubra, and Ficus hirta) grew soil rhizosphere microbes, which were analyzed using Biolog EcoPlates. The study found that planting medicinal plants in the understory improved the soil's nutritional content, increased the inter-root microbial communities of other medicinal plants, and enhanced the microbes' ability to use soil carbon sources. The forest–medicine complex model, which rationalizes the use of forest clearings and generates economic and ecological benefits, can significantly increase the quantity of dominant microorganisms and enhance the enrichment of other species, resulting in a positive impact on the soil environment. Planting bamboo and trees is of great importance in giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) habitat restoration. In practice, however, simply planting bamboo and trees cannot effectively and rapidly restore lost, degraded, and fragmented habitats. Based on present restoration work in the Qinling Mountains, China, we argue that: (1) Planting should be done on open and suitable forest lands, but the area that could be afforested is relatively small. (2) Forests that have regrown naturally on cut‐over lands are mostly middle‐aged and early secondary stands, which need to be managed, not replanted. (3) Plantations of non‐native larch (Larix spp.) urgently need to be replaced and replanted with native trees and bamboos, but new policies are needed that allow these plantations to be thinned or cut. (4) Bamboo forests in the mid‐high mountain zones need to be assessed to determine if they are disclimaxes of degraded forests. Pilot studies are needed to determine the best need and practices to rehabilitate and restore them. We conclude that the restoration of panda habitat cannot be accomplished simply through tree and bamboo plantings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: To develop and validate a risk prediction model for Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes with the recurrence of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) based on a systematic review and meta‐analysis. Methods: A prospective analysis was performed with 1333 participants and followed up for 60 months. Three models were analysed using a derived cohort. The risk factors were screened using meta‐analysis and logistic regression, and the missing variables were interpolated by multiple imputation. The internal validation was performed using the bootstrap procedure, and the validation cohort was applied to the external validation. The performance of the model was evaluated in the area under the discrimination Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (ROC). Calibration and discrimination methods were used for the validation cohort. The variables were selected according to their clinical and statistical importance to construct the nomograms. Results: Three models were developed and validated. Model 1 included seven social and clinical indicators like sex, diabetes mellitus duration, previous DFU, location of ulcer, smoking, history of amputation, and foot deformity. Model 2 included four more indicators besides those in Model 1, which were statin agents used, antiplatelet agents used, systolic blood pressure, and body mass index. Model 3 added further laboratory indicators to Model 2, such as LDL‐C, HbA1C, fibrinogen, and blood urea nitrogen. In the derivation cohort, 20.1% (206/1027) participants with DFU recurred as compared to the validation cohort, which was 38.2% (117/306). The areas under the curve in the derivation cohort for Models 1–3 were 0.781 (0.744–0.817), 0.843 (0.813–0.873), and 0.899 (0.876–0.922), respectively. The Youden indexes for Models 1–3 were 0.430, 0.559, and 0.653, respectively. Model 3 showed the highest sensitivity and specificity. All models performed well for both discrimination and calibration. Conclusions: Models 1–2 were non‐invasive, which indicate their role in general screening for patients at a high risk of recurrence of DFU. However, Model 3 offers a more specific screening due to its best performance in predicting the risk of DFU recurrence amongst the three models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: We aimed to investigate the prevalence of covert hepatic encephalopathy (CHE) in cirrhotic patients in China and its risk factors. Methods: A multicenter prospective observational study was conducted from January 2021 to March 2022 at 16 medical centers across China to investigate the risk factors of CHE and establish a prediction model for CHE episodes. Results: A total of 528 patients were enrolled in the study. Based on both the psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score and Stroop test results, the prevalence of CHE was 50.4% (266/528), and the consistency between these two tests was 68.9%. Multivariate analysis showed that age (odds ratio [OR] 1.043, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.022–1.063, P < 0.001), duration of education (OR 0.891, 95% CI 0.832–0.954, P = 0.001), comorbidities of cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, cerebral apoplexy or diabetes mellitus (OR 2.072, 95% CI 1.370–3.133, P < 0.001), Child–Pugh score (OR 1.142, 95% CI 1.029–1.465, P = 0.025), and blood urea nitrogen concentration (OR 1.126, 95% CI 1.038–1.221, P = 0.004) were associated with CHE episodes. According to the Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire, CHE patients had lower scores for abdominal symptoms and systemic symptoms (P < 0.001), indicating a poor health‐related quality of life. Based on a stepwise Cox regression hazard model, we established a nomogram for determining the probabilities of CHE episodes, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.733 (95% CI 0.679–0.788) and 0.713 (95% CI 0.628–0.797) in the training and validation cohorts. Conclusions: CHE is a common complication of cirrhosis in China. Large‐scale studies with long‐term follow‐up are needed to determine the natural history of Chinese CHE patients. During the sustainable development of land surface system, different territories undertake different functions. The understanding and representation of territorial differentiation of the land surface system is the main purpose of comprehensive function regionalization research. Focusing on the theoretical gap of comprehensive geographical regionalization, that is, the spatial decoupling of the physical environment and human activities, the non-nested relationship of spatial scale transformation, and the persistence and uncertainty of the dynamic evolution of territorial functions, this research proposed the identification principles and division methods of comprehensive functional regions. Based on the major function zoning in China, the systematic classification method with function orientation was employed to delineate the comprehensive functions of each territory, such as ecological security, food production and urban development. Then, the geographical regionalization method, which follows the principles of interconnection of different regionalization objectives at different levels and a combination of top-down decomposition and bottom-up aggregation, was used to determine the geographic boundaries. To meet the objective requirements of flexible and dynamic boundaries, two sets of land regionalization schemes for 2035 and 2050 were finally formed, each of which had three spatial levels. The first-level regionalization identified four major regions, which comprehensively represented the relatively stable state of China's land development and protection pattern under the leading role of physical environment differentiation. The second-level regionalization identified 12 regions, which comprehensively represented the spatial layout of a new development pattern of multi- and inter-provinces coordinating the innovation chain, industrial chain and supply chain based on a relatively independent and complete natural carrier. The third-level regionalization identified 80 sub-regions, which comprehensively represented the functional differentiation patterns of sub-provinces during sustainable development. Compared with the current geographical differentiation research, the study of territorial function differentiation has academic values for the development of integrated geography in exploring the territorial system of the human-environment relationship, and it can provide a scientific basis for determining the territorial model of sustainable development and optimizing the pattern of spatial development and protection in China. Background: Several cellular and animal studies have suggested that lipoxin A4 (LXA4) has a protective effect on type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) development. However, little is known about whether LXA4 influences T2DM development at the population level. Methods: We included 2755 non-diabetic participants from a cohort study in China who were followed for about seven years. Cox proportional hazards modelwas used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the association between LXA4 and incident T2DM. Mediation models were used to examine how serum lipids as mediators impact the association between LXA4 and T2DM. Results: In total, 172 newly diagnosed T2DM cases were identified. Multivariateadjusted HR for T2DM in the fourth compared with the first quartile of LXA4 was 0.62 (95% CI: 0.40-0.96). When used the optimal cutoff value determined by the receiver operating characteristic curve, the results showed participants with LXA4 > 2.84 ng/mL had a decreased T2DM risk compared to those with LXA4 ≤ 2.84 ng/mL (HR: 0.63, 95% CI: 0.45-0.89). The effect of LXA4 on incident T2DM was significantly modified by gender (P-interaction = 0.024) and family history of diabetes (P-interaction = 0.025). Additionally, the association between LXA4 and incident T2DM was partially suppressed by the TyG and TG/HDL-c ratio, with a suppression proportion of 22.2% and 16.0%, respectively. Conclusions: Higher LXA4 levels are significantly associated with a lower risk of T2DM development. It is crucial to understand the characteristics of wind resources and optimize wind resources in the area that is being considered for offshore wind farm development. Based on the improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) and the back propagation neural network (BPNN), the IPSO-BP hybrid intelligent algorithm model was established. The assessment of wind resource characteristics in the eastern waters of China, including average wind speed, extreme wind speed, wind power density, effective wind energy hours and wind direction distribution were all calculated. Additionally, the wind speed throughout the different years in Luchao Port, a famous seaport in China, was predicted. The results revealed that the wind power density is approximately 300 W/m2 all year round and that the effective wind energy hours take up about 92% per hour. It was also identified that the wind direction distribution is stable in Luchao Port, implying that there are better wind energy resource reserves in this region. The IPSO-BP model has a strong tracking performance for wind speed changes, and can accurately predict the wind speed change in a short period. In addition, the prediction error of the IPSO-BP model is smaller when the time of training data is closer to the target one, and it can be controlled within a 5% range. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although much has been written on hedging in traditional security, few studies have focused on hedging in the non-traditional security (NTS) domains. This essay examines NTS hedging through the case of Vietnam's disaster response cooperation with the USA and with China. "Hedging" is insurance-seeking behaviour, characterised by avoidance of irrevocable commitment, adoption of impartial and inclusive diversification, and the pursuit of prudent contradictions—all aimed at offsetting risks and cultivating a fallback position. We argue that it is Vietnam's elite-defined strategic considerations and functional needs amid uncertainty that both drive and constrain its hedging approach to disaster management cooperation with the competing powers—China and the USA. While not fully aligning with either power, Vietnam has sought closer cooperation with both, with different objectives in mind: engaging China to maintain a good relationship, while engaging the USA to enhance its capabilities. The net result is cooperation that is symbolic in posture and selective in practice, which serves the substantive purposes of mitigating risks while acquiring concrete gains. Background: Protozoans of Entamoeba spp. are one of the most common enteric parasites that infect humans and diverse animals including deer. Purpose: However, data regarding the prevalence and species/genotypes of Entamoeba spp. in deer in China is scarce. This study investigated the prevalence and species distribution of Entamoeba spp. in sika deer (Cervus nippon) in Anhui Province. Methods: In our survey, 336 fecal samples were collected from five sika deer farms in different regions of Anhui Province. All samples were examined for the presence of Entamoeba spp. by PCR and phylogenetic analysis of the conserved 18S rRNA gene. Results: 106/336 (31.5%) fecal samples were positive for Entamoeba spp. A statistically significant difference in the prevalence of Entamoeba spp. infection was observed between sampling farms (p < 0.001), and the prevalence of Entamoeba spp. in male and female sika deer showed no significant difference (p > 0.05). Sequence and phylogenetic analysis revealed the single species, E. bovis, was identified in this study. Conclusion: This is the first report about the identification of E. bovis in farm-raised sika deer in China, and these results expand our understanding of host range and species distribution of Entamoeba spp. in ruminants. The incidence of extrauterine growth retardation (EUGR) varies considerably in different countries due to the distinct definitions and inclusion criteria of individual studies. Most studies included small for gestational age (SGA) very preterm infants (VPIs), resulting in a higher incidence of EUGR. Experts have suggested the accurate definition of "EUGR" in SGA infants is not "true EUGR". The postnatal growth curve of multiple premature births also differs from that of singletons. As far as we know, there is no study about relationship between singleton-non-SGA preterm infants and EUGR. To analyze the factors influencing EUGR among VPIs who were singleton-non-SGA in China. A prospective-multicenter study was conducted in 28 hospitals distributed through China from September 2019 to December 2020. The clinical data on singleton-non-SGA among VPIs were divided into EUGR group (n = 692) and non-EUGR group (n = 912). Compared to non-EUGR group, the mean gestational age (GA), mean birth weight (BW) and percentage of BW in Fenton curve in EUGR group were lower (P < 0.001 for all). The incidence of EUGR among distinct GA groups (classifications of GA < 28weeks, 28–28+6 weeks, 29–29+6 weeks, 30–30+6 weeks and 31–31+6 weeks) and distinct BW groups (classifications of BW<1000 g, 1000–1249 g, 1250–1499 g, 1500–1999g and 2000–2500 g) were statistically significant (P = 0.004 and P <.001). Logistic regression analysis indicated that later addition of human milk fortifier (HMF), later attainment of HMF sufficient fortification, later return to BW, more accumulative days of fasting, longer duration of parenteral nutrition, total duration of oxygen support and moderate/severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) were risk factors for the development of EUGR in singleton-non-SGA VPIs (P < 0.001, P = 0.002, P < 0.001, P = 0.002, P = 0.017, P = 0.003 and P = 0.002, respectively). The use of full-course antenatal steroids, greater BW as a percentile of the Fenton curve, breastfeeding initiation and faster average velocity of weight growth effectively protected against EUGR (P = 0.008, P < 0.001, P < 0.001 and P < 0.001, respectively). The overall incidence of EUGR was 43.1% among singleton-non-SGA VPIs in China. Raising the full-course antenatal steroids usage, reducing the incidence of moderate and severe BPD, attaching importance to the management of enteral nutrition in VPIs and increasing the weight growth velocity can reduce the incidence of EUGR. Tetratrichomonasgallinarum and Trichomonas gallinae can colonize the alimentary tract of domestic birds. However, little information is available on the epidemiology of the two trichomonad species in domestic free-range poultry in China. In this study, the occurrence and genetic characteristic of T. gallinarum and T. gallinae among free-range chickens, ducks, and geese in Anhui Province, China, were investigated. The 1910 fecal samples collected from 18 free-range poultry farms throughout Anhui Province were examined for the presence of T. gallinarum and T. gallinae by PCR and sequence analysis of the small subunit (SSU) rRNA gene of T. gallinarum and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 sequence of T. gallinae. The overall occurrence of T. gallinarum in poultry was 1.2% (22/1910), with infection rates of 2.1% (17/829) in chickens, 0.2% (1/487) in ducks, and 0.7% (4/594) in geese. The constructed phylogeny tree using the concatenated ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region and SSU rRNA indicated the T. gallinarum isolates detected in this study were closely related to previously defined genogroups A, D, and E, respectively. Nine (0.5%) fecal samples were positive for T. gallinae, with infection rates of 0.8% (7/829) in chickens, 0.4% (2/487) in ducks, and 0% (0/594) in geese. Sequence and phylogenetic analysis showed that four T. gallinae ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 sequences obtained from chicken feces and one duck fecal sample belonged to genotype ITS-OBT-Tg-1. This paper holds that the media play the "should be" roles in different periods, such as network public opinion monitoring and early warning, public opinion information processing and interpretation, consensus builder highlighting the mainstream, and introspection of public opinion events, and there is a media role cycle in the secondary public opinion period. There are different characteristics of BC in developing countries and developed countries. We intended to study the factors which influence the survival and prognosis of BC between southern China and the United States. (a) To study the two groups BC patients in southern China from 2001 to 2016 and SEER database from 1975 to 2016. (b) To register, collect and analyze the clinicopathological features and treatment information. Our study found that there are significant differences in tumor size, positive lymph node status and KI-67 between southern China and SEER cohort (P < 0.000). The positive lymph node status may be one of the causes of difference of morbidity and mortality of BC patients in China. Evapotranspiration (ET) plays an essential role in agricultural water resource management. Understanding regional agricultural water consumption characteristics can be improved by predicting ET using remote sensing. However, due to the lack of high-resolution images on clear-sky days or the limitation of ET reconstruction on cloudy-sky days, it remains challenging to continuously derive ET at the field scale. In this study, the Landsat and MODIS data were initially fused to obtain the Landsat-like vegetation index and land surface temperature on clear-sky days. Then the two-source energy balance (TSEB) model was applied to calculate the daily ET during the clear-sky. A canopy resistance-based gap-filling method was involved in reconstructing regional ET on cloudy days while considering different environmental factors. The estimations were validated by automatic weather system data (AWS) and eddy covariance (EC) measurements in Guantao County. The results demonstrated that the proposed scheme performed well in estimating cropland ET, with an RMSE of 0.86 mm·d−1 and an R2 of 0.65, and the NSE and PBias were 0.61 and -0.29%, respectively. The crop water consumption analysis revealed that the daily ET of winter wheat peaked during the maturation stage. Nevertheless, summer maize water consumption peaked in the middle of the growing season in this area. The temperature during the early development stage and the soil moisture in the mid and late growth stages had the greatest impact on the ET of winter wheat. During the entire growing period, soil moisture had the largest effect on the ET of summer maize. The findings showed that the TSEB model can be effectively applied to field-scale water consumption monitoring in North China through MODIS and Landsat data fusion and ET temporal reconstruction considering environmental factors. Pure thalamic infarct is a rare lacunar stroke type, with little known about long-term outcomes. This 8-year, single-center, retrospective study evaluated the clinical background, etiology, Trial of ORG 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment (TOAST) classification, and 8-year follow-up results in 27 patients with pure thalamic infarcts identified by MR diffusion-weighted imaging in Dalian, China. All patients presented chief complaints of limb weakness or sensory disturbances. Hypertension (24/27, 88.9%), diabetes (12/27, 44.4%), atrial fibrillation (1/27, 3.7%), hyperlipidemia (10/27, 37%), hyperhomocysteinemia (6/27, 22.2%), smoking history (10/27, 37%; 9/15, 60% for men; 1/12, 8.3% for women), and excessive alcohol consumption history (7/27, 25.9%; 7/15, 46.7% for men; 0 for women) were observed in our patient population. Based on TOAST classification, 1 patient had large artery atherosclerosis (7.14%), 23 had small vessel occlusion (SVO; 85.2%), and 3 patients were unidentified due to lack of cerebral angiography. The thalamic blood supply classification were as follows: 23 (85.2%), inferolateral territory; 1 (3.7%), tuberothalamic territory; 2 (7.4%), combination of tuberothalamic and paramedian arteries; 1 (3.7%), combination of inferolateral and paramedian arteries; 0, posterior choroidal arteries. During the 8-year follow-up, 3 patients died of colon cancer, multi-organ failure, and kidney failure, respectively; 7 presented with a recurrent stroke; while 10 recovered well with their risk factors under control. In conclusion, our cohort of pure thalamic infarcts were mainly due to SVO (TOAST), with hypertension as the main risk factor, and the inferolateral artery as the most implicated arterial territory. Less severe outcome or stroke recurrence are identified in long-term follow-up of pure thalamic infarcts. Other comorbidities would be cause of death in aged patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heavy metal pollution of a mining-impacted river—the Wenyu River—and a short section of the river it joins, the Luo River, were investigated after heavy rainfall following a dry season in March 2015 and during a normal flow season in May 2015. Water samples were collected during these two periods, and sediment samples were obtained in May as the rain washed out the sediments in March. The results showed the following: (1) The Wenyu River was severely polluted by acid mine drainage from an open-pit molybdenum (Mo) mine, and the major pollutants in the water according to Chinese national standard values were acid (pH), sulfate, Cu, Zn, Mn, Ni, and Cd. The major pollutants in the sediment were Cu, Zn, and Cd, as indicated by the geoaccumulation index and potential ecological risk index. (2) The major pollutants in the water were naturally attenuated along the river and met the national standard values after joining the Luo River, except Mn in both water samples and Cd in the samples after rain in March. The major pollutants in the sediments showed an increasing tendency along the Wenyu River and Luo River. (3) The heavy rainfall following the prolonged dry season increased acid and heavy metal contamination in the river, which might be attributed to the dissolution of efflorescent salts and the weathering and erosion of mining residues. Thus, the first heavy rain following a dry season should receive particular attention from mining enterprises and regulators. Several mitigation options and recommendations are also discussed. On 18 January 2016, the Zhangjiazhuang high-speed railway tunnel in Ledu, Qinghai Province, China, underwent serious deformation and structural damage. A crack formed at the top of the tunnel and the concrete on the crown peeled off. As a result, the tunnel could not be operated for three months. In order to determine the types and spatial distribution of the landslides in the region and the surface deformation characteristics associated with the tunnel deformation, we used field geological and geomorphological surveys, unmanned aerial vehicle image interpretation and differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (D-InSAR) surface deformation monitoring. Nine ancient and old landslides were identified and analysed in the study area. Surface deformation monitoring and investigation of buildings in several villages on the slope front showed that the tunnel deformation was not related to deep-seated gravitational slope deformation. However, surface deformation monitoring revealed an active NEE-SWW fault in the area intersecting the tunnel at the location of the tunnel rupture. This constitutes a plausible mechanism for the deformation of the tunnel. Our study highlights the need for detailed engineering geomorphological investigations to better predict the occurrence of tunnel deformation events in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Commercial cultivars of kiwifruit (Actinidia spp.) can have green-fleshed or yellow-fleshed fruit depending on their chlorophyll degradation ability. In recent years, an increasing number of yellow-fleshed cultivars have been bred in China. However, the mechanisms underlying the flesh colouration of these new cultivars remain elusive. In this study, the pigment contents of the yellow-fleshed cultivar 'Jinshi NO.1' were determined during fruit development, and RNA sequencing was conducted to screen for differentially expressed genes and identify potential candidates for pigment metabolism. The chlorophyll content continuously decreased from 0 days after full bloom (DAFB) (T1) to 189 DAFB (T4), resulting in a more than 30-fold change, while the contents of anthocyanins and carotenoids showed sharp decreases from T1 to 44 DAFB (T2) and remained stable thereafter. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) indicated that the chlorophyll contents were highly correlated with chlorophyll-degradation-related genes, especially three chlorophyll a/b-binding protein (CAB) genes and one stay-green gene (AcSGR1), but no carotenoid-related genes. Furthermore, these genes were found to be highly correlated with 15 transcription factors and 11 hub genes. These results indicate the important role of chlorophyll degradation in the colouration of 'Jinshi NO.1' and provide candidates for further functional characterisation and transcriptional regulation. The severity and harmfulness of a rockburst event are significantly correlated with the scale of rock mass ejection, especially when the rock mass are not supported. This paper presents a microseismicity-based method for the early estimation of rockburst occurrence and its potential scale, which is graded according to the volume of the rockburst pit (Rv). The establishment of the estimation method involves a rockburst database, a grading scheme of the rockburst scale, selection and clustering analysis of rockburst samples, training of an artificial neural network (ANN) model, and dynamic updating. Firstly, a rockburst database is established from cases that were collected from the tunnels at depths of 1900–2525 m in the Jinping II hydropower station, located in southwest China. A grading scheme regarding the rockburst scale is preliminarily proposed on the basis of statistical analysis. Next, seventy-four rockburst cases, collected in tunnels with microseismic (MS) monitoring from October 2010 to March 2011, are selected as typical rockburst samples by using cluster analysis, and the relationships between the microseismicity and rockburst scale are deeply revealed. Then, three MS parameters, namely, the cumulative number of events, the cumulative energy, and the cumulative apparent volume, are determined and used together as input indicators for the identification of the rockburst scale. The estimation model is trained and cross-validated by the ANN optimized through genetic algorithm (GA). Finally, the performance of this microseismicity-based method has been validated by thirty-one cases that occurred in the tunnels with a cumulative length of 1.85 km, excavated from April 2011 to November 2011. The result indicates that approximately 83.9% of the rockburst cases could be reliably estimated. This study provides a new and feasible method for rockburst scale estimation, which can be used separately or applied as a complementary approach to current prediction methods for risk assessment and management of rockbursts in drill-and-blast tunneling. The present study investigated the ecotoxicity of raw mining effluent from the largest molybdenum (Mo) open-pit mine in the Qinling mountains, China, and the treated effluent with neutralization and coagulation/adsorption processes, using zebrafish (Danio rerio). The results showed the following: (1) the mining effluent is acid mine drainage (AMD) and is highly toxic to zebrafish with a 96-h median lethal concentration (LC50) of 3.80% (volume percentage) of the raw effluent; (2) sublethal concentrations of the raw effluent (1/50, 1/10, and 1/2 96-h LC50) induced oxidative stress and osmoregulatory impairment, as reflected by the alterations in activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase and contents of malondialdehyde, and inhibition of Na+, K+-ATPase activity in gills and muscle after 28 days of sub-chronic exposure when compared with the unexposed group; and (3) the treatment of the raw effluent with neutralizer (NaOH) and adsorbent activated carbon reduced the acute lethal effect of raw effluent. The used endpoints including acute lethal and biochemical parameters related to oxidative stress and osmoregulatory impairment in zebrafish are cost-effective for toxicity assessment of AMD like the studied Mo mining effluent. Mining effluent management strategies extended by these results, i.e., the restriction of discharging raw and diluted effluent to adjacent waterways and the introduction of bio-monitoring system across all mining drainages in this area, were also proposed and discussed. Background: Intussusception is the most common abdominal emergency in children. The first line treatment of uncomplicated pediatric intussusception is enema reduction. Until now, there have been no multi-center studies comparing the effectiveness and safety of UGHR and FGAR in the treatment of pediatric intussusception. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness and safety of the two most commonly used enema methods of pediatric intussusception: ultrasound-guided hydrostatic reduction (UGHR) and fluoroscopy-guided air reduction (FGAR). Methods: From November 1, 2017 to October 31, 2018, we conducted a multi-center, prospective, cohort study. Children diagnosed with intussusception in four large Children's Medical Centers in China were divided into UGHR and FGAR groups. Stratified analysis and subgroup analysis were used for further comparison. The success and recurrence rates were used to evaluate the effectiveness of enema reduction. The perforation rate was used to evaluate the safety of enema reduction. Results: A total of 2124 cases met the inclusion criteria (UGHR group: 1119 cases; FGAR group: 1005 cases). The success and recurrence rates in the UGHR group were higher than in the FGAR group (95.80%, 9.28% vs. 93.13%, 10.65%) (P < 0.05, P > 0.05), respectively. The perforation rate in the UGHR group was 0.36% compared with 0.30% in the FGAR group (P > 0.05). Subgroup analysis showed the success rates in the UGHR group were higher than in the FGAR group of patients with onset time between 12 and 24 h (95.56% vs. 90.57%) (P < 0.05). Of patients aged 4 to 24 months, the success rates in the UGHR group were also higher than in the FGAR group (95.77% vs. 91.60%) (P < 0.05). Stratified analysis showed the success rates in the UGHR group were higher than in the FGAR group in patients with the symptom of bloody stool (91.91% vs 85.38%) (P < 0.05). Conclusions: UGHR and FGAR are safe, nonsurgical treatment methods for acute pediatric intussusception. UGHR is superior to FGAR, no radiation risk, its success rate is higher, without a difference in perforation rate, especially for patients aged 4–24 months. Level of evidence: Level II. Good retirement planning requires accurate estimation of the time horizon, that is, the lifespan. People may overestimate or underestimate their lifespan and, as a result, under- or over-save for their retirement. Determining to what extent a person overestimates or underestimates their lifespan requires the separation of private information (e.g. family longevity history) and misinformation (e.g. misperception of one's related cohort life expectancy). This paper proposes a method to identify and separate the effects of private information and misinformation on one's subjective life expectancy. The method requires the person to provide their subjective life expectancy estimations for not only themselves but also for their peers. We apply the method to a sample of about 700 Chinese adults aged 40 and above. We find that misinformation leads the respondents to overestimate their remaining lifespan by 18% on average. We also find that private information leads the respondents in our sample to believe that their remaining lifespan will be 12% longer on average than their peers of the same age and gender. However, the dispersion of the individual estimates is large, meaning that some people may significantly overestimate their lifespan while others significantly underestimate. Through online observation and offline chemistry analysis of samples at suburban, urban and industrial sites (NJU, PAES and NUIST, respectively) in Nanjing, a typical polluted city in the Yangtze River Delta, we optimized the aerosol light scattering estimation method, identified its influencing factors and quantified the contributions of emission sources to aerosol scattering. The daily average concentration of PM 2.5 during the sampling period (November 2015–March 2017) was 163.1±13.6 µgm-3 for the heavily polluted period, 3.8 and 1.6 times those for the clean (47.9±15.8 µgm-3) and lightly polluted (102.1±16.4 µgm-3) periods, respectively. The largest increase in PM concentration and its major chemical components was found at the size range of 0.56–1.0 µm for the heavily polluted period, and the contributions of nitrate and sulfate were the greatest in the 0.56–1.0 µm fraction (19.4 %–39.7 % and 18.1 %–34.7 %, respectively) for all the three periods. The results indicated that the large growth of nitrate and sulfate was one of the major reasons for the polluted periods. Based on measurements at the three sites, the US Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments (IMPROVE) algorithm was optimized to evaluate aerosol scattering in eastern China. The light absorption capacity of organic carbon (OC) was estimated to account for over half of the methanol-soluble organic carbon (MSOC) at NJU and PAES, whereas the fraction was lower at NUIST. Based on the Mie theory, we found that the high relative humidity (RH) could largely enhance the light scattering effect of accumulation particles, but it had few effects on the mixing state of particles. The scattering coefficients of particles within the 0.56–1.0 µm range contributed the most to the total scattering (28 %–69 %). The mass scattering efficiency (MSE) of sulfate and nitrate increased with the elevated pollution level, whereas a low MSE of organic matter (OM) was found for the heavily polluted period, probably because a proportion of OM had only a light absorption property. A coupled model of positive matrix factorization (PMF) and the Mie theory was developed and applied for the source apportionment of aerosol light scattering. Coal burning, industry and vehicles were identified as the major sources of the reduced visibility in Nanjing, with an estimated collective contribution at 64 %–70 %. The comparison between the clean and polluted period suggested that the increased primary particle emissions from vehicles and industry were the major causes of the visibility degradation in urban and industrial regions, respectively. A blood pressure (BP) of 130-139/80-89 mmHg has been defined as stage 1 hypertension by the 2017 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association High Blood Pressure Clinical Practice Guidelines. This study was conducted to assess the association of cardiovascular risk factors (CRFs) and newly defined stage 1 hypertension in China. We analyzed the data of 84,489 adults with a BP of <140/90 mmHg. The 10-year cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk score was calculated using the China-PAR equation. Logistic analysis was used to assess the association between CRFs and stage 1 hypertension. The mean values of CRFs, the proportion of metabolic abnormalities, the prevalence of ≥2 CRFs, and the 10-year CVD risk of individuals with a BP of 130-139/80-89 mmHg were significantly higher than those of the population with a BP of <130/80 mmHg. The adjusted odds ratios (ORs) of waist circumference, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and triglycerides were 1.362 (CI 95% = 1.081–1.715, p =.009), 1.264 (CI 95% = 1.093–1.462, p =.002), and 1.331 (CI 95% = 1.009–1.755, p =.043), respectively. Other CRFs were not significantly associated with stage 1 hypertension. Multidisciplinary and targeted interventions are required to manage the CRFs (especially abdominal obesity, elevated FPG, and hypertriglyceridemia) of the population with a BP of 130-139/80-89 mmHg in China. Investigating oasis effects of different oasis-town configurations is key to understanding the ecological stability of the oasis. However, previous studies have not considered the impacts of oasis–town configurations on oasis effects. In this study, the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model was used to conduct a series of 1-km-resolution simulations of the Hami Oasis, Xinjiang of China, to examine how different oasis–town configurations influenced the oasis effects. The actual landscape and four hypothetical landscapes were considered. Results indicated that the WRF model effectively reproduced the trends of the surface temperature, 2-m air temperature, 2-m relative humidity, and 10-m wind speed. It was also found that the effects of the town on the oasis were substantially greater when the former was located at the center of the oasis, rather than on the margin. At 850 hPa, the center of the temperature field was downstream from that of the wind field, whereas both coincided at lower levels. When the size of the town was doubled, the convergence center over the town weakened the strength of the divergent low-level winds from the oasis. This facilitated the infiltration of dry air from the surrounding desert into the oasis, which is detrimental to the healthy development of the oasis. Placing a town at the margin of the oasis is therefore advantageous to the development of the cold island, whereas a town at the center of the oasis is beneficial to the comfort of the residents. Aims: Larix kaempferi planting with broad-leaved trees can increase production and alleviate soil degradation; however, the mechanism is unclear, especially on large scales and in different climate regions. This paper attempts to explain the underlying mechanism in a temperate region and northern subtropical alpine region of China. Methods: Litter decomposition rates, nutrient release, enzyme activity and microbial community composition were determined in conifer litter, broad-leaved litter and mixed litter by the litterbag method during about 500 days in the two regions. Results: Decomposition rate was increased by 4.00% in temperate region and 3.38% in the subtropical region after litter mixing and the synergistic effect increased with decomposition progress. However, nutrients release was not always enhanced, and enzyme activities were enhanced at the most of decomposition time and higher in the subtropical region. After litter mixing, a few new dominant taxa emerged, and the microbial gene quantities were increased in the temperate region, but not in the subtropical region. The dominant bacterial taxa were similar, while most of the dominant fungal taxa shifted with decomposition. In addition, the dominant fungi completely differed between the two regions. The environmental variables with greater influence on microbial community were similar in the two regions, including C:N, C:P and pH. Conclusions: After mixing with broad-leaved litter, the decomposition of Larix kaempferi was enhanced by increasing enzyme activities and microbial quantities in the temperate region, but the mechanisms were not clear in the subtropical region. This study explores how sub-national institutions affect the diversification of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into new businesses. Using a sample of 3240 SMEs in China, we found that the dominance of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and the development of market systems in a province were related to local SMEs' diversification. Specifically, in provinces dominated by SOEs, SMEs were less likely to diversify into new businesses. The development of market systems tended to reduce the odds of diversification for SMEs that primarily served local markets, and lower the likelihood of unrelated diversification. As a rare attempt to examine the impact of sub-national institutions on SMEs' diversification, this study contributes to the research on diversification, institutions, and SME management. Background and Aim. In clinical practice, we found that the degree of gastroesophageal laxity (cardia or hiatus) under retroflexed endoscopy is associated with the enlargement of esophageal hiatus during operation, but specific data was lacking. The aim of this study was to confirm this correlation. Methods. Information from patients who underwent endoscopy and CT scan in our department was collected and analyzed retrospectively. Three-dimensional reconstruction of hiatus from CT images was performed using 3DSlicer software, and the degree of esophageal hiatus enlargement was compared with the degree of gastroesophageal laxity under retroflexed endoscopy. Results. Information from 104 patients was included for analysis. The Spearman correlation coefficient was 0.617 (p ≤ 0.001). When subgroup correlation analysis was performed according to the presence of hiatal hernia on CT, the Spearman correlation coefficient was 0.816 (p ≤ 0.001) in the hernia group and 0.351 (p = 0.002) in the nonhernia group. The proportion of hiatal hernia and severe esophagitis was increasing gradually with the degree of gastroesophageal laxity. Conclusion. The degree of gastroesophageal laxity (cardia or hiatus) under retroflexed endoscopy reflects the degree of esophageal hiatus enlargement; with the degree of gastroesophageal laxity increasing, the proportion of HH and severe esophagitis increases gradually. The microbiological quality of ready-to-eat (RTE) foods from school cafeterias in Chongqing, People's Republic of China, was evaluated and compared with a guideline published by a provincial health commission. These RTE foods were divided into five types based on their preparation processes and potential risks: 1, general cooked and hot-held foods; 2, cooked meats; 3, heated aquatic products; 4, fresh fruits or vegetables; and 5, cooked foods with postcooking handling (e.g., cutting, cooling, or addition of ingredients or condiments). Food types 1 through 3 (subjected to thermal processes and hot-held) were microbiologically safer than types 4 and 5 (prepared by nonthermal process or with postcooking processes). None of the samples of types 1 through 3 were unsatisfactory based on their aerobic plate counts (APC) and total coliforms (TC), whereas 43.1% of type 4 and 8.3 and 71.7% of type 5 samples were unsatisfactory due to high counts of TC and high APC and TC, respectively. Two, 12, and 50 samples of types 2, 4, and 5, respectively, were unacceptable due to high levels of Staphylococcus aureus. Bacillus cereus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus were detected, but levels were below the unacceptable limits. None of the samples were positive for Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, or Escherichia coli O157. The bacterial profile can be used by policy makers and epidemiologists for microbiological risk assessments, which may be conducive to developing interventions to control hazards, improve food hygiene, and develop safety management systems for school cafeterias in China. Microbiological quality of RTE foods from school cafeterias was investigated. Unsatisfactory levels of bacteria were detected in some RTE foods. Traditional Chinese medicine residue (TCMR) is the solid substances remaining after the extraction of pharmaceutical ingredients from medicinal plant materials, which include abundant soil nutrients. However, TCMR is nearly lost as domestic garbage, which not only occupies a large amount of land but also leads to the waste of resource, as well as causing the eco-environment potential pollution. Therefore, we implemented this study to assess whether TCMR could be used as an organic fertilizer in agricultural practices for realizing waste resource utilization, improving soil fertility, and enhancing plant growth. The results showed that (1) application of TCMR could improve soil fertility, particularly in enhancing the soil contents of SOM, TN, NaOH-N, NaHCO3-P, and HNO3-K; (2) the higher application ratios of TCMR (0.8–1.0%) that increased the soil EC values would cause the risk of soil secondary salinization; (3) the lower application ratios of TCMR (0.2–0.6%) has a better positive effect on improved the maize seedlings' physiological parameters and photosynthetic performance than the higher application ratios; (4) although application of TCMR lead to the heavy metal (Cr, Pb, Cd, As, and Hg) content increased in soil, there was no ecology risk under below 0.8% application ratio, compared with the China soil risk control standards, geo-accumulation index (Igeo), and pollution load index (PLI). Thus, TCMR could potentially be used as an organic fertilizer in agricultural practices. Objective: The effects of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) on severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) have been controversial. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of LMWH on prognosis of SAP by systematic review and meta‐analysis. Methods: We searched relevant studies published up to March 2019 in five databases (MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and the Chinese Journal of Science and Technology of VIP database). Results: Sixteen randomized controlled trials with 1625 patients were included in the final analysis. Most studies were from China. In analysis of laboratory parameters and clinical scores, SAP patients receiving LMWH treatment had lower white blood cell counts, C‐reactive protein level, Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score, and computed tomography severity index. In clinical outcomes, SAP patients who received LMWH treatment had shorter hospital stay (pooled mean difference [95% confidence interval; CI] −8.79 [−11.18, −6.40], P < .01), lower mortality (pooled risk ratio [RR] [95% CI] 0.33 [0.24‐0.44], P < .01), lower incidences of multiple organ failure (pooled RR [95% CI] 0.34 [0.23‐0.52], P < .01), pancreatic pseudocyst (pooled RR [95% CI] 0.49 [0.27‐0.90], P =.02), and operation rate (pooled RR [95% CI] 0.39 [0.31‐0.50], P < .01). Conclusions: LMWH could improve the prognosis of SAP, and has a potential role in reducing hospital stay, mortality, incidences of multiple organ failure, pancreatic pseudocyst, and operation rate. Previous studies have noted that a strong El Niño event occurring in the preceding winter will result in westward stretching of the western North Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) in the following summer, causing anomalously high precipitation in the Yangtze–Huaihe River basin and anomalously low precipitation in southern China. The winters preceding the summers of 1998 and 2016 featured strong El Niño events, which, along with the El Niño event of 1982, represented the strongest El Niño events since 1950. Under these similar El Niño event backgrounds, the July precipitation anomaly in 2016 was similar to that in 1998, but the August precipitation anomalies in the two years featured opposite distributions. According to the atmospheric circulation analysis, we found that an anomalous ascending motion appeared over the Indian Ocean, while an anomalous descending motion appeared over the Pacific Ocean in August 1998. In addition, the WPSH stretched westward over southern China. However, the atmospheric circulation distribution in August 2016 was the opposite of that in 1998, and the WPSH was divided into eastern and western parts by the anomalous western Pacific cyclone. Further analysis showed that the number of tropical cyclones and typhoons over the western Pacific Ocean increased significantly in August 2016, and their activities were concentrated in the South China Sea (SCS)–southern China region and the western Pacific Ocean, resulting in the division of the WPSH. Therefore, the numbers, tracks, and strengths of tropical cyclones and typhoons were responsible for the differences in the anomalous precipitation distributions over the East Asia–Pacific Ocean region between August 2016 and August 1998. Organizational control scholars have recently noted how control use is not singular in organizations, but rather, different types of control are used to achieve different purposes. In international joint ventures (IJVs), we suggest that output, process, and social control are exercised by both foreign and local parent firms. We then hypothesize that a parent firm's usage of these three control types is influenced by its resource contributions. Using a sample of IJVs in China, we find that property-based contribution is linked with output and process control, and knowledge-based contribution is related to process and social control. The results also show differences in control practices between foreign and local parent firms. This study analyses the changes in sediment transport regimes in the middle Yellow River basin (MYRB) using sediment rating parameters. Daily streamflow and suspended sediment concentration data were collected at 35 hydrological stations from the 1950s to 2016, which can be divided into three periods based on the type and intensity of human activities: the base stage before 1970, the restraining stage from 1971 to 1989, and the restoration stage after 2002. Data within each period were fitted by log‐linear sediment rating curves and the sediment rating parameters were utilized to analyse the spatial and temporal variations in sediment transport regimes. The results show that sediment rating parameters are indicative of sediment transport regimes. In the base stage and the restraining stage, the hydrological stations can be categorized into four groups based on their locations on the rating parameter plot. The stations with small drainage basins were characterized by the highest sediment transport regime, followed by those located in the coarse‐particle zone, the loess zone, and the mountainous/forest zone. In the restoration stage, the difference in sediment transport regimes between different geomorphic zones became less distinguishable than in previous stages. During the transition from the base stage to the restraining stage, sediment rating parameters showed no significant changes in sediment transport regimes in all four geomorphic groups. During the transition from the restraining stage to the restoration stage, significant changes were observed in the coarse‐particle zone and the mountain/forest zone, indicating that the revegetation programme and large reservoirs imposed a stronger influence on sediment transport regimes in these two zones than in the rest of the MYRB. The domestication of domestic silkworm Bombyx mori , the only truly domesticated insect, is a distinctive event in agricultural history. The domestication and origin of domestic silkworm remains unclear, although it has connected with human for ~5500 years. In the present study, we would like to highlight our evidence from whole mitochondrial genome for the presence of two genetically distinctive subtypes in Chinese B. mandarina populations, corresponding to northern Chinese B. mandarina and southern Chinese B. mandarina , respectively. The mitochondrial genomes and mitochondrial phylogenetic tree provide a solid molecular evidence that the true wild ancestor of domestic silkworm is northern Chinese B. mandarina , rather than southern Chinese B. mandarina , thus implying that the early domestication event may have occurred in northern China. Our finding provides new insights into the origin and evolution of domestic silkworm.
