Simple Summary: Mesopredators (i.e., carnivores of small or intermediate body size) are key species for ecosystem stability, especially when larger carnivore populations have declined, as they have important ecosystem functions, such as population size control. They are essential for ecosystem energy circulation. Studies of predators' dietary habits and dietary differentiation between species provide critical information for identifying the structure and dynamics of trophic interactions in an ecosystem. Past research studies focused only on the diet of large carnivores while few detailed dietary datasets of mesopredators exist that present knowledge gaps regarding their coexistence. Using DNA metabarcoding, we studied the prey of three sympatric Mustelidae species in the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park. We find that prey preferences were largely partitioned by the three Mustelidae species and that they likely competed over certain dietary items (e.g., frogs and rodents). Our results provide an initial characterization of prey relationships between different Mustelidae species and may be used to inform management on dietary preferences of mesopredators that are affected by anthropogenic activities. Although human disturbance has declined with the creation of the national park, extra management for the protection of ecosystem functions and food webs is still needed. Diet analysis is essential to fully understand the biology of a species and its function within the ecosystem, as well as being key in identifying food web interactions and the population dynamics of predators and prey. The understanding of the diet of small to mid-sized carnivores remains generally lacking or uninformative due to the inability for taxonomic resolution based on morphology. The yellow-throated marten (Martes flavigula), Eurasian river otter (Lutra lutra), and Siberian weasel (Mustela sibirica) are three important Mustelidae species in ecosystems of northeast China. Based on fecal DNA and a next-generation sequencing (NGS) approach, we analyzed the vertebrate prey of these three sympatric Mustelidae. Prey included 7 mammalian taxa, 10 fishes, 2 birds, and 2 amphibians, with 85% of the taxa assigned to the species level. In total, twenty-one vertebrate prey taxa were identified from seven yellow-throated martens, eight Eurasian river otters, and two Siberian weasels. Concerning identified dietary species, 10 taxa were consumed by yellow-throated martens, 14 by Eurasian river otters, and 4 by Siberian weasels. Some prey species were identified in more than one species. Amphibians and fishes were the most dominant Eurasian river otter prey categories, whereas Eurasian badger (Meles leucurus), birds, and rodents were the main yellow-throated marten prey; amphibians and rodents were largely contained in Siberian weasel prey. Among prey items, Dybowski's frog (Rana dybowskii) and Korean field mouse (Apodemus peninsulae) were identified in all three Mustelidae species but our analyses suggest potential diet preferences among Mustelidae species. The ambient formation of secondary particulate matter (ambient FSPM) is commonly recognized as the major cause of severe PM2.5 air pollution in China. We present observational evidence showing that the ambient FSPM was too weak to yield a detectable contribution to extreme PM2.5 pollution events that swept northern China between 11 and 14 January 2019. Although the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model (v5.2) reasonably reproduced the observations in January 2019, it largely underestimated the concentrations of the PM2.5 during the episode. We propose a novel mechanism, called the "in-fresh-stack-plume non-precipitation-cloud processing of aerosols" followed by the evaporation of semi-volatile components from the aerosols, to generate PM2.5 at extremely high concentrations because of highly concentrated gaseous precursors and large amounts of water droplets in fresh cooling combustion plumes under poor dispersion conditions, low ambient temperature, and high relative humidity. The recorded non-precipitation-cloud processing of the aerosols in fresh stack combustion plumes normally lasts 20–30 s, but it prolongs as long as 2–5 min under cold, humid, and stagnant meteorological conditions and expectedly causes severe PM2.5 pollution events. Regardless of the presence of the natural cloud in the planetary boundary layer during the extreme events, the fast conversion of air pollutants in water droplets and the generation of the PM2.5 through the non-precipitation-cloud processing of aerosols always occur in fresh combustion plumes. The processing of aerosols is detectable using a nano-scan particle sizer assembled on an unmanned aerial vehicle to monitor the particle formation in stack plumes. Photodegradation is a key process impacting the lifetime of oxalate in the atmosphere, but few studies investigated this process in the field due to the complex mixing and sources of oxalate. Oxalate-containing particles were measured via single-particle aerosol mass spectrometry at coastal and suburban sites in Qingdao, a coastal city in North China in the summer of 2016. The mixing state and influence of different ambient conditions on the source and photodegradation of oxalate were investigated. Generally, 6.3% and 12.3% of the total particles (by number) contained oxalate at coastal and suburban sites, respectively. Twelve major types of oxalate-containing particles were identified, and they were classified into three groups. Biomass burning (BB)-related oxalate–K and oxalate–carbonaceous particles were the dominant groups, respectively, accounting for 68.9% and 13.6% at the coastal site and 72.0% and 16.8% at the suburban site. Oxalate–Heavy metals (HM)-related particles represented 14.6% and 9.3% of the oxalate particles at coastal and suburban sites, respectively, which were mainly from industrial emissions (Cu-rich, Fe-rich, Pb-rich), BB (Zn-rich), and residual fuel oil combustion (V-rich). The peak area of oxalate at the coastal site decreased immediately after sunrise, while it increased during the daytime at the suburban site. However, the oxalate peak area of Fe-rich particles at both sites decreased after sunrise, indicating that iron plays an important role in oxalate degradation in both environments. The decay rates (k) of Fe-rich and BB-Fe particles at the coastal site (−0.978 and −0.859 h−1, respectively), were greater than those at the suburban site (−0.512 and −0.178 h−1, respectively), owing to the high-water content of particles and fewer oxalate precursors. The estimated k values of oxalate peak area for different ambient conditions were in the same order of magnitude, which can help establish or validate the future atmospheric models. Context: Livestock grazing is one of the most widespread types of anthropogenic land use, even occurs in many protected areas and has become a threat to wildlife worldwide. Understanding livestock-wildlife interactions is crucial for rare large carnivores conservation. In China, free-ranging cattle within forests degrade the habitat of the tigers (Panthera tigris) and leopards (Panthera pardus), but quantitative assessments of how livestock affect the spatial and temporal use by the major ungulate prey of the two endangered felids are very limited. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the interactions of several sympatric wildlife species with livestock at a fine spatiotemporal scale in a human-dominated forest landscape. Methods: Based on a large-scale camera-trapping data across the China-Russia border, we used N-mixture models, two-species occupancy models and activity pattern overlap to understand the effects of cattle grazing on three ungulate species (sika deer Cervus nippon, wild boars Sus scrofa and roe deer Capreolus pygargus). Results: Spatially, with cattle activity increasing, wild boar and roe deer had different degrees of decline in the intensity of habitat use. Sika deer were displaced as more cattle encroached on forest habitat. Temporally, in the presence of cattle, wild boar and sika deer decreased their activities in the day. In addition, three wild ungulates trend to exhibit lower spatiotemporal overlap with cattle at shared camera sites. Conclusions: Our study shows that wildlife species may reduce the probability of habitat use by spatial avoidance and changing the daily activity patterns. We underscore that fine-scale (i.e. camera-site level) spatiotemporal avoidance is likely a key component of co-occurrence between livestock and the sympatry of competing ungulates inhabiting forest ecosystems. The North Chinese leopard (Panthera pardus japonensis), the least‐known big cat, disappeared in most historical range for decades, following the development of modern civilization. Unfortunately, we have scarce knowledge about the status of this big cat so far, apart from anecdotal reports. In this study, we investigated density, distribution, and habitat use of the leopard, the apex predator, in a complex forest landscape in the Loess Plateau. We used a camera‐trapping network to obtain population estimates for leopards over 2 years through spatially explicit capture–recapture models. Our results, based on maximum likelihood and Bayesian/MCMC methods, reveal that the largest wild population of the leopard was found widely distributed in remnant forests in central Loess plateau. The population is increasing in our study area, and the density of leopards (1.70 (SE = 0.48) − 2.40 (SE = 0.67)/100 km2) is higher than other areas of China. According to the analysis of 2 seasonal occupancy models, prey species drive partially the leopard habitat use, predicting that the big cat thrives from the recovery of prey community. However, human disturbances, especially oil wells, seem to have negative impacts on the habitat use of leopards. Specifically, it is necessary to have joint efforts by the government and researchers to improve human disturbances management and prey species population density, as well as strengthen the investment in research on the North Chinese leopard, which could all further strengthen protection ability and ensure the long‐term survival of this species. The endangered Amur tiger Panthera tigris altaica is confined primarily to a narrow area along the border with Russia in northeast China. Little is known about the foraging strategies of this small subpopulation in Hunchun Nature Reserve on the Chinese side of the border; at this location, the prey base and land use patterns are distinctly different from those in the larger population of the Sikhote-Alin Mountains of Russia. Using dietary analysis of scats and camera-trapping data from Hunchun Nature Reserve, we assessed spatiotemporal overlap of tigers and their prey and identified prey selection patterns to enhance understanding of the ecological requirements of tigers in northeast China. Results indicated that wild prey constituted 94.9% of the total biomass consumed by tigers; domestic livestock represented 5.1% of the diet. Two species, wild boar Sus scrofa and sika deer Cervus nippon, collectively represented 83% of the biomass consumed by tigers. Despite lower spatial overlap of tigers and wild boar compared to tigers and sika deer, tigers preferentially preyed on boar, likely facilitated by high temporal overlap in activity patterns. Tigers exhibit significant spatial overlap with sika deer, likely favoring a high level of tiger predation on this large-sized ungulate. However, tigers did not preferred roe deer Capreolus pygargus and showed a low spatial overlap with roe deer. Overall, our results suggest that tiger prey selection is determined by prey body size and also overlap in tiger and prey use of time or space. Also, we suggest that strategies designed to minimize livestock forays into forested lands may be important for decreasing the livestock depredation by tigers. This study offers a framework to simultaneously integrate food habit analysis with the distribution of predators and prey through time and space to provide a comprehensive understanding of foraging strategies of large carnivores. Introduction: China is responsible for more than 60% of global aquaculture production. As the frontiers of food production have expanded, the cultivation of marine organisms in coastal zones and the open ocean has grown rapidly. The dominant mariculture industry in China is suspended mariculture, which uses net cages, ropes, or other structures suspended in the water column to cultivate aquatic organisms. This systematic, quantitative review provides a clear and comprehensive account of research that has investigated the adverse impacts of suspended mariculture in China and reviews research that has applied Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) systems for mitigating impacts. This work builds on 218 peer reviewed papers that have been published in English-language journals. Outcomes: Eighteen impacts were identified, including chemical, ecological, physical, and socioeconomic impacts. Eighteen measures for improving suspended mariculture were recommended consisting of government department, farm management, and ecological engineering measures. IMTA was the most frequently recommended measure. The capabilities of IMTA for bioremediation and increased farm production were the most frequently studied advantages. Seven other benefits have been explored but remain understudied. The current challenges facing the expansion of commercial IMTA include limited use of new technology, limited skills development, decreasing production of low trophic-level species, biogeographic and temporal barriers, and negative system feedbacks. Conclusion: Despite challenges, implementing commercial IMTA is a promising measure for reducing the impacts of suspended mariculture because it presents a range of secondary benefits that can improve the overall sustainability of aquaculture in the coastal zone. We monitored the last remaining Asian elephant populations in China over the past decade. Using DNA tools and repeat genotyping, we estimated the population sizes from 654 dung samples collected from various areas. Combined with morphological individual identifications from over 6,300 elephant photographs taken in the wild, we estimated that the total Asian elephant population size in China is between 221 and 245. Population genetic structure and diversity were examined using a 556-bp fragment of mitochondrial DNA, and 24 unique haplotypes were detected from DNA analysis of 178 individuals. A phylogenetic analysis revealed two highly divergent clades of Asian elephants, α and β, present in Chinese populations. Four populations (Mengla, Shangyong, Mengyang, and Pu’Er) carried mtDNA from the α clade, and only one population (Nangunhe) carried mtDNA belonging to the β clade. Moreover, high genetic divergence was observed between the Nangunhe population and the other four populations; however, genetic diversity among the five populations was low, possibly due to limited gene flow because of habitat fragmentation. The expansion of rubber plantations, crop cultivation, and villages along rivers and roads had caused extensive degradation of natural forest in these areas. This had resulted in the loss and fragmentation of elephant habitats and had formed artificial barriers that inhibited elephant migration. Using Geographic Information System, Global Positioning System, and Remote Sensing technology, we found that the area occupied by rubber plantations, tea farms, and urban settlements had dramatically increased over the past 40 years, resulting in the loss and fragmentation of elephant habitats and forming artificial barriers that inhibit elephant migration. The restoration of ecological corridors to facilitate gene exchange among isolated elephant populations and the establishment of cross-boundary protected areas between China and Laos to secure their natural habitats are critical for the survival of Asian elephants in this region. Abstract: Background: Enoxaparin is a low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) indicated for antithrombosis. A branded formulation of subcutaneously administered enoxaparin has been available in China since 2000, and a generic formulation is being developed. In a literature search of the key term enoxaparin (publication years not restricted), no published data were identified regarding the pharmacokinetic profile of generic enoxaparin in Chinese subjects. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the bioequivalence of generic (test) and branded (reference) formulations of enoxaparin 60 mg (6000 IU anti-Xa) SC in healthy subjects for the purpose of meeting regulatory requirements for marketing the generic formulation in China. Methods: Healthy Chinese male volunteers were eligible for this single-dose, randomized-sequence, open-label, 2-period crossover study. Participants were randomly assigned to receive the test and reference formulations of enoxaparin 60 mg SC injection (fasting state) in randomized order, with the 2 study periods separated by a 1-week washout period. For the assessment of anti-Xa and anti-IIa activities (surrogates used to describe the pharmacokinetic properties and bioavailability of LMWH), heparin clotting assay, and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), blood samples were obtained before (hour 0; baseline) and at 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 24 hours after study drug administration. The 2 formulations were to be considered bioequivalent if the 90% CIs for the logarithm-transformed values of Cmax, Tmax, AUC0−t, and AUC0−∞ fell within the predetermined range of 80% to 125%. Tolerability was assessed by questioning subjects about symptoms of possible adverse events and using laboratory analysis (hematology, biochemistry, hepatic function tests, and urinalysis). Results: Twenty-two subjects participated in the study (mean [SD] age, 21.10 [1.02] years [range, 19–23 years]; weight, 64.07 [5.93] kg [range, 54–75 kg]; and height, 173 [5] cm [range, 163–187 cm]). For anti-Xa activity, the 90% CIs of Cmax, AUC0−t, and AUC0−∞ were 100.4% to 106.7%, 100.7% to 105.8%, and 100.7% to 106.1%, respectively. Corresponding values for anti-IIa activity were 85.0% to 102.4%, 80.4% to 94.8%, and 80.1% to 96.0%. For the hepa-rin clotting assay, the values were 97.4% to 102.4%, 98.2% to 102.4%, and 96.0% to 102.7%; and for aPTT, values were 98.2% to 104.3%, 97.4% to 101.6%, and 93.4% to 117.4%. No adverse events were reported during the study. Conclusions: Based on the 90% CIs of anti-Xa and anti-IIa activities, heparin clotting assay results, and aPTT in these healthy Chinese male subjects, the test and reference formulations of enoxaparin 60 mg SC met the regulatory requirements for bio-equivalence. Simple Summary: Abnormal coloration is very rare in any given population of wildlife; however, our research identified a yellow-throated marten population with a high ratio of this phenomenon for the first time. Across the main distribution of the species with relevant observational data, we observed abnormally-colored martens in only Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park. Abnormal coloration had a variety of forms and individuals with white paws that accounted for a larger proportion of the overall population than normal individuals. This shows heritable variation in the region, which is worthy of further research. Mammalian coat color is determined by heritable variations such as disease, nutrition, and hormone levels. Variation in animal coat color is also considered an environmental indicator and provides clues for the study of population genetics and biogeography. Records of abnormal coloration in the wild are rare, not only because it is often selected against, but also because of the difficulties in detection of the phenomenon. We used long-term camera-trapping data to first report abnormal coat coloration in yellow-throated marten (Martes flavigula) in China. Six types of abnormal coloration were found only in the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park, Northeast China, which were not reported in other regions in China. A total of 268 videos of Martes flavigula contained normal coloration, 455 videos of individuals of the species contained abnormal coloration, 437 contained the 'gloving' type (martens with de-pigmented front toes, paws or lower forelimbs), while the remaining other 18 videos contained five types (different degrees of white-spotting and dilution). The higher relative abundance index (0.428, 'gloving' to 0.329, normal) and wide distribution area of the 'gloving' type indicated that this abnormal coat coloration type is usual in Northeast China, which may reflect genetic variability in the local population. In the present study, the complete mitochondrial genome ofCapricornissp., possible a new species of Serow from Guizhou province of China, was sequenced for the first time. Political borders and natural boundaries of wildlife populations seldom coincide, often to the detriment of conservation objectives. Transnational monitoring of endangered carnivores is rare, but is necessary for accurate population monitoring and coordinated conservation policies. We investigate the benefits of collaboratively monitoring the abundance and survival of the critically endangered Amur leopard, which occurs as a single transboundary population across China and Russia. Country‐specific results overestimated abundance and were generally less precise compared to integrated monitoring estimates; the global population was similar in both years: 84 (70–108, 95% confidence interval). Uncertainty in country‐specific annual survival estimates were approximately twice the integrated estimates of 0.82 (0.69–0.91, 95% confidence limits). This collaborative effort provided a better understanding of Amur leopard population dynamics, represented a first step in building trust, and lead to cooperative agreements to coordinate conservation policies. The article offers information on the long-distance dispersal of Amur tiger Panthera tigris altaica wherein the Chinese government proposed a habitat expansion to establish the North-East China/Russian Tiger Landscape. Topics include the features of the proposed landscape, management of camera-trap studies of tigers in monitoring their long-distance dispersal, and findings of the monitoring to identify necessary improvements of the landscapes.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of folate receptor-mediated tumor detection (FRD) for identifying high-grade intraepithelial squamous lesions (HSIL) in the triage of women who are positive for human papillomavirus (HPV), and those with cytology findings of atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS).Method: A secondary analysis of prospectively collected data from 1504 women who had abnormal results during primary cervical cancer screening at 13 hospitals in Beijing, China, between November 2014 and August 2015. The detection accuracy of FRD was evaluated among HPV-positive women and women with ASCUS referred for colposcopy examination.Results: Among 1338 women with HPV, the percentage coincidence with pathology findings was higher for FRD (66.7%) than for cytology of ASCUS or higher (51.5%). The rate of colposcopy referral for cytology and FRD as a triage tool was 969 (72.4%) and 736 (55.0%), respectively. Thus, 233 (17.4%) fewer women would be referred for colposcopy by FRD. Among 476 women with cytology of ASCUS, the percentage coincidence with pathology findings was higher for FRD (63.4%) than for HPV (35.9%).Conclusion: FRD was found to be a promising triage tool for women who are HPV-positive and those with cytology findings of ASCUS. Forest understory vegetation plays an important role in providing food, nutrition and habitat for wildlife. The impact of wildlife foraging on forest understory biomass are often subtle processes that are difficult to capture using traditional field measurements. Field measurements are labor-intensive and impractical to cover and detect understory biomass changes at an extensive range with fine spatial resolution, thereby affecting the accuracy of habitat quality and food availability assessment for wildlife. Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) is considered to have potential to improve the accuracy of understory biomass prediction, allowing for detailed monitoring of biomass changes under the influence of wildlife at fine scale. In this study, we first developed an efficient method to predict forest understory biomass by using variables from TLS with regression models, and second, we compared the prediction accuracy between TLS-based variables and field-measured variables. Third, the optimal models with TLS-based variables were applied to map and quantify the effect of herbivores density on understory biomass in temperate forests in northeastern China. Our results demonstrated that TLS-derived data were more accurate than field measurements in predicting understory biomass, that TLS-derived canopy cover yielded the highest herb layer biomass estimation accuracy (R2 = 0.72, RMSE = 12.73 g/m2), and that TLS-derived vegetation volume obtained the highest accuracy assessment for the shrub layer biomass prediction (R2 = 0.69, RMSE = 43.64 g/m2). There was a significant difference in the understory herb layer biomass in different deer-density plots, but no significant difference in shrub layer biomass. To quantify biomass changes in different plots, consistent monitoring method is needed, TLS data demonstrated the potential to capture and accurately quantify the biomass variation from forest understory. As tool for monitoring understory, TLS can be used as a supplementary to traditional understory monitoring methods to guide forest management policies and wildlife conservation strategies. Objectives: Recently studies demonstrated that adipose tissue can produce and release complement C3 and serum complement C3 levels were associated with diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Thus, we plan to investigate the association of complement C3 levels and the presence of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD)., Design: Observational study with a cross-sectional sample., Setting: This study surveyed 4729 participants in Zhejiang province, China., Participants: 55 participants were excluded for acute infection and 1001 participants were excluded for lack of ultrasonography diagnoses and complete or partial absence of laboratory tests. The final sample size was 3673 participants., Outcome Measures: Spearman correlation analysis was used to examine the correlations between complement C3 levels and variables. Binary logistic regression was carried out to evaluate the association between complement C3 levels and the presence of MAFLD after adjustment for demographic and biochemical variables. Mediation effects were used to explore whether insulin resistance (IR), hyperlipidaemia and obesity mediated the association between complement C3 and MAFLD., Results: Participants with MAFLD had higher complement C3 levels and complement C3 levels were closely associated with body mass index, waist circumference, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase and homoeostasis model assessment (HOMA)-IR. The presence of MAFLD increased with the increase of complement C3 levels and the presence of MAFLD were highest in the HOMA-IR ≥2.5 participants. We found the OR and Cl of standardised C3 for MAFLD was 1.333 (1.185-1.500), each 1 SD increase in C3 would increase the presence of MAFLD by 33.3%, and obesity partly mediated the effect of complement C3 on the presence of MAFLD., Conclusions: The present results suggest that complement C3 can be used as a risk factor for the presence of MAFLD after adjustment for confounding variables and obesity may partly mediate the effect of complement C3 on the presence of MAFLD., Competing Interests: Competing interests: None declared., (© Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2021. Study Objective: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of the combination of bipolar radiofrequency impedance-controlled endometrial ablation (NovaSure; Hologic Inc., Bedford, MA) and levonorgestrel intrauterine system (LNG-IUS; Mirena; Schering AG, Berlin, Germany) placement in comparison with NovaSure endometrial ablation alone in patients with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB)., Design: A propensity score matching study., Setting: Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China., Patients: A retrospective study was conducted on 246 patients with AUB who underwent NovaSure endometrial ablation with (NovaSure+LNG-IUS group) or without (NovaSure group) LNG-IUS between January 2013 and August 2016. To overcome selection bias, propensity score matching was used to establish a 1:1 match between these 2 groups. Accordingly, 41 patients were included in each group., Intervention: NovaSure endometrial ablation, immediately followed by LNG-IUS insertion in the NovaSure+LNG-IUS group, and NovaSure endometrial ablation alone in the control group., Measurements and Main Results: Follow-up assessments performed at postablation months 6, 12, and 24 revealed the following: The rate of amenorrhea (78.05% vs 46.34%, 85.37% vs 53.65%, and 87.80% vs 58.54%, respectively; p <.005) and the rate of dysmenorrhea remission (100% vs 70.59%, 100% vs 64.70%, and 100% vs 64.70% [p <.05, p <.01, and p <.01], respectively) were significantly higher in the NovaSure+LNG-IUS group than in the NovaSure group. The rate of reinterventions was similar for both groups at postablation month 6. However, at postablation months 12 and 24, these rates were significantly lower in the NovaSure+LNG-IUS group than in the NovaSure group (0 vs 14.63% and 2.44% vs 21.95% [p <.05 and p <.01], respectively)., Conclusion: For women with AUB, the combination of NovaSure endometrial ablation and LNG-IUS is more effective than NovaSure alone in achieving amenorrhea, alleviating dysmenorrhea and reducing reinterventions., (Copyright © 2019 AAGL. Study Objective: To evaluate the feasibility, effectiveness, and reproductive outcome of hysteroscopic management using the Hysteroscopy Endo Operative system (HEOS) in patients with diffuse uterine leiomyomatosis (DUL)., Design: Retrospective study (Canadian Task Force classification III)., Setting: Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China., Patients: Eight women of reproductive age suffering from menorrhagia and anemia or infertility diagnosed with DUL by ultrasonography and hysteroscopy., Interventions: Hysteroscopic surgery using cold graspers combined with electric loop by the HEOS was performed to excise submucous myomas (including types 0, I, and II), leaving other intramural myomas in place. The fenestration method is used in electrical hysteroscopic myomectomy. Postoperative endometrial repair and synechiae, menstrual improvement, conception, and pregnancy were recorded., Measurements and Main Results: Two patients underwent a single hysteroscopic myomectomy, whereas 6 patients underwent 2 to 3 myomectomies. No complications were observed. The mean follow-up period was 39.13 ± 17.01 months (range, 21-67). The endometrium recovered 2 to 3 months after the initial surgery, and 100% improvement in menstruation was observed. Two patients had mild synechia after the first hysteroscopic surgery. Seven patients conceived spontaneously (postoperative pregnancy rate, 87.5%), 6 of whom had a full-term pregnancy. One patient suffered a miscarriage in the second trimester (live birth rate, 75%)., Conclusion: Hysteroscopic surgery using cold graspers combined with electric loop by the HEOS is a feasible and effective for treatment of DUL because it preserves the uterus and yields favorable reproductive outcomes. The cold surgery and fenestration method minimizes electrical and thermal damage to the endometrium surrounding the myoma, consequently reducing surgical risks., (Copyright © 2018 AAGL. Background: Reference intervals (RIs) of Apo E levels are an important parameter for the clinical evaluation of patient health, and the RIs of serum Apo E could be variable in different population. We plan to establish RIs of apolipoprotein E (Apo E) according to the CLSI EP28-A3 guideline in healthy Chinese Han adults., Methods: Serum Apo E values of 1,206 healthy adults (from 19 to 87 years old) were measured by immunoturbidimetry. The relationship between Apo E and age was analyzed by using Spearman's correlation. The differences between the gender and age groups were compared using Mann-Whitney U test/Kruskal-Wallis H test. We calculated recommended nonparametric Q2.5 and Q97.5 percentile intervals and the 90% confidence intervals (CI) of lower and upper limits to define the age- and gender- related RIs., Results: The level of Apo E was higher in females than males. Apo E was significantly associated with aging in adult females (r = 0.108, p < 0.05), but not in males (p = 0.518). The RIs of Apo E for females were 0.0268 - 0.0619, 0.0247 - 0.0603, and 0.0269 - 0.0658 g/L for 18 - 29, 30 - 59, and ≥ 60 years old, respectively, that for males was 0.0242 - 0.0579 g/L., Conclusions: Our results established the age- and gender-specific RIs of serum Apo E in healthy Chinese Han adults in our laboratory.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the performance of a folate receptor-mediated tumor detection (FRD) assay for detection of cervical high-grade lesions., Materials and Method: A total of 1504 patients with abnormal cytology and/or positive human papillomavirus (HPV) testing during primary screening from November 2014 to August 2015 were enrolled. The patients were recruited from the Peking University People's Hospital and 12 other hospitals. Folate receptor-mediated tumor detection was applied in all the patients before colposcopy to compare the detection rate, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and coincidence rate with HPV and cytology tests according to the pathologic diagnosis., Results: In the total of 1504 patients, 503 patients were negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy, 440 patients were cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 1, 254 patients were CIN 2, 257 patients were CIN 3, 46 patients were squamous cell carcinoma, and 4 patients were adenocarcinoma in situ. The sensitivity of FRD was 77.72%, which was less than cytology (80.39%) and HPV testing (95.54%). The specificity of FRD was 60.02%, which was greater than cytology (30.12%) and HPV testing (14.95%). The coincidence rate of FRD to the pathologic diagnosis (66.62%) was also significantly greater than atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance cytology and above (48.87%) and HPV testing (45.01%, p < .0001). The detection rate of FRD for all grades of lesions increased with the severity of lesions., Conclusions: Folate receptor-mediated tumor detection has a slightly lower sensitivity and a higher specificity than cytology and HPV testing for detection of CIN 2+. Simplicity of FRD requires less professional skill. Folate receptor-mediated tumor detection could be a candidate test for cervical cancer screening especially in low- and middle-income countries. However, FRD still needs more clinical trial data to demonstrate its ability in general screening population.

We analyzed the scats of Amur tigers and Amur leopards, and examined their annual and seasonal food habits in Northeast China to comprehend their coexistence. Wild boar had the highest annual and seasonal consumption frequencies by the tigers, while both roe deer and sika deer were mostly preyed by the leopards annually. The three species appeared to be the key preys in terms of high proportion of consumed biomass by the two felids. Our data also revealed numerous mid-sized carnivores and small mammals included in the two felids' food list. We used the relative abundance and biomass density estimation in prey density estimation to calculate the prey preferences of tigers and leopards, and both methods confirmed that Amur tigers strongly preferred wild boar. However, preference estimations of Amur leopards were not consistant, or even opposite to one another from the two methods. The results of the study suggested that prey preference of predators is largely determined by body size of the prey species. Variation in diet composition of the two felids suggests that resource partitioning may contribute to their coexistence.

Objective: Infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains a major cause of liver cirrhosis (LC) in China. Recent reports suggest that the lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) is a potential biomarker for predicting clinical outcomes. In our study, we investigated if LMR can be used as a prognostic marker of mortality in patients with HBV-related LC., Design: A retrospective cohort study., Setting: HBV-infected patients with LC and patients with chronic hepatitis B infection (CHB) from the Department of Infectious Disease were enrolled and 240 healthy individuals were recruited from the healthcare centre at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University., Participants: 479 HBV-infected patients with LC, 134 patients with CHB and 240 healthy individuals were enrolled., Primary and Secondary Outcome Measures: The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and multivariable logistic regression analysis after adjusting for total protein, albumin, total bilirubin and the model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score were used to evaluate the power of LMR for predicting 1 year mortality in patients with LC., Results: The LMR was statistically lower in patients with LC. The MELD score and mortality were statistically higher in patients with LC compared with the CHB and control groups. The area under the ROC curve, cut-off values, sensitivity and specificity of LMR for predicting mortality LC in the training cohort were 0.817 (95% CI 0.746 to 0.888; p<0.001), 2.10, 82.6 and 78.8%, and these data were confirmed in the validation cohort. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that LMR was an independent predictive factor of mortality in LC (OR 2.370, 95% CI (1.070 to 5.249); p=0.033)., Conclusions: Our results strongly suggest that low LMR can be considered as an independent biomarker for predicting mortality in patients with LC., (Published by the BMJ Publishing Group Limited.
