The Panxi area in Sichuan Province is the main area for the production of truffles in China, and several species of truffle are known to exist in this region. Nevertheless, it is unclear what the differences in chemical composition between the truffles are. Using an ultra‐high‐performance liquid chromatography quadrupole/orbitrap high‐resolution mass spectrometry coupled with Compound Discoverer 3.0, we identified chemical components in three mainly known truffles from the Panxi region. Further analysis of chemical composition differences was conducted using principal component analysis, and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis. Note that, 78.9% of the variance was uncovered by the principal component analysis model. As a result of the orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis model, the three species of truffles (Tuber pesudohimalayense, Tuber indicum, and Tuber sinense) from Panxi were better discriminated, with R2X, R2Y, and Q2 being 0.821, 0.993, and 0.947, respectively. In this study, 87 components were identified. T. pesudohimalayense contained significantly higher levels of nine different compounds than the other two species. Hence, it was possible to identify similarities and differences between three species of truffles from Panxi in terms of chemical composition. This can be used as a basis for quality control. Chlrosulfuron, a classical sulfonylurea herbicide that exhibits good safety for wheat but causes a certain degree of damage to subsequent corn in a wheat–corn rotation mode, has been suspended field application in China since 2014. Our previous study found that diethylamino-substituted chlorsulfuron derivatives accelerated the degradation rate in soil. In order to obtain sulfonylurea herbicides with good crop safety for both wheat and corn, while maintaining high herbicidal activities, a series of pyrimidine- and triazine-based diethylamino-substituted chlorsulfuron derivatives (W102–W111) were systematically evaluated. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed with 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and HRMS. The preliminary biological assay results indicate that the 4,6-disubstituted pyrimidine and triazine derivatives could maintain high herbicidal activity. It was found that the synthesized compounds could accelerate degradation rates, both in acidic and alkaline soil. Especially, in alkaline soil, the degradation rate of the target compounds accelerated more than 22-fold compared to chlorsulfuron. Moreover, most chlorsulfuron analogs exhibited good crop safety for both wheat and corn at high dosages. Two previously undescribed sesquiterpenes along with nine known compounds were isolated from the fermentation broth of Aspergillus fumigatus, an endophyte of Ligusticum wallichii. Their structures were elucidated through extensive spectroscopic analysis combined with quantum chemical ECD calculations. A detailed chemical investigation of two specimen of South China Sea sponges Halichondria sp. (No. 19-XD-47 and No. 17-XD-87) have resulted in the isolation of three new sterols, namely, halichsterols A (1), B (2) and C (3), together with seven related known ones (4–10). Their structures were determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis and by comparison with the spectral data reported in the literature. One new highly degraded steroid, namely 21-nor-4-ene-chaxine A (1) furnishing a 5/6/5-tricyclic, along with one known related analogue (2), were isolated from the South China Sea sponge Spongia officinalis. Their structures including absolute configurations were established by extensive spectroscopic data analysis, TDDFT-ECD calculation, and comparison with the spectral data previously reported in the literature. Compound 1 represent the new member of incisterols family with a highly degradation in ring B. Fifteen new diterpenoids, namely xishaklyanes A-O ( 1 - 15 ), along with three known related ones ( 16 - 18 ), were isolated from the soft coral Klyxum molle collected from Xisha Islands, South China Sea. The stereochemistry of the new compounds was elucidated by a combination of detailed spectroscopic analyses, chemical derivatization, quantum chemical calculations, and comparison with the reported data. The absolute configuration of compound 18 was established by the modified Mosher's method for the first time. In bioassay, some of these compounds exhibited considerable antibacterial activities on fish pathogenic bacteria, and compound 4 showed the most effective activity with MIC of 0.225 μg/mL against Lactococcus garvieae .

Marine organisms often produce a variety of metabolites with unique structures and diverse biological activities that enable them to survive and struggle in the extremely challenging environment. During the last two decades, our group devoted great effort to the discovery of pharmaceutically interesting lead compounds from South China Sea marine plants and invertebrates. We discovered numerous marine secondary metabolites spanning a wide range of structural classes, various biosynthetic origins and various aspects of biological activities. In a series of reviews, we have summarized the bioactive natural products isolated from Chinese marine flora and fauna found during 2000-2012. The present review provides an updated summary covering our latest research progress and development in the last decade (2012-2022) highlighting the discovery of over 400 novel marine secondary metabolites with promising bioactivities from South China Sea marine organisms., (© 2022. Two new C29 steroids, xidaosterols A ( 1 ) and B ( 2 ), characterised by a common unusual α -keto-enol functionality bearing A-ring, together with three related known ones ( 3 - 5 ), were isolated from the South China Sea sponge Neopetrosia chaliniformis . Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses and comparison with the spectral data reported in the literature, Xidaosterol B is an A -nor derivative of 1 .

In this study, eight natural isocoumarins ( 1 - 8 ) were isolated from a marine-derived Exserohilum sp. fungus. To explore their structure-activity relationship and discover potent antimalarial leads, a small library of 22 new derivatives ( 1a - 1n , 2a , 3a - 3c , 4a - 4c , and 7a ) were semisynthesized by varying the substituents of the aromatic ring and the aliphatic side chains. The natural compound ( 1 ) and three semisynthetic derivatives ( 1d , 1n , and 2a ), possessing an all- cis stereochemistry, exhibited strong antiplasmodial activity with IC 50 values of 1.1, 0.8, 0.4, and 2.6 μM, respectively. Mechanism studies show that 1n inhibits hemozoin polymerization and decreases the mitochondrial membrane potential but also inhibits P. falciparum DNA gyrase. 1n not only combines different mechanisms of action but also exhibits a high therapeutic index (CC 50 /IC 50 = 675), high selectivity, and a notable drug-like profile.

Two new steroidal alkaloids (1-2), together with seven known related steroidal alkaloids (3-9), were isolated from the rhizomes of Veratrum nigrum L. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis, and by comparison with literature data. Compound 1 possessed a rare 1, 3-oxazolidine unit within varazine-type alkaloids, and 2 was a 9-hydroxy-4-one derivative of 3-veratroylgermine. All isolates were evaluated inhibit tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) activity. Compounds 5 and 7 (40 μg/mL) showed a significant anti-TYLCV activity in the host Nicotiana benthamiana with inhibition rates 74.6% and 63.4%, respectively, which are higher than that of the positive control ningnanmycin (51.4%)., (Copyright © 2020. Two new steroids, (22R,23S)-3β-hydroxy-23-methyl-17,20-epoxyergost-5-en-22-yl acetate and (22R,23S)-5-hydroperoxy-23-methyl-5α-17,20-epoxyergost-6-ene-3β,22-diol, were isolated from the South China Sea soft coral Lobophytum sp., together with two related known ones. The structures of all compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and by comparing their spectral data with those previously reported. The structure of (22R,23S)-3β-hydroxy-23-methyl-17,20-epoxyergost-5-en-22-yl acetate was further confirmed through chemical correlation. All the isolates were evaluated for the in vitro inhibitory activity against NF-κB, a potential target for the treatment of cancer, and (22R,23S)-5-hydroperoxy-23-methyl-5α-17,20-epoxyergost-6-ene-3β,22-diol exhibited moderate inhibition activity with IC 50 value of 8.96 μg/mL., (© 2020 Wiley-VHCA AG, Zurich, Switzerland.)

Two new eicosanoids with a unique isovalerianic acid ester group at C-12, named dichotellates A (1) and B (2), were isolated from the gorgonian Dichotella gemmacea collected from the South China Sea using bioassay-guided fractionation. Their structures were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis including one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) NMR as well as high-resolution ESI-MS experiments. These two compounds were evaluated for their lethal activity toward brine shrimp Artemia salina and both showed weak activity.
