This study proposed and validated a mediation model based on the nearest developmental zone and mediation concepts of sociocultural theory to explore the mediating role of emotional intelligence and ethnic categories between teacher-student relationships and feedback literacy among high school students in Tibetan areas of China. A questionnaire survey was administered to 422 Tibetan high school students (including 136 Han Chinese students and 286 Tibetan students) using the Feedback Literacy Scale, the Teacher-Student Relationship Scale, and the Emotional Intelligence Scale. The results showed that teacher-student relationships of high school students in Tibetan areas significantly and positively predicted their feedback literacy. The result of the mediation model analysis indicated that the emotional intelligence of high school students in Tibetan areas partially mediated the effect between teacher-student relationships and feedback literacy. In addition, the moderated mediation model analysis indicated that the teacher-student relationship had a stronger effect on feedback literacy through emotional intelligence for Han Chinese high school students than for Tibetan high school students. The present findings not only enrich our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the influence of teacher-student relationships and feedback literacy, but also reveal the differential role played by ethnic categories. The study also provides a discussion of the results, corresponding recommendations, and directions for future research.

Background: Studies have shown the positive impact of perceived social support on cognitive function among older adults in rural areas. However, existing studies often overlook the impact of different support sources. This study aimed to explore the relationship between the diverse sources of perceived social support and cognitive function. Methods: Participants were drawn from the Guizhou Rural Older Adults' Health Study (HSRO) in China. We included 791 participants who participated in a baseline survey in 2019 and a 3-year follow-up survey. Perceived social support was investigated from the six main sources (friend, relative, children, spouse, sibling, and neighbor). Hierarchical linear regression models were used to observe the effects of diverse sources of perceived social support and their combinations on cognitive function. Results: Cognitive function was positively associated with perceived support from children, friends, and neighbors. A positive association was found between cognitive function and increases in each additional source [ß = 0.75 (95%CI: 0.51, 0.98), p < 0.001]. Older adults who perceived support from both children and friends showed better cognitive function [ß = 2.53 (95%CI: 1.35, 3.72), p < 0.001]. The perception of support from spouse, siblings, and relatives did not show a statistically significant association with cognitive function among older adults in rural areas. Conclusion: This study found that the association between different sources of perceived social support and cognitive function was varied. Gastric cancer is highly prevalent in China, yet early diagnosis and overall survival rates are low. The primary treatment strategy is comprehensive therapy centered on surgery. Studies indicate that neoadjuvant chemotherapy can enhance radical resection rates and extend survival in locally advanced gastric cancer. Combining VEGFR inhibitors with chemotherapy improves efficacy in digestive system tumors, while PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors combined with anti-angiogenesis agents or chemotherapy show synergistic effects. This report presents a case of gastric adenocarcinoma (cT3N1M0) treated with SOX, apatinib mesylate, and camrelizumab as neoadjuvant therapy, followed by D2 distal gastrectomy and postoperative adjuvant therapy with the same regimen. The patient completed all treatment cycles successfully. Post-neoadjuvant therapy, only focal residual cancer cells were found in the lamina propria (pT1a). During postoperative adjuvant therapy follow-up, gastroscopic biopsy indicated a pathological complete response with no recurrence or metastasis. The patient primarily experienced dyspepsia, oropharyngeal pain, capillary proliferation, mild bone marrow suppression, nausea, and vomiting as side effects. The theoretical aim of this paper is to articulate a novel analytical framework that makes sense of our interlocutors' apparently conflicting claims about the reality of meritocracy in China. The theoretical argument is rooted in ethnographic fieldwork conducted in a Chinese high school, where teachers and working-class students live under the shadows of the demanding and high-stakes university entrance exam (the gaokao). How is it possible to preserve the outwardly inconsistent positions (1) that the gaokao is egalitarian and, thus, fair and (2) that students' much wealthier counterparts have significantly higher probabilities of success when compared to poorer students? This article argues for the possibility of dynamism in epistemic standards, suggesting that belief in structural systems like meritocracy might be founded in cognitive attempts to maintain the aims of ethical life. This article presents the findings of a 13-year retrospective study on the sensitization profiles of aeroallergens among allergic rhinitis (AR) patients in China. The study included 16,664 patients from three different centers. The most common aeroallergens were house dust mites, cockroaches, mustard plants, and maple trees. Children had a higher sensitization rate than adults, and AR patients with asthma had a higher sensitization rate than AR patients without asthma. The sensitization rates of the aeroallergens changed significantly from 2009 to 2021, with different trends observed in the three centers. The study provides valuable information on prevalent aeroallergens in China and proposes a panel of five aeroallergens for the diagnosis of AR. [Extracted from the article]

The western population of the red‐crowned crane Grus japonensis in mainland China has been decreasing in the past few decades and wild population enhancement programmes have been launched in this country. First, 14 captive‐bred red‐crowned cranes were released into the core area of Yancheng National Nature Reserve for Rare Birds (YNNR), one of the most important wintering areas of this species, in 2013 (seven individuals) and 2015 (seven individuals) and then 8 more captive‐bred cranes were released into YNNR from February 2022 to February 2023. We used satellite positioning and drone monitoring to study the status of released cranes. The results showed that two individuals (No. BJZ001 and BJZ008) from the first group of released cranes were found breeding in 6 of 7 years in the YNNR from 2017 to 2023. Three individuals (No. WNNR022, WNNR025 and WNNR026) from the second group of released cranes were recorded breeding in YNNR in 2023. All released cranes lived in the YNNR year round and did not migrate with wild cranes. Raccoon dogs, Nyctereutes procyonoides, were first recorded as red‐crowned crane nest predators in the YNNR. Although these released cranes breed successfully in the YNNR, nestlings might face the threat of predators in non‐traditional breeding areas. Further research is needed to determine whether offsprings of released individuals migrate with wild cranes and if breeding in their original wintering grounds is truly beneficial for population growth. Rich and diverse fungal species occur in different habitats on the earth. Many new taxa are being reported and described in increasing numbers with the advent of molecular phylogenetics. However, there are still a number of unknown fungi that have not yet been discovered and described. During a survey of fungal diversity in different habitats in China, we identified and proposed two new species, based on the morphology and multi-gene phylogenetic analyses. Taking the tourism and related industry companies listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen of China from 2006 to 2019 as samples, this paper examines the impact of board interlock on corporate risk-taking and its micro-mechanism. Empirical evidence shows that board interlock can significantly improve corporate risk-taking, but the degree of influence varies from industry to industry. For the external risk sensitivity of industry, in the industry with high external risk sensitivity, the "quantity embedding" of interlocking directors has a stronger promoting effect on enterprise risk-taking. However, in industries with low external risk sensitivity, the "quality embedding" of interlocking directors has a stronger promoting effect on enterprise risk-taking. For the degree of industry competition, the more intense the industry competition, the stronger the role of board interlocks in promoting enterprise risk-taking. Background With the spread of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2) pandemic in schools and communities, clinical evidence is needed to determine the impact of the pandemic and public health interventions under the zero coronavirus disease policy on the occurrence of common infectious diseases and non-infectious diseases among children. Methods The current study was designed to analyse the occurrence of common infectious diseases before and after the pandemic outbreak in southern China. Data was obtained for 1801728 patients admitted into children’s hospitals in Guangzhou between January 2017 and July 2022. Regression analysis was performed for data analysis. Results The annual occurrence of common paediatric infectious diseases remarkably decreased after the pandemic compared to the baseline before the pandemic and the monthly occurrence. Cases per month of common paediatric infectious diseases were significantly lower in five periods during the local outbreak when enhanced public health measures were in place. Cases of acute non-infectious diseases such as bone fractures were not reduced. Non-pharmaceutical interventions decreased annual and monthly cases of paediatric respiratory and intestinal infections during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, especially when enhanced public health interventions were in place. Conclusions Our findings provide clinical evidence that public health interventions under the dynamic zero COVID policy in the past three years had significant impacts on the occurrence of common respiratory and intestinal infectious diseases among children and adolescents but little impact on reducing non-infectious diseases such as leukaemia and bone fracture. Hydrological modeling is a crucial component in hydrology research, particularly for projecting future scenarios. However, achieving reproducibility and automation in distributed hydrological modeling research for modeling, simulation, and analysis is challenging. This paper introduces rSHUD v2.0, an innovative, open-source toolkit developed in the R environment to enhance the deployment and analysis of the Simulator for Hydrologic Unstructured Domains (SHUD). The SHUD is an integrated surface-subsurface hydrological model that employs a finite volume method to simulate hydrological processes at various scales. The rSHUD toolkit includes pre- and post-processing tools, facilitating reproducibility and automation in hydrological modeling. The utility of rSHUD is demonstrated through case studies of the Shale Hills Critical Zone Observatory in the USA and the Waerma Watershed in China. The rSHUD toolkit's ability to quickly and automatically deploy models while ensuring reproducibility has facilitated the implementation of the Global Hydrological Data Cloud (https://shuddata.com), a platform for automatic data processing and model deployment. The large population movement during the Spring Festival travel in China can considerably accelerate the spread of epidemics, especially after the relaxation of strict control measures against COVID-19. This study aims to assess the impact of population migration in Spring Festival holiday on epidemic spread under different scenarios. Using inter-city population movement data, we construct the population flow network during the non-holiday time as well as the Spring Festival holiday. We build a large-scale metapopulation model to simulate the epidemic spread among 371 Chinese cities. We analyze the impact of Spring Festival travel on the peak timing and peak magnitude nationally and in each city. Assuming an R0 (basic reproduction number) of 15 and the initial conditions as the reported COVID-19 infections on 17 December 2022, model simulations indicate that the Spring Festival travel can substantially increase the national peak magnitude of infection. The infection peaks arrive at most cities 1–4 days earlier as compared to those of the non-holiday time. While peak infections in certain large cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai, are decreased due to the massive migration of people to smaller cities during the pre-Spring Festival period, peak infections increase significantly in small- or medium-sized cities. For a less transmissible disease (R0 = 5), infection peaks in large cities are delayed until after the Spring Festival. Small- or medium-sized cities may experience a larger infection due to the large-scale population migration from metropolitan areas. The increased disease burden may impose considerable strain on the healthcare systems in these resource-limited areas. River hydrology is an important proxy for changes in river runoff and an important factor affecting the ecology of rivers. To quantitatively evaluate the hydrology of the Wuijang River basin, this paper uses various tests to analyze runoff. The IHA-RVA method combined with FDC ecohydrological indicators was used to evaluate the hydrology of the Wuijang River basin and to analyze and calculate the contribution of human activities and climate change to runoff. The results show that (1) the runoff in the Wujiang River basin has shown a decreasing trend over the years, with a sudden change in 2005 and mainly two inter-annual cycles; (2) the overall hydrological change in runoff is 48%, which is a moderate change; (3) The changes in FDC ecological indicators are significantly correlated with rainfall, and the correlation between FDC ecological indicators and IHA hydrological indicators is strong; (4) human activities are the main influencing factors of runoff changes in the Wujiang River. Schistosoma japonicum causes serious pathological organ damage and alteration of the intestinal microbiome in the mammalian host, threatening the health of millions of people in China. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens has been reported to be able to alleviate the damage to the gut and liver and maintain the homeostasis of the intestinal microenvironment. However, it was unclear whether B. amyloliquefaciens could alleviate the hepatic and intestinal symptoms caused by S. japonicum. In this study, the intragastric administration of B. amyloliquefaciens was performed to treat S. japonicum-infected mice during the acute phase. Histopathological analysis and 16S rRNA gene sequencing were used to evaluate the pathological damage and changes in the intestinal microbiome. The results of the study showed that B. amyloliquefaciens treatment significantly reduced the degree of granuloma and fibrosis in infected mice. Additionally, recovery of diversity in the intestinal microbiome, decrease in the relative abundance of potential pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia-Shigella, and reshaping of the interactive network between genera in the intestine were also observed after treatment with B. amyloliquefaciens. Our findings indicated that treatment with B. amyloliquefaciens effectively alleviated the pathological injuries of the liver and intestine in mice infected with S. japonicum by modulating the intestinal microbiome, implying that this probiotic can function as an effective therapeutic agent against schistosomiasis. The nuclei of continents, manifested as cratons, are the most long-lived parts of Earth's lithosphere. However, ancient cratons in some areas can be substantially destroyed through mechanisms that are not fully understood. We used experimentally calibrated geobarometers to calculate the equilibrium pressures of mafic magmas in the North China craton, which directly constrain the evolving depth of the lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary beneath the craton through time. We show that the lithospheric thickness of the eastern part of the craton decreased from ~200 km to ~35 km in the Early Cretaceous. This intense destruction took place within a short time interval of ~10 m.y., at least locally. Following this destruction, the lithosphere gradually rethickened and stabilized as the upwelling asthenosphere cooled and formed a juvenile lithosphere. We suggest that this catastrophic lithosphere thinning resulted from wholesale lithosphere delamination. As a consequence of this catastrophic loss of thick mantle roots, the eastern part of the North China craton may have undergone rapid crustal rebound and surface uplift, as recorded by the regional unconformities formed between 130 and 120 Ma in the destructed area. The Wei River catchment in the southern part of the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP), is one of the centers of the agricultural revolution in China. The area has experienced intense land use changes since ~6000 BCE, which makes it an ideal place to study the response of fluvial systems to anthropogenic land cover change (ALCC). We applied a numerical landscape evolution model that combines the Landlab landscape evolution model with an evapotranspiration model to investigate the direct and indirect effects of ALCC on hydrological and morphological processes in the Wei River catchment since the mid-Holocene. The results show that ALCC not only leads to changes in discharge and sediment load in the catchment but also affects their sensitivity to climate change. When the proportion of agricultural land area exceeded 50 % (around 1000 BCE), the sensitivities of discharge and sediment yield to climate change increased abruptly indicating a regime change in the fluvial catchment. It is associated with a large sediment pulse in the lower reaches. The model simulation results also show a link between human settlement, ALCC and floodplain development: Changes in agricultural land use changes lead to downstream sediment accumulation and floodplain development, which in turn leads to further spatial expansion of agriculture and human settlement. Cryptomeria japonica var. sinensis Miquel in south China is currently overwhelmingly infested by a native caterpillar species, Dendrolimus houi (Lepidoptera), which is causing severe economic losses and ecological disasters in both planted and natural forests. Our results include report of five parasitoid species and eight parasitoid flies within D. houi and a dominant endoparasitoid species Kriechbaumerella dendrolimi, which attacks pupae of D. houi with a high parasitism rate. This result might be helpful to improve better identification and application in the future for potential biological control of D. houi in the forests of east Asia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The goal of this study was to simplify the smoking rationalization belief (SRB) scale among Chinese male smokers and provide a convenient measuring tool with good reliability and validity to promote the assessment and further intervention of SRB among smokers. Methods: Through purposive sampling, a questionnaire survey was conducted among adult male smokers in three districts in Shanghai, and 1,307 valid questionnaires were collected. Exploratory factor analysis was used to analyze the simplified scale, and Pearson correlation analysis, multiple linear regression, and Cronbach’s α were used to test the reliability and validity of the simplified scale. Results: The SRB scale was simplified from 26 items to 8 items and had good overall reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0.757). There was a strong correlation between the simplified scale and the original scale (P < 0.001, r = 0.911), and the scores of SRB measured by the two scales were both negatively associated with a willingness to quit smoking (P < 0.001), which reflected the practical effectiveness of the simplified version. Conclusion: The simplified version of the SRB scale showed good reliability and validity among Chinese smokers, which facilitates smoking cessation-related research and practice. Introduction: The immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) has been approved as the firstline therapy for metastatic gastric cancer in China. The treatment response of immune checkpoint inhibitor is highly dependent on the immune condition within the tumor microenvironment. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has a long history in cancer treatment, and recent studies showed it had an immunomodulatory effect on the tumor. Here we will conduct a trial to assess whether or not a combination with Photodynamic therapy will improve the outcomes of immune checkpoint inhibitor-based treatment in patients with advanced or metastatic gastric cancer. Methods: This study is a single-center, open-label, randomized controlled, phase 2-3 trial. Patients (18-65 years old) with untreated gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma will be eligible for this trial. Sixty participants will be enrolled and randomly divided into the test group (n = 30) and control group (n = 30) to receive photodynamic therapy in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitor plus chemotherapy and immune checkpoint inhibitor plus chemotherapy, respectively. The primary is progression-free survival (PFS). The secondary outcomes include objective response rates (ORRs) and the occurrence of adverse events. In addition, we will also assess the changes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and tumor microenvironment after photodynamic therapy treatment in the test group. Evaluation of the tumor response will be performed every two cycles for a maximum of eight cycles. Discussion: Photodynamic therapy has an immunomodulatory effect on the tumor microenvironment; however, this has not been demonstrated for gastric cancer in a clinical trial. Based on our experience of photodynamic therapy treatment in digestive tract tumors, we plan to conduct a randomized controlled trial on this topic. This will be the first study to evaluate the synergistic effect of photodynamic therapy with immunochemotherapy for patients with advanced gastric cancer. Background: Lung cancer is a major public health issue and an enormous burden on society in China. Most lung cancers occur in elderly patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and many factors limit their treatment options. Chemotherapy-free therapy can avoid psychological fear, treatment pain, and adverse reactions caused by chemotherapy. Patients with non-small cell lung cancer with tumour protein p53 (TP53) gene mutations or Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homologue (KRAS) gene mutations tend to be more sensitive to anlotinib or programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) drugs. However, Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homologue is a proto-oncogene downstream of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene; therefore, if the Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homologue gene has an activating mutation, EGFR-targeted drug resistance may occur. Further studies are needed to explore whether patients with dual Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homologue and tumour protein p53 mutations can be treated with targeted immunotherapy without chemotherapy. Case presentation: A 74-year-old man was referred to the Lanzhou University Second Hospital due to chest tightness, shortness of breath, and weight loss for 2 months and was diagnosed with moderately to poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. Laboratory examinations showed increased alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cancer antigen (CA)-125, and CA199 levels, and gene sequencing indicated mutations in Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homologue and tumour protein p53. Immunohistochemical analysis showed positive PD-L1 and PD-1 expression. Peripheral blood immune checkpoint test using flow cytometry indicated that the PD-1 + CD8 levels were positive. After multi-disciplinary treatment, therapy with a combination of anlotinib and camrelizumab was initiated. Camrelizumab 200 mg was administered intravenously once every 3 weeks. Anlotinib 12 mg was administered orally daily before breakfast for 2 weeks with a week of rest in every cycle of 21 days. A reduction in alpha-fetoprotein, carcinoembryonic antigen, CA125, CA199, and CA724 levels was observed up to the first cycle, which decreased within the normal limits up to the second cycle and continued until the eighteenth cycle. The patient's chest tightness, shortness of breath, weight loss, and other symptoms significantly improved following treatment. Computed tomography imaging showed that the neoplastic lesion was dramatically reduced. The patient is currently being followed-up for more than 2 years to evaluate the duration of the response. Conclusion: Chemotherapy-free immunotherapy combined with targeted therapy is an effective treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer in elderly patients with Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homologue and tumour protein p53 mutations. Escherichia coli ranks as the number one clinical isolate in the past years in China according to The China Antimicrobial Surveillance Network (CHINET), and its multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogenic strains account for over 160 million cases of dysentery and one million deaths per year. Here, our work demonstrates that E. coli is highly sensitive to the synergistic combination of SBC3 [1,3-Dibenzyl-4,5-diphenyl-imidazol-2-ylidene silver (I) acetate] and Ebselen, which shows no synergistic toxicity on mammalian cells. The proposed mechanism for the synergistic antibacterial effect of SBC3 in combination with Ebselen is based on directly inhibiting E. coli thioredoxin reductase and rapidly depleting glutathione, resulting in the increase of reactive oxygen species that cause bacterial cell death. Furthermore, the bactericidal efficacy of SBC3 in combination with Ebselen has been confirmed in mild and acute peritonitis mice. In addition, the five most difficult to treat Gram-negative bacteria (including E. coli, Acinetobacter baumannii, Enterobacter cloacae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) are also highly sensitive to a synergistic combination of SBC3 and Ebselen. Background: Acupuncture is widely used as adjuvant therapy for major depressive disorder (MDD). There is robust evidence that inflammation is closely associated with MDD. To date, only a few numbers of studies have investigated the potential relationship between acupuncture and the change of inflammatory biomarkers in patients with MDD. Additionally, the results are inconsistent among studies. The current study aims to provide a comprehensive, systematic review of the association between acupuncture and changes in peripheral inflammation of patients with MDD, and clarify the alterations of inflammatory cytokines before and after acupuncture treatment by meta-analysis. Methods and analysis: This study will be conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting acupuncture, with inflammatory cytokines as the outcome measured before and after intervention in patients with MDD, were searched in electronic databases, such as PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, SINOMED, Wanfang, China national knowledge infrastructure (CNKI), and Chongqing VIP (CQVIP). Primary outcomes of interest will be validated to measure the levels of inflammatory cytokines before and after acupuncture treatment in patients with MDD. Background Freshwater fungi are an integral part of freshwater ecosystems. They promote the carbon cycle of the ecosystem by decomposing wood substrates. Menisporopsis is a fungal genus of Chaetosphaeriales in Sordariomycetes, which has been commonly collected from aquatic and marine environments. Most species of this genus are saprophytes. New information Here, a new freshwater hyphomycetous fungus, Menisporopsis aquatica, reported from submerged rotten wood samples collected in a stream in Zhejiang Province, south-eastern China. The new species is characterised by hyaline conidia appendiculate with 1-2 setulae at each end and synnematous conidiophores growing closely around a black central seta. Molecular phylogeny of Menisporopsis was studied using a combined two-loci dataset, including the internal transcribed spacer sequences (ITS) and the nuclear ribosomal large subunit gene sequences (nrLSU). Land use change stemming from human activities, particularly cropland expansion, heavily threatens the survival of crop wild relatives that usually occur nearby or scatter in farming systems. Understanding the impacts of land use change on wild populations is critical in forming the conservation decisionmaking of wild relatives. Based on the investigations on the population survival of three wild rice species (Oryza rufipogon, O. officinalis, and O. granulata) in China over the past 40 years (1978-2019), the effect of land use change during the past 20 years (2001-2019) on the natural populations of the three species was examined using the land use type data of satellite-based Earth observations (data from GlobCover). From 1978 to 2019, the number of populations (distribution sites) of the three wild rice species had decreased by 65-87%, mainly because of the habitat destruction or disappearance caused by human-induced land use change. The three wild rice species display different habitat preferences, resulting in specific land use types surrounding their populations. In the recent 20 years, although the surrounding community composition of the wild rice population has been relatively stable, the surrounding vegetation cover area of the survived populations was significantly more extensive than that of the extinct ones (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that habitat vegetation plays a "biological barrier" role in the survival of wild populations through resisting or mitigating the disturbing impact of land use change on wild populations. This study provides not only direct guidelines for the conservation of wild rice but also new insights into the mechanisms underlying the influence of land use change on wild populations. The aim of the present work is to focus on the increased number of criminal crimes from the perspective of the rising housing price in China. Based on the theory of crime economics, the article analyzed the direct and indirect influence channel through which the housing prices may have impacts on criminal crimes. The paper collected the panel data of 27 province-level regions in China from 2004 to 2017 and verified the hypotheses by using fixed effect model, mediating effect model and spatial Dubin model. Our study offered the following conclusions: 1. The rise in housing price is a generative impetus for the frequent occurrence of the criminal offenses. 2. Consumption gap serves as the mediating variable between housing price and criminal crime. 3. There is a spatial correlation between housing price and criminal crime in China. Clavicipitaceous fungi are pathogenic to scale insects, white flies and other insect orders. However, a few species are spider-associated. Two new genera from China, Neoaraneomyces and Pseudometarhizium, are described based on phylogenetic, ecological and morphological characteristics. Two spider-associated species, Neoaraneomyces araneicola, Pseudometarhizium araneogenum, and an insect-associated species Pseudometarhizium lepidopterorum are included. The morphological characteristics of paecilomyces-like conidiogenous structures, present in many insect/spiders associated species make species-level identifications difficult. A phylogenetic analysis of the combined dataset (ITS, LSU, RPB2 and TEF), placed the two new genera in Clavicipitaceae. The new spider-associated species may be the result of convergent evolution to adapt to the ecological environment and may have undergone host jumping or altered their nutritional preferences. Using chicken feathers as bait, Acremonium globosisporum sp. nov. and Acremonium curvum sp. nov. were collected from the soil of Yuncheng East Garden Wildlife Zoo and Zhengzhou Zoo in China. They were identified by combining the morphological characteristics and the two-locus DNA sequence (LSU and ITS) analyses. In the phylogenetic tree, both new species clustered into separate subclades, respectively. They were different from their allied species in their morphology. Red tilapia (Oreochromis spp.) is one of the most popular fish in China due to its bright red appearance, fast growth rate, and strong adaptability. Understanding the sex determination mechanisms is of vital importance for the selection of all-male lines to increase aquacultural production of red tilapia. In this research, the genetic architecture for sex from four mapping populations (n=1 090) of red tilapia was analyzed by quantitative trait loci (QTL)-seq, linkage-based QTL mapping, and linkage disequilibrium (LD)-based genome-wide association studies. Two genome-wide significant QTL intervals associated with sex were identified on ChrLG1 (22.4–23.9 Mb) and ChrLG23 (32.0–35.9 Mb), respectively. The QTL on ChrLG1 was detected in family 1 (FAM1), FAM2, and FAM4, and the other QTL on ChrLG23 was detected in FAM3 and FAM4. Four microsatellite markers located within the QTL were successfully developed for marker-assisted selection. Interestingly, three (lpp, sox14, and amh) of the 12 candidate genes located near or on the two QTL intervals were abundantly expressed in males, while the remaining genes were more highly expressed in females. Seven genes (scly, ube3a, lpp, gpr17, oca2, cog4, and atp10a) were significantly differentially expressed between the male and female groups. Furthermore, LD block analysis suggested that a cluster of genes on ChrLG23 may participate in regulating sex development in red tilapia. Our study provides important information on the genetic architecture of sex in red tilapia and should facilitate further exploration of sex determination mechanisms in this species. Evapotranspiration is an essential element of the hydrological process. This study derived the long-term series of evapotranspiration from 1982 to 2014 over the three basins, namely source regions of the Yangtze River (SRYR), the Huang River (SRHR) and the Lancang River (SRLR) in the Three-River Source Region of China by integrating multiple sources of evapotranspiration estimates based on the Bayesian model averaging approach, which made full use of the strengths of land surface models and satellite-based products to constrain uncertainties. Then, we analyzed the influences of climate change on evapotranspiration based on the partial least squares regression model. Results indicate that (1) the agreement between various evapotranspiration products and water balance-derived evapotranspiration estimates varies from region to region in the Three-River Source Region of China; (2) annual evapotranspiration increases in the SRYR (3.3±0.8 mm/yr) and the SRHR (0.8±0.4 mm/yr), whereas no significant trends are observed in the SRLR during 1982–2014; (3) annual evapotranspiration is found most sensitive to precipitation and temperature in the SRYR and the SRHR, while it is dominated by relative humidity and temperature in the SRLR during 1982–2014. Vegetation is affected by hydrological cycle components that have altered under the influence of climate change. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the impact of hydrological cycle components on regional vegetation growth, especially in alpine regions. In this study, we employed multiple satellite observations to comprehensively investigate the spatial heterogeneity of hydrological cycle components in the Yarlung Zangbo River (YZR) basin for the period 1982-2014 and to determine the underlying mechanisms driving regional vegetation growth. Results showed that the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) values during May-October were high, and the NDVI values increased from the upper reaches of the YZR to its lower reaches, reflecting the enhancement of vegetation growth. Annual precipitation, precipitation-actual evapotranspiration (AET), and snow water equivalent (SWE) all affect terrestrial water storage in the YZR basin through changes in soil moisture (SM), i.e., SM is the intermediate variable. Seasonal variability of vegetation is controlled mainly by precipitation, temperature, AET, SM anomaly, and SWE. Groundwater storage anomalies (GWA) and terrestrial water storage anomalies (TWSA) were not reliable indicators of vegetation growth in the YZR basin and the midstream and downstream regions. The economic impacts of the minimum wage have been the focus of ongoing conflicting debates among policymakers and researchers. Taking a sample of 69694 firms established from 2011 and 2019 in the Chinese hotel sector, we analyzed the impact of minimum wage on firm survival and the moderating effect of the digital economy. Empirical evidences show that minimum wage has a positive impact on the survival risk of hotels, and the digital economy can negatively moderate the relationship between minimum wage and the survival risk of hotels. These findings are robust when tested with the hotel data of cross-provincial city pairs, other estimation models or longer observation periods. In addition, this study finds that the impact of the minimum wage and the moderating effect of the digital economy vary with hotel types. The rise of the minimum wage has brought greater operating pressure to formal hotel enterprises, and the digital economy has a greater inhibitory effect on the relationship between the rise of the minimum wage and the survival risk of hotel enterprises in informal hotel enterprises. A new species, Pleurodesmospora lepidopterorum, isolated from a pupa, is introduced. Morphological comparisons and phylogenetic analyses based on multigene datasets (ITS+RPB1+RPB2+TEF) support the establishment of the new species. Pleurodesmospora lepidopterorum is distinguished from P. coccorum by its longer conidiogenous pegs located in the terminal or lateral conidiophores, and smaller subglobose or ellipsoidal conidia. A combined dataset of RPB1, RPB2, and TEF confirmed the taxonomic placement of Pleurodesmospora in Cordycipitaceae for the first time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to create novel germplasm resources for breeding heat tolerant variety, we transferred a dominant allele OsHTAS , previously characterized and cloned from a high-temperature tolerant local variety HT54, which was collected from the rice production area of southern China, into a high- temperature sensitive intermediate breeding line HT13 through six rounds of successive backcross by using marker-assisted selection. The molecular analysis showed that the recovery of genetic background of a resultant near isogenic line (NIL), MHT13, was around 99.8%. The OsHTAS gene introduced in the MHT13 expressed normally in the HT13 genetic background, mediating heat tolerance and phenotype similar to those of the donor parent HT54. The major agronomic traits of MHT13 resembled those of the recurrent parent HT13. Moreover, MHT13 had high general combining ability and its rice quality reached the grade 3 standard of edible high-quality rice issued by Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China, which greatly improved its application value in rice production. With the gradual improvement of PM2.5 pollution in China, the problem of ozone pollution is becoming more and more serious. In recent years, ozone has become the only one of the six major air pollutants increasing year on year in China, and the primary pollutant of air pollution in many cities of China in summer. In this paper, pollution characteristics of ozone and its relationship with meteorological conditions in China's provincial capitals and some economically developed cities (27 cities in total), and temporal-spatial distribution rules of ozone in China were analyzed, and influence and main source of ozone in China were summarized. The results were as below: daily change of ozone concentration showed as single-peak type, and the maximum generally appeared at 15 :00 - 16 :00, while the minimum generally occurred at 07 :00 - 08 :00. Seasonal change of ozone concentration mainly showed as single-peak type. In summer, ozone concentration was the highest, followed by spring and autumn, and its concentration in winter was the lowest. The influence of meteorological factors on ozone showed as that there was significantly positive correlation between ozone and temperature, radiation quantity, and significantly negative correlation between ozone and humidity, NOx. Ozone near surface will have adverse effects on biosphere, climate and ecological environment. Outbreaks of avian orthoreovirus (ARV) infection with primary symptoms of arthritis/ tenosynovitis syndrome have been occurring more frequently in broiler flocks in China in recent years. This study aimed to investigate the genetic characteristics of ARV field strains in broiler flocks exhibiting arthritis/ tenosynovitis syndrome from 9 cities in Shandong province during 2015 to 2017. A total of 64 synovial and tendon samples were obtained from broilers with significant arthritis/tenosynovitis syndrome, and 21 ARV field strains were obtained. Phylogenetic analysis of the sC nt/aa sequences revealed that only 4 isolates were clustered in genotype I, including vaccine strains S1133, 1733, and most of the ARV field strains identified previously in China. Eleven and 6 ARV field isolates were identified in genotypes II and V, sharing 70.9 to 76.0% and 53.0 to 55.2% nt identities with the vaccine strains, respectively. Previous studies in China have not reported these 2 serotypes of field strains, and prevalence of these ARV variants may be increasing in Chinese broiler flocks. A new wave of electricity market reform was launched by the Chinese government in March 2015, and one of its major objectives was to optimize the power system operation by reforming the low-efficient equal share dispatch mechanism. To provide scientific decision-making support for the current reform, we establish a mixed-integer linear programming optimization model to simulate the post-reform results, and the reform benefits are subsequently estimated by comparing those results with the pre-reform results. Then, we develop a political economy framework to identify the challenges associated with implementation of economic dispatch. With the increasing proportion of wind power connected to grid, power system dispatching is facing more and more challenges from uncertainty. To cope with this uncertainty, robust optimization has been applied in unit commitment (UC) problem. In this paper, a multi-band uncertainty set considering the temporal correlation (MBUSCTC) of wind/load prediction error is proposed firstly, which has two characteristics: (1) The MBUSCTC rigorously and realistically reflect the distribution characteristics of uncertainties in uncertainty intervals, thereby effectively reducing the conservatism of the traditional singe-band uncertainty set; (2) the temporal correlation constraints of wind power/load prediction errors in MBUSCTC could limit the realization of uncertainties fluctuating frequently in uncertain intervals, thereby eliminating scenarios with lower probability in uncertainty sets. Then the proposed MBUSCTC is applied to UC problem, leading a robust UC model based on MBUSCTC, which is solved by Benders decomposition method and C&CG method. Finally, case studies based on the modified IEEE-118 bus system and an actual power system of China demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively reduce the conservativeness of the robust UC model and ensure the robustness of the unit commitment solution. The genus Plectosphaerella is the largest genus in the family Plectosphaerellaceae. Some species are plant pathogens, whereas others are soil-borne. Seven Plectosphaerella isolates were collected from various locations in the southwest of China. Using multi-locus phylogenetic (LSU, ITS, EF1a, RPB2) analyses combined with morphological characteristics, two new species, Plectosphaerella guizhouensis sp. nov. and Plectosphaerella nauculaspora sp. nov. are described, illustrated and compared with related species. Twelve Ctenomyces (Arthrodermataceae, Onygenales) strains were obtained and identified during a survey of keratinophilic fungi in soils from China. We used molecular identification combined with morphological evidence to delimit species, circumscribing five species in the genus. Three new species are herein described: C. albus sp. nov., C. obovatus sp. nov. and C. peltricolor sp. nov. Water pollution has been a significant issue in the Huai River Basin (HRB) of China since the late 1970s. In July and December 2013, two field investigations were carried out at 10 sites along the main streams of the basin. The monitoring indices contained both physicochemical variables and the structure and composition of phytoplankton communities. The correlations between communities and physicochemical variables were analyzed using cluster analysis and redundancy analysis. Moreover, water quality was evaluated using the comprehensive nutrition state index (TLI) and Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H). Results indicated that more phytoplankton species were present in December than in July, but total density was less in December. Phytoplankton communities in the midstream of the Shaying River were affected by the same physicochemical factors throughout the year, but ammonia nitrogen and total phosphorus had the greatest influence on these sites in July and December, respectively. The water pollution status of the sampling sites was much greater in the Shaying River midstream than at other sites. TLI was more suitable than H for assessing water quality in the study area. These results provide valuable information for policy makers and stakeholders in water quality assessment, water ecosystem restoration, and sustainable basin management in the HRB. The concentration, sources and environmental risks of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in surface water in urban areas of Nanjing were investigated. The range of ∑16PAHs concentration is between 4,076 and 29,455 ng/L, with a mean of 17,212 ng/L. The composition of PAHs indicated that 2- and 3-ring PAHs have the highest proportion in all PAHs, while the 5- and 6-ring PAHs were the least in proportion. By diagnostic ratio analysis, combustion and petroleum were a mixture input that contributed to the water PAH in urban areas of Nanjing. Positive matrix factorization quantitatively identified four factors, including coke oven, coal combustion, oil source, and vehicle emission, as the main sources. Toxic equivalency factors of BaP (BaPeq) evaluate the environmental risks of PAHs and indicate the PAH concentration in surface water in urban areas of Nanjing had been polluted and might cause potential environmental risks. Background: The six-minute walk test (6MWT) is a safe, simple, inexpensive tool for evaluating the functional exercise capacity. However, there is a lack of standard reference equations for the six-minute walk distance (6MWD) in the healthy Chinese Han population with an age of 18-30 years. The aims of the present study were as follows: 1) to measure the anthropometric data and the walking distance in a sample of healthy Chinese Han population, aged 18-30 years; 2) to construct reference equations for the 6MWD; 3) to compare the measured 6MWD of our cohort with previously published equations.Methods: The anthropometric data, demographic, lung function and the walking distance of Chinese Han population, aged 18-30 years, were prospectively measured using a standardized protocol. Informed consent was obtained from each participant and the approval was obtained from the ethics committee of Wenzhou People's Hospital. The 6MWT was performed twice and the longer 6MWD was used for further analysis.Results: A total of 355 subjects (176 female and 179 male) completed the 6MWT, and the average walking distance was 627.3 ± 52.88 m. The walking distance was achieved by females compared with males (607.4 ± 51.00 m vs. 646.9 ± 47.15 m; p < 0.0001) and active subjects compared with non-active subjects (646.1 ± 48.27 m vs. 611.6 ± 51.52 m; p < 0.0001). Univariate analysis showed age, height, body mass index, resting blood pressure, heart rate and blood pressure after the walk test and difference in heart rate before and after the walk test were significantly correlated with the 6MWD. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that height and difference in heart rate before and after the walk test were independent predictors associated with the 6MWD. The reference equations from Caucasian, Canadian and Chilean populations tend to overestimate the walking distance in our subjects, while Brazilian and Arabian equations tend to underestimate the walking distance. There was no significant difference in the walking distance between Korean equations and the current study.Conclusion: In summary, height and difference in heart rate before and after the walk test were the most significant predictors of the 6MWD, and the regression equations could explain approximately 38% and 31% of the distance variance in the female and male groups, respectively. Biochar amendment to soil has been proposed as a strategy for sequestering carbon, mitigating climate change and enhancing crop productivity. However, few studies have compared the general effect of different feedstock-derived biochars on the various gaseous reactive nitrogen emissions (GNrEs) of N2O, NO and NH3 simultaneously across the typical vegetable soils in China. A greenhouse pot experiment with five consecutive vegetable crops was conducted to investigate the effects of two contrasting biochars, namely wheat straw biochar (Bw) and swine manure biochar (Bm) on GNrEs, vegetable yield and gaseous reactive nitrogen intensity (GNrI) in four typical soils which are representative of the intensive vegetable cropping systems across mainland China: an Acrisol from Hunan Province, an Anthrosol from Shanxi Province, a Cambisol from Shandong Province and a Phaeozem from Heilongjiang Province. Results showed that remarkable GNrE mitigation induced by biochar occurred in Anthrosol and Phaeozem, whereas enhancement of yield occurred in Cambisol and Phaeozem. Additionally, both biochars decreased GNrI through reducing N2O and NO emissions by 36.4-59.1 and 37.0-49.5% for Bw (except for Cambisol), respectively, and by improving yield by 13.5-30.5% for Bm (except for Acrisol and Anthrosol). Biochar amendments generally stimulated the NH3 emissions with greater enhancement from Bm than Bw.We can infer that the biochar's effects on the GNrEs and vegetable yield strongly depend on the attributes of the soil and biochar. Therefore, in order to achieve the maximum benefits under intensive greenhouse vegetable agriculture, both soil type and biochar characteristics should be seriously considered before conducting large-scale biochar applications. A special and unusual purple (magenta) haze episode was observed in Nanjing, China, at 17:00 on 22 December 2015. Many local and national news outlets reported this event. Based on an analysis of the pollution features and meteorological factors, including boundary layer characteristics, we concluded that this haze event was similar in most respects to other local haze episodes. We discuss the reasons and the possibilities about this rare color haze at the end of the paper. One way to attain a combination of blue and red light is to have the green wavelengths selectively absorbed, and this seems unlikely for typical atmospheric constituents. Another way involves pollution gases or particles together with small liquid-water drops, which need further confirmation. A third possibility is that the combination of transmitted red light from the sun and scattered blue light from above could produce a purple/magenta color in the sky. In general, further studies are required to assess the physical, chemical, and optical features of this purple haze in order to explain and predict this phenomenon in the future. Athetis dissimilis (Hampson) has emerged as a serious pest on corn in recent years in China. Understanding the population response of A. dissimilis to temperature will be beneficial for adopting control strategies for this pest. The impact of five constant temperatures (17, 21, 25, 29, and 33 °C) on the life table of A. dissimilis was studied using age-stage, two-sex life table method in the laboratory. The results showed that the developmental time of egg, larva, pupa, and adult decreased when temperature increased from 17 °C to 33 °C. The TPOP (total preoviposition period) decreased with temperature increasing from 17 °C to 29 °C, while the longest APOP (adult preoviposition period) occurred at 21 °C (3.57 d) and the shortest at 33 °C (2.15 d). The fecundity increased from 407.52 to 763.94 eggs as temperatures were raised from 17 to 25 °C, but decreased at temperatures from 25 °C to 33 °C. The intrinsic rate of increase (r), finite rate of increase (λ), and net reproductive rate (R0) increased as temperatures increased from 17 to 25 °C, then decreased when temperatures exceeded 25 °C. In contrast, the mean generation time (T) decreased as temperatures increased from 17 to 33 °C. Based on the estimated data, the highest female age-stage-specific fecundity (fx) and age-specific fecundity (mx) were 81.91 and 45.04 eggs, respectively, at 25 °C. The age-stage life expectancy (exj) of all stages decreased as the temperature increased. The reproductive value (vxj) increased gradually with age and stage. The developmental rates of A. dissimilis between 17 to 29 °C fit the linear equation y = -0.01315 + 0.001303x, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.9314. A greenhouse pot experiment with five consecutive vegetable crops was conducted to investigate the effects of two contrasting biochar, namely, wheat straw biochar (Bw) and swine manure biochar (Bm) on GNEs, vegetable yield and gaseous nitrogen intensity (GNI) in four typical vegetable soils from the main vegetable production regions (Hunan province (HN), Shanxi province (SX), Shandong province (SD) and Heilongjiang province (HLJ)) that are representative of the intensive vegetable ecosystems across mainland China. Results showed that remarkable GNE mitigation induced by biochar occurred in SX and HLJ soils, whereas enhancement of yield occurred in SD and HLJ soils. Additionally, both biochars decreased GNI, with Bw mitigated N2O and NO emissions by 21.8-59.1% and 37.0-49.5% (except for SD), respectively, while Bm improved yield by 4.0-30.5% (except for HN). Since the biochar's effects on the GNEs and vegetable yield strongly depended on the attributes of the soil and biochar, both soil type and biochar characteristics should be seriously considered before conducting large-scale application of biochar in order to achieve the maximum benefits under intensive greenhouse vegetable agriculture. Background: B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a well-known biomarker to predict cardiac events following orthopedic procedures. However, further information regarding BNP can be completed. The present study aims to determine which of preoperative, postoperative or the difference between them (DVPPB) can best predict adverse cardiac events following TKA procedure and detect possible risk factors of high level of BNP.Methods: Between Jan. 2012 and Jan. 2014. 1120 included patients in 3 institutions have a minimum of 2-years follow-up. All clinical characteristics related to TKA procedure were put in total joint arthroplasty registry system and analyzed finally. The cut-off value of BNP predicting patients at increased risks of cardiac events after TKA was evaluated by the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.Results: Our results reveal DVPPB in comparison to preoperative and postoperative BNP can best predict cardiac events following primary TKA, and the optimal cut-off value was 825.5 pg/ml with the highest Youden index of 0.62. Cigarette smoking, ASA III/IV/V, prior history of cardiac events, general anesthesia, surgery time, and tourniquet time are risk factors for DVPPB > 825.5 pg/ml.Conclusions: DVPPB in comparison to preoperative and postoperative BNP can best predict cardiac events following primary TKA. Cigarette smoking, ASA III/IV/V, prior history of cardiac events, general anesthesia, surgery time, and tourniquet time are risk factors for DVPPB > 825.5 pg/ml. Background and Objectives: Multimorbidity increases risks, such as polypharmacy, inappropriate prescription, and functional decline. It also increases medical care utilization by older adults, placing a burden on health care systems. This study evaluated the effectiveness of an integrated ambulatory care program for health care and medication use in patients with multimorbidity and polypharmacy. Methods: We conducted a retrospective clinical review of adults with multimorbidity and polypharmacy who attended an integrated ambulatory care program at a 1193-bed university hospital between July 1 and September 30, 2019. This program involves multidisciplinary teamwork, comprehensive assessments, medication reviews, and case management. Outcomes, including the frequency of outpatient visits, emergency department visits, hospitalizations, chronic prescription medications, potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs), health care costs, and total medical expenditure, were compared before and after the program. Results: The mean age of participants (n = 134) at baseline was 74.22 ± 9.75 years. The mean number of chronic diagnoses was 9.45 ± 3.38. Participants included 72 (53.7%) women. At the 1-year follow-up, participants showed a significant decrease in the annual frequency of outpatient visits (19.78 ± 9.98 to 13.90 ± 10.22, P < .001), emergency department visits (1.04 ± 1.70 to 0.73 ± 1.40, P = .029), and chronic disease medications (10.71 ± 3.96 to 9.57 ± 3.67, P < .001) across all age groups. There was also a reduction in the annual number of PIMs (from 1.31 ± 1.01 to 1.12 ± 0.93, P = .002) among patients aged 65 years. However, no effects were observed on annual hospitalization, duration of hospital stay, or total health care expenditure, possibly due to the high disease-related treatment cost for certain participants. Conclusions: Expanding integrated ambulatory care programs in Taiwan may help patients with multimorbidity reduce their use of outpatient and emergency services, chronic prescriptions, and PIMs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
