The origin of propylitic fluids in intermediate sulfidation mineralization has not been investigated in detail. Here, we present an extensive petrographic, geochemical, and isotopic (O-H-Sr) study of propylitic epidote, chlorite, and calcite from the Zhengguang intermediate sulfidation epithermal Au-Zn deposit, NE China. Propylitic minerals can be divided into three main types based on their different textural occurrences, namely interstitial cement of clasts of hydrothermal breccia, replacement of primary plagioclase or hornblende, and vein infill of cracks, with late, minor calcite as amygdules in vesicles of andesite representing a fourth textural occurrence. The H-O isotope compositions and mass balance calculations suggest that most propylitic epidote records a dominant (> 50%) contribution of magmatic fluids. The decrease of the average δ18 O H 2 O values equilibrated with different types of epidote (cement 6.8 ± 0.7‰, replacement 5.1 ± 1.1‰, vein 4.5 ± 1.4‰, 1 SD), and the decreasing content of high-temperature elements (e.g., Cu-Mo) from cement, through replacement to vein epidote and chlorite, collectively indicates a decreasing role of magmatic fluids. Replacement epidote and chlorite are enriched in Sr-Mn-Y-Sb, whereas replacement epidote and calcite record similar (87Sr/86Sr)i values to the andesitic host rock, suggesting that replacement minerals inherit certain elements from plagioclase and hornblende, and the Sr isotope signature of the wall rocks. We highlight that propylitic alteration in epithermal deposits can involve significant proportions of magmatic fluids and texturally different alteration mineral types should be considered when using mineral isotopic or chemical compositions to track fluid sources or to vector towards the location of intrusive centers. Searching for life is one of the most important targets of Mars exploration missions. It has been considered that the Martian subsurface, away from the extreme surface environment, is a potentially habitable region for microbial growth. However, the distribution pattern of potential microbial habitats in the Martian subsurface has yet to be evaluated. Here, we investigate the subsurface habitats to depths of 20–60 cm from various landscapes, including slopes, gullies, channels, playas, and alluvial fans across the Mars-analog Qaidam Basin, NW China. We characterize subsurface niches by measuring microbial biomass and radiocarbon ages, and correlate them with soil properties including depth, moisture content, total organic carbon content, electric conductivity, pH, evaporite and clay mineral contents. We find more habitable niches for microbial colonization at depths of 5–25 cm as compared with the surface and deep subsurface across the hyperarid Qaidam Basin. Maximum biomass and biotic activity could be correlated with physical stability, limited radiation, and short-term moderate water availability in the shallow subsurface in hyperarid deserts. Background: Evidence on outcomes of catheter ablation (CA) for atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with autoimmune disease (AD) is limited. Hypothesis: Patients with AD had worse outcomes after CA procedures for AF. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed in patients undergoing AF ablation between 2012 and 2021. The risk of recurrence after ablation was investigated in patients with AD and a 1:4 propensity score matched non‐AD group. Results: We identified 107 patients with AD (64 ± 10 years, female 48.6%) who were matched with 428 non‐AD patients (65 ± 10 years, female 43.9%). Patients with AD exhibited more severe AF‐related symptoms. During the index procedure, a higher proportion of AD patients received nonpulmonary vein trigger ablation (18.7% vs. 8.4%, p = 0.002). Over a median follow‐up of 36.3 months, patients with AD experienced a similar risk of recurrence with the non‐AD group (41.1% vs. 36.2%, p = 0.21, hazard ratio [HR]: 1.23, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.86–1.76) despite a higher incidence of early recurrences (36.4% vs. 13.5%, p = 0.001). Compared with non‐AD patients, patients with connective tissue disease were at an increased risk of recurrence (46.3% vs. 36.2%, p = 0.049, HR: 1.43, 95% CI: 1.00–2.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that the duration of AF history and corticosteroid therapy were independent predictors of postablation recurrence in patients with AD. Conclusions: In patients with AD, the risk of recurrence after ablation for AF during the follow‐up was comparable with non‐AD patients, but a higher risk of early recurrence was observed. Common carp are among the oldest domesticated fish in the world. As such, there are many food and ornamental carp strains with abundant phenotypic variations due to natural and artificial selection. Hebao red carp (HB, Cyprinus carpio wuyuanensis), an indigenous strain in China, is renowned for its unique body morphology and reddish skin. To reveal the genetic basis underlying the distinct skin color of HB, we constructed an improved highfidelity (HiFi) HB genome with good contiguity, completeness, and correctness. Genome structure comparison was conducted between HB and a representative wild strain, Yellow River carp (YR, C. carpio haematopterus), to identify structural variants and genes under positive selection. Signatures of artificial selection during domestication were identified in HB and YR populations, while phenotype mapping was performed in a segregating population generated by HB×YR crosses. Body color in HB was associated with regions with fixed mutations. The simultaneous mutation and superposition of a pair of homologous genes (mitfa) in chromosomes A06 and B06 conferred the reddish color in domesticated HB. Transcriptome analysis of common carp with different alleles of the mitfa mutation confirmed that gene duplication can buffer the deleterious effects of mutation in allotetraploids. In northwest China, underground mining is frequently conducted in weakly cemented rock environments, including the aquiclude that protects the aquifer from dewatering. In this context, understanding the aquiclude responses to longwall mining is significant for assessing the reliability of water-conserved mining in the weakly cemented rock environment. Taking the Jurassic and Paleogene coal measure geology in Yili Mine in Xinjiang Province, China, as a case study, the paper conducted a laboratorial three-dimensional simulation by configuring a longwall operation and induced groundwater migration. The study analysed the aquiclude depressurisation and revealed the aquiclude stability in response to longwall mining. The results indicated that the aquiclude had a significant plastic strain and self-healing ability in the ground depressurisation condition. The aquiclude experienced tension and then compression, and, accordingly, fracture initiation, propagation, and convergence, during which the aquiclude had significant bending deformation. On the aquiclude horizon, tensile fracturing dominated above the set-up and longwall stop positions. The self-healing behaviour was correlated to the high content of clay minerals and disintegration proneness. The simulation results had a good agreement with field measurements, suggesting that the aquiclude had a satisfactory water-resisting ability and that the simulation results were practically reliable. Objective: This study analysed the relationships between the main thromboelastography (TEG) parameters, the platelet (PLT) count and clinical bleeding in patients with blood diseases. We explored the threshold of the relevant parameters in the pathological condition of bleeding, aiming to scientifically guide clinical prophylactic PLT transfusion. Methods: In total, 268 patients with clear diagnoses of blood diseases and thrombocytopenia were enrolled and divided into five groups, A, B, C, D and E, corresponding to PLT counts of 0–10 × 109/L, 11–20 × 109/L, 21–30 × 109/L, 31–50 × 109/L and 51–100 × 109/L, respectively. TEG and routine blood testing were performed simultaneously, the main TEG parameters and the PLT count were analysed, and the thresholds of the main TEG parameters in each group when the patient had bleeding were obtained. Results: The maximum amplitude (MA) in groups A, B and C increased gradually, with a significant difference between each pair of these groups (P < 0.05). In groups A, B, C, D and E, the corresponding MA at the time of bleeding was 43.5 mm, 39.6 mm, 38.0 mm, 35.2 mm and 50.5 mm, respectively, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The MA can be used as a reference indicator for preventive PLT transfusion to a certain extent. When the PLT count is within different ranges, the MA threshold for preventive PLT transfusion also differs. The universities' scientific and technological activities have become the key link of science and technology and economy, and the core of promoting the national innovation capability and competitiveness. To achieve high-quality development of China's science and technology, it is of great significance to measure the efficiency of universities' scientific and technological activities accurately and explore their regional differences. Based on the innovation value chain, we construct a two-stage efficiency measure index system of universities' scientific and technological activity, and then according to the universities' statistical data in China from 2010 to 2017, by taking provincial universities as the research object, we exploit a two-stage network DEA model with shared input to measure the provincial efficiency of universities' scientific and technological activities in China; what is more, we explore the provincial differences in efficiency of universities' scientific and technological activities. Finally, we extract the influencing factors on the efficiency of universities' scientific and technological activities using the dynamic panel data model. The results show that there are serious problems in the transformation between knowledge output and results in the universities' scientific and technological activities. The scientific and technological activities of regional universities in China are not balanced. For provincial universities' efficiency of scientific and technological activities, there exist great differences among different time and space, stages, and resource utilization modes. Migratory birds play an important role in the spread of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. To investigate the prevalence of MDR Escherichia coli in migratory birds in China and potential relationships with the environment, a total of 1387 samples (fecal samples, cloacal swabs, or throat swabs) were collected from migratory birds from three different river basins in China. The collected samples were processed and subjected to bacteriological examinations. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing of the recovered isolates was performed using the E-test for the detection of minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs). Some antibiotic resistance genes were detected and the PCR products were confirmed by sequencing. In total, 478 (34.7%) E. coli isolates were recovered. The results showed that the drug-resistant E. coli isolates were highly resistant to β-lactams (43.7%) and tetracycline (22.6%), and 73 (15.3%) were MDR, including eight that were extended spectrum β-lactamase-positive. The retrieved strains harbored the blaCTX-M, blaTEM-1, tet(A), tet(B), tet(M), sul1, sul2, sul3, cmlA, floR, and intI1 genes with a prevalence of 5.9%, 36.4%, 80.5%, 11.9%, 6.8%, 6.8%, 47.5%, 12.7%, 50.8%, 37.3%, and 61.0%, respectively. The drug resistance rate of the isolates from southern China was higher than those from northern China. The E. coli samples collected for migratory birds in the Pearl River Basin had the highest proportion (46.7%) MDR isolates. Furthermore, MDR bacteria carried by migratory birds were closely related to the antibiotic content in the basin, which confirms that MDR bacteria carried by migratory birds are likely acquired from the environment. This study also confirmed that migratory birds are potential transmitters of MDR bacteria, demonstrating the need to reduce the use and emission of antibiotics and further in-depth studies on the mechanisms underlying drug resistance of bacteria. Objective: To investigate theoptimal idarucizumab (dabigatran antagonist) usage strategy for patients with acute pericardial tamponade receiving uninterrupted dabigatran during catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods: Ten patients presenting acute pericardial tamponade while receiving uninterrupted dabigatran during catheter ablation for AF in Beijing Anzhen Hospital from January 2019 to July 2020 were enrolled and retrospectively analyzed. A "wait and see" strategy of idarucizumab was carried out for all patients; in brief, idarucizumab was applied following pericardiocentesis, comprehensive evaluation of bleeding and hemostasis. Results: There were five males, five paroxysmal AF, and the average age of the patients was 64.0 ± 9.8 years. Among the 10 patients, four were treated with dabigatran 110 mg, six were treated with dabigatran 150 mg, and one was simultaneously given clopidogrel. The average time from pericardial tamponade to the last dose of dabigatran was 8.2 ± 3.4 h. All patients underwent pericardiocentesis successfully, and the average drainage volume was 322.5 ml (220.0 ± 935.0 ml). For reversal anticoagulation, six patients received protamine, and five patients received idarucizumab. Of the five patients who were treated with idarucizumab, four presented exact hemostasis, except for one patient who underwent continuous drainage and finally received surgery repair. The average time to restart anticoagulation was 1.1 ± 0.3 days after the procedure, and no rebleeding, embolism or deaths were observed. It is well known that innovation-driven emerging industries have gradually become the main driving force of global economic recovery and growth. Technological innovation decision-making is a complex and dynamic system, which is affected by various factors inside and outside an enterprise. In this dynamic system, how to make the optimal technological innovation investment decisions is a key concern for enterprises and governments. As an investment activity, technological innovation largely depends on the amount of external financing obtained by enterprises. However, financial constraints have increasingly become an obstacle to enterprises' technological innovation. At the same time, technological innovation is also affected by the external political and economic environment, such as changes in economic policy, government subsidy policies, and institutional environmental policies. Can these external environments reduce the negative impact of financing constraints on technological innovation? In this study, based on the data of listed companies in China's strategic emerging industries, we adopt a panel negative binomial regression model to investigate the complexity of technological innovation decision-making from the perspective of financing constraints. Our main findings include the following. First, financing constraints significantly inhibit the input and output of technological innovation in emerging industries. Second, the inhibition effect on the output of substantive innovations is more pronounced than that on the output of strategic innovations. Third, based on the analysis of enterprise heterogeneity in different dimensions, we show that this inhibition has a selective effect among different industries. Since the financial system has illustrated an increasingly prominent characteristic of inextricable connections, information theory is gradually utilized to study the financial system. By collecting the daily data of industry index (2005-2020) and region index (2012-2020) listed in China as samples, this paper applies an innovative measure named partial mutual information on mixed embedding to generate directed networks. Based on the analysis of nonlinear relationships among sectors, this paper realizes the accurate construction of "time-varying" financial network from the perspective of risk spillover. The results are presented as follow: (1) interactions can be better understood through the nonlinear networks among distinct sectors, and sectors in the networks could be classified into different types according to their topological properties connected to risk spillover; (2) in the rising stage, information is transmitted rapidly in the network, so the risk is fast diffused and absorbed; (3) in the declining stage, the network topology is more complex and panic sentiments have long term impact leading to more connections; (4) The US market, Japan market and Hongkong market have significant affect on China's market. Climate change is endangering the soil carbon stock of alpine grasslands on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP), but the limited comprehension regarding the mechanisms that sustain carbon storage under hydrothermal changes increases the uncertainty associated with this finding. Here, we examined the relative abundance of soil microbial keystone taxa and their functional potentials, as well as their influence on soil carbon storage with increased precipitation across alpine grasslands on the QTP, China. The findings indicate that alterations in precipitation significantly decreased the relative abundance of the carbon degradation potentials of keystone taxa, such as chemoheterotrophs. The inclusion of keystone taxa and their internal functional potentials in the two best alternative models explained 70% and 63% of the variance in soil organic carbon (SOC) density, respectively. Moreover, we found that changes in chemoheterotrophs had negative effects on SOC density as indicated by a structural equation model, suggesting that some specialized functional potentials of keystone taxa are not conducive to the accumulation of carbon sink. Our study offers valuable insights into the intricate correlation between precipitation-induced alterations in soil microbial keystone taxa and SOC storage, highlighting a rough categorization is difficult to distinguish the hidden threats and the importance of incorporating functional potentials in SOC storage prediction models in response to changing climate. Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common in abdominal solid organ transplant recipients and a cause of morbidity and mortality in this population. However, the outcomes of catheter ablation (CA) in transplant recipients with AF remain unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the outcomes of CA in renal and hepatic transplant recipients. Methods and Results: Between 2015 and 2019, 14 transplant recipients (nine with kidney transplantation and five with liver transplantation) were enrolled from among 10,741 AF patients and underwent CA at Anzhen Hospital. Another 56 patients matched by age, sex, and AF type were selected as the control group (four controls for each transplant recipient). During a mean follow‐up of 30.0 ± 13.3 months after the initial procedure, 10 (71.4%) of the transplant patients, compared to 41 (73.2%) of the control patients, remained free from AF recurrence (p = 1.000). A repeated procedure was performed in one transplant patient and in six control subjects. Consequently, 11 (78.6%) of the transplant patients, compared to 46 (82.1%) of controls, were in sinus rhythm after the repeated ablation (p =.715). Notably, Kaplan–Meier analysis did not demonstrate any significant differences in the atrial arrhythmia‐free rate after the initial and repeated procedure between the two groups. Vascular complications were identified in one transplant patient and two control subjects, while no life‐threatening complications were observed in either group. There was no transient allograft dysfunction in transplant recipients after CA. Aims: We aimed to investigate the safety of discontinuing oral anticoagulation (OAC) therapy after apparently successful atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation, using data from the Chinese Atrial Fibrillation Registry study.Methods and Results: We identified 4512 consecutive patients who underwent successful AF ablation between August 2011 and December 2017. Of them, 3149 discontinued OAC 3 months post-ablation (Off-OAC group) and 1363 continued OAC beyond this period (On-OAC group). Regular follow-up examinations were undertaken to detect AF recurrence, monitor OAC therapy, and measure clinical outcomes. Primary outcomes included thromboembolic and major bleeding (MB) events experienced beyond 3 months after ablation. Low thromboembolic and MB event rates were noted in the on-treatment analysis. The incidence rates for thromboembolism were 0.54 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.39-0.76] and 0.86 (95% CI 0.56-1.30) per 100 patient-years, and that for MB events were 0.19 (95% CI 0.11-0.34) and 0.35 (95% CI 0.18-0.67) per 100 patient-years, for the Off-OAC and On-OAC groups over mean follow-up periods of 24.2 ± 14.7 and 23.0 ± 13.6 months, respectively. Similar results were observed in the intention-to-treat analysis. Previous history of ischaemic stroke (IS)/transient ischaemic attack (TIA)/systemic embolism (SE) [hazard ratio (HR) 3.40, 95% CI 1.92-6.02; P < 0.01] and diabetes mellitus (HR 2.06, 95% CI 1.20-3.55, P = 0.01) were independently associated with thromboembolic events, while OAC discontinuation (HR 0.71, 95% CI 0.41-1.23, P = 0.21) remained insignificant in multivariable analysis.Conclusions: This study suggests that it may be safe to discontinue OAC in post-ablation patients under diligent monitoring, in the absence of AF recurrence, history of IS/TIA/SE, and diabetes mellitus. Objective: To investigate the feasibility and safety of wire‐guided pericardial access without contrast. Methods: From January 2014 to February 2019, patients who received epicardial mapping and ablation of ventricular tachycardia in the Beijing Anzhen Hospital were entered into the current study. They were divided into contrast‐guided access group or wire‐guided access group according to the pericardial puncture technique used. The baseline variables, procedure parameters, complications were collected and compared. Results: During the study period, a consecutive of 73 patients received epicardial access. The initial 32 patients received contrast‐guided puncture with success achieved in 30 patients, the remaining 41 patients underwent wire‐guided puncture with success achieved in 40 patients (30/32 and 40/41, P =.581). Fluoroscopy time (4.45 ± 0.52 and 4.38 ± 0.46 minutes, P =.891) and access time (5.14 ± 0.58 and 5.34 ± 0.50 minutes, P =.657) were comparable between the two groups. Inadvertent right ventricular puncture occurred more commonly in the contrast‐guided group (5/32 and 1/41, P =.038). Though more pericardial effusions (2/32 and 1/41, P =.575), tamponade (2/32 and 1/41, P =.575), and surgical repair (1/32 and 0/41, P =.432) occurred in the contrast‐guided group, they reached no statistical difference. Background: Data on management of maternal arrhythmia among Chinese were limited. Radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) proved to be a reliable treatment choice for sustained tachyarrhythmia but it has rarely been performed during pregnancy due to radiation exposure. Objective: To investigate the incidence of idiopathic sustained maternal arrhythmia and the feasibility of RFCA in the pregnant patients without fluoroscopy. Methods: From January of 2015 to December of 2018, the medical records on pregnancy‐related admissions in Beijing Anzhen Hospital (Beijing, China) were retrospectively analyzed. Patients who had sustained tachyarrhythmia episodes without structural heart disease were identified. Catheter ablation was performed in those with drug resistant and severely frequent tachyarrhythmia under the guidance of electroanatomical mapping system and intracardiac echocardiography catheter (ICE), if appropriate. Results: During the study period, 12 584 consecutive pregnant women were admitted for pregnancy‐related reasons, 156 (1.2%) of them were identified as sustained maternal tachyarrhythmia. Twenty‐eight patients (age 21‐37 years) received catheter ablation because the arrhythmias were drug resistant and severely frequent. The RFCA was successfully performed in all patients with zero fluoroscopy after 72.4 ± 24.7 min. Transseptal puncture was performed in 11 patients under the guidance of ICE. In a median of 37 (interquartile range [IQR]: 34‐39) weeks' pregnancy, 28 healthy fetuses were delivered. No cardiac‐related adverse event occurred during delivery. During later follow‐up, all patients were free of arrhythmia, and all the infants were well developed. Conclusion: Sustained maternal tachyarrhythmia is not uncommon in the clinical practice. To those with drug resistant and severely frequent arrhythmia, RFCA with zero fluoroscopy could be safely performed with acceptable efficacy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Groundwater pollution is controlled by many anthropogenic processes, and source apportionment is particularly difficult in cases with multiple superimposed anthropogenic influences. Forty-three shallow groundwater samples in the Hun River alluvial fan were collected and 15 parameters comprising Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe2+, Mn2+, NH4+, NO3−, NO2−, F−, SO42−, PO43−, Cl−, COD, TDS, CN− and HCO3− were studied using principal component analysis (PCA) and factor analysis (FA), coupled with the absolute principal-component-score multiple-linear-regression (APCS-MLR) receptor model. The relationship among land-use types, hydrochemical composition and change of the groundwater quality from natural and anthropogenic sources was demonstrated. The results show that the four major potential pollution sources were water–rock interaction, agricultural fertilizer pollution, geological background and domestic and industrial wastewater; the contribution was 36.4%, 24.1%, 14.7% and 11.8%, respectively. The high-concentration areas were mainly located in the western and northwestern areas, especially in the downstream portion of the Hun River. Rapid economic development and the acceleration of urbanization led to an increase in industrial sewage effluent with complex and changeable composition. The variation of land-use type and evolution of the spatial distribution of the pollution sources in the groundwater show good consistency, which demonstrate that PCA/FA coupled with APCS-MLR is a versatile tool for comprehensive source apportionment of groundwater. Aim: The factors driving microbial community β‐diversity (variation in composition) at different spatial scales yield fundamental insights into the mechanisms that maintain ecosystem biodiversity, which as yet are uncertain. Here, we explore whether spatial scale‐dependent patterns of β‐diversity vary between microbial functional groups and bacterial taxa (i.e., diazotrophic and bacterial communities) across local to regional scales (from metres to hundreds of kilometres). Location: Eastern China. Time period: October and November 2015. Major taxa studied: Diazotrophic and bacterial communities. Methods: We use two complementary statistical tools to unveil biotic mechanisms (i.e., species association) underlying variation in β‐diversity of diazotrophic and bacterial communities. We examined distance–decay slopes of both communities at the local (1–113 m), meso‐ (3.4–39 km) and regional (103–668 km) scales. We used an environmentally constrained checkerboard score and topological features of association networks as indices of species association. We then calculated contributions of species association, abiotic factors and geographical distance to explain community β‐diversity. The scale‐dependent distance–decay relationships were also examined in ubiquitous (high occupancy across samples) and endemic communities of diazotrophs and bacteria. Results: Diazotrophs displayed steeper distance–decay slopes than bacteria, suggesting that the β‐diversity of diazotrophic communities was more variable. The distance–decay slopes were dependent on spatial scales in both communities, owing to different contributions of geographical distance, abiotic factors and species association at three spatial scales. Intriguingly, species association was greater and contributed more to community β‐diversity than other forces at the local scale, implying that species association could greatly alter community structures. Main conclusions: Drivers of diazotrophic and bacterial community β‐diversity depended on spatial scales, resulting in different distance–decay patterns. Moreover, this was the first study to use two methods to demonstrate that species association played important, but as yet unrecognized, roles in driving spatial scale‐dependent β‐diversity. Background For repeat treatment with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) recurrence, gap-closure at pulmonary vein ostia alone is not enough. Many recent studies indicated that ganglionated plexi (GPs) denervation could reduce the recurrence of AF. However, it is unclear whether the clinical outcomes of additional GP ablation plus pulmonary veins (PVs ) reisolation during a repeat procedure were associated with less recurrence in PAF patients. The purpose of this study was to evaluate if a repeat procedure of GP ablation (GPA) combining repeated procedure of pulmonary vein isolation (re-PVI), i.e., gap-closure, can offer additional benefit for patients with PAF recurrence. Method A total of 123 consecutive patients with PAF recurrence who underwent success repeat procedures were retrospectively analyzed in our center (2014-2015). Note that 64 patients (group 1, GPA group) were performed with GPA plus re-PVI, while 59 patients (group 2, re-PVI group) had re-PVI (gap-closure) alone. Organized atrial tachycardias (OATs) documented or induced at the end of the procedure were all mapped and ablated. Patients were scheduled for a 12-month follow-up. Clinical presentation and outcome data for the two groups were assessed. Result At the 12-month follow-up 58 of 64 patients (90.6%) in group 1 and 46 of 59 patients (78%) in group 2 remained in sinus rhythm (SR) off antiarrhythmia drugs (AADs) (P = 0.045). Conclusion GPA conferred incremental benefit when performed in addition to re-PVI in patients with PAF recurrence; the GPA group yielded higher success rates than the re-PVI group. Pouched Mitral Isthmus and Ablation Block Background Previous studies have described the impact of mitral isthmus (MI) anatomy on the likelihood of achieving MI linear block in patients with native mitral valves (NMV) who underwent atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation. However, none have investigated that issue in AF patients with mechanical mitral valve replacements (MMVR). Methods and Results Twenty-nine consecutive patients who developed symptomatic persistent AF post-MMVR and referred for ablation were enrolled. Twenty-nine patients with NMV who underwent ablation of persistent AF during the same period were matched. With preprocedural cardiac computed tomographic imaging, MI anatomical features of all the participants were analyzed. Pouched MI was observed in 19 (65.5%) MMVR patients versus to 6 (20.7%) controls (P = 0.001). Bidirectional linear block across MI was achieved in 21 (72.4%) MMVR patients and 22 (75.9%) in the controls (P = 0.764). In the multivariable analysis, pouched MI was an independent predictor of incomplete MI block. Alcohol acetyltransferase ( AATase), which is mainly encoded by ATF 1, is one of the most important enzymes for acetate ester synthesis. On the other hand, isoamyl acetate is degraded into a higher alcohol under the catalysis of IAH 1-encoded esterase. In this study, Chinese Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used as the parent strain to construct an ATF 1 overexpression and IAH1 disruption mutant. The results show that after 5 days of pre-fermentation, the concentrations of ethyl acetate, isoamyl acetate and isobutyl acetate in the yellow rice wines fermented with EY1 ( pUC-PIAK) increased to 468.94 mg L−1 (which is approximately 22-fold higher than that of the parent cell RY1), 99.86 and 7.69 mg L−1 respectively. Meanwhile, isoamyl alcohol production was reduced to 56.37 mg L−1 (which is approximately 50% of that produced by the parent strain RY1). Therefore, ATF1 overexpression and IAH1 disruption can significantly increase acetate esters contents and reduce isoamyl alcohol content in Chinese yellow rice wine, thereby paving the way for breeding an excellent yeast strain for high-quality Chinese yellow rice wine production. In China, “green” integrated waste management methods are being implemented in response to environmental concerns. We measured the air quality at several municipal solid waste (MSW) sites to provide information for the incorporation of logistics facilities within the current integrated waste management system. We monitored ambient air quality at eight MSW collecting stations, five transfer stations, one composting plant, and five disposal sites in Beijing during April 2006. Composite air samples were collected and analyzed for levels of odor, ammonia (NH3), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), total suspended particles (TSPs), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). The results of our atmospheric monitoring demonstrated that although CO and SO2 were within acceptable emission levels according to ambient standards, levels of H2S, TSP, and NO2 in the ambient air at most MSW logistics facilities far exceeded ambient limits established for China. The primary pollutants in the ambient air at Beijing MSW logistics facilities were H2S, TSPs, NO2, and odor. OBJECTIVES: Since the introduction of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatology (ERCP) in clinical use, pancreatitis has become a common complication of ERCP. Octreotide is an inhibitor of pancreatic enzyme secretions. Several studies have evaluated the effect of octreotide on the incidence of clinical pancreatitis after ERCP, but with different results. The aim was to determine the efficacy of prophylactic administration of octreotide for the prevention of post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP) and hyperamylasemia. METHODS: In this study, patients with scheduled ERCP were randomized to receive either octreotide (0.3 mg) via intramuscular injection or a placebo. The study was conducted in 12 digestive endoscopic units in China. Patients were randomized into two groups: an octreotide group (N = 414) and a control group (N = 418). In the octreotide group, octreotide (0.3 mg) was dissolved in 500 mL of 0.9% saline solution and administered by continuous intravenous infusion, beginning 1 h before endoscopic examination and continued for 6 h thereafter; 0.1 mg of octreotide was injected subcutaneously at 6 and 12 h after the intravenous injection was stopped. The control group was given a placebo intravenously. The end point was the development of acute pancreatitis. RESULTS: The overall incidence of acute pancreatitis was 3.85%; this included 2.42% (10/414) in the octreotide group and 5.26% (22/418) in the control group ( P= 0.046). The overall incidence of hyperamylasemia was 14.9%; 12.32% (51/414) in the octreotide group and 17.46% (73/418) in the control group ( P= 0.041). No side effects were found. This paper presented the characteristics of nitrogen and phosphorus pollution in Beijing surface water during the survey. A significant difference was found out in concentration distribution of various parameters of nitrogen and phosphorus. Most water bodies in five water systems were polluted by total nitrogen with the content even up to 120 mg/L which was higher than exceeded the fifth class standard of national surface water quality standard GB3838-2002 except for several segments of Chaobaihe and Yongdinghe. Ammonia and phosphorus showed a similar tendency of distribution with higher content in Daqinghe, Beiyunhe and Jiyunhe water systems, but with relatively low concentrations in Chaobaihe and Yongdinghe water systems. Meanwhile, nitrate was found at comparatively low content (mostly less than 10 mg/L) and could fit for corresponding water quality requirements. Totally, the water quality of Daqinghe, Jiyunhe and Beiyunhe river systems as well as the lower reaches of Yongdinghe and Chaobaihe was contaminated seriously with high content of total nitrogen and phosphorus. Through multivariate statistical approaches, it can be concluded that total nitrogen, ammonia and total phosphorus was highly correlated to chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand, dissolved oxygen and electrical conductivity, which explained the same pollution source from anthropogenic activities. • Proteobacteria was the predominant phylum in groundwater at the petrochemical site. • The concentration of TPH (C10-C40) was negatively correlated with the α-diversity of microbial communities in groundwater. • A staggering 80% of anaerobic benzene-degrading Metagenome-Assembled Genomes (MAGs) were taxonomically unclassified. • Aerobic degradation of benzene predominantly occurred through monooxygenation in groundwater. • Deep sequencing and high-quality MAGs provide a high-resolution approach to groundwater monitoring. The rapid advance in shotgun metagenome sequencing has enabled us to identify uncultivated functional microorganisms in polluted environments. While aerobic petrochemical-degrading pathways have been extensively studied, the anaerobic mechanisms remain less explored. Here, we conducted a study at a petrochemical-polluted groundwater site in Henan Province, Central China. A total of twelve groundwater monitoring wells were installed to collect groundwater samples. Benzene appeared to be the predominant pollutant, detected in 10 out of 12 samples, with concentrations ranging from 1.4 μg/L to 5,280 μg/L. Due to the low aquifer permeability, pollutant migration occurred slowly, resulting in relatively low benzene concentrations downstream within the heavily polluted area. Deep metagenome sequencing revealed Proteobacteria as the dominant phylum, accounting for over 63 % of total abundances. Microbial α- diversity was low in heavily polluted samples, with community compositions substantially differing from those in lightly polluted samples. dmpK encoding the phenol/toluene 2-monooxygenase was detected across all samples, while the dioxygenase bedC1 was not detected, suggesting that aerobic benzene degradation might occur through monooxygenation. Sequence assembly and binning yielded 350 high-quality metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs), with 30 MAGs harboring functional genes associated with aerobic or anaerobic benzene degradation. About 80 % of MAGs harboring functional genes associated with anaerobic benzene degradation remained taxonomically unclassified at the genus level, suggesting that our current database coverage of anaerobic benzene-degrading microorganisms is very limited. Furthermore, two genes integral to anaerobic benzene metabolism, i.e, benzoyl-CoA reductase (bamB) and glutaryl-CoA dehydrogenase (acd), were not annotated by metagenome functional analyses but were identified within the MAGs, signifying the importance of integrating both contig-based and MAG-based approaches. Together, our efforts of functional annotation and metagenome binning generate a robust blueprint of microbial functional potentials in petrochemical-polluted groundwater, which is crucial for designing proficient bioremediation strategies. This paper presents new zircon U-Pb ages and whole-rock geochemical data for Triassic granitoids in the Duobaoshan ore field, in the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). Dating results reveal that the Triassic granitoids in the Duobaoshan ore field were emplaced ca. 244–223 Ma. These samples are typical subduction-related arc magmatic rocks that are enriched with large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs), depleted in high field strength elements (HFSEs), and have relatively high Sr (average 1036 ppm) and low Y (average 10 ppm) and Yb (average 1 ppm) contents that exhibit adakite-like geochemical properties. The samples feature a juvenile whole rock average initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.70394 and an average ɛ Nd (t), zircon ɛ Hf (t), and two-stage Hf model age of 4.62, 10.29, and 766 Ma respectively. These geochemical features reveal a thickened lower crust source. Comprehensive analyses of the early Paleozoic, Triassic, and early Jurassic granitoids in the Duobaoshan ore field indicate that the magmatism of these three stages was related to the melting of the juvenile lower continental crust materials. The early Paleozoic was the primary period of vertical crust growth, during which time the juvenile lower continental crust was formed. The Triassic granitoids derived from magma were generated by partial melting of the thickened juvenile lower crust and the Jurassic granitoids derived from the partial melting of the delaminated juvenile lower crust. Geological observation and tectonic setting analyses reveal that the Paleo-Asian Ocean tectonic regime in the Duobaoshan ore field switched to the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean in the Mesozoic after its closure. The early Paleozoic granitoids were formed in a subduction setting related to the northwestward subducted Paleo-Asian Oceanic slab underlying the Erguna-Xing'an composite block. The Triassic granitoids were formed under a supra-subduction extensional regime related to the southward subduction of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean, and the Jurassic granitoids were generated under a slab rollback setting related to the late stage subduction of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean. Enterovirus A71 (EVA71) and Coxsackievirus A16 (CVA16) are regarded as the two major causative pathogens in hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) epidemics. However, CVA6, previously largely ignored, became the predominant pathogen in China in 2013. In this study, we describe the epidemiological trendsofCVA6 during the annual HFMD outbreaks from 2008 to 2013 in Guangdong, China. The study results show that CVA6 has been one of three major causative agents of HFMD epidemics since 2009. The periodic rotation and dominance of the three pathogens, EVA71, CVA16 and CVA6, may have contributed to the continuously increasing HFMD epidemics. Moreover, phylogenetic analysis of the VP1 gene shows that major circulating CVA6 strains collected from 2009 to 2013 are distinct from the earlier strains collected before 2009. In conclusion, the discovery from this research investigating epidemiological trends of CVA6 from 2008 to 2013 explains the possible pattern of the continuous HFMD epidemic in China. Abstract: The Ganqinfen system – a process of manually cleaning animal feces by means of a shovel – is a widely used manure separating method in Chinese pig farms. Ganqinfen pig feces and chopped corn stalks were mixed at the ratio of 7:1, and composted in 1.5m3 rotting boxes for 70d. Evolution of CH4, N2O and NH3 during composting, and the effects of turning and covering, were studied in this research. Results showed that 20–39% and 0.5–4% of total nitrogen were lost in the form of NH3 and N2O respectively, and 0.1–0.9% of initial organic carbon was emitted as CH4. Turning enhanced air exchange in the piles, thus decreasing CH4 emission by 83–93% and shortening the maturing period. When trials were finished, all non-turned piles were separated to three layers by moisture content. This structure caused the N2O losses of non-turning treatments to be 6–12.7times higher than that of turning treatments. Covering materials reduced air exchange at the surface of the pile, thus decreasing the O2 supply and consequently increasing CH4 production by 33–45%. Covering also reduced NH3 emission by 4–34%. For the composting of Ganqinfen pig feces, we suggest that a program of turning twice weekly without covering will result in compost that is sufficiently matured after 6wk with the lowest resultant greenhouse gas emission. The appinite suite of rocks offers a unique opportunity to reveal the properties of subarc lithospheric mantle, indicate essential crust-mantle interactions, and ascertain critical geodynamic settings. In this study, we present zircon U–Pb ages, Hf–O isotopes, and whole-rock geochemical data for the newly identified Duobaoshan appinite-granite suite in the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). Field and petrographic investigations show that this suite of rocks is composed of hornblende gabbro, quartz monzonite, and granite porphyry. The appinites are abnormally hornblende-rich, and contain spectacular hornblende phenocrysts, pegmatitic textures, and miarolitic cavity structures that indicate an anomalous water-rich origin. The quartz monzonite and granite porphyry show intrusive contact relations with the appinites. Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) zircon dating reveals that the Duobaoshan appinite-granite suite was emplaced in a very short time interval of 224–223 Ma. These samples show typical subduction related arc magmatic geochemical characteristics that are enriched in large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs) and light rare earth elements (REEs), depleted in high field strength elements (HFSEs) and middle and heavy REEs. All samples exhibit comparative total REEs and no significant evolutionary relationships. The appinites show high Sr/Y ratios (reaching ~100) and positive or zero Eu anomalies, which reveal amphibole fractionation promotion and plagioclase fractionation suppression in a water-rich magma system. The quartz monzonite possesses high Sr/Y and La/Yb ratios that exhibit adakite-like properties and were derived from thickened lower continental crust. The granite porphyry is silica-rich and non-adakitic. All samples have juvenile whole-rock initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (~0.7038) and ɛ Nd (t) values. Zircons have depleted mantle-like ɛ Hf (t) (to +12.0) and δ18O (~ + 5.65‰) values. Combining these geochemical features with observations of the regional geology and tectonic setting, we propose that the Duobaoshan appinite-granite suite was generated under a Triassic back-arc extensional setting related to the southward subduction of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean. The appinites were derived from an unusual water-rich mantle source, which was previously metasomatized by slab-derived fluids. To reveal the hydrothermal evolution from porphyry Mo to vein-style Zn-Pb mineralization, the Chalukou deposit in NE China with these two typical mineralization overprinted is selected for detailed research. From early to late hydrothermal veins, the quartz cathodoluminescence intensities change from bright to dark and the textures also evolve. The Ti concentrations of quartz in these veins change from high to moderate and then to low values. The fluid inclusion petrography, microthermometry and stable isotope analyses indicate intermediate-density magma-derived fluids (δ18Owater = +4.7 to + 6.2‰, δD = −132 to −136‰) exsolved at high temperatures (560° to 600 °C) with low to moderate salinity (2.4 to 8.0 wt% NaCl equiv) containing minor CO 2 (<5.7 mol %). Early minor molybdenite occurred under lithostatic conditions at high temperatures (540° to 580 °C) during fluids pH change and early magnetite precipitation. Later main molybdenite precipitation at moderate temperatures (350° to 430 °C), result from fluid cooling and involving of meteoric water under the transition from lithostatic to hydrostatic conditions. The precipitation of pyrite in transitional veins at moderate temperatures (330° to 420 °C), and the late sphalerite-galena from a lower-temperature fluid (180° to 300 °C) is consistent with the cooling of magmatic fluid, and gradually dilution with meteoric water under hydrostatic conditions. It is deduced the transition from porphyry Mo to vein-style Zn-Pb mineralization is likely driven by progressive decrease in temperature of the magmatic fluids and the increasing influx of meteoric water. • A novel grouting-based bolting technique with lower labor intensity and higher improvement was developed. • The roof is identified as the primary focus of pre-reinforcement for gateroad suffered from front abutment pressure (GFAP). • The application of the grouting-based bolting technique can significantly improve the roadway retaining effect. Longwall roadway suffered from mining-induced abutment pressure caused by the consequent large roof movement is a major concern in underground mining. In this study, a novel grouting-based bolting technique was put forward for Headgate 1404# of Xintian Coal Mine, China. Compared with the traditional support methods of single prop and hydraulic support, the proposed method has the advantages of low labor intensity and high improvement of surrounding rock. The field investigation on the effect of mining-induced abutment pressure on the roadway and calibrated numerical models on parameter verification are the key technical design of the proposed grouting-based bolting method. The field investigation showed that in the range of 0–30 m from the faceline, roof-to-floor convergence and roof fracture of the roadway were significant, which affected the stability of the roadway. In our designed scheme, grouting anchor cable was employed for roof pre-reinforcement through grouting the cement and sodium silicate into the roof; the grouting depth was 8 m, and the grouting position was 30 m ahead of the mining operation. The reliability of this scheme was verified by the comparison of stress field, skin convergence, rock fracture and grouting diffusion via the numerical simulation. The simulation results show that after applying grouting-based bolting, the range of maximum principal stress reduction, deformation and the fractured zone around the roadway is smaller than that of the traditional single support. Compared with the traditional method, the convergence of roof-to-floor and rib-to-rib after the implementation of the proposed method decreases by 64.5 % and 82.0 %, and the fracture depth of the roof and ribs decreases by 66.4 % and 38.2 %, respectively. The proposed grouting-based rock bolting significantly improves the resistibility of roadway surrounding rock to the mining-induced abutment pressure, which is beneficial for roadway retaining after mining. Abstract To constrain the pre-mineralization tectonic evolutionary history and the nature of the magma source of the Chalukou Mo deposit, which is located on the western margin of the Xing'an block, we recognized and studied a period of Neoproterozoic magmatism and a suite of Early Paleozoic volcanic rocks in this ore district. The magmatic zircons of quartz chlorite schist collected from the Wolegen Group yielded a concordant 206Pb/238U age of 685.1 ± 4.5 Ma (MSWD = 0.21), and they show very high εHf(t) values (+15.5 to +17.3) and young Hf modal ages (573–664 Ma) close to the formation age, indicating that the protolith was generated during the Neoproterozoic, and was most likely derived from a depleted mantle region. This Neoproterozoic magmatism might represent an important crustal growth event within the Xing'an Block. The host wallrocks in the Chalukou deposit mainly consist of rhyolite, dacite, andesite and volcanic tuff which have undergone slight deformation and metamorphism. The results of zircon LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating indicated that they were generated during 472–475 Ma. The results of whole-rock geochemical analysis indicate that they have arc-affinity features characterized by LREE enrichment with moderate to strong fractionation between LREE and HREE (La N /Yb N = 7.7–13.6), intense negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.36–0.71), pronounced positive Ba, Th, U, Pb and La anomalies and negative Nb-Ta, P and Ti anomalies. Hf isotopes show various εHf (t) values ranging from −2.0 to +5.9 and slightly old two-stage model ages ranging from 1070 Ma to 1573 Ma. Combined with discrimination diagrams, these data indicate that they were derived from the partial melting of a slightly older lower crust with the addition of a juvenile crust component in an active continental margin setting related to the subduction of the Paleo-Asian Ocean between the Xing'an and Songliao blocks. The existence of Neoproterozoic magmatic activity and Mesoproterozoic lower crustal materials obtained from the Hf model ages of the Paleozoic volcanic rocks in the Chalukou ore district demonstrated that Precambrian basement exists in the Xing'an Block, but its distribution area may be limited. As the largest porphyry Mo deposit in China, the ore-forming materials might have multiple sources, considering the long-term and multiple magmatic events that occurred under different tectonic settings in the ore district. The previous modification and refertilization of the lower crust and/or lithospheric mantle by the subduction of the Paleo-Asian Ocean might be important in the generation of the fertile lower crust, which is the direct source of the ore-related porphyries. Background Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with increased incidence of cardiovascular disease, and hence, statin therapy is indicated in majority of AF patients. Methods and results We analyzed data from the Chinese Atrial Fibrillation Registry (CAFR) involving 11,496 AF patients from 2011 to 2014. Practice patterns of statin therapy and factors associated with statin underuse were analyzed. Based on the 2013 ACC/AHA cholesterol management guidelines, statins should be recommended for 67.4% (7720/11,461) of AF participants in CAFR, but only 43.4% (3352/7720) with appropriate indications were taking statins. Statin underuse in AF patients was independently associated with male sex, tertiary hospital treatment, outpatient attendance, and absence of ‘high risk’ cardiovascular risk factors (overweight, diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke/transient ischemic attack/peripheral embolism and hypertension). Conclusions A high proportion of Chinese AF patients had indications for statin therapy. Evidence-based statin prescribing was suboptimal in this population. The Chalukou porphyry Mo deposit (2.46 Mt @ 0.087% Mo), located in the northern Great Xing'an Range, NE China, is the largest Mo deposit discovered in China so far. The host rocks consist of aplite porphyry, granite porphyry and quartz porphyry, and are intruded into Lower Ordovician intermediate-felsic volcanic-sedimentary rocks and pre-ore monzogranite and are cut by post-ore feldspar porphyry, diorite porphyry and quartz monzonite porphyry. Here, we present the zircon U-Pb ages, whole-rock geochemistry, Sr-Nd isotopic and zircon Hf isotopic data for the pre-ore, syn-ore and post-ore intrusive rocks. The Chalukou ore-forming porphyries intruded during 147-148 Ma and have high-silica, alkali-rich, metaluminous to slightly peraluminous compositions and are oxidized. They are enriched in large ion lithophile elements (e.g. K, Rb, U and Th), light REE and depleted in high-field strength elements (e.g. Nb, P and Ti). Depletions in Eu, Ba, Sr, Nb, Ta, P and Ti suggest that they have experienced strong fractional crystallization of plagioclase, biotite, hornblende and accessory minerals. The pre-ore monzogranite (~ 172 Ma) also belongs to the high-K calc-alkaline series. Highly fractionated REE patterns ((La/Yb) N = 19.6-21.7), high values of Sr/Y (54-69) and La/Yb (29-32), are adakite-like geochemical features. The post-ore rocks (~ 141-128 Ma) have similar geochemical characteristics with ore-forming porphyries except that quartz monzonite porphyry shows no Ba-Sr negative anomaly. All intrusive rocks have relative low initial 87Sr/86Sr (0.705413-0.707889) and εNd (t) values (- 1.28 to + 0.92), positive εHf (t) values (+ 2.4 to + 10.1) and young two-stage Nd and Hf model ages (TDM2 (Nd) = 863-977 Ma, TDM2 (Hf) = 552-976 Ma). These geochemical and isotopic data are interpreted to demonstrate that the ore-forming porphyries formed by partial melting of the juvenile lower crust caused by underplating of mafic magmas in an intra-plate extensional setting. The pre-ore monzogranite formed by partial melting of thickened lower crust in a collisional setting caused by closure of Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean. The post-ore feldspar porphyry shares a similar magma source with ore-forming porphyry, but the quartz monzonite porphyry has a relatively deeper magma source region and has not experienced as much fractional crystallization. The transformation from middle Jurassic compression to late Jurassic extension created favorable conditions for the generation and emplacement of the ore-forming magma. The juvenile lower crust provided the main source of molybdenum for Chalukou deposit. Enrichment of Mo by fractional crystallization played an important role in concentrating Mo during formation of the Chalukou Mo deposit. The age (~ 147 Ma), high fluorine, and associated Pb-Zn deposits are all different from other major porphyry Mo deposits in NE China; Chalukou is a new mineral deposit type in the Great Xing'an Range. The dynamics analysis of dangerous rock mass simplified into improved shear-beam model is progressed based on the engineering example of Zenziyan in Jinfo Mountain, and the definite problem of seismic response on stratified rock mass is solved to obtain the maximum response rules of absolute acceleration, shear stress and relative displacement of rock strata, then the practical monitoring data are taken to make contrastive analysis of the above calculation results and verify the rationality of stability evaluation using this analytic method which can complement the quantitative calculation means of dangerous rock mass and provide reference for the similar engineering construction designs. Background: Direct high-quality evidence remains absent on the benefits of HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B patients (CHB) with normal alanine transaminase (ALT) and positive HBV DNA after nucleos(t)ide analogs (NAs) treatment., Methods: This is a single-center, open-label, randomized parallel controlled trial with a follow-up duration of 96 weeks. An estimated 300 patients will be recruited at West China Hospital of Sichuan University, China. After stratified by serum HBV DNA (< 2000 vs. ≥ 2000 IU/ml), eligible patients will be randomized (allocation ratio 1:1) to receive either antiviral therapy (the treatment group) or regular examination alone (the control group). The primary outcomes are rates of virological response and changes in the levels of serum HBV pregenomic RNA (pgRNA) and scores of health-related qualities of life., Discussion: This randomized controlled trial focuses on HBeAg-negative patients with normal ALT, including those of the inactive carrier phase and the grey zone, whose antiviral treatment remains controversial. Additionally, a health-related quality of life scale is introduced to comprehensively estimate the benefit of antiviral treatment apart from virological response and adverse liver events. Background: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a major cause of heart failure and heart transplantation. Recently, some studies have reported that the autoimmune response in myocardial cells might be related to the pathogenesis of DCM. The CD247 gene has been previously found to be involved in autoimmune disease. Therefore, our study aimed to clarify the hypothesis that there is a certain linkage between polymorphisms of the CD247 gene and the triggering of DCM risk., Methods: In the present study, two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the CD247 gene, rs12141731 and rs858543, were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) in 355 DCM patients and 404 age- and sex-matched controls., Results: Pearson's chi-squared test for the CD247 gene revealed that SNP rs858543 (p = 0.001, OR = 0.72, 95% CI = (0.588-0.882), but not SNP rs12141731, was associated with DCM in the Chinese Han population. Haplotype analysis revealed that the CC haplotype was associated with increased DCM susceptibility, while CT was a protective haplotype. Cox multivariate survival analysis indicated that the rs858543 TT genotype (HR: 0.608, 95% CI = 0.402-0.921, p = 0.019) was an independent multivariate predictor for longer overall survival in DCM patients. Background: Creatinine-to-cystatin C ratio (CCR) has been associated with multiple adverse outcomes. However, little is known about its relationship with frailty. We aimed to explore the association between CCR and frailty among older adults., Methods: A total of 2599 participants aged ≥ 60 years (mean age 67.9 ± 6.0 years, 50.4% males) were included from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (2011-2015). Baseline CCR was calculated as plasma creatinine (mg/dL) / cystatin C (mg/L) × 10 and was grouped by quartiles. Frailty was evaluated by the validated physical frailty phenotype (PFP) scale and was defined as PFP score ≥ 3. The generalized estimating equations model was used to explore the relationship between CCR and frailty., Results: The frailty risk decreased gradually with increasing CCR in the quartiles (P for trend = 0.002), and the fourth CCR quartile was associated with a significantly lower risk of frailty compared with the lowest quartile (odds ratio [OR] 0.37, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.19-0.70). When modeling as a continuous variable, per 1-unit increase in CCR was related to 17% decreased odds of frailty (OR 0.83, 95% CI 0.74-0.93). The association was consistent in male and female participants (P for interaction = 0.41). Poisson models revealed that frailty score was negatively associated with CCR (β= -0.11, 95% CI= -0.19 to -0.04), and sex did not significantly moderate the associations (P for interaction = 0.22). The results were not affected by further adjusting for high-sensitivity C-reactive protein. Similar results were observed by analyses with multiple imputation technique and analyses excluding participants with baseline frailty., Conclusions: Higher CCR was associated with a lower frailty risk. Background: Both sleep disturbance and anxiety are common problems that significantly affect human health, but little is known about their causal relationship. The aim of this study was to explore the causal relationship between them with a large sample of community-dwelling adults included., Methods: Data for this study were extracted from the baseline survey of West China Natural Population Cohort Study (WCNPCS) and follow-up in the following year. The sleep quality was assessed using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and anxiety was screened using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7). Age, gender, educational level, marital status, smoking status, drinking status, depressive symptoms, loneliness and chronic diseases were taken as covariant factors. Logistic regression and cross-lagged models were used for data analyses., Results: A total of 16699 participants (67.5 % females) were enrolled, with the average age of participants being 57.3 ± 12.7 years. A total of 40.50 % of participants experienced poor sleep quality at baseline and 40.52 % at follow-up. The prevalence of anxiety was 7.58 % at baseline and 4.62 % at follow-up. The results showed that the risk of developing anxiety in individuals with sleep disturbance at baseline was 1.89 times higher than those without (95%CI = 1.43-2.48). Similarly, anxiety increased the risk of developing sleep disturbance by 1.20-fold (95%CI = 1.03-1.39). These results were further supported by the cross-lagged panel models., Conclusion: Sleep disturbance and anxiety are mutually causal, and the effect of poor sleep on anxiety seems to be more significant. Objective: Achieving textbook outcome (TO) implies a smooth recovery post-operation without specified composite complications. This study aimed to evaluate TO in laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD) and identify independent risk factors associated with achieving TO., Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of data from a randomized controlled trial on LPD at West China Hospital (ChiCTR1900026653). Patients were categorized into the TO and non-TO groups. Perioperative variables were compared between these groups. Multivariate logistic regression was utilized to identify the risk factors., Results: A total of 200 consecutive patients undergoing LPD were included in this study. TO was achieved in 82.5% (n = 165) of the patients. Female patients (OR: 2.877, 95% CI: 1.219-6.790; P = 0.016) and those with a hard pancreatic texture (OR: 2.435, 95% CI: 1.018-5.827; P = 0.046) were associated with an increased likelihood of achieving TO., Conclusions: TO can be achieved in more than 80% of patients in a high-volume LPD center. Background: Ear and temporal bone squamous cell carcinoma (ETBSCC) is a rare and aggressive malignant tumor with minimal clinicopathological studies. The object of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the predictive effect of clinicopathological variables on the 5-year overall survival (OS) rate of ETBSCC patients in a single tertiary medical center in Tianjin, China., Methods: A cohort of 44 patients with diagnosed ETBSCC from December 2012 to August 2022 were retrospectively studied. Univariate and multivariate analysis were, respectively, performed for the assessment of clinicopathological predictors, including sex, age, history of chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM), lesion side, diameter, the choice of surgical approach, parotidectomy, neck dissection, adjuvant therapies, T stage, lymph node metastasis, tumor grade, margin, perineural invasion (PNI), and Ki-67 index., Results: Seventeen females and 27 males were included, with the mean age of 65 years old, ranging from 36 to 89 years. The 5-year OS rate was 43% (mean 51 months, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 39-64). Significant prediction of a worse prognosis for 5-year OS rate was observed under univariate analysis for advanced T stage, positive margin, identified PNI, and higher Ki-67 index, respectively. Advanced T stage was confirmed to be an independent prognostic factor strongly affecting 5-year OS rate among this cohort of patients using a multivariate cox proportional hazard model., Conclusion: We found that clinicopathological parameters, especially postoperative pathological parameters, play a critical role in predicting the prognosis of ETBSCC patients., (© 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

Background: There is an urgent need for therapeutic strategies for inpatients with severe or critical COVID-19. The evaluation of the clinical benefits of nirmatrelvir and ritonavir (Nmr/r) for these patients beyond five days of symptom onset is insufficient., Methods: A new propensity score-matched cohort was constructed by using multicenter data from 6695 adult inpatients with COVID-19 from December 2022 to February 2023 in China after the epidemic control measures were lifted across the country. The severity of disease of the inpatients was based on the tenth trial edition of the Guidelines on the Diagnosis and Treatment of COVID-19 in China. The symptom onset of 1870 enrolled severe or critical inpatients was beyond five days, and they received either Nmr/r plus standard treatment or only standard care. The ratio of patients whose SOFA score improved more than 2 points, crucial respiratory endpoints, changes in inflammatory markers, safety on the seventh day following the initiation of Nmr/r treatment, and length of hospital stay were evaluated., Results: In the Nmr/r group, on Day 7, the number of patients with an improvement in SOFA score ≥ 2 was much greater than that in the standard treatment group (P = 0.024) without a significant decrease in glomerular filtration rate (P = 0.815). Additionally, the rate of new intubation was lower (P = 0.004) and the no intubation days were higher (P = 0.003) in the first 7 days in the Nmr/r group. Other clinical benefits were limited., Conclusions: Our study may provide new insight that inpatients with severe or critical COVID-19 beyond five days of symptom onset benefit from Nmr/r. Estuarine wetlands exhibit significant interaction between fresh and salt water, with long-term carbon sequestration capability. We set up 60 sampling sites in the reed wetlands of the fresh-salt water interaction zone of the Yellow River Estuary, covering four different zones of the weak-intensity fresh-salt water interaction zone (WIZ), medium-intensity fresh-salt water interaction zone (MIZ), high-intensity interaction fresh-salt water zone (HIZ) and strong-intensity fresh-salt water interaction zone (SIZ). We investigated how fresh-salt water interaction affected the spatial variation of soil organic carbon (SOC) storage. The results showed that the area of reed wetland accounted for 17.8% of the total area of the fresh-salt water interaction zone the Yellow River Estuary, which mainly distributed in the WIZ and MIZ. The SOC content of reed wetland in the fresh-salt water interaction zone ranged from 1.09 to 3.65 g·kg -1 , the SOC density was between 1.85-5.84 kg·m -2 , and the SOC storage was (17.32±3.64)×10 4 t. The SOC content and SOC density decreased with increasing fresh-salt water interaction. There were significant differences in surface SOC content between different subzones of the fresh-salt water interaction zone. The surface SOC content decreased significantly with the increases of fresh-salt water interaction intensity. SOC density was positively correlated with SOC, TN, NH 4 + -N, and biomass, but negatively correlated with salt ions, soil bulk density, pH, and EC. SOC storage in the 0-30 cm soil layer accounted for 50.9%-64.2% of that in the 0-60 cm soil layer, while SOC storage in the 0-60 cm soil layer occupied 19.1%-37.7% of that in the 0-400 cm soil layer. The results could provide a scientific basis for accurately evaluating SOC storage of estuarine wetlands, improving carbon sink function and wetland management.

The China Surgery and Anaesthesia Cohort (CSAC) study was launched in July 2020 and is an ongoing prospective cohort study recruiting patients aged 40-65 years who underwent elective surgeries with general anaesthesia across four medical centres in China. The general objective of the CSAC study is to improve our understanding of the complex interaction between environmental and genetic components as well as to determine their effects on a wide range of interested surgery/anaesthesia-related outcomes. To achieve this goal, we collected enriched phenotypic data, e.g., sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle factors, perioperative neuropsychological changes, anaesthesia- and surgery-related complications, and medical conditions, at recruitment, as well as through both active (at 1, 3, 7 days and 1, 3, 6, 12 months after surgery) and passive (for more than 1 year after surgery) follow-up assessments. We also obtained omics data from blood samples. In addition, COVID-19-related information was collected from all participants since January 2023, immediately after COVID-19 restrictions were eased in China. As of July 18, 2023, 12,766 participants (mean age = 52.40 years, 57.93% were female) completed baseline data collection (response rate = 94.68%), among which approximately 70% donated blood and hair samples. The follow-up rates within 12 months after surgery were > 92%. Our initial analyses have demonstrated the incidence of and risk factors for chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) and postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) among middle-aged Chinese individuals, which may prompt further mechanistic exploration and facilitate the development of effective interventions for preventing those conditions. This study aimed to examine the association of hemoglobin concentration with a 90-day mortality of young adult patients with ICH in a large retrospective cohort. A retrospective observational study was conducted between December 2013 and June 2019 in two tertiary academic medical centers in China. We defined patients with hemoglobin concentration < 80 g/L as severe anemia and 80-120/130 g/L as mild to moderate anemia. We also defined patients with hemoglobin concentration > 160 g/L as high hemoglobin. Associations of hemoglobin and outcomes were evaluated in multivariable regression analyses. The primary outcome was mortality at 90 days. We identified 4098 patients with ICH who met the inclusion criteria. After adjusting primary confounding variables, the 90-day mortality rate was significantly higher in young patients with severe anemia (OR, 39.65; 95% CI 15.42-101.97), moderate anemia (OR, 2.49; 95% CI 1.24-5.00), mild anemia (OR, 1.89; 95% CI 1.20-2.98), and high hemoglobin (OR, 2.03; 95% CI 1.26-3.26) group than in young patients of the normal group. The younger age was associated with a higher risk of death from anemia in patients with ICH (P for interaction = 0.01). In young adult patients with ICH, hemoglobin concentration was associated with 90-day mortality, and even mild to moderate anemia correlated with higher mortality. Background: Emergency specialist nurses play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients. This study investigated the innovative behavior and information literacy of emergency specialist nurses and analyzed the influence of information literacy on innovative behavior to promote the latter., Methods: In total, 484 emergency specialist nurses in Sichuan Province, China, completed the Innovative Behavior and Information Literacy Scales. Univariate analysis, Pearson's analysis, and multiple linear regression were performed., Results: The emergency specialist nurses' innovative behavior and information literacy scores were 32.34 ± 6.27 and 74.32 ± 7.38, respectively. Scores for information awareness, ability, knowledge, and ethics were 3.90 ± 0.53, 2.95 ± 0.45, 3.32 ± 0.19, and 3.28 ± 0.30, respectively. The correlation analysis demonstrated that information literacy positively correlated with innovative behavior. The multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that experience in publishing academic papers influenced innovative behavior., Conclusions: Emergency specialist nurses demonstrated a moderate level of innovative behavior. Higher information literacy was associated with higher innovative behavior. Therefore, enhancing emergency specialist nurses' information literacy could stimulate innovative behavior and improve innovation ability. Background: Host genetic single nucleotide polymorphisms can exert an influence susceptibility to tuberculosis infection. Previous investigations have demonstrated an association between the polymorphism in the ALOX5 gene and a range of diseases, encompassing not only noninfectious conditions like asthma, acute myocardial infarction, and cerebral infarction but also infections caused by various pathogens. However, the relationship between ALOX5 gene polymorphism and susceptibility to tuberculosis has received limited research attention. The ALOX5 gene encodes arachidonic acid 5-lipoxygenase(5-LO), which serves as the initiating catalyst in the generation of the inflammatory mediator leukotriene. Leukotrienes, products derived from the 5-LO pathway, are potent proinflammatory lipid mediators that assume a pivotal role in tuberculosis infections.Consequently, ALOX5 gene variants may be intricately associated with the pathogenesis of tuberculosis. In instances where the host exhibits immunocompromisation, infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis can impact multiple systems. The involvement of multiple systems significantly augments the complexity of treatment and escalates patient mortality rates. Regrettably, the underlying mechanisms driving multisystem tuberculosis pathogenesis remain enigmatic, with clinicians paying scant attention to this aspect. Although the protein encoded by the ALOX5 gene represents a pivotal enzyme that catalyzes the metabolism of arachidonic acid into LXA4, and thereby plays a significant role in the inflammatory response during tuberculosis infection, studies investigating ALOX5 gene polymorphism and its association with susceptibility to multisystem tuberculosis in the Chinese Han population are exceptionally scarce. Therefore, the primary objective of this study is to comprehensively examine the correlation between ALOX5 gene polymorphisms and susceptibility to tuberculosis within the Chinese Han population, with particular emphasis on multisystemic tuberculosis., Methods: A case‒control study design was employed, encompassing 382 individuals with pulmonary tuberculosis and 367 individuals with multisystemic tuberculosis as the case groups, along with 577 healthy controls.Whole blood DNA was extracted from all patients and healthy controls. Subsequently, three tag polymorphisms (rs2029253, rs7896431, rs2115819) within the ALOX5 gene were selectively identified and genotyped., Results: After adjusting for age and sex, the presence of allele A at rs2029253 exhibited a pronounced association with an elevated risk of TB susceptibility when compared to the tuberculosis group and healthy control group. (OR a : 2.174, 95% CI: 1.827-2.587; P a <0.001, respectively). Notably, the rs2029253 AG genotype and AA genotype displayed a significantly increased susceptibility to tuberculosis (OR a : 2.236, 95% CI: 1.769-2.825; P a <0.001 and OR a : 4.577, 95% CI: 2.950-7.100; P a <0.001, respectively) compared to the GG genotype. Moreover, in the analysis utilizing genetic models, rs2029253 also exhibited a markedly heightened susceptibility to tuberculosis in additive models, dominant models, and recessive models (P a <0.001). Conversely, no significant association was observed between rs7896431, rs2115819, and tuberculosis. In the subgroup analysis, when comparing the pulmonary tuberculosis group with the healthy control group, we observed no significant disparities in the distribution frequencies of alleles, genotypes, and gene models (additive model, dominant model, and recessive model) for the three tag SNPs, with P-values were >0.05 after adjusting for age and sex. Additionally, we noted that the presence of allele A at rs2029253 was linked to an increased susceptibility to tuberculosis in the multisystemic tuberculosis group relative to the healthy control group (OR a : 2.292, 95% CI: 1.870-2.810; P a <0.001). Purpose: The incidence of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)-related complications is higher in cancer patients than in noncancer patients. However, the pattern of specific complication occurrence over time remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics of PICC-related complications in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy., Methods: This prospective, observational study was conducted at a university-affiliated hospital in Western China. Cancer patients undergoing PICC insertion for anticancer treatment were recruited and followed up until the first week after catheter removal. Any complications, including occurrence time and outcomes, were recorded. The trajectory of specific PICC-related complications over time were identify based on the Kaplan‒Meier curve analysis., Results: Of the 233 patients analyzed, nearly half (n = 112/233, 48.1%) developed 150 PICC-related complication events. The most common were symptomatic catheter-related thrombosis (CRT) (n = 37/233, 15.9%), medical adhesive-related skin injury (MARSI) (n = 27/233, 11.6%), and catheter dislodgement (n = 17/233, 7.3%), accounting for 54.0% (n = 81/150, 54.0%) of total complications events. According to Kaplan‒Meier curve analysis, symptomatic CRT, pain, phlebitis, and insertion site bleeding were classified as the "early onset" group mainly occurring within the first month post-insertion. Catheter fracture and catheter-related bloodstream infection were classified as the "late onset" group occurring after the second month post-insertion. MARSI, catheter dislodgement, occlusion, and insertion site infection were classified as the "persistent onset" group persistently occurring during the whole catheter-dwelling period. Among the 112 patients with PICC-related complications, 50 (44.6%) patients had their catheters removed due to complications, and 62 (55.4%) patients successfully retained their catheters until treatment completion through conventional interventions. The major reasons for unplanned catheter removal were catheter dislodgement (n = 12/233, 5.2%), symptomatic CRT (n = 10/233, 4.3%), and MARSI (n = 7/233, 3.0%), accounting for 58.0% (n = 29/50, 58.0%) of the total unplanned catheter removal cases. Catheter dwelling times between patients with complications under successful interventions (130.5 ± 32.1 days) and patients with no complications (138.2 ± 46.4 days) were not significantly different (t = 1.306, p = 0.194; log-rank test = 2.610, p = 0.106)., Conclusions: PICC-related complications were pretty common in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. The time distribution of PICC-related complications varied, and medical staff should develop time-specific protocols for prevention. Because more than half of the patients with PICC-related complications could be managed with conventional interventions, PICCs remain a priority for cancer patients undergoing short-term chemotherapy. Background: This study was performed to determine the feasibility of Day-case loop ileostomy reversal (DLIR) in China based on the community hospital joined enhanced recovery after surgery (CHJ-ERAS) program., Method: Patients who underwent loop ileostomy were enrolled in the CHJ-ERAS program for DLIR after rigorous evaluation. The primary outcome was the results of short-term follow-ups., Results: From August 2017 to April 2022, 216 patients have been enrolled in the CHJ-ERAS program for DLIR. After DLIR, 14 patients (14/216, 6.5%) have recorded 17 episodes of postoperative complications within 1 month after surgery, including 10 readmission and 2 reoperation. Compared with in-patient loop ileostomy reversal, DLIR based on CHJ-ERAS did not increase the postoperative complications and reoperations., Conclusion: The CMJ-ERAS program for DLIR in our center is a safe and feasible alternative option for inpatient LIR and an acceptable transitional approach for the development of day-case DLIR in developing countries., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest We declare there is no conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2023.
