Incorporating citizen engagement in scaling up nature-based solutions (NbS) is a burgeoning and promising approach to foster localized, decentralized, and bottom-up project management strategies. While scholars have expressed heightened interest in citizen participation, there is a prominent lack of exploration into the dynamic and evolutionary nature of participatory behaviors. Reinforced by the theory of planned behavior and scale-free network, an agent-based simulation was constructed to simulate the citizens' behavioral changes and evolutions in engaging NbS projects under different conditions. The simulation results suggest that as information is disseminated and opinions are exchanged, the proportion of residents exhibiting silence and unwillingness to participate experiences a fluctuating increase, while the proportion of residents with willingness to participate undergoes a fluctuating decrease. Ultimately, the proportions of the three groups tend to stabilize. Relying predominantly on the formal government-led network has the potential to enhance neighborhood participation rates, whereas an overreliance on informal networks rooted in social ties and information dissemination can have notable detrimental effects on participation. This research centers on the necessity for synchronized management of natural resources in urban agglomerations. This study utilizes the ecosystem services theory to analyze the interplay between land use and the Food-Water-Energy (F-W-E) nexus in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (B-T-H) region from 2000 to 2030. Assessment of ecosystem services is conducted using InVEST models, which include Habitat Quality (HQ), Water Yield (WY), Carbon Sequestration (CS), Soil Retention (SDR), and Food Production (FP). The findings indicate an annual increase in construction land with a concurrent notable decrease in cultivated land. Furthermore, HQ, CS, and per capita FP show an annual decline until 2020, which is expected to continue until 2030. Conversely, WY and SDR have been growing annually, albeit projected to decline by 2030. Spearman coefficient analysis uncovers synergies between HQ and CS, SDR and CS, and SDR and HQ, alongside trade-offs between CS and WY and HQ and WY. Trade-offs are also observed between FP and SDR, CS, and HQ. Applying K-means clustering analysis facilitates county-based spatial planning for the F-W-E system, providing crucial insights and suggestions for sustainable resource management. • First Chinese tray-meal dataset collected (1185 images, 99 dish categories). • Method developed for dish recognition based on deep learning. • Automatic nutrition estimation method for Chinese tray meals. Tray meal is a popular way of eating in China, and tray-based automatic dietary assessment is important for public health. Relevant research is lacking because public tray meal datasets and suitable methods are unavailable. In this study, we established and published the first Chinese tray meal dataset, the ChinaLunchTray-99. We collected real-world 1185 tray meal images, covering 99 dish categories with corresponding manually annotated bounding box and category-level labels. We developed a new framework for automatic dietary assessment, which consists of dish image recognition, volume estimation and nutrition mapping. First, we demonstrated a tray meal detection model considering feature extraction, anchor scales, and loss function, resulting in a high mean Average Precision of 92.13%. Second, we proposed an automatic method to estimate volume via detection results and tray's information. Finally, nutrients were mapped from the estimated volume. The rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) is an economically important source of natural rubber. H. brasiliensis grows slowly in southern China mainly because of relatively low temperatures there. The slow growth rate delays plant propagation, so ways of increasing growth are needed. Light is important for regulating plant growth. An extended photophase is commonly used to increase plant growth and development. We studied the effects of an extended photophase, by supplemental LED night lighting, on the growth and physiology of young H. brasiliensis. Night lighting significantly increased plant height, stem diameter, and flush number. Chlorophyll a and total chlorophyll contents significantly increased, while chlorophyll b and carotenoids were unaffected. The photosynthetic parameters, nutrition status, and soluble sugar and protein contents changed little with supplemental lighting. The activities of antioxidases, including superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase, were similar in the experimental and control plants. The results showed that overnight LED lighting, in addition to solar irradiation during the daytime, could improve the rhythmic growth of H. brasiliensis without causing obvious physiological changes. Objectives: To compare the long‐term efficacy between pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) combined with passive stretching (PRF‐PS) exercise and PS exercise alone in reducing pain and improving quadriceps muscle strength and knee function. Methods: Sixty‐two participants were randomly assigned with a 1:1 allocation to the PRF‐PS exercise group or the PS exercise group. Level of pain, muscle strength, and knee function were assessed from baseline to the first, third, and sixth months after treatment using the VAS, peak torque (PT), and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), respectively. Results: There were no significant differences at baseline between the 2 groups. Compared to exercise alone, participants achieved superior efficacy with PRF‐PS in pain relief, improvement of muscle strength, and knee function. Moreover, the improvement of all variables was maintained for a longer period of time in the PRF‐PS group. The reduction in participants' VAS pain intensity scores was superior for PRF‐PS vs. PS with overall estimation (adjusted mean difference: −1.85 cm; 95% confidence interval [CI] −2.25, −1.45 cm; P = 0.000). The increase in participants' PT scores was superior for PRF‐PS vs. PS with overall estimation (adjusted mean difference: 15.53 N. m; 95% CI 7.07, 23.98 N. m; P = 0.000; and 12.62 N. m; 95% CI 0.96, 24.28 N. m; P = 0.000 for PT 60 degrees/s and PT 180 degrees/s, respectively). The reduction in participants' WOMAC scores was superior for PRF‐PS vs. PS with overall estimation (adjusted mean difference: −16.43; 95% CI −22.22, −10.64; P = 0.000). With the accelerating urbanization process, there is an increasing shortage of land resource. It leads to an increasingly serious conflicts between built-up areas and other types of land use. This will further hinder city sustainable development. To address the issue, this paper takes urban land management sustainability as the study object and puts forward an evaluation method on sustainable land management (SLM) in urban area. First, four aspects of sustainable land management are proposed, namely economic progress, social stability, urban improvement and ecological balance. Second, a system with fourteen indicators is built according to the aspects. Third, using the indicators, the sub-performance and the overall efficiency of SLM are evaluated with the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) based on entropy weight. After that, the proposed method is applied to a case study of Shanghai, China. The results show the time series changing of SLM performance from 2000 to 2011 and reveal an unbalanced development path among the four aspects of SLM. Accordingly, policy recommendations are proposed to improve the sustainable land management efficiency. Therefore, it demonstrates that the proposed evaluation method can be used to reveal to what extend the urban land use is reasonable and sustainable and provides guidance on government urban land planning and policy making. This article presents a brief history and poses questions about traditional Chinese movable type printing. This is a technology that developed in the pre-modern period and never underwent in the mechanization in the ways that Western movable type printing did. Nevertheless, even today, Chinese traditional movable types continue to be used in some places in China. The authors not only describe the chronology of but also analyse significant cultural, political, and social factors affecting the development traditional Chinese typography. The first part of this article discusses the movable type made of earthenware and of wood, which are described in various sources written by scholar-officials. In the case of movable type for the Tangut script, however, the main evidence come from chiefly religious imprints which provide information about material evidence as well as a few about printers, typesetters, etc. The second section describes the long hiatus from the Yuan until the second half of the fifteenth century in the utilization of metallic typography in the private circles in Wuxi in Jiangnan, whose publications still survive, and how during the last dynasty, the movable type production reflects some trends in book publishing in general, with the important engagement of some of the Manchu emperors. In the last section of the paper, the authors explain why although wooden types existed in the Kingdom of Xixia (1032-1227) and in the Yuan dynasty (1279-1368), it was only in the Ming (1368-1644) to Qing (1644-1911) periods that their use became more widespread in China. Wooden movable type played a key role in the printing of genealogies in various areas (e.g. Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hunan, and Fujian). Objective: This study aims to examine the impact of PE/PPE gene mutations on the transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) in China. Methods: We collected the whole genome sequencing (WGS) data of 3202 M. tuberculosis isolates in China from 2007 to 2018 and investigated the clustering of strains from different lineages. To evaluate the potential role of PE/PPE gene mutations in the dissemination of the pathogen, we employed homoplastic analysis to detect homoplastic single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within these gene regions. Subsequently, logistic regression analysis was conducted to analyze the statistical association. Results: Based on nationwide M. tuberculosis WGS data, it has been observed that the majority of the M. tuberculosis burden in China is caused by lineage 2 strains, followed by lineage 4. Lineage 2 exhibited a higher number of transmission clusters, totaling 446 clusters, of which 77 were cross-regional clusters. Conversely, there were only 52 transmission clusters in lineage 4, of which 9 were cross-regional clusters. In the analysis of lineage 2 isolates, regression results showed that 4 specific gene mutations, PE4 (position 190,394; c.46G > A), PE_PGRS10 (839,194; c.744 A > G), PE16 (1,607,005; c.620T > G) and PE_PGRS44 (2,921,883; c.333 C > A), were significantly associated with the transmission of M. tuberculosis. Mutations of PE_PGRS10 (839,334; c.884 A > G), PE_PGRS11 (847,613; c.1455G > C), PE_PGRS47 (3,054,724; c.811 A > G) and PPE66 (4,189,930; c.303G > C) exhibited significant associations with the cross-regional clusters. A total of 13 mutation positions showed a positive correlation with clustering size, indicating a positive association. For lineage 4 strains, no mutations were found to enhance transmission, but 2 mutation sites were identified as risk factors for cross-regional clusters. These included PE_PGRS4 (338,100; c.974 A > G) and PPE13 (976,897; c.1307 A > C). Conclusion: Our results indicate that some PE/PPE gene mutations can increase the risk of M. tuberculosis transmission, which might provide a basis for controlling the spread of tuberculosis. Calamus is the largest genus in the palm family (Arecaceae) and contains many species of high ecological and economical value. In this study, we assessed the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), matK, rbcL, trnH-psbA, as well as two combinations, matK + rbcL and matK + rbcL + trnH-psbA, as DNA barcodes for Calamus using 15 species or varieties distributed in China. ITS may exist as multiple copies in the examined Calamus species, and was eliminated from consideration as a possible barcode. The trnH-psbA spacer had the most variation, followed by matK and rbcL. No separations between intraspecific variation and interspecific divergence (barcoding gaps) were found in the remaining candidate barcodes. At the species level, the discrimination rates of the candidate barcodes based on neighbor-joining (NJ) trees were significantly different: matK (37.5%), rbcL (6.3%), trnH-psbA (56.3%), matK + rbcL (43.8%) and matK + rbcL + trnH-psbA (62.5%). Furthermore, the discrimination rates of trnH-psbA would improve to 91.7%, if the varieties of C. nambariensis and C. yunnanensis were treated as one species in the NJ tree. Thus, trnH-psbA may be an appropriate single DNA barcode for Calamus useful in the species identification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dendrocalamus membranaceus Munro is a woody bamboo with a high economic and ecological value that often occurs as natural stands, such as in the large-scale forested areas of China's Yunnan Province. Due to its overexploitation, the habitat of D. membranaceus in Yunnan has been dramatically reduced, and the quality of the stands has declined. As a preliminary analysis in considering the effective protection for these germplasm resources, we assessed the genetic diversity of 12 natural populations in Yunnan, using inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers. From 10 ISSR primers, we generated 155 bands, of which 153 were polymorphic (98.71%). Compared with other species in the genus, this species demonstrated a greater genetic diversity (S = 0.349) and lower genetic differentiation (GST = 0.252). Our analysis of molecular variance revealed that the genetic differentiation among the populations is significant. A large proportion of the genetic variation (78.95%) resides among the individuals within populations, whereas only 21.05% are found among populations. Mantel tests indicated no significant correlation between genetic and geographic distances among the populations. Given the low sexual reproducibility and characteristics of monocarpic plants, we recommend implementing in situ conservation measures for all of the D. membranaceus populations in Yunnan and collecting sufficient samples for ex situ conservation. Background: Evidence has emerged that altered ventricular electrocardiogram profiles are associated with dementia, but the neuropathological mechanisms underlying their associations are poorly understood. Objective: To investigate the interrelationships of ventricular electrocardiogram profiles with dementia and plasma Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers among older adults. Methods: This population-based cross-sectional study included 5,153 participants (age ≥65 years; 57.3% women) living in rural communities in China; of these, 1,281 had data on plasma amyloid-β (Aβ)40, Aβ42, total-tau, and neurofilament light chain (NfL) protein. The QT, QTc, JT, JTc, QRS intervals, and QRS axis were derived from the 10-second electrocardiogram recording. The DSM-IV criteria were followed for clinical diagnosis of dementia, the NIA-AA criteria for AD, and the NINDS-AIREN criteria for vascular dementia (VaD). Data were analyzed using general linear models, multinomial logistic models, and restricted cubic splines. Results: Of the 5,153 participants, 299 (5.8%) were diagnosed with dementia, including 194 with AD and 94 with VaD. Prolonged QT, QTc, JT, and JTc intervals were significantly associated with all-cause dementia, AD, and VaD (p < 0.05). Left QRS axis deviation was significantly associated with all-cause dementia and VaD (p < 0.01). In the subsample of plasma biomarkers (n = 1,281), prolonged QT, JT, and JTc intervals were significantly associated with a lower Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio and higher plasma NfL concentrations (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Alterations in ventricular repolarization and depolarization are independently associated with all-cause dementia, AD, VaD, and AD plasma biomarkers in older adults (age ≥65 years). Sedentary behaviour is associated with a range of adverse health conditions. Population-based studies have rarely examined the distribution and associated factors of accelerometer-measured sedentary behaviour patterns in rural-dwelling older adults. This population-based study included 2096 rural-dwelling older adults (age ≥60 years; 59.0% women) derived from baseline participants of the MIND-China Study. Total sedentary time and patterns (e.g., uninterrupted bouts and breaks) were derived from the hip-worn accelerometers for 7 days. Physical function was assessed using the Short Physical Performance Battery test. Data were analysed using general linear models. Overall, participants spent 58.8% of daily waking time in sedentary behaviour, with nearly half of sedentary time being accumulated through sedentary bouts of 30+ minutes. Men spent more total and accumulated sedentary time than women in each sedentary bout duration, while women had more daily 1+ minute sedentary bouts than men (all P < 0.001). Controlling for moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and other confounders, more prolonged sedentary time and fewer breaks were significantly associated with poor physical function, balance, lower limb strength, and walking speed (all P < 0.001). Depicting the driving characteristics of heavy-duty trucks (HDTs) under segmented usage scenarios is essential for their optimization design. This work presents a novel HDT driving cycle construction framework based on big data under segmented usage scenarios. To validate it, sixty million driving data of three thousand HDTs were collected, based on which six segmented cycles of two typical classes of HDTs (i.e., dump trucks and truck-tractors) are constructed. Then, systematic analyses between six segmented cycles are conducted, and the constructed cycles are compared to the legislated driving cycles in China (CHTC). The results indicate that the constructed driving cycles can well represent real-world driving data, and the cycle-specific fuel consumption from simulations accord with the empirics. It is found that segmented usage scenarios significantly affect the driving behaviors of HDTs. Furthermore, the constructed segmented driving cycles are superior over CHTC in the prediction accuracy of driving characteristics and fuel consumption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Increasing mining depths and intensities have resulted in frequent accidents during roadway excavation, thus increasing the necessity of preemptively determining the geological conditions of rock formations along roadways. Identifying the spatial distributions of lithotypes and the mechanical properties of non-marker bed intervals in coal measure strata are crucial for roadway horizon design, roof management, and efficient excavation. Therefore, based on petrophysical tests, well logging, and seismic data, a comprehensive method is proposed, which uses post-stack wave impedance inversion, petrophysical statistical analyses, and pre-stack simultaneous inversion to predict the lithology and elastic parameters of rocks surrounding roadways. The lithology of the target layer is first divided according to the wave impedances of the inversion body, and the sand lenses within the mudstone interval are described. Based on petrophysical test data, the shear-wave conversion equations of the sand lenses in this target interval and background mudstone are then obtained via marginal limit extrapolation. Finally, pre-stack simultaneous inversion, based on the seismic data and shear-wave conversion curves of different lithologies, is performed to obtain the elastic parameter profile of the target interval in the cross-section of the roadway, laying the foundation for further prediction of the mechanical properties of the surrounding rocks. Purpose: To estimate the prevalence, causes and risk factors of bilateral visual impairment in rural areas of Tianjin, China. Methods: A large population‐based, cross‐sectional study. A stratified random cluster sampling method was used to investigate 12 233 participants in all age groups living in rural Tianjin. Participants completed questionnaires and received professional ophthalmology examinations. Results: According to World Health Organization best‐corrected visual acuity (BCVA) criteria, the crude prevalence of bilateral visual impairment (BCVA < 20/63), bilateral low vision (BCVA < 20/63 to ≥20/400) and bilateral blindness (BCVA < 20/400) was 2.53%, 2.40% and 0.14% (age‐ and gender‐standardized prevalence was 1.86%, 1.76% and 0.11%). The prevalence increased with age and was higher in women than men. The most common causes of bilateral visual impairment in the total population were cataract (48.39%), refractive error/amblyopia (17.74%), age‐related macular degeneration (AMD) (10.00%), diabetic retinopathy (5.81%) and glaucoma (3.87%). For participants younger than 50 years, refractive error/amblyopia was the leading cause of low vision and blindness, while cataract was the major cause in the participants over 50. Female gender, older age and self‐reported diabetes were associated with increased risks of visual impairment. Conclusion: The age‐ and gender‐standardized prevalence of low vision, especially in the older group (50+), was higher in this study compared with previous studies in China. Refractive error/amblyopia was the leading cause of bilateral visual impairment in younger group, while cataract was the primary cause in the older group. As soybean plays an indispensable role in the supply of vegetable oil and protein, balancing the relationship between seed quality and yield traits according to human demand has become an important breeding goal for soybean improvement. Here, 256 intraspecific recombinant inbred lines (RILs), derived from a cross between Qi Huang No.34 (QH34) and Ji Dou No.17 (JD17), were used for quantitative trait loci (QTLs) mapping with remarkable four chemical and physical properties with a purpose for exploring the distribution of excellent alleles in germplasm resources in China. A total of 25 QTLs were detected, of which 10 QTLs inherited the alleles from the parent QH34. Pedigree research on favorable alleles on these QTLs showed the process of excellent alleles pyramided into QH34. Meta-analysis of the 25 QTLs by comparing with existed QTLs in previous study identified 17 novel QTLs. QTLs with pleiotropic effects have been detected. Furthermore, three representative elite recombinant inbred lines in different locations that have great potential in soybean breeding were selected, and finally, four seed weight-related candidate genes were identified. The discovery of these QTLs provides a new guidance for combining the diversity and rarity of germplasm resources, which can effectively increase population genetic diversity and broaden genetic basis of varieties. Abstract Extreme hydrologic events such as floods have caused catastrophic losses to modern human society, especially in highly developed coastal areas. However, high-resolution reconstructions of extreme flood events are scarce due to a paucity of suitable proxies in marginal seas. Here we present a high-resolution record of extreme flood events in the Changjiang River catchment during the last 110 years using samples from the subaqueous delta of Changjiang River estuary. We used a multi-proxy approach including Sr-Nd isotopes, Zr/Rb ratio and biomarkers (branched GDGTs, i.e. brGDGTs, and crenarchaeol, and the ratio of the two as calculated by the BIT index) as proxies for the evolution of extreme floods in the Changjiang River catchment. Rapid shifts in these proxies agreed with the timing of floods on the Changjiang River. We also tested the reliability of biomarker indices to reconstruct paleoflood events in this area. The results indicated that the abundances of GDGTs fluctuated in concert with historical floods. Cross-spectral analyses revealed that historical floods in the Changjiang River catchment were consistent with ENSO variance. Fabry disease (FD) is an important underlying condition in young cryptogenic stroke patients and has also been implicated in cerebral small vessel disease. However, the contributions of causative GLA mutations in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) remain unclear. In this study, GLA sequences were analyzed in a Chinese ICH cohort comprising 373 patients with computed tomography-confirmed ICH and 563 in-house controls and East Asians from public databases. Only one previously reported mutation, p. Ala15Val, responsible for Fabry disease was identified in a female patient with nonlobar ICH. Therefore, this definitive GLA mutation accounted for 0.27% (1/373) of Chinese patients with ICH. Another functional variant, rs2071225 (c.-10C>T), was present at minor allele frequency (MAF) of 9.1%, indicating no association with ICH, despite a trend of an association for male patients with lobar ICH. Tectonism is one of the most important factors controlling the formation of sedimentary stratigraphy in lacustrine rift basins, but the controlling effects need to be further clarified. Based on 2D and 3D seismic data, well logs, logging data, and core data from the Saihantala Sag, our study aimed to analyse the fault system of the sag, determine its tectonic evolution process, establish the faulting pattern of the sag, recognise its depositional systems, and finally discuss the relationships between the tectonic factors and the basin evolution and sediment filling process. Four types of depositional systems including fan-delta, braided-delta, near-shore subaqueous fan and lacustrine deposits were recognized in the Saihantala Sag based on an integrated analysis of the well logs, cores and seismic data. The results indicated that 1) The Xilin fault is the eastern boundary fault of the Saihantala Sag, and its subsections and connections controlled the stratigraphic pattern of the sag. 2) tectonic evolution controlled the evolution of the lake basin and depositional systems in the Saihantala Sag, especially the deposition of near-shore subaqueous fan and the connection and retrogradation of braided-delta and fan-delta systems. 3) The tectonic evolution also controlled the filling pattern of the Saihantala Sag, which features two sets of braided-delta deposits in its gentle slope belt and one set of fan-delta deposits and two sets of near-shore sub-lacustrine fan deposits in its steep slope belt. 4) All three tectonic belts (Zhabu, Yihe and Saisi) mainly experienced a middle-late activated single-cycle faulting pattern, which controlled the distribution of braided-delta front deposits and lenticular sandy bodies. • Tectonic evolution process of three key tectonic belts in the Lower Cretaceous Saihantala sag were established. • Depositional systems including fan-delta, braided-delta, near-shore subaqueous fan and lacustrine deposits were recognised. • Fault system of the sag were divided, and its faulting patterns were determined. • The controlling effects of tectonic on basin evolution and sediments filling process in lacustrine rift basin were discussed. To further reveal plutonium transport and scavenging processes within the sediments of the East China Sea (ECS), this study analyzed spatial variations of plutonium in surface sediments and explored factors influencing the spatial pattern of Pu in the ECS. From the perspective of the whole ECS, the 239+240Pu concentrations and 240Pu/239Pu atom ratios increased with the distance from the river mouth but decreased toward the outer shelf. Additionally, high 240Pu/239Pu atom ratios could be seen along the flow direction of the Changjiang Diluted Water. The results indicated that under the influence of regional hydrodynamics, the spatial pattern of Pu in the ECS may be consistent with the dispersal of the Yangtze River-derived sediments. The source of Pu from PPG (Pacific Proving Ground) transported by the North Equatorial Current and the Kuroshio Current in the Yangtze River estuary was 41%.
