Background: Skipping breakfast is becoming common worldwide. Our previous studies showed that the breakfast prevalence was relatively low.Methods: In three cross-sectional studies, breakfast prevalence in various populations in Inner Mongolia Medical University campus in 2011, 2013 and 2017 was investigated. Risk of skipping breakfast in 2017 was analyzed. In follow-up study, the incidence, RR, AR% and PAR% of eating and skipping breakfast from 2011 to 2013 were calculated.Results: Data of 18,231 individuals were collected. Breakfast prevalence growth was 16.1% during the seven years. The annulus growth of breakfast prevalence was 9.3% (2013 vs 2011, P < 0.001) and 6.3% (2017 vs 2013, P < 0.001). The breakfast prevalence of three cross-sectional studies (73.0 vs 64.9%, P < 0.001; 79.5 vs 69.6%, P < 0.001; and 82.8 vs 77.4%, P < 0.001) and the breakfast incidence of a two-year follow-up study (70.6 vs 48.5% 95% CI: 1.12-1.90) both showed that breakfast consumption in medical students is higher than that in students from nonmedical faculties. The seven-year average breakfast prevalence of male and female medical students (70.0 and 82.5%) was 1.31 (95% CI: 1.23-1.39) and 1.09 (95% CI: 1.06-1.11) that of male and female students from nonmedical faculties (53.6 and 75.8%), respectively.Conclusion: Medical students have a higher breakfast consumption than nonmedical students. Male students from nonmedical faculties have the lowest breakfast prevalence and the highest breakfast skip risk in our university. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, a modified mosaic approach method (MMAM), which considers the subgrid‐scale effect of topographical height on atmospheric forcing, is introduced. Two experiments are designed to study the effects of MMAM on surface meteorological variables in Western China within the weather research and forecasting (WRF) modelling framework during June to August 2010. Results show that MMAM has obvious effects on surface 2 m temperature improvement. Simulations of the surface 2 m temperature with MMAM are closer to the observed values over a wide range of areas, particularly around the Qinghai‐Tibet Plateau and the Tianshan Mountains. However, MMAM does not show obvious improvements on 2 m relative humidity and on 10 m wind velocity. By investigations of two selected grid cells, we find that MMAM always shows a consistent deviation (positive or negative) on 2 m temperatures compared with the control experiment throughout the study period, which is related to the fact that the difference in topographical height within the model grid does not vary with time; the differences of surface energy illustrate that MMAM directly affects the upward longwave radiation due to a revision of the forcing temperature, resulting in a redistribution of surface energy. China's energy conservation has received extensive attention. As the most important sector of the economy, the manufacturing industry plays a vital role in China's energy issues. Conserving energy in China's manufacturing industry (CMI) is of great significance for both China and the world. In this paper, the co-integration method is applied to test the long-term equilibrium relationship among energy consumption and three explanatory variables during the period 1980–2013. Furthermore, we use scenarios analysis method to forecast the energy demand of CMI. The results show that if the government does not properly manage the economy, the energy demand of CMI will reach 2558.97 Mtce in 2020 and 2594.18 Mtce in 2030. On the contrary, if the government attaches importance to energy conservation and takes necessary actions, energy demand in the industry will reduce to 1113.79 Mtce by 2030, which implies a large energy conservation potential for CMI. The mechanisms governing variations in autumn precipitation are complicated and influenced by a number factors. This paper analyses the characteristics of autumn precipitation in China and investigates the influence of Asian polar vertex contraction on rainfall deficits in China and relevant mechanisms. Autumn precipitation decreased significantly from 1961 to 2012 in mid- and southern China, and the area of the Asia polar vortex (AAV) has decreased significantly since 1988. Asian polar vertex contraction is found to be an important factor in these autumn rainfall deficits in China through the following mechanism. Asian polar vertex contraction causes anomalously high geopotential heights in East Asia (from 25°N to 55°N) and low heights north of 65°N in the upper and lower troposphere, weakening meridional gradients in geopotential height. In the upper troposphere, the westerly and northerly winds are strengthened over high latitudes and westerly winds and the subtropical westerly jet are weakened over the East Asian mid-latitudes. In the lower troposphere, westerly winds are strengthened over high latitudes, westerly winds are weakened in East Asia and along the southern periphery of the Tibetan Plateau, and northerly winds in mid- and southern China are clearly strengthened. Rivers provide the basis for sustainable socio-economic development, but increasingly intense human activities poses a threat to river health. To comprehensively investigate the river health in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, China, the Lhasa River is selected as study area, and a comprehensive indicator system incorporating ecosystem integrity (physical habitat, water quantity and quality, aquatic life) and non-ecological performance (social services) is constructed. The random impacts of sampling methods and environmental factors on the accuracy of monitoring data are effectively reduced by the wavelet noise reduction. Combined weights of river health indicators are calculated using the minimum deviation principle. A novel multidimensional similarity cloud model (MSCM) is then developed for assessing river health with fuzzy monitoring data. Results show that the upper reaches of Lhasa River is healthy in terms of ecosystem integrity and non-ecological performance. And the health level exhibits significant spatial variability influenced by urban construction and water conservancy projects, with decreasing health level from upper to lower reaches. 52% of the sampling sites are at excellent or healthy levels, 40% are subhealthy, and 8% are unhealthy in the Lhasa River. Accordingly, recommendations and measures are proposed to improve river health level and explore sustainable water-management policies in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
