Using the exogenous event of oil price sharp decline in 2014–2015, this paper employs the difference‐in‐difference method to establish a causal link between the oil price decline and the Chinese firms' labour investment. Data of listed companies in China from 2012 to 2016 are used to explore this relationship. We show that the employment for firms in industries with significant negative oil price risk exposure increases 16.4% after the oil price plummeted, that is, the oil price decline significantly promotes the firms' labour force. Additionally, the positive effect of oil price decline on the firms' labour force is more pronounced in firms with higher risk‐taking, financing constraints, and industry competition. Lastly, we also document that the effect of oil price decline is through sales growth channels to increase labour demand. However, firms tend to overinvest in labour after the oil price plummeted. Based on these findings we suggest that oil price fluctuation should be an important factor for the Chinese government and enterprises when they make an economic decision related to the labour force. This article sheds light on the intricate relationship between the revival of Hanfu, traditional couture from the Han Dynasty, and rising Chinese nationalism among Chinese youth living in the United Kingdom. Mobilizing the theoretical tool 'affective economies', we explore how particular feelings and values are assigned and attached to Hanfu, and thereby circulate among young Chinese migrants. We begin by examining the Hanfu movement to interrogate how Hanfu is reinvented based on a selective historicity of the past, serving as a specific cultural product for China's rejuvenation. We then move on to analyze a series of in-depth interviews conducted between December 2019 and July 2020. We probe the lived experiences of young Hanfu supporters, who are members of the UK Han Culture Association, and the cultural events organized by the Association, in order to scrutinize the ways Hanfu conjures up an imagined community suffused with nationalism. Drawing upon on the affective economies of Hanfu, we discern the following three key findings: First, we argue that there are both positive and negative affective attachments to Hanfu, such as homesickness, loneliness, alienation, happiness, pride and beauty, which impinge on migrant bodies, assigning values to Hanfu and the Hanfu-related cultural events. Second, we show through the analysis of the fieldwork materials the paradoxical desire for chuguo (going abroad) and huiguo (returning to the nation) in the hearts of the young migrants. Finally, we argue that Hanfu circulates as a 'mnemonic thing' that signifies a specific imaginary of Ancient China, where young migrant's aiguo (love of the nation) sentiments are then 'stuck' to this reinvented fashion. Puppets, a kind of wooden figure whose movements are manipulated by artists, were frequently used in ancient Chinese singing and dancing activities and dramas. The uniqueness of substituting human beings for puppets has drawn tremendous attention from scholars. However, despite previous research on the long development process of puppet dramas, a considerable number of details remain neglected, and behind these details lies an abundance of complicated religious factors. Therefore, this paper uses several fragments as entry points in terms of puppet dramas' modeling, materials, craft, rites, function, artists, organization, and other aspects to comprehensively analyze the influence of witchcraft, Daoism, and Buddhism on China's puppet dramas. This research first unveils that a ferocious appearance and mahogany as a material, both used in puppets, are outer manifestations to reveal the magical power of witchcraft. Next, the rites performed in Li Yuan Jiao using ritual puppets were characterized by mystery in their implication and ambiguity in their religious sect, which was related to the attempt to hide their notorious identities as wizards on the part of the artists. Third, general puppet artists enjoyed a fairly high social status, conferred by their semi-religionist identity and the puppet dramas' historical status. Objective: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a global social, economic, and health challenge that is associated with premature death and long-term disability. In the context of rapid development of urbanization, the analysis of TBI rate andmortality trend could provide abundant diagnosis and treatment suggestions, which helps to form future reference on public health strategies. Methods: In this study, as one of major neurosurgical centers in China, we focused on the regime shift of TBI based on 18-year consecutive clinical data and evaluated the epidemiological features. In our current study, a total of 11,068 TBI patients were reviewed. Results: The major cause of TBI was road trafic injuries (44.%), while the main type of injury was cerebral contusion (n = 4,974 [44.94%]). Regarding to temporal changes, a decreasing trend in TBI incidence for patients under 44 years old was observed, while an increasing trend for those aged over 45 years was indicated. Incidences of RTI and assaults decreased, while ground level fall presented increasing incidences. The total number of deaths was 933 (8.43%), with a decreasing trend in overall mortality since 2011. Age, cause of injury, GCS at admission, Injury Severity Score, shock state at admission, trauma-related diagnoses and treatments were significantly associated withmortality. A predictive nomogram model for poor prognosis was developed based on patient's GOS scores at discharge. Conclusions: The trends and characteristics of TBI patients changed with rapid development of urbanization in the past 18 years. Objective: Awake craniotomy with intraoperative brain functional mapping effectively reduces the potential risk of neurological deficits in patients with glioma invading the eloquent areas. However, glioma patients frequently present with impaired neurocognitive function. The present study aimed to investigate the neurocognitive and functional outcomes of glioma patients after awake brain mapping and assess the experience of a tertiary neurosurgical center in China over eight years. Methods: This retrospective study included 80 patients who underwent awake brain mapping for gliomas invading the eloquent cortex between January 2013 and December 2021. Clinical and surgical factors, such as the extent of resection (EOR), perioperative Karnofsky Performance Score (KPS), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS), were evaluated. We also used the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) to assess the neurocognitive status changes. Results: The most frequently observed location of glioma was the frontal lobe (33/80, 41.25%), whereas the tumor primarily invaded the language-related cortex (36/80, 45%). Most patients had supratotal resection (11/80, 13.75%) and total resection (45/80, 56.25%). The median PFS was 43.2 months, and the median OS was 48.9 months in our cohort. The transient (less than seven days) neurological deficit rate was 17.5%, whereas the rate of persistent deficit (lasting for three months) was 15%. At three months of follow-up, most patients (72/80, 90%) had KPS scores > 80. Meanwhile, compared to the preoperative baseline tests, the changes in MoCA scores presented significant improvements at discharge and three months follow-up tests. Conclusion: Awake brain mapping is a feasible and safe method for treating glioma invading the eloquent cortex, with the benefit of minimizing neurological deficits, increasing EOR, and extending survival time. RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) is a versatile, high-throughput technology that is being widely employed for screening differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in various diseases. Echinococcosis, a globally distributed zoonosis, has been reported to impose a heavy disease burden in pastoral areas of China. Herein we aimed to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying echinococcosis. In this study, peripheral blood samples were collected from six patients with alveolar echinococcosis (AE), six patients with cystic echinococcosis (CE), and six healthy controls. RNA-Seq (mRNA) was performed to detect gene transcript and expression levels, and DEGs were subjected to bioinformatic analyses. In comparison with healthy controls, 492 DEGs (270 upregulated, 222 downregulated) were found in the AE group and 424 DEGs (170 upregulated, 254 downregulated) were found in the CE group (|log2 (fold change)| > 1 and P < 0.05). Further, 60 genes were upregulated and 39 were downregulated in both the AE and CE groups. Gene ontology enrichment analysis indicated that DEGs were mainly involved in molecular functions, including extracellular space, extracellular region, organ and system development, and anatomical structure development. We assembled the complete chloroplast genome of Heracleum millefolium which is a traditional widely used medicinal plant in China. The whole genome is 150,025 bp in length which was divided into four subregions: a large single-copy region (93,645 bp), a pair of 19,458 bp inverted repeats regions, and a small single-copy region (17,464 bp), respectively. Additionally, the chloroplast genome of H. millefolium detected 128 genes, including 85 protein coding genes, 36 transfer RNAs, and eight ribosomal RNAs. The overall GC content of this chloroplast genome is 37.5% and the mean coverage value is 1752.4x. Phylogenetic analysis based on 17 chloroplast genomes dataset was conducted to clarify the relationships of the major clades in Apiaceae. Cold injury refers to local or systemic injury caused by a rapid, massive loss of body heat in a cold environment. The incidence of cold injury is high. However, the current situation regarding the diagnosis and treatment of cold injury in our country is not ideal. To standardize and improve the level of clinical diagnosis and treatment of cold injury in China, it is necessary to make a consensus that is practical and adapted to the conditions in China. We used the latest population-level epidemiological and clinical research data, combined with relevant literature from China and foreign countries. The consensus was developed by a joint committee of multidisciplinary experts. Mahoraga dolls, a type of figurine showing a child holding a lotus leaf, are sacrifice utensils that were commonly used in the Qixi Festival to pray for reproduction throughout the Song Dynasty in China. Scholars pay great attention to the Buddhistic origins of Mahoraga, relating it to different figures within Buddhism and discussing its religious artistic values. This paper focuses on the transformation of this cultural appropriation in Chinese society by discussing the localization of Mahoraga as well as the reasons behind the use of Mahoraga in worship in Qixi in particular. We believe that the population crisis and national population policies in the Song Dynasty stimulated Chinese people's longing for procreation and this desire was responded to by the secularization and popularization of Buddhism in China, together with the increased prosperity of citizen culture, which ultimately promoted the popularity of Mahoraga in Song society. Abstract: This research was to evaluate the Technical Guideline (HJ/T130-2003) effectiveness based on data resource from a questionnaire survey and interviews on EIA experts. The result demonstrated that the guideline served mainly as a quality control measure for PEIA products, and only a small proportion of experts considered it effective due to its inconsistency with the newly released Chinese PEIA Regulation (2009) and poor practicability. Current status of SEA implementation in China was also studied in terms of application fields, effectiveness evaluation, and major issues to affect SEA, to conclude that SEA implementation in China is premature, and with limited effectiveness. The major problem was the lack of effective methodologies and technical tools. Recommendations for revising the PEIA Guideline and advices to improving SEA implementation in China were accordingly proposed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The value of subjective attitude parameters in and abroad were introduced in this paper on the basis of the third generation prospect theory, aiming to make a further study on the preference reversal between willingness to accept, willingness to pay and choice. Results suggest that people''s significant reversal activities are relatively constant, and there are standard preference reversal in the group of WTA/WTP and the group of WTA/Choice, and non-standard preference reversal in the group of WTP/Choice. Besides, Chinese are more risk-seeking in gain and more risk-aversion in loss than Americans while Americans are more likely to present preference reversal compared to Chinese. Abstract: The distribution of human Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) genotypes is reportedly associated with geography, ethnicity and population migrations. Three groups of 208 patients with tuberculosis in Taiwan were sampled to test this observation: (1) 41 aborigines of Austronesian ethnicity, who have been inhabiting in Taiwan for more than 500 years; (2) 58 veterans of Han Chinese origin, who moved as the first generation from Mainland China to Taiwan 55–60 years ago; and (3) 109 patients representing the general Taiwanese population of Han Chinese whose ancestors migrated to Taiwan around 200–400 years ago. A total of 208 MTB isolates, one per patient, were analyzed by spoligotyping and mycobacterial interspersed repetitive unit (MIRU) typing. Beijing ancient strains and Haarlem strains predominated among aborigines, while Beijing modern strains were common among veterans and the general population. All Beijing strains were further analyzed by typing the NTF loci and RD deletion. Results suggest a chronological trend among Beijing isolates from the three groups: isolates from the aborigines had signatures compatible with ancient lineages, and those from veterans and the general population were more contemporary. Our data indicate that the distribution of MTB genotypes/strains in Taiwan is associated with different populations whose migratory activities occurred between 55 and 500 years ago. Globba lacangensis is a typical myrmecochorous perennial herb found in southwest China. In 2002 and 2003, seed dispersal by ants was examined. Twelve ant species were recorded and found to move seeds 0.01-3.35 m. This removal promoted seed dispersal. In 2003, ant exclusion was made in 4 of 8 study plots for 1 year to practically detect the effects of ant dispersal. As a result, nearest neighbor analyses indicated that although ant dispersal could not significantly change the mean nearest neighbor distance, it obviously reduced the clustering degree of seedlings. Spatial genetic structure (SGS) of mature plants in 2003 and sequent seedlings in 2004 were investigated with intersimple sequence repeats. The whole correlagram of all individuals from 2003 showed significant positive autocorrelations between genetic and geographical distances within 4 m, suggesting a patchy structure at such short distances in the studied population. This pattern is likely associated with limited seed dispersal. The comparative analysis of fine-scale correlograms (<4 m) for ant-excluded treatment indicated lacking ants as the primary dispersers could have a similar pattern to ant dispersal presence, which is likely due to the restriction of ant dispersal distance. In conclusion, ant-mediated dispersal contributes to reduce seedling clustering degree and plays a minor role in developing and maintaining the local SGS in G. lancangensis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents a study which examines the chemical constituents of Helianthus annuus L., an allelopathic cultivar sunflower in China. It discusses the isolation and characterization of the eight compounds from the isolated methanolic extracts of the Helianthus annuus L. leaves. It states that the leaves were collected in Wuzhong City, Ningxia Province and were identified by Mr. Z. H. Wu at Northwest Institute of Botany in Yangling, Shaanxi Province.

Firstly, the spatial and temporal characteristics of carbon emissions in the Chinese building sector are explored. Secondly, the spatial and temporal heterogeneity of the provincial contributions to carbon emissions in the Chinese building sector and their influencing factors are analyzed. Finally, the spatial and temporal evolution of carbon emissions in the Chinese building sector is projected for the period 2022-2050. The results show that: (1) From 2010 to 2021, carbon emissions in the Chinese buildings still maintain a high growth trend. In addition, building carbon emissions also offer unbalanced features in space. (2) The level of spatial aggregation of carbon emissions from buildings in China is on the rise. (3) The intensity of economic activity and per capita floor area are the main factors driving the increase in carbon emissions in the Chinese buildings, and energy consumption per unit of GDP is the most significant factor mitigating the rise in carbon emissions in the Chinese buildings. The level of contribution of each element to the carbon emissions in the Chinese buildings varies considerably from province to province. The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I-related molecules A (MICA) is a stress-inducible cell surface antigen that is recognized by intestinal epithelial Vδ1 γδ T cells, natural killer (NK) cells and CD8+ T cells with NKG2D receptor participating in the immunological reaction in the intestinal mucosa. The present study aimed to investigate the functions of the MICA*A5.1 allele in the development of ulcerative colitis (UC) in the Chinese population. The microsatellite polymorphisms of MICA were genotyped in 124 unrelated Chinese patients with UC and 172 ethnically matched healthy controls using a semiautomatic fluorescently labelled polymerase chain reaction. MICA*A5.1-expressing Raji cells were generated by gene transfection. Cytotoxicity of NK cells to Raji cells expressing different MICA molecules was detected using the lactate dehydrogenase method. Soluble MICA in the culture supernatant was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The frequency of MICA*A5.1 was significantly higher in UC patients compared with the healthy controls (29·0% versus 17·4%, P = 0·001, corrected P = 0·005, OR = 1·936, 95% CI 1·310–2·863) and the frequency of a MICA*A5.1/A5.1 homozygous genotype was increased in UC patients (18·5% versus 7% in healthy controls, P = 0·0032, corrected P = 0·048, OR = 3·036, 95% CI 1·447–6·372). Raji cells with MICA*A5.1 expression produced more soluble MICA ( t = 5·75, P < 0·01) than Raji cells with full-length MICA expression in culture supernatant. Raji cells with MICA*A5.1 expression were more resistant to killing by NK cells than Raji cells with full-length MICA expression. The MICA*A5.1 allele and MICA*A5.1/A5.1 genotype are significantly associated with Chinese UC patients in central China. After years of irrigating farmland with wastewater, concern is increasing about health risks from heavy metals contaminating wheat grown in sewage-irrigated soils in suburban areas of Beijing, China. The study discussed in this article aimed to compare the characteristics of heavy metal distribution in a sewage-irrigated “soil-wheat” system with those from a clean-water-irrigated area by collecting and analyzing samples from both areas. The results indicated that the average concentrations of copper, chromium, lead, and zinc in sewage-irrigated soil were higher than the values in the clean-water-irrigated region. Irrigation with wastewater could lead to increased bioconcentration factors. Therefore, issues of food contamination caused by sewage irrigation deserve more attention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Soil heavy metal contamination is a major environmental concern, and the ecological risk associated with heavy metals is increasing. In this paper, we investigated heavy metal contamination near Dabaoshan Mine by: using sequential indicator simulation to delineate the spatial patterns of soil data; fitting multiple linear regression models for heavy metal uptake by crops; interpreting land uses from remote sensing images and integrating the spatial patterns, uptake models and land uses into a dose–response model for human health risks from heavy metals. The areas with elevated soil heavy metal concentrations are mainly located at the Dabaoshan Mine site and in the watershed basins of the Hengshi, Tielong and Chuandu rivers. The average concentrations of Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb in soil in the study area are all above the natural soil background levels, but Cd is the major contributor to human health risk in the area. Areas of low soil pH are also found throughout the watershed basins of the Hengshi, Tielong and Chuandu rivers. Of the different land use types in the study area, agricultural and residential land uses have the highest human health risk because ingestion is the dominant exposure pathway for heavy metals. The spatial patterns of the heavy metal concentrations and soil pH indicate that the areas with the highest human health risk regions do not directly coincide with the areas of highest heavy metal concentrations, but do coincide with the areas of lower soil pH. The contamination with high concentrations of heavy metals provides the risk source, but the combination of high heavy metal concentrations, low pH and agricultural or residential land use is required for human health risks to be present. The spatial pattern of the hazard quotients indicates that Cd is the most important pollutant contributing to the human health risk. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

• ESDA was applied to estimate the pattern of ecological security (ES) in PRD, China. • Hot and cold spots for the spatial distribution of ES were identified. • Optimal management was proposed from three categories for each municipality. • The main factors influencing ES distribution were explored using semivariance. The ecological security (ES) pattern in China is gaining considerable attention worldwide due to intensifying urban development and human activities that threaten ecosystem structures and ecological processes. The Pearl River Delta (PRD) has experienced intense economic development for nearly 40 years; however, the ES pattern in the PRD is poorly understood. In this paper, we used a multisource data approach to assess ES, performed downscaling to a 1 × 1 km2 grid size, and applied spatial statistics to analyze the ES pattern in the PRD. We found three natural "ecological buffers," namely, nature reserves and forest patches covering several municipalities in the delta, thus guaranteeing the socio-economic development of this highly urbanized area. The spatial autocorrelation results indicated that the ES pattern is significantly spatially correlative (p = 0.001), with a Moran's I of 0.7766. We identified several hot and cold spots for the ES spatial distribution that occupied 58.49% of the PRD's total area. Moreover, a semivariance analysis showed that structural factors are dominant in the ES spatial distribution. Based on the ES area proportions, the 9 municipalities of the PRD can be grouped into three categories: optimized development zones, comprehensive development zones, and ecological conservation development areas. Zhaoqing, Huizhou and Jiangmen are key areas for improving ES conservation in the PRD. In this study, we explore an ES assessment model coupled with a spatial heterogeneity analysis to provide insights into ecological conservation efforts in urban agglomerations. Ecological infrastructure is a popular framework for conservation planning. In this paper, one of the most urbanized regions of China-Shenzhen was chosen as the study area. Ecological infrastructure with different configurations and functions were identified and combined to form the urban ecological network. The ecological sources were identified using morphological spatial pattern analysis (MSPA) and landscape connectivity analysis. The ecological resistance surface developed from ecosystem service value was modified basing on ecological sensitivity and landscape connectivity. The ecological network was constructed by minimum cumulative resistance (MCR) model and then optimized and accessed. The results show that: (1) the ecological network consists of 25 ecological sources distributed mainly in the southeast and west. Twenty-nine ecological corridors were extracted and 36 ecological nodes identified. (2) In the optimized ecological network, 10 new ecological sources were added, and 46 ecological corridors and 59 ecological nodes were identified. It would promote the connectivity of the ecological sources and the stability of ecological functioning process. (3) The ecological network took ecosystem service value and ecological sensitivity into consideration and lays emphasis on improving landscape connectivity, providing an approach to optimizing urban ecological network and contributing to urban planning. In order to study the characteristics of atmospheric dry and wet deposition elements and the health risks of typical industrial and mining cities in central Yunnan, the atmospheric dry and wet depositions collected from June 2019 to July 2020 in Anning city were selected as the research object and measured. The contents of the 11 indexes TN, F, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb, P, As, and Hg were determined, the annual atmospheric deposition flux was calculated, and the exposure risk model was used to assess the risk to human health. The results showed that:1 In addition to Cr, Ni, and As in the atmospheric dry sediments, the average contents of the elements F, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb, and Hg were significantly higher than those of the surface soil in Anning City, which were 5.82, 3.00, 28.27, 57.53, 2.83, and 1.08 times higher, respectively. The average contents of F and total nitrogen in wet deposition exceeded the standard value of surface water V-class water. 2 The annual atmospheric deposition flux of total nitrogen was the highest, and the annual deposition flux of eight heavy metal elements from smallest to largest was Hg-6 , thus, there was little or no carcinogenic risk. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the strict control of atmospheric heavy metal emissions from industrial and mining enterprises in this region.

Objective: To explore the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of cases with newly diagnosed echinococcosis in Sichuan Province from 2007 to 2017, so as to provide reference for the formulation of echinococcosis prevention and control strategies and for the identification of key areas., Methods: The spatial distribution maps of detection of cases with newly diagnosed echinococcosis were plotted in Sichuan Province from 2007 to 2017, and the spatial distribution characteristics and epidemic trends were analyzed., Results: From 2007 to 2017, the detection rate of cases with newly diagnosed echinococcosis appeared a decline in Sichuan Province year by year, and the areas with a high detection rate of cases with newly diagnosed echinococcosis were mainly located in western, northwestern and northern parts of Sichuan Province, while the areas with a low detection rate were predominantly found in the southern and eastern parts of the province. The global Moran's I values were 0.19, 0.22, 0.17, 0.44, 0.48, 0.31 and 0.16 for the detection rate of cases with newly diagnosed echinococcosis in Sichuan Province from 2010 to 2016 (all Z scores > 1.96, all P values < 0.05), suggesting spatial aggregation distribution during this period. Local spatial autocorrelation analysis revealed that the"high-high"areas and"low-low"areas for the detection rate of cases with newly diagnosed echinococcosis all showed an aggregation tendency., Conclusions: The detection rate of cases with newly diagnosed echinococcosis decreases in Sichuan Province from 2007 to 2017 year by year, and shows a spatial aggregation. The echinococcosis control activities should be intensified in Shiqu, Seda, Dege, Ganzi and Baiyu counties.

Objective: To investigate the level of IgG antibody to varicella in the healthy population aged 1-19 years in Harbin, China., Methods: Random sampling was performed to select 1 203 healthy individuals aged 1-19 years in Harbin. According to age, they were divided into ≥1 years group (n=240), ≥4 years group (n=396), ≥7 years group (n=364) and 14-19 years group (n=203). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure the concentration of varicella-zoster virus (VZV)-IgG antibody in serum, and a concentration of VZV-IgG antibody of ≥100 mIU/mL was considered positive, suggesting that the subject had the ability to resist VZV infection., Results: The overall positive rate of VZV-IgG antibody was 71.49% (860/1 203), and the concentration of VZV-IgG antibody was 447±17 mIU/mL. The concentration of VZV-IgG antibody tended to increase with age (P<0.05). The positive rate of VZV-IgG antibody in the urban population was significantly higher than that in the rural population (P<0.05). There was significant difference in the positive rate of VZV-IgG antibody between the populations with different doses of varicella vaccination (P<0.05), and the population with 2 doses of vaccination had the highest positive rate of VZV-IgG antibody. There was a significant difference in the concentration of VZV-IgG antibody between the populations with different medical histories (P<0.05), and the population with a past history of varicella had the highest concentration., Conclusions: Among the healthy population aged 1-19 years in Harbin, there is a significant difference in the level of VZV-IgG antibody between the urban and rural populations, as well as between different age groups. Varicella vaccination should be strengthened in areas with a low vaccination rate and the population aged <14 years.

Objective: To design and construct a patient-doctor interaction system for echinococcosis treatment., Methods: The in-depth interview and brainstorming method were used to determine the main functional modules of the system based on the server/client model., Results: An echinococcosis patient-doctor interaction system was successfully constructed in Sichuan Province and got through preliminary debugging. The system contained four functions, namely quick consultation, treatment supervision, health education, and other auxiliary functions., Conclusions: The patient-doctor interaction system of echinococcosis treatment is hopeful to enhance the management effectiveness on echinococcosis patients, and to provide more convenient and quick medical consultation and health information for patients.

Cities face many challenging environmental problems that affect human well-being. Environmental risks can be reduced by Urban Green Infrastructures (UGIs). The effects of UGIs on the urban environment have been widely studied, but less attention has been given to the public perception of these effects. This paper presents the results of a study in Guangzhou, China, on UGI users' perceptions of these effects and their relationship with sociodemographic variables. A questionnaire survey was conducted in four public green spaces. Descriptive statistics, a binary logistic regression model and cross-tabulation analysis were applied on the data from 396 valid questionnaires. The results show that UGI users were more concerned about poor air quality and high temperature than about flooding events. Their awareness of environmental risks was partly in accordance with official records. Regarding the perception of the impacts of environmental risks on human well-being, elderly and female respondents with higher education levels were the most sensitive to these impacts. The respondents' perceptions of these impacts differed among the different green spaces. The effects of UGIs were well perceived and directly observed by the UGI users, but were not significantly influenced by most sociodemographic variables. Moreover, tourists had a lower perception of the impacts of environmental risks and the effects of UGI than residents did. This study provides strong support for UGIs as an effective tool to mitigate environmental risks. Local governments should consider the role of UGIs in environmental risk mitigation and human well-being with regard to urban planning and policy making.

Objective: To study the prevalence of thyroid diseases, as well as characteristics of the disease spectrum and thyroid autoimmunity in women at the end of pregnancy., Methods: Six hundred and sixty-four pregnant women (pregnancy group) and 276 non-pregnant women (control group) were enrolled in the study. Serum thyrotropin (TSH), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), free T(3) (FT(3)) and free T(4) (FT(4)) were measured by high-sensitive immunochemiluminescent assay, and urinary iodine was also examined at the end of pregnancy. Overt hyperthyroidism was diagnosed when both TSH < 0.3 mU/L and FT(4) and/or FT(3) levels were elevated. Subclinical hyperthyroidism was diagnosed when TSH < 0.3 mU/L with normal FT(4) and FT(3) levels. The diagnostic criteria for overt hypothyroidism was TSH > 4.8 mU/L accompanied by decreased FT(4), and for subclinical hypothyroidism was TSH > 4.8 mU/L with normal FT(4) and FT(3) levels., Results: (1) The median urinary iodine (MUI) of pregnancy group was 201.5 microg/L, and that of control group was 196.0 microg/L (P > 0.05). Women in the two groups were iodine-adequate. (2) The overall prevalence of thyroid diseases in pregnancy group and control group was 7.8% (52/664) and 6.9% (19/276), respectively (P > 0.05). (3) As for the diseases pattern, there were obvious differences between the two groups. In pregnancy group, the prevalence of hyperthyroidism was lower than that of hypothyroidism (1.1% vs 6.8%, P < 0.01). In control group, the prevalence of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism was 4.7% and 2.2%, respectively (P > 0.05). Compared with control group, the prevalence of hyperthyroidism in pregnancy group was much lower (1.1% vs 4.7%, P < 0.01), mainly due to the decrease of overt hyperthyroidism; whereas, the increment of subclinical hypothyroidism resulted in the higher prevalence of hypothyroidism in pregnancy group (6.8% vs 2.2%, P = 0.01). (4) The median TSH level of the healthy women in pregnancy group was significantly higher than that in control group (2.50 vs 1.54 mU/L, P < 0.01). The positive rate of TPOAb in pregnancy women was lower than that in non-pregnancy women (3.3% vs 9.4%, P < 0.01)., Conclusion: At the end of pregnancy, hypothyroidism accounts for most thyroid diseases. Thyroid autoimmunity is suppressed.
