Purpose: Elucidation of the cardio-oncologic knowledge among the oncology nurses of tertiary hospitals in Shanxi Province to provide better insights and directions for management by nursing managers.Background: China's National Health and Wellness Commission issued the Action Plan for Further Improving Nursing Services in June 2023, which requires nurses to provide patients with physical and mental holistic nursing services, such as medical care, condition observation, assistance with treatment, and health guidance. Most oncology patients are treated with chemotherapy, but the modality can cause greater harm to patients, especially cardiotoxicity. How to provide precise care for chemotherapy patients is a problem for nursing managers.Methods: In order to investigate the level of cardio-oncologic knowledge among the oncology nurses of tertiary care hospitals in Shanxi Province, China, a questionnaire was created based on the relevant literature and the provided instructions on cardio-oncology. The chi-squared test was performed for multiple comparisons of the level of knowledge of disease observation, health guidance, and implementation of treatment. Spearman correlation analysis was performed to analyze the correlation between the levels of cardio-oncologic knowledge and general information of hospitals and nurses.Results: Cardio-oncology awareness among the oncology nurses was 0.1%– 44.7%, the awareness rate of single dimension was 0 to 3.9%, and overall awareness rate was 0. A partially significant difference was revealed in the two-by-two comparisons of the awareness rates of the three dimensions of disease observation, health guidance, and implementation of treatment (P < 0.05). A correlation was observed between the cardio-oncologic knowledge and some of the hospital and the nurses' general information data (P < 0.05).Conclusion: Oncology nurses exhibited a low rate of awareness related to cardio-oncology. Hospitals could establish oncology nursing teams to train the oncology nurses to promote their cardio-oncologic knowledge and ensure the quality of daily care provided by these nurses. In view of the limited data from the current prospective studies on the treatment of elderly patients with lung cancer, while drawing on The expert consensus of accelerated rehabilitation nursing in peri-operative period of lung operation in the elderly, the nursing care of the aged patients with lung cancer still needs to be concerned about radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immuno-targeted therapy. To this end, Lung Cancer Specialty Committee of Chinese Elderly Health Care Association organized a national team of thoracic medical and nursing experts, based on the latest research progress and the best clinical evidence at home and abroad, took the lead in preparing Consensus of Chinese experts on nursing of lung cancer in the elderly (2022 edition). Based on evidence-based medicine (EBM) and problem-oriented medicine, the author searched the relevant literatures at home and abroad and combined with the clinical situation in our country, aimed at the different treatment methods of the aged patients with lung cancer, to further standardize the application of assessment tools, guide the implementation of clinical symptoms observation and nursing measures, pay attention to the prevention of various high-risk factors of elderly patients, to multidisciplinary cooperation as a model, holistic nursing as the connotation, develop this consensus. Aim: To examine effects of holistic sleep improvement strategies on frontline nurses who served in Wuhan, China, during a public health emergency (COVID‐19). Design: A pre–post‐test design with single group was conducted with a convenience sample applied the Transparent Reporting of Evaluations with Non‐randomized Designs statement. Methods: Fifty‐two nurses were recruited from a COVID‐19 designated hospital, receiving holistic sleep improvement intervention, which concentrated on scientific human resource management, comfortable sleep environment establishment, self‐relaxation and self‐adjustment training and humanistic care. Data was collected at baseline and 4‐week follow‐up post intervention using self‐reported questionnaires. Results: The total score of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scale was 8.69 ± 4.346 at baseline. After 4 weeks of follow‐up, the score statistically significantly decreased to 7.48 ± 3.691. Subjective sleep quality (p =.016), sleep efficiency (p =.015), sleep disturbances (p =.007) were statistically significantly improved after the intervention, while there were no statistically significant differences in sleep latency (p =.205), sleep duration (p =.375), sleep medication (p =.723) or daytime dysfunction (p =.747). Background. With the technology of high-fidelity simulates developed, the clinical education route has changed. The nursing school pays attention on the use of high-fidelity simulations in nursing education. However, in China, only a few schools can afford the expensive teaching tools, including SimMom 3G and virtual reality (VR) devices, which also focus on "holistic nursing simulation." Objective. To explore the evaluation and development of a holistic nursing simulation session for nursing students based on an integrated nursing approach in obstetrics. Methods. This study was based in a rich Chinese nursing school under the medical university that value nursing education. This study is founded on 147 third-year nursing students in obstetrics classes. After the simulation teaching, the teaching effect of the questionnaire was investigated, and the total number of questionnaires was 124 students. Results. Students agreed that the holistic nursing simulation cultivated humanistic care literacy, clinical practice ability, and clinical thinking ability; enhanced teamwork ability; and reinforced professional knowledge. In the occurrence of public health emergency events, such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the most severely affected areas may face various problems due to insufficient medical staff and materials. These problems can be solved by the adequate supply of trans-regional medical support. However, due to the Chinese government's hierarchical and segmented administrative system, the provision of such support to fight against the COVID-19 epidemic in China met several challenges, including insufficient coordination and weak integration. This article summarizes four aspects of fragmentation related to the holistic management of this situation: cooperation from local government officials, supply of medical resources, support from logistical services, and incentive mechanisms. Based on the concept of responsible holistic nursing care, a whole-process dual-tutor nursing practice model is established and its application effects are explored. This paper firstly reviews the research progress of nursing workload prediction methods at home and abroad, in order to provide a reference for clinical nursing workers in China to choose a scientific, reasonable, and easy-to-use nursing workload prediction method. It is proposed to construct a nursing education management model based on small data to provide ideas and references for nursing education management to effectively predict the evolutionary trend of students' behaviour and improve the level of accurate services. The experimental group adopted a dual-tutor responsibility system for the whole-process nursing practice model, including a complete three-level supervision system: a dual-tutor teaching system, a PDCA responsibility system for continuous improvement, and a multichannel teacher-student interaction platform; the control group adopted the traditional nursing practice model. Using Gordon's Functional Health Pattern Model, the current cross-sectional study aimed to survey physical and psychosocial responses to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic among Chinese frontline nurses and to identify the most vulnerable groups for future reference and interventions. A self-administered online questionnaire was used to collect demographic data and stress reactions of 115 Chinese frontline nurses. The 52-item version of Gordon's Functional Health Questionnaire was used to evaluate physical, psychological, and social effects of the COVID-19 pandemic among participants. The most prevalent problems were reported in the psychological aspect, where respondents referred to altered self-image due to constant use of masks (87.8%), excessive attention to clinical signs of COVID-19 (59.2%), depression (54%), forgetfulness (40.9%), and anxiety (39.1%). Purpose: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) proposes the world as a holistic unity of energy. With a long history of use, TCM is generally accepted in the Chinese health care system. Despite growing global interest and use, TCM has received a mixed response from Western health care systems. This study aimed to describe the underpinnings of TCM, compare TCM and Western medicine, and suggest how key modalities might be applied to strengthen holistic nursing care in the United States. Design: A qualitative, descriptive exploratory investigation employing a constructivist grounded theory. Method: Interview of TCM healers in Hong Kong (n = 5). Transcripts were reviewed to identify common themes and categories. Findings: Five themes were identified: improvement in energy flow and health, TCM as "a way of knowing," curing source versus symptoms of disease, declining TCM practice in Hong Kong, and need for interprofessional education. Conclusions: TCM is considered useful in chronic illnesses, whereas those with acute illnesses often seek Western medicine. Failing to address the holistic care needs and preferences of individuals results in less than optimal health outcomes. Nurses need explicit TCM content and would benefit from a restructuring of curricula and clinical experiences to foster integration into caring practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spiritual care competence of nurses is crucial to satisfy the spiritual needs of the clients, but the dearth of conceptual frameworks has hindered the clarification of the construct, especially for nurses in the People's Republic of China. This article developed a 3*3*3 matrix framework to clarify the components of spiritual care competence for Chinese nurses through the synthesis of existing empirical and theoretical work, which includes three aspects (awareness, understanding, and application) on three levels (intrapersonal, interpersonal, and transpersonal) of three contents of spirituality (namely, worldview, connectedness, and transcendence). The proposed framework can be used as a model to promote spiritual care competence of nurses in China. China has more than 300 million cigarette smokers and 1 million deaths every year attributed to smoking. Despite its huge economic implications, the lack of smoking and associated lifestyle-related data on China's outpatients makes it difficult for health care professionals to provide individualized assessments and targeted interventions. This study aimed to identify factors to inform nurse-led smoking behavioral assessments and cessation interventions. Clinical data from new patients attending the family medicine outpatient department from a large tertiary hospital in a major Southern China city were collected between March and December 2015. Data including basic demographics, medical history, vaccination history, current medication, and information on lifestyle risk factors were collected by frontline nurses during nursing assessment on their initial visit. Chi-square and Student's t tests were used as univariate analysis and post hoc regression analysis to explore which factors contributed toward smoking cessation. Of 7913 eligible visits, smokers and ex-smokers accounted for 13.5% and 2.4% of new patients, respectively, with a majority of them being young and male (gender ratio of 8:1) smokers. Multiple behavioral risks and comorbidities such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus in smokers were common; for example, 17.9% of smokers were also current drinkers, making alcohol users 8.5 to 16.7 times more likely to have smoked. Ex-smokers were more likely to be divorced, to be ex-drinkers, or to have higher diastolic blood pressure and concurrent hypertension. Smoking and associated lifestyle risk assessments run by registered nurses should be incorporated into current outpatient health histories and in targeted smoking cessation intervention programs. Background: Osteoporosis (OP) has become a significant public health problem in mainland China. OP significantly increase the requirement of patients to seamless medical care service. So it is time to train the OP specialized nurses to promote the development of nursing science and improve the quality of clinical nursing practice and outcomes of patients. Objectives: The aim of this article is to introduce the connotation, the current status and domains of research, and build core competence model for Chinese osteoporosis specialized nurse, as well as the implications for training osteoporosis specialized nurse in mainland China. Methods: An comprehensively understanding and reflection of the development history of clinical nursing specialist could ensure its continued success as a predominate force in health restoration , development of OP specialized nurses in mainland China and the promotion of the health and well-being of people. A review of the literature yielded a lack of cohesive information about the evolution of the CNS role, prompting an investigation into the historical, current, and future aspects of the CNS. Outcomes: This article compiles information related to the development history of the core competence and construct the roles-competences model and core competence model at the basis of core competencies theory, clinical ladders theory, roles theory and holistic theory apply to Chinese OP specialized nurses. Conclusions: An reasonable and scientific core competence model is the consolidate basis to promote the development of nursing science and OP specialized nurses in mainland China. International Nursing Review 58, 319-327 Aim: This paper discussed the basic concepts, theories and practices of traditional Chinese nursing (TCN) to enrich our understanding of relevant concepts and ways to contribute to human health. Background: Advantages of TCN include health education based on theories and techniques of traditional Chinese medicine. It focuses mainly on mobilizing humans' capacity for self-adjustment and self-rehabilitation to make a dynamic balance between yin and yang, qi and blood and zang and fu. It has played a significant role in the fields of primary nursing, geriatric nursing, hospice, family nursing, etc., in China. Method: PubMed, CINAHL, Ovid Medline (English) and the Wang Fang (Chinese) databases were searched for literature on a range of keywords relating to traditional Chinese medicine and nursing. Forty references (13 English and 27 Chinese) were finally selected for review. Conclusion: Practices of nursing care in traditional Chinese medicine are based mainly on the theories of yin-yang and the five elements. There are two prime characteristics in the theoretical system of TCN: holism and nursing determination based on syndrome differentiation. The distinctive content include prevention, daily care of patients, dietary nursing, etc. TCN, with its characteristics of little damage, little pain, ease of operation and low cost, is appropriately used in primary health care in China. By combining Western and Eastern philosophies and approaches to nursing, life phenomena can be better understood, and more ways to promote health can be exploited. Scientists are beginning to use Western research methods to establish effectiveness. Reframing can be an effective tool in enhancing a clinical practice that is based on a holistic understanding of the client's meaning systems, and the strengths and resilience exemplified in the client's life experience. Immigrant clients, who are often marginalized in society due to their markedly different sociocultural backgrounds and the pernicious effects of racism, tend to struggle with belief systems that are subjugated by those of the host country and internalize their losses and setbacks as personal deficits and failures. Two case vignettes of Chinese immigrants will be used to discuss how reframing can offer positive yet culturally relevant options for clients to create new meanings and adaptive behavior in their life situations. Left-behind children (LBC) are an at-risk population in China with emerging mental health needs. This study aimed to systematically review experimental studies of interventions that promote mental health wellbeing of LBC in mainland China. We reviewed both English and Chinese language studies published from 2000 to 2019 via a comprehensive search involving the databases PubMed and two database aggregators (ProQuest and EbscoHost) plus China National Knowledge Infrastructure. We retained empirical articles if they involved randomized controlled trials of mental health interventions focused on LBC in mainland China. We included twelve studies in our review. Across the twelve studies, various intervention formats–including group-based services, sports activities, holistic nursing services, and a combination of multiple formats–improved LBC's mental health. The primary helping professionals included research teams from universities, teachers from local schools, and multidisciplinary teams. Social workers were not involved in any intervention. This review found that, although the field is new, the limited set of studies suggests that interventions might improve the mental health of LBC. The evidence base, however, is relatively poor in quality. The current state of the science calls for more wide-spread dissemination and rigorous evaluation of mental health interventions for LBC. Background: Although spiritual care is a basic element of holistic nursing, nurses' spiritual care knowledge and abilities are often unable to satisfy patients' spiritual care needs. Therefore, nurses are in urgent need of relevant training to enhance their abilities to provide patients with spiritual care. Design: A nonrandomized controlled trial. Objective: To establish a spiritual care training protocol and verify its effectiveness. Methods: This study recruited 92 nurses at a cancer treatment hospital in a single province via voluntary sign-up. The nurses were divided into two groups—the study group (45 people) and the control (wait-listed) group (47 people)—using a coin-toss method. The study group received one spiritual care group training session every six months based on their routine nursing education; this training chiefly consisted of lectures by experts, group interventions, clinical practice, and case sharing. The control group participated in monthly nursing education sessions organized by the hospital for 12 continuous months. Results: After 12 months of intervention, the nurses in the study group had significantly higher overall spiritual health and spiritual care competency scores as well as significantly higher scores on all individual dimensions compared with those in the control group (P < 0.01). Conclusions: A spiritual care training protocol for nurses based on the concept of mutual growth with patients enhances nurses' spiritual well-being and spiritual care competencies. The purpose of this article is to reveal Chinese-rooted meanings present within the Western nursing metaparadigm and to illustrate some similarities with Rogers's Science of Unitary Human Beings. Confucian and Taoist beliefs have the potential to illuminate the basic constructs inherent in holistic nursing. The Western nursing metaparadigm of four concepts--person, nursing, health, and environment--was explored through the lens of a Chinese worldview and led to the presentation of a broadened view for an integrated model of nursing. Asian and Western worldviews of human beings and health are not mutually exclusive. The Chinese holistic worldview of Taoism and Confucianism resonates theoretically and cosmically with the dynamic nature of the human-environment mutual relationship basic to Rogers' unitary view. This strong, theoretical link, when elaborated for its similarities and implications, can broaden the knowledge base to guide contemporary nursing practice, education, and research, particularly relevant for holistic nursing.
