Moss‐inhabiting flea beetles form a very diverse and understudied ecological group of leaf beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) characterized by cryptic lifestyle, loss of flight ability and feeding on mosses as both adults and larvae. We present the first DNA‐based study of the phylogenetic position of moss‐inhabiting flea beetle genera Ivalia Jacoby and Cangshanaltica Konstantinov et al., based on sequences of two mitochondrial and three nuclear genes. We confirm that both genera are members of the monophyletic Chabria group, along with Chabria Jacoby, Parathrylea Duvivier, Chabriosoma Chen and Sutrea Baly. Moss‐inhabiting species form at least three independent lineages within the Chabria group, indicating multiple parallel origin of the association with mosses within the clade. We reveal the monophyly of Cangshanaltica and confirm its separate generic status from Ivalia. Ivalia is revealed as polyphyletic, consisting of at least two unrelated moss‐inhabiting lineages. In contrast, the externally similar moss‐ and leaf‐litter inhabiting genera Mniophila Stephens, Adamastoraltica Biondi et al. and Clavicornaltica Scherer are not closely related to the Chabria group. Our study specifically focused on the moss‐inhabiting flea beetles of Taiwan. We reveal that the Taiwanese fauna is a result of four independent colonizations of the island: one from China (Cangshanaltica) and three from the Philippines (three lineages morphologically assigned to Ivalia). Two of these lineages (Cangshanaltica and the core Ivalia) radiated in Taiwan and gave rise to the majority of modern Taiwanese species. The article describes and illustrates the first Oriental species Hemisphaera orientalis of the water scavenger beetle genus Hemisphaera (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae: Chaetarthriini), from Guangxi, China. It notes that the species is the seventh known of the genus, and the first record of the genus in the Oriental Region. It cites three species from the western Palearctic Region, two from the Afrotropical region, and one species from Socotra Island between Palearctic and Afrotropical regions.

A revision of the Mesozoic fossils belonging to the helophorid lineage of the superfamily Hydrophiloidea is performed and an adapted classifi cation is suggested based on the phylogenetic analysis combining modern and fossil taxa of the lineage. Three genera are revealed as basal extinct Mesozoic clades of the helophorid lineage: Hydrophilopsia Ponomarenko, 1987, Laetopsia gen. nov. (adult forms) and Cretotaenia Ponomarenko, 1977 (larval form). Mesosperchus Ponomarenko, 1977 stat. nov. is resurrected from synonymy with Zetemenos Bode, 1953 and established as a formal subgenus of Helophorus Fabricius, 1775 containing probable stem taxa of that genus. Mesohelophorus Ponomarenko, 1977, stat. nov., is downgraded to a subgenus of Helophorus. Two new species are described: Helophorus (Mesosperchus) inceptivus sp. nov. (Sharteg, Mongolia, late Jurassic) and H. (M.) yixianus sp. nov. (Yixian Formation, China, Jurassic- Cretaceous boundary). Mesohelophorus elongatus Ponomarenko, 1990, syn. nov., is synonymised with Mesosperchus tarsalis Ponomarenko, 1977. The latter species and Hydrophilopsia gracilis Prokin, Ren & Fikáček, 2010 are transferred to Helophorus (Mesosperchus), resulting in the following new combinations:Helophorus (Mesosperchus) tarsalis (Ponomarenko, 1977), comb. nov. and H. (M.) gracilis (Prokin, Ren & Fikáček, 2010), comb. nov. Mesohelophorus sibiricus Ponomarenko, 1977 is transferred to Helophorus (Mesohelophorus) and the resulting secondary homonymy with Helophorus sibiricus (Motschulsky, 1860) is removed by proposing a new substitute name Helophorus palaeosibiricus nom. nov. for the former taxon. Hydrophilopsia baissensis Ponomarenko, 1987, H. bontsaganica Prokin, 2009, H. hydraenoides Prokin, Ren & Fikáček, 2010, H. mongolica Ponomarenko, 1987 and H. shatrovskiyi Prokin, Ren & Fikáček, 2010 are transferred to Laetopsia gen. nov. The inclusion of the fossil taxa into the helophorid lineage of the Hydrophiloidea made the slight adaptation of the diagnosis of the genus Helophorus necessary. Six fossil species included previously into the genera Helophorus, Mesosperchus and Mesohelophorus are excluded from the helophorid lineage: Mesosperchus notatus Ponomarenko, 1977, and M. schultzi Ponomarenko, 1985 (both transferred to Polyphaga incertae sedis), Mesohelophorus mongolicus Ponomarenko, 1986 (transferred to Buprestoidea), Mesosperchus angulatus Ponomarenko, 1985 (confi rmed as not belonging to the Hydrophiloidea), Tychon antiquum (Giebel, 1856) (confi rmed as Coleoptera incertae sedis) and Helophoropsis brodiei (Giebel, 1856) (transferred to Coleoptera incertae sedis). Moss-inhabiting flea beetles form a diversified ecological group of beetles with a number of recently described new species. Here, we present an overview of known species of the moss-inhabiting flea beetle genus Cangshanaltica Konstantinov, Chamorro, Prathapan, Ge & Yang, 2013 which is distributed in Eastern and South-Eastern Asia. We describe three new species: Cangshanaltica guanxiensis sp. nov. from Guanxi, China, C. marginata sp. nov. from Yunnan, China, and C. javana sp. nov., from Java, Indonesia. Additionally, we redescribe Cangshanaltica castanea (Gruev, 1985) comb. nov., a species formerly placed in Ivalia. Based on our studies of the morphological characters, we assume that some of the currently recognized species may in fact represent species complexes. Our findings also extend the known distribution of Cangshanaltica to Indonesia. A key of all described Cangshanaltica species, and an annotated checklist are provided.

Two new species of Cercyon Leach, 1817 are described from China: Cercyon (s.str.) bellus sp. nov. from Hebei, Hubei, and Jiangxi Provinces, and Cercyon (s.str.) biltoni sp. nov. from Sichuan. Five species are recorded from China for the first time: Cercyon (Acycreon) punctiger Knisch, 1921, Cercyon (Paracercyon) analis Seidlitz, 1888, Cercyon (s.str.) algarum Sharp, 1973, Cercyon (s.str.) borealis Baranowski, 1985, Cercyon (s.str.) tristis (Illiger, 1801). Additional faunistic data from China are provided for Cercyon (s.str.) alinae Ryndevich, 2004, Cercyon (s.str.) inquinatus Wollaston, 1854, Cercyon (s.str.) kabaki Ryndevich, 2004, Cercyon (s.str.) olibrus Sharp, 1874, Cercyon (s.str.) ovillus Motschulsky, 1860, Cercyon (Clinocercyon) incretus d'Orchymont, 1941, Cercyon (Clinocercyon) hanseni Jia, Fikáček Ryndevich, 2011 and Cercyon (Paracercyon) honorabilis Shatrovskiy, 1999. A checklist to all species of the genus known from China is provided.
