Invasion success of clonal plants is closely related to their unique clonal life history, and clonal division of labor is a crucial clonal trait. However, so far, it is unclear whether invasive alien clonal species generally possess a greater capacity for division of labor than native species and whether this pattern is affected by environmental conditions. To test whether patch contrast affects the differences in the capacity for division of labor between invasive alien and native clonal plants, we selected five pairs of exotic invasive and native clonal plant species that are congeneric and co-occurring in China as experimental materials. We grew the clonal fragment pairs of these invasive and native plants under high, low, or no contrast of reciprocal patchiness of light and nutrient, respectively, with ramet connections either severed (division of labor prevented) or kept intact (division of labor allowed). The results showed that connection significantly decreased the proportion of biomass allocated to roots in distal (younger) ramets, whereas it increased in proximal (older) ramets of all studied plants under high -contrast treatments. This clear pattern strongly indicated the occurrence of division of labor. Furthermore, the connection had a more pronounced effect on the pattern of biomass allocation of invasive alien plants, resulting in a greater increase in biomass for invasive alien plants compared to native plants. These findings suggest that the invasive alien plants possess a greater capacity for division of labor, which may confer a competitive advantage to them over natives, thus facilitating their invasion success in some heterogeneous habitats such as forest edges where light and soil nutrients show a high negative correlation. Background: Although cellular and animal studies have reported that resolvin D1 (RvD1) and resolvin D2 (RvD2) are mechanisms involved in the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), the impact of RvD1 and RvD2 on the risk of T2DM at a population level remains unclear. Methods: We included 2755 non-diabetic adults from a community-based cohort in China and followed them for seven years. Cox proportional hazards model was used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association of RvD1 and RvD2 with T2DM probability. Time-dependent receiver operator characteristics (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the predictive performance of RvD1 and RvD2 for the risk of T2DM based on the Chinese CDC T2DM prediction model (CDRS). Results: A total of 172 incident T2DM cases were identified. Multivariate-adjusted HRs (95% CI) for T2DM across quartiles of RvD1 levels (Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4) were 1.00, 1.64 (1.03-2.63), 1.80 (1.13-2.86) and 1.61 (1.01-2.57), respectively. Additionally, body mass index (BMI) showed a significant effect modification in the association of RvD1 with incident T2DM (Pinteraction = 0.026). After multivariate adjustment, the HR (95% CI) for T2DM in the fourth compared with the first quartile of RvD2 was 1.94 (95% CI: 1.24-3.03). Time-dependent ROC analysis showed that the area under time-dependent ROC curves of the "CDRS +RvD1+RvD2" model for the 3-, 5- and 7-year risk of T2DM were 0.842, 0.835 and 0.828, respectively. [ Objective] The paper uses Geographic Information System (ArcGIS) as a platform to discuss the study of DEM data on the digital construction of rural landscape databases and the coupling relationship in geographic space of rural landscape. The aim is to further expand the coverage of China's land space digitization and provide practical theoretical basis and development possibility of quantitative planning for village level administrative zoning research. [Method] In this paper, Xiangyu Village, Junzhuang Town, Mentougou, West Beijing, is selected as the research object, and the document space database of the study area is constructed by building digital elevation model (DEM), ArcGIS stacked map weighting and visual interpretation methods. Moreover, its elevation equivalence, slope direction, and water flow direction are visually analyzed. [Result] The mountainous terrain and hydrological characteristics of Xiangyu Village are roughly consistent with the village layout; the living environment of Xiangyu Village is consistent with the terrain and texture, and it belongs to the rural landscape system of mountains, valleys and small watersheds. [ Conclusion] The results obtained through data visualization analysis are basically consistent with the traditional village planning pattern of Xiangyu Village; the rural landscape based on village level administrative divisions is still in the traditional planning stage, and there is great development space for village level geographic spatial survey. Background Published guidelines on decision-making and resuscitation of extremely preterm infants primarily focus on high-income countries. For rapidly industrializing ones like China, there is a lack of population-based data for informing prenatal management and practice guidelines. Methods The Sino-northern Neonatal Network conducted a prospective multi-centre cohort study between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2021. Infants with a gestational age (GA) between 22 (postnatal age in days = 0) and 28 (postnatal age in days = 6) admitted to 40 tertiary NICUs in northern China were included and evaluated for death or severe neurological injury before discharge. Results For all extremely preterm infants (n = 5838), the proportion of admission to the neonatal was 4.1% at 22-24 weeks, 27.2% at 25-26 weeks, and 75.2% at 27 and 28 weeks. Among 2228 infants admitted to the NICU, 216 (11.1%) were still elected for withdrawal of care (WIC) due to non-medical factors. Survival rates without severe neurological injury were 6.7% for infants at 22-23 weeks, 28.0% at 24 weeks, 56.7% at 24 weeks, 61.7% at 25 weeks, 79.9% at 26 weeks, and 84.5% at 27 and 28 weeks. Compared with traditional criterion at 28 weeks, the relative risk for death or severe neurological injury were 1.53 (95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.26-1.86) at 27 weeks, 2.32 (95% CI = 1.73-3.11) at 26 weeks, 3.62 (95% CI = 2.43-5.40) at 25 weeks, and 8.91 (95% CI = 4.69-16.96) at 24 weeks. The NICUs with higher proportion of WIC also had a higher rate of death or severe neurological injury after maximal intensive care (MIC). Conclusions Compared to the traditional threshold of 28 weeks, more infants received MIC after 25 weeks, leading to significant increases in survival rates without severe neurological injury. Therefore, the resuscitation threshold should be gradually adjusted from 28 to 25 weeks based on reliable capacity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To raise awareness of Cytochrome P450 Oxidoreductase Deficiency (PORD, a rare form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), through a case of pregnant woman with virilization symptoms. Case description: A 30-year-old Chinese woman was referred to hospital after 7 years of presenting signs of virilization, including voice deepening, acromegaly, hirsutism, clitoromegaly, and acne. These symptoms appeared since her third gestation. Her second birth died 9 hours after birth and had signs of clitoris hypertrophy. Her third born was a son who presented with flat nose, radius and humerus bone malformation, and small penis at birth. Panel of PORrelated genetic tests revealed that the patient carried c.1370 G>A (p.R457H), which is a POR heterozygous gene, while her husband carried a POR heterozygous gene as well, c.1379 C>A (p.S460Y). Two heterozygous mutations of the POR were found in her son: c.1370 G>A and c.1379 C>A. In PORD, c.1370 G>A (p.R457H) was reported as a susceptible gene, while c.1379 C>A (p.S460Y) has not been reported as responsible for the disease so far. Discussion and literature review: PORD is a rare form of CAH and caused by POR gene mutations. Most PORD patients are identified and diagnosed in pediatrics department. Internal medicine and obstetrics physicians are unfamiliar with the disease. As clinical manifestations are diverse, PORD could be easy to miss or to be misdiagnosed. Typical clinical manifestation includes adrenal insufficiency-related symptoms, such as bone malformations and sexual development disorders. PORD is diagnosed through genetic testing. Investigations of steroid metabolic products in urine through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry or liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry are also helpful for the diagnosis, but neither of them are widely available in China. In this case, the patient had a history of infertility, and her third child was born with congenital defect and carried a PORD-related gene. In general clinical practice, if a pregnant woman presents with abnormal virilization symptoms, CAH possibilities should be considered, including rare causes such as PORD. Conclusion: PORD is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disease. Background: Upper limb impairments are one of the most common health problems of stroke, affecting both motor function and independence in daily life. It has been demonstrated that intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) increases brain excitability and improves upper limb function. Our study sought to determine the role of iTBS in stroke recovery. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of iTBS in individuals with upper limb impairments following stroke. Methods: The databases used included Cumulative Index to PubMed, EMBASE, ESCBOhost, The Cochrane Library, Chinese Biomedical Database, Web of Science, China Biology Medicine (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Technology Periodical Database (VIP), and WanFang Database. Studies published before November 2021 were included. Each participant received an iTBS-based intervention aimed at improving activity levels or impairment, which was compared to usual care, a sham intervention, or another intervention. The primary outcome measure was a change in upper limb function assessment. Secondary outcomes included impairment, participation, and quality of life measures. Result: A total of 18 studies (n = 401 participants) that met the inclusion criteria were included in this study. There was a slight change in the upper limb function of the iTBS group compared with the control group, as measured by the Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) score (mean difference 2.70, 95% CI 0.02 to 5.42, p = 0.05). Significant improvement in resting motor threshold (RMT) and motor-evoked potential (MEP) was also observed in the meta-analysis of iTBS (MD 3.46, 95% CI 2.63 to 4.28, p < 0.00001); (MD 1.34, 95% CI 1.17 to 1.51, P < 0.00001). In addition, we got similar results when the studies were using the Modified Barthel Index (MBI) assessment (mean difference of 7.34, 95% CI 0.47 to 14.21, p = 0.04). Conclusion: Our study established the efficacy of iTBS in improving motor cortical plasticity, motor function, and daily functioning in stroke patients. The finite element model of suspension bridge was established according to the actual bridge engineering in Southwest area of China. In order to simulate the random ground motion model accurately and efficiently, the orthogonal random function ground motion modeling method based on Priestley evolution spectrum theory is adopted. The dimensionality reduction simulation of random ground motion is realized, and the simulated ground motion samples are input into the finite element model to carry out the time history analysis. Objective To analyze the relevant risk factors for intracranial infection after craniotomy for resection of skull base neoplasms. Methods The clinical data of 159 patients with skull base neoplasms who underwent craniotomy from May 2010 to January 2020 in The Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University were analyzed retrospectively. The relevant risk factors for intracranial infection were analyzed by univariate and multivariate forward Logistic regression. Results Postoperative intracranial infection occurred in 81 out of 159 patients, the infection rate was 50.94%. Multivariate forward Logistic regression analysis showed the operation time was ≥5 h (OR = 3.438, 95%CI: 1.371-8.625; P = 0.008), blood loss ≥ 400 ml (OR = 2.308, 95%CI: 1.115-4.777; P = 0.024), frontal sinus or mastoid air chamber breach (OR = 16.817, 95%CI: 3.689-76.658; P = 0.000) were the risk factors for intracranial infection after craniotomy for resection of skull base neoplasms. Conclusions There was a higher risk of intracranial infection after craniotomy for resection of skull base neoplasms in patients who had long operation time, more intraoperative blood loss as well as frontal sinus or mastoid air chamber breach. Comparison and quantification of different uncertainties of future climate change involved in the modeling of a hydrological system are highly important for both hydrological modelers and policy-makers. However, few studies have accurately estimated the relative importance of different sources of uncertainty at different spatiotemporal scales. Here, a hierarchical sensitivity analysis framework (HSAF) incorporated with a variance-based global sensitivity analysis is developed to quantify the spatiotemporal contributions of different uncertainties in hydrological impacts of climate change in two different climatic (humid and semiarid) basins in China. The uncertainty sources include three emission scenarios (ESs), 20 global climate models (GCs), three hydrological models (HMs), and the associated sensitive hydrological parameters (PAs) screened and sampled by the Morris and Latin hypercube sampling methods, respectively. The results indicate that the overall trend of uncertainty is PA > HM > GC > ES, but their uncertainties have discrepancies in projections of different hydrological variables. The HM uncertainty in annual and monthly discharge projections is generally larger than the PA uncertainty in the humid basin than semiarid basin. The PA has greater uncertainty in extreme hydrological event (annual peak discharge) projections than in annual discharge projections for both basins (particularly for the humid basin), but contributes larger uncertainty to annual and monthly discharge projections in the semiarid basin than humid basin. The GC contributes larger uncertainty in all the hydrological variables projections in the humid basin than semiarid basin, while the ES uncertainty is rather limited in both basins. Efficient operation is important to make full use of the capabilities of China's space station. Determining the stochastic impacts of emergencies on the operational scenario of the space station is critical for successful implementation. However, few studies have assessed the uncertainties in the operational processes of the space station. To fill this gap, discrete event simulation (DES) is used to develop an evaluation method for the contingent operational plan of a space station. First, DES is used to develop a model framework of the space station operations, and the launch delay of cargo vehicles is introduced into the integrated simulation procedure. Second, the precision of the results and the computational efficiency are improved using the variance reduction technique. The corresponding effect on the number of simulation trials is confirmed using four constraints and three measurable metrics. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a two-year space station operational plan. The results show that maintaining a short interval between the launch date of the cargo vehicles and the start of the launch windows can decrease prolonged duration after a launch delay. A statistical analysis can be used to determine a safe interval between the dates of the events and vehicle launch. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Narrowly lanceolate leaves occur frequently in the genus Aster. It was often employed as a distinguishing character in the taxonomy of this genus. The origin of this particular leaf shape, however, has never been investigated using comparative methods. In this study, we reconstructed a comprehensive phylogeny that includes most species of Aster with narrowly lanceolate leaf. We then gathered data on riparian habitats and the presence or absence of narrowly lanceolate leaves, and investigated the evolutionary association between them in a phylogenetic context. Our analysis indicated that the species with narrowly lanceolate leaves are nested in unrelated lineages of the genus Aster, implying that they originated independently several times. Using Pagel's comparative method of discrete data, we demonstrated a significant correlation between riparian habitats and narrowly lanceolate leaves. We further inferred the sequence of transition of the two characters. This analysis indicated that the sequence of evolution of riparian habitat and narrowly lanceolate leaf form was usually uncertain, but some positive results showed that the occurrence of riparian habitats may not precede the evolution of narrowly lanceolate leaf form. This study provided new insights into the adaptive evolution in a mega-diverse family. In addition, Aster tonglingensis, an unexpected new species with narrowly lanceolate leaves, was discovered and established based on the evidence from morphology, micromorphology and molecular phylogeny. Reservoir inflow forecast plays a crucial part in programming, development, operation, and management of water resource systems. To better reveal the complex properties of daily reservoir inflow, a clustered deep fusion (CDF) approach is proposed in this paper. First, variational mode decomposition (VMD) is used to decompose the daily reservoir inflow series into multiple modes, which are clustered into different sets by fuzzy c-means according to the Xie-Beni index in view of attribute domain. In each cluster, a deep autoencoder model (DAE) is developed for deep representations of the attributes in the deep domain. DAE outputs are finally fused at the synthesis domain into the forecasting results using random forest (RF). In this way, the inflow time series may be successively observed in the attribute domain, deep domain, and synthesis domain, which results in a clearer understanding of reservoir inflow trend. The present approach is modeled and evaluated using historical data collected from the Three Gorges Reservoir, China. For comparison, two kinds of learning patterns--deep learning (VMD-DAE-RF and DAE) and shallow learning (feed-forward neural network, least-squares support regression, and RF)--are applied to the same case. The results indicate that the proposed CDF model outperforms all comparison models in terms of mean absolute percentage error (6.174%), root mean-square error (1,077.428 m3=s), and correlation coefficient criteria (0.987). In order to assess the spatial distribution and the potential pollution risk of nickel (Ni) and vanadium (V) in Shuangtaizi Estuary in China, the water and the surface sediments were collected to determine V and Ni content in specified sites. The data indicated that the estuary was contaminated by Ni, while V content was low. Total concentrations of V in river water ranged from 0.212 to 0.374 μg/L, and in surface and bottom seawater from 0.214 to 0.559 μg/L and 0.231 to 0.684 μg/L, respectively. V content in river sediments ranged from 0.093 to 0.119 μg/g and in ocean sediments were 0.032 to 0.123 μg/g. Total Ni concentrations in river waters ranged from 23.667 to 118.667 μg/L, and in surface and bottom seawaters were 32.000 to 90.323 μg/L and 42.000 to 100.333 μg/L, respectively. Ni content in sediments of river ranged from 15.303 to 21.732 μg/g and in sediments of ocean were 11.197 to 21.107 μg/g. Ni content was higher than that of V. An ecological risk assessment study shows that Ni has potential ecological risk in water and no risk in sediment. V has no potential ecological risk in Shuangtaizi Estuary. V and Ni concentrations increased from the inner estuary to the outer estuary. The anthropogenic emissions from land are the main sources of Ni and V in the study area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. Since 2014, 17 human cases of infection with the newly emerged highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N6) virus have been identified in China to date. The epidemiologic characteristics of laboratory-confirmed A(H5N6) cases were compared to A(H5N1) and A(H7N9) cases in mainland China. Methods. Data on laboratory-confirmed H5N6, H5N1, and H7N9 cases identified in mainland China were analyzed to compare epidemiologic characteristics and clinical severity. Severity of confirmed H5N6, H5N1 and H7N9 cases was estimated based on the risk of severe outcomes in hospitalized cases. Results. H5N6 cases were older than H5N1 cases with a higher prevalence of underlying medical conditions but younger than H7N9 cases. Epidemiological time-to-event distributions were similar among cases infected with the 3 viruses. In comparison to a fatality risk of 70% (30/43) for hospitalized H5N1 cases and 41% (319/782) for hospitalized H7N9 cases, 12 (75%) out of the 16 hospitalized H5N6 cases were fatal, and 15 (94%) required mechanical ventilation. Conclusion. Similar epidemiologic characteristics and high severity were observed in cases of H5N6 and H5N1 virus infection, whereas severity of H7N9 virus infections appeared lower. Background: To investigate the association between CHADS2 score, depressive symptoms, and quality of life in a large general population from China. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 11,956 permanent residents of Liaoning Province in China = 35 years of age was conducted between January and August 2013 (response rate 85.3%). All participants completed a questionnaire, had a physical examination, and underwent blood examination. Depressive symptoms were assessed with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), while the quality of life (QoL) was measured using the World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Scale (WHOQOL-BREF). Results: With increasing CHADS2 score, the prevalence of depressive symptoms increased from 4.9 to 27.8% (P < 0.001), and all scores of WHOQOL-BREF decreased significantly (all Ps < 0.001). After adjusting for confounding risk factors, subjects with CHADS2 score ≥ 3 had higher risk of depressive symptoms than those with CHADS2 score = 0 (all Ps < 0.05). Also, CHADS2 score was negatively associated with all scores of WHOQOL-BREF (all Ps < 0.001). Furthermore, subjects with any item in CHADS2 had higher prevalence of depressive symptoms (all Ps < 0.001). Heart failure and stroke remained independently associated with depressive symptoms after adjusting for confounding risk factors and other items (Ps < 0.001), while heart failure, age ≥ 75 years, diabetes mellitus, and stroke were all independently negatively associated with the total score of WHOQOL-BREF (all Ps < 0.05). Reservoir sedimentation dynamics were interpreted using Cs-137 activity, particle size and rainfall erosivity analysis in conjunction with sediment profile coring. Two sediment cores were retrieved from the Changshou reservoir of Chongqing, which was dammed in 1956 at the outlet of Longxi catchment in the Three Gorges Area using a gravity corer equipped with an acrylic tube with an inner diameter of 6 cm. The extracted cores were sectioned at 2 cm intervals. All sediment core samples were dried, sieved (<2 mm) and weighed. Cs activity was measured by γ-ray spectrometry. The particle size of the core samples was measured using laser particle size granulometry. Rainfall erosivity was calculated using daily rainfall data from meteorological records and information on soil conservation history was collated to help interpret temporal sedimentation trends. The peak fallout of Cs in 1963 appeared at a depth of 84 cm in core A and 56 cm in core B. The peaks of sand contents were related to the peaks of rainfall erosivity which were recorded in 1982, 1989, 1998 and 2005, respectively. Sedimentation rates were calculated according to the sediment profile chronological controls of 1956, 1963, 1982, 1989, 1998 and 2005. The highest sedimentation rate was around 2.0 cm∙a between 1982 and 1988 when the Chinese national reform and the Household Responsibility System were implemented, leading to accelerated soil erosion in the Longxi catchment. Since 1990s, and particularly since 2005, sedimentation rates clearly decreased, since a number of soil conservation programs have been carried out in the catchment. The combined use of Cs chronology, particle size and rainfall erosivity provided a simple basis for reconstructing reservoir sedimentation dynamics in the context of both physical processes and soil restoration. Its advantages include avoiding the need for full blown sediment yield reconstruction and the concomitant consideration of core correlation and corrections for autochthonous inputs and reservoir trap efficiency. Background: Estimating quality of life (QoL) in patients with breast cancer is of importance in assessing treatment outcomes. Adjuvant endocrine therapy is widely used for hormone receptor-positive (HR+) early-stage breast cancer (EBC), and evidence suggests that aromatase inhibitors (AIs) may improve QoL for these patients. This study evaluated QoL in postmenopausal Chinese patients with HR+ EBC taking AIs.Methods: This was a prospective, multicenter, and observational study that had no intent to intervene in the current treatment of recruited patients. Eligible patients were recruited within 7 days of beginning adjuvant treatment with AIs. The Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast (FACT-B) scale was used to evaluate the patients' QoL. Data were collected at baseline and at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months.Results: From June 2010 to October 2013, a total of 494 patients with HR+ EBC were recruited from 21 centers. There was a 7.51-point increase in the patients' mean FACT-B trial outcome index (TOI), from 90.69 at baseline to 98.72 at 24 months (P < .0001). The mean TOI scores at baseline, 6, 12, and 18 months were 90.69, 94.36, 97.71, and 96.75, respectively (P < .0001, for all). The mean (FACT-B) emotional well-being subscale scores at baseline, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months were 16.32, 16.55, 17.34 (P < .0001), 17.47 (P < .0001), and 17.85 (P < .0001), respectively, and social well-being scores were 18.61, 19.14 (P < .04), 19.35 (P < .008), 18.32, and 18.40, respectively. In the mixed model, baseline TOI, clinical visits, prior chemotherapies, age group, and axillary lymph-node dissection presented statistically significant effects on the change of FACT-B TOI and FACT-B SWB, whereas only baseline TOI, clinical visits, and prior chemotherapies presented statistically significant effects on the change of FACT-B EWB. FACT-B TOI, being the most pertinent and precise indicator of patient-reported QoL, demonstrated significant changes reflecting clinical benefit of adjuvant AIs endocrine therapy in the QoL of HR + EBC patients.Conclusions: The study demonstrated significant improvements in the long-term QoL of postmenopausal Chinese patients with HR+ EBC at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months after starting treatment with AIs. Soil erosion and bank degradation is a major post-dam concern regarding the riparian zone of the Three Gorges Reservoir. The development and succession of vegetation is a main countermeasure, especially to enhance bank stability and mitigate soil erosion by the root system. In this study, the roots of four prevailing grass species, namely, Cynodon dactylon, Hemarthria altissima, Hemarthria compressa, and Paspalum paspaloides, in the riparian zone were investigated in relation to additional soil cohesion. Roots were sampled using a single root auger. Root length density (RLD) and root area ratio (RAR) were measured by using the WinRHIZO image analysis system. Root tensile strength (T) was performed using a manual dynamometer, and the soil reinforcement caused by the roots was estimated using the simple Wu's perpendicular model. Results showed that RLD values of the studied species ranged from 0.24 cm/cm to 20.89 cm/cm at different soil layers, and RLD were significantly greater at 0-10 cm depth in comparison to the deeper soil layers (>10 cm). RAR measurements revealed that on average 0.21% of the reference soil area was occupied by grass roots for all the investigated species. The measured root tensile strength was the highest for P. paspaloides (62.26 MPa) followed by C. dactylon (51.49 MPa), H. compressa (50.66 MPa), and H. altissima (48.81 MPa). Nevertheless, the estimated maximum root reinforcement in this investigation was 22.5 kPa for H. altissima followed by H. compressa (21.1 kPa), P. paspaloides (19.5 kPa), and C. dactylon (15.4 kPa) at 0-5 cm depth soil layer. The root cohesion values estimated for all species were generally distributed at the 0-10 cm depth and decreased with the increment of soil depth. The higher root cohesion associated with H. altissima and H. compressa implies their suitability for revegetation purposes to strengthen the shallow soil in the riparian zone of the Three Gorges Reservoir. Although the soil reinforcement induced by roots is only assessed from indirect indicators, the present results still useful for species selection in the framework of implementing and future vegetation recovery actions in the riparian zone of the Three Gorges Reservoir and similar areas in the Yangtze River Basin. Background and Purpose. The vascular morphology in crowd with family history of stroke remains unclear. The present study clarified the characteristics of the intracranial vascular CoW and prevalence of intracranial aneurysms in subjects with family history of stroke. Methods. A stratified cluster, random sampling method was used for subjects with family history of stroke among rural residents in Jixian, Tianjin, China. All the subjects underwent a physical examination, head computed tomography (CT) scan, and cephalic and cervical computed tomography angiography (CTA) scan. Anatomic variations in the Circle of Willis and cerebrovascular disease in this population were analyzed. Results. In the crowd with similar living environment, stable genetic background, and family history of stroke and without obvious nerve function impairment (1) hypoplasia or absence of A1 segment was significantly different in gender (male versus female: 9.8% versus 18.8%, p=0.031), especially the right-side A1 (male versus female: 5.9% versus 16.4%, p=0.004). (2) Hypoplasia or absence of bilateral posterior communicating arteries was more common in men than women (58.2% versus 45.3%, p=0.032). Unilateral fetal posterior cerebral artery was observed more often in women than men (17.2% versus 8.5%, p=0.028). (3) The percentage of subjects with incomplete CoW did not increase significantly with age. Compared to healthy Chinese people, the crowd had a higher percentage of incomplete CoW (p<0.001). (4) No obvious correlation between risk factors and CoW was found. (5) The prevalence of aneurysm was 10.3% in the special crowd. Conclusions. The certain variations of CoW showed significant relation to gender, but not to age in people with family history of stroke. The incomplete circle may be a dangerous factor that is independent of common risk factors for stroke and tend to lead to cerebral ischemia in the crowd with family history of stroke. Extending existing studies based on constant structure, we adopt a time-varying approach to study energy consumption and GDP causality for China in a context of industrialization and urbanization. We find that in light of structural change, China's energy consumption is trend-stationary and thus forms no cointegration with GDP. Further, the relationship between energy consumption and GDP is two-way causal and has been decreasing in strength over time. Finally, industrialization and urbanization, especially the former, have limited effects on energy consumption, suggesting the decreasing energy intensities in individual sectors, instead of structure shift between sectors, as the main reason for China's decreasing energy intensity over the years. The incidence of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has significantly increased in China, while the prognosis of affected patients is poor. The pathogenesis of NSCLC is thought to be regulated by microRNAs (miRs). The present study used a mi array in order to determine the expression of miR-361-5p, which was significantly lower in NSCLC tissues compared with that in adjacent tissues, indicating a crucial role of miR-361-5p during the progression of NSCLC. Furthermore, the effects of transfection-induced upregulation of miR-361-5p on the NSCLC cell line H23 were assessed. Overexpression of miR-361-5p inhibited the proliferation and colony formation ability of H23 cells. In addition, apoptosis of H23 cells was induced by upregulation of miR-361-5p. Furthermore, signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (STAT6) was confirmed as a direct target of miR-361-5p by a dual-luciferase reporter assay. Moreover, inhibition of STAT6 by small interfering RNA or miR-361-5p also decreased the expression of B-cell lymphoma extra large (Bcl-xL). In vivo, miR-361-5p significantly reduced tumor growth in a nude mouse xenograft model, and suppressed STAT6 and Bcl-xL expression. By using exploratory spatial data analysis technology, this paper studies the coal resource and its utilization in China's 31 provinces between 2001 and 2011. The research concluded that the distribution structure of China has a serious imbalance between coal production and coal consumption. The coal resource curse values for most provinces are decreasing apparently. It was also found out the coaldominated economic development pattern of regions as "Sanxi" (Shanxi, Shaanxi and Mengxi) has become weakened. From the spatial autocorrelation test on coal resource curse, it is revealed that the observed spatial agglomeration of resource curse show significant positive global autocorrelation, i.e. the high curse value region tends to be cluster, with the low value region following the same trend. Moreover, the outcome of local spatial autocorrelation test indicates that several provinces have significant positive values, and the high-risk curse value district has shrunk to the coal endowment region. In order to determine the resistance of leading rice varieties to rice blast in Guangxi, three natural induction rice blast nurseries were established in Cenxi, San-jiang and Yongfu. The resistance of the 45 leading rice varieties in Guangxi to rice blast was determined under conditions of spray inoculation and natural induction at seedling stage. The results showed that resistance frequencies of the 45 leading rice varieties ranged from 8.33% to 94.44%. Among the 45 tested varieties, there were 8 varieties of which the resistance frequencies were all higher than 80%, accounting for 17.78%; there were 11 varieties of which the resistance frequencies ranged from 50% to 80%, accounting for 24.44%; the resistance frequencies of the remaining varieties were all lower than 50%, accounting for 57.78% of the total tested varieties. The two-consecutive-year determination results showed none of the 45 leading rice varieties showed resistance to rice blast. In 2010, there were 26, 12 and 7 varieties that were moderately sensitive, sensitive and greatly sensitive to rice blast respectively, accounting for 57.78%, 26.67% and 15.56% of the total tested varieties. In 2011, there were 16, 23 and 12 varieties that were moderately sensitive, sensitive and greatly sensitive to rice blast respectively, accounting for 35.56%, 51.11% and 13.33%. To analyze the main variables affecting crown biomass, we measured crown biomass and a number of variables describing tree size, such as stem diameter at breast height (D), tree height (H), crown width (Cw) and crown length (Cl), from 754 sample trees of four pine species in China, specifically, Pinus massoniana, P. yunnanensis, P. tabulaeformis and P. elliottii. In addition, we developed individual tree crown biomass equations and compatible branch and needle biomass equations based on one-, two- and multi-variable models using nonlinear mixed-effects modeling and error-in-variable simultaneous equations. The results showed that: (i) crown biomass was strongly correlated to D and H, and the new combined variables (D4/H) and (D2/H) were suitable for modeling two- and multi-variable crown biomass equations, respectively; (ii) the four species were ranked as P. yunnanensis, P. massoniana, P. elliottii and P. tabulaeformis from small to large based on estimates from crown biomass equations, and the crown biomass estimate of P. tabulaeformis was about 60% greater than that of P. yunnanensis; (iii) the ratio of branch to crown biomass increased with increasing D, and the four species were ranked as P. elliottii, P. tabulaeformis, P. massoniana and P. yunnanensis from small to large by the proportion of the branch to crown biomass; (iv) the mean prediction errors (MPE's) of the crown biomass equations for the four species were less than 10%, which could meet precision needs for biomass estimation. Interleukin-21 (IL-21) is a pleiotropic cytokine linking innate and adaptive immune responses, which has been reported to play a key role in multiple autoimmune diseases. The aim of the present case-control study was to investigate the genetic association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of rs907715 within the IL-21 gene and Graves' disease (GD) in a Southern Chinese population. A total of 211 patients with GD and 212 control subjects were recruited for the study. IL-21 gene rs907715 polymorphisms were detected by direct DNA sequencing. The results indicated that the frequencies of the GG genotype and the G allele in GD patients were significantly increased when compared with the frequencies in the controls (P=6.7×10-3 and P=2.0×10-5, respectively). In addition, the frequency of the AA genotype was much lower in the patient group when compared with the control group (16.6 vs. 34.0%; P=4.0×10-5). Furthermore, the G allele of rs907715 was associated with relapse in GD patients. These observations indicated that polymorphisms of IL-21/rs907715 may affect the susceptibility to GD in a Southern Chinese population. Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by chronic destructive inflammation in synovial joints. It is well known that genetic and environmental risk factors and their interaction contribute to RA pathogenesis. This study aimed to investigate the association between the critical polymorphisms in the tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα)-induced protein 3(TNFAIP3) gene and the risk of RA in a large northern Chinese Han population. Methods A case-control study of 1280 RA patients and 1280 matched healthy controls was conducted. Results This study showed that carriers of the rs2230926 TG genotype or rs10499194 CT genotype had an increased risk for RA compared with those carrying the wild genotype (rs2230926: OR = 1.48, 95%CI = 1.17-1.86, p = 0.001; rs10499194: OR = 2.00, 95%CI = 1.46-2.74, p < 0.001). The combined rs2230926TG/GG or rs10499194 CT/TT were associated with an increased risk of RA (ORs were 1.50 and 2.01, 95%CIs were 1.19-1.88 and 1.47-2.74, respectively, both p < 0.001). There was not significant association between rs13207033 polymorphism and RA risk. Subset analysis stratified to gender showed that the increased risks were significant among the genotypes TG, TG/GG of rs2230926 and CT, CT/TT of rs10499194 and the corresponding ORs were 1.42 (95%CI = 1.10-1.83, p = 0.006), 1.44(95%CI = 1.12-1.85, p = 0.004), 1.52(95%CI = 1.05-2.20, p = 0.026) and 1.52(95%CI = 1.06-2.19, p = 0.023) in the female population. Stratified analyses by age found that rs2230926(TG, TG/GG) and rs10499194(CT, CT/TT) polymorphisms were associated with RA risks in population ⩽53 years old and among >53 years old only rs10499194(CT, TT, CT/TT) polymorphism had significant results. The interaction analysis suggested that individuals with both risk genotypes of the two SNPs have a higher elevated risk of RA than those with only one of them (ORs were 3.44 compared to 1.74 and 1.35). The haplotype results showed that individuals with the rs2230926G-rs13207033G-rs10499194C haplotype were associated with increased risks of RA (OR = 1.37, 95%CI = 1.08-1.74, p = 0.010). Background: Gout is a common type of arthritis that is characterized by hyperuricemia, tophi and joint inflammation. Genetic variations in the ABCG2 gene have been reported to influence serum uric acid levels and to participate in the pathogenesis of gout, but no further data have been reported in the Han Chinese population. Methods: Peripheral blood DNA was isolated from 352 male patients with gout and 350 gout-free normal male controls. High-resolution melting analysis and Sanger sequencing were performed to identify the genetic polymorphisms V12M, Q141K and Q126X in the ABCG2 gene. Genotype and haplotype analyses were utilized to determine the disease odds ratios (ORs). A prediction model for gout risk using ABCG2 protein function was established based on the genotype combination of Q126X and Q141K. Results: For Q141K, the A allele frequency was 49.6% in the gout patients and 30.9% in the controls (OR 2.20, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.77-2.74, p = 8.99 × 10-13). Regarding Q126X, the T allele frequency was 4.7% in the gout patients and 1.7% in the controls (OR 2.91, 95% CI: 1.49-5.68, p = 1.57 × 10-3). The A allele frequency for V12M was lower (18.3%) in the gout patients than in the controls (29%) (OR 0.55, 95% CI 0.43-0.71, p = 2.55 × 10-6). In the order of V12M, Q126X and Q141K, the GCA and GTC haplotypes indicated increased disease risk (OR = 2.30 and 2.71, respectively). Patients with mild to severe ABCG2 dysfunction accounted for 78.4% of gout cases. Conclusion: The ABCG2 126X and 141K alleles are associated with an increased risk of gout, whereas 12M has a protective effect on gout susceptibility in the Han Chinese population. Detachment structures occur widely in the crust, and it is the commonest and most important deformation type developed in the region between erogenic belts and basins. The 'comb-like' and 'toughlike' fold belts in eastern Sichuan are caused by multi-layer detachment. The duplex structure is the most important deformation style in the region, exhibiting different characteristics from typical detachment structures. Different deformation styles, scales, and shortenings resulting from independent deformations of various detachment systems would lead to the phenomenon whereby most of the topographical heights in the region do not correspond to the structural heights in depth. Based on systematic structural analysis and combined with practical oil/gas prospecting, four types of structural traps are described from eastern Sichuan Province, which are: detachment and thrust trap; detachment folding trap; fault-flat blocking trap; and detachment layer trap. Meticulous studies on the deformation and distribution of detachment layers in the eastern Sichuan Province will contribute to oil/gas prospecting and selection of potential regions of marine-origin oil/gas prospecting in South China. Ginkgo biloba is monotypic species native to China and has old, dioecious, medicinally important characteristics. The functional genes related to these characteristics have not been effectively explored due to a limited number of expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from Ginkgo. To discover novel functional genes efficiently and to understand the development of a living fossil tree, Ginkgo, we used massive parallel pyrosequencing on the Roche 454 GS FLX Titanium platform to generate 64 057 ESTs. The ESTs combined with the 21 590 Ginkgo ESTs in genbank were assembled into 22 304 unique putative transcripts, in which 13 922 novel unique putative transcripts were identified by 454 sequencing. After being assigned to putative functions with Gene Ontology terms, a detailed view of the Ginkgo biological systems was displayed, including characterization of unique putative transcripts with homology to known key enzymes and transcription factors involved in ginkgolide/bilobalide and flavonoid biosynthetic pathways, as well as unique putative transcripts related to development, response to disease and defence. The fact that three full-length Ginkgo genes encoding key enzymes were found and cloned, suggests that high-throughput sequencing technology is superior to traditional gene-by-gene approach in discovery of genes. Additionally, a total of 204 simple sequence repeat motifs were detected. Our study not only lays the foundations for transcriptome-led studies in biosynthetic mechanisms, but also contributes significantly to the understanding of functional genomics and development in non-model plants. Background: A special type of repairable meniscal lesion involving the peripheral attachment of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus is commonly associated with anterior cruciate ligament deficiency and is termed a ‘‘ramp lesion.’’ However, there are no previously published articles reporting the epidemiologic characteristics of ramp lesions.Hypothesis: The ramp lesion is a special type of medial meniscal tear with high prevalence associated with anterior cruciate ligament rupture; the prevalence increases with time from anterior cruciate ligament injury. Age and gender are risk factors affecting the prevalence of the ramp lesion.Study Design: Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3.Methods: From April 2002 to October 2007, 868 consecutive knees were diagnosed as having an anterior cruciate ligament injury and received arthroscopic surgery for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. All the patients had verified tears of the ramp area under arthroscopy. The prevalence of the ramp lesion was evaluated retrospectively. Then, all cases were divided into different groups depending on the time interval from anterior cruciate ligament injury to anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and other relevant risk factors such as age and gender. The effects of age, gender, and time from injury on the prevalence of ramp lesions were analyzed.Results: Among 868 knees that underwent surgery for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, 144 knees were diagnosed as having a ramp lesion. The mean age was 24.7 years; there were 113 male and 31 female patients. The mean time from injury to anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction was 27.2 months. The prevalence of ramp lesions was 16.6%, which was analyzed as a logarithmic correlation with time from injury. Patients younger than 30 years of age and male patients had a significantly higher prevalence of ramp lesions.Conclusion: The ramp lesion is a common meniscal injury that can occur at the time of anterior cruciate ligament rupture or as a result of knee laxity associated with anterior cruciate ligament insufficiency. The prevalence of ramp lesion in this patient group was 16.6%, which increased with time until 24 months after initial injury. Background: Herb-drug interactions are an important issue in drug safety and clinical practice. The aim of this epidemiological study was to characterize associations of clinical outcomes with concomitant herbal and antipsychotic use in patients with schizophrenia. Methods and Findings: In this retrospective, cross-sectional study, 1795 patients with schizophrenia who were randomly selected from 17 psychiatric hospitals in China were interviewed face-to-face using a structured questionnaire. Association analyses were conducted to examine correlates between Chinese medicine (CM) use and demographic, clinical variables, antipsychotic medication mode, and clinical outcomes. The prevalence of concomitant CM and antipsychotic treatment was 36.4% [95% confidence interval (95% CI) 34.2%-38.6%]. Patients using concomitant CM had a significantly greater chance of improved outcomes than non-CM use (61.1% vs. 34.3%, OR = 3.44, 95% CI 2.80-4.24). However, a small but significant number of patients treated concomitantly with CM had a greater risk of developing worse outcomes (7.2% vs. 4.4%, OR = 2.06, 95% CI 2.06-4.83). Significant predictors for concomitant CM treatment-associated outcomes were residence in urban areas, paranoid psychosis, and exceeding 3 months of CM use. Herbal medicine regimens containing Radix Bupleuri, Fructus Gardenia, Fructus Schisandrae, Radix Rehmanniae, Akebia Caulis, and Semen Plantaginis in concomitant use with quetiapine, clozapine, and olanzepine were associated with nearly 60% of the risk of adverse outcomes. Conclusions: Concomitant herbal and antipsychotic treatment could produce either beneficial or adverse clinical effects in schizophrenic population. Abstract: Cenozoic sedimentary deposits in central-southern Ningxia province, NW China are an important record of Tertiary tectonic events along the evolving Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau’s northeast margin. Shortly after the onset of the Indo-Eurasia collision to the south, a thrust belt and adjoining foreland basin began to form during 40–30Ma. The Eocene Sikouzi Formation developed in a distal setting to this basin, in normal fault-bound basins that may have formed in a forebulge setting. Subsequent deposition of the Oligocene Qingshuiying Formation occurred during a phase of apparently less intense tectonism and the previous underfilled foreland basin became overfilled. During the Early Miocene, contractional deformation was mainly distributed to the west of the Liupan Shan. This resulted in deformation of the Qingshuiying Formation as indicated by an unconformity with the overlying Miocene Hongliugou Formation. The unconformity occurs proximal to the Haiyuan Fault suggesting that the Haiyuan Fault may have begun movement in the Early Miocene. In the Late Miocene, thrusting occurred west of the southern Helan Shan and an unconformity developed between the Hongliugou and Qingshuiying Formations proximal to the the Cha-Gu Fault. Relationships between the Miocene stratigraphy and major faults in the region imply that during the Late Miocene the deformation front of the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau had migrated to the Cha-Gu Fault along the western Ordos Margin, and the Xiang Shan was uplifted. Central-southern Ningxia was then incorporated into the northeast propagating thrust wedge. The driving force for NE propagation of the thrust wedge was most likely pronounced uplift of the northeastern plateau at the same time. Analysis of the sedimentary record coupled with consideration of the topographic evolution of the region suggests that the evolving fold-and-thrust belt experienced both forward-breaking fold-and-thrust belt development, and out-of-sequence fault displacements as the thrust wedge evolved and the foreland basin became compartmentalised. The documented sedimentary facies and structural relationship also place constraints on the Miocene-Recent evolution of the Yellow River and its tributaries. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

A serial of 'comb-like and trough-like' folds developed in eastern Sichuan, controlled by the multi-layer detachment folding, is different from the classical Jura-type structure in their development. The key factor resulting in the development of these structures is the occurrence of detachment layers in different parts of Neoprotozoic to Mesozoic stratigraphy of study area, which, from the bottom to the top, are the lower part of Banxi Group, Lower Cambrian (Niutitang Formation), Lower Silurian (Longmaxi Formation and Luoreping Formation), Upper Permian (Wujiaping Formation) and Lower Triassic (Daye Formation). On the basis of field survey combined with sand-box modeling, this study argued that the detachment layer of the lower part of Banxi Group controlled the development of the 'comb-like' folds, and the lower part of Cambrian detachment layer controlled the development of 'trough-like' folds. Because of several detachment layers occurring in the study area, the development of duplex structures different scales is an important deformation mechanism, and the duplexes are the important structures distinguished from the typical detachment folding structures. Due to these duplexes, the surface structures and structural highs may not be the structural highs in the depth. In this article the structure of subjective well-being (SWB), the relationship between household income and SWB and mean differences in components of SWB in China and the USA are investigated. Both China and the USA were characterized in a three-factor model of SWB (life satisfaction, positive affect and negative affect). Household income was more strongly positively correlated with the three major components of SWB in China than in the USA. The occurrence of the Pishikou mafic dike in the Qingdao region, China provides important constraints on the origin of Late Cretaceous (86–78 Ma) mafic magmatism on the eastern North China craton. The Pishikou mafic dike is distributed in the Cretaceous Laoshan granitoid body, Qingdao region and contains peridotitic and granulitic xenoliths, xenocrysts, and megacrysts. Rocks from the Pishikou mafic dike are basanites and have low SiO2 (< 42 wt%) and Al2O3 (12.5 wt%) contents, and high MgO (> 8 wt%), total alkalis (Na2O + K2O > 4.8 wt%, Na2O/K2O > 1), TiO2 (> 2.5 wt%), CaO (> 9 wt%) and P2O5 (> 1 wt%). In trace element abundances, they are highly enriched in large ion lithophile elements (LILEs) and light rare-earth elements (LREEs) (ΣREE = 339–403 ppm, (La/Yb)N = 39–42) without high field strength element (HFSE) depletion. These rocks have radiogenic Sr and Pb, and less radiogenic Nd isotopic compositions [(87Sr/86Sr)i > 0.7059, εNd ≈ 2.7–3.8 (206Pb/204Pb)i ≈ 18.0 ± 0.1]. The diagnostic elemental ratios, such as Nb/La, Nb/U, and Nb/Th, are compatible with those of mid-oceanic ridge basalts (MORBs) and oceanic island basalts (OIBs). Therefore, the Pishikou mafic dike has a geochemical feature completely different from those of the Early Cretaceous mafic dikes from the Qingdao region, but similar to those of back-arc basalts from the Japan Sea. This geochemical feature suggests that the Pishikou mafic dike was derived from an asthenosphere source, but contaminated by materials from the subducted Pacific slab. The discovery of this mafic dike thus provides a petrological evidence for the contribution of subducted Pacific slab to the Late Cretaceous magmatism in the Qingdao region of the eastern North China craton. Nutrient concentrations and N : P ratios have changed significantly in the past 40 years in the Bohai and Yellow Sea. How do these changes influence or contribute to the growth of phytoplankton? Nutrient enrichment experiments were conducted in 1998 and 1999 to shed light on which was the first nutrient to limit algal growth and uptake rates of nitrogen and phosphorus. Significant variance analysis, together with nutrient concentration and ratio, demonstrated that phosphorus was the first nutrient to limit the growth of phytoplankton in the Laizhou Bay (South Bohai); nitrogen was the first, whilst phosphate might be the potential, nutrient to limit the growth of phytoplankton in the West Yellow Sea; the Central Yellow Sea was oligotrophic and any one of nitrogen, phosphorus and silicon would limit the growth of phytoplankton; and silicon was confirmed not to limit the growth of phytoplankton, although the silicate concentration decreased acutely, in the Laizhou Bay. Moreover, the ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus in phytoplankton uptake was smaller than that in seawater, which suggested that phosphorus was preferentially used before nitrogen by the phytoplankton. The preference of phosphorus over nitrogen indicates a further limitation of phosphorus in the Laizhou Bay, and increases the high possibility that phosphorus, rather than nitrogen, is the first nutrient to limit the growth of phytoplankton in the West Yellow Sea. Half-saturation constants (Ks) of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) and phosphate in the Bohai and Yellow Sea were 1.80 μM and 0.13 μM, respectively. Neoproterozoic igneous rocks are widely distributed in the Dunhuang-Alxa Block, northwest China, and record geodynamic processes caused by the assembly and breakup of Rodinia. In this study, we present new petrological, geochemical, and zircon U-Pb- Hf isotope data for the Langshan gabbros in the northeastern Alxa Block. Langshan gabbros (827-819 Ma) have depleted whole-rock Nd (+3.2 to +4.9) and zircon Hf (+4 to +21) isotopic compositions and weak enrichments in large-ion lithophile elements. These rocks were probably derived by partial melting of a depleted mantle wedge metasomatized by fluids released from a subducted slab in a back-arc basin environment. Geochemical and zircon Hf isotope data for early Neoproterozoic igneous rocks are consistent with the presence of a long-lived (ca. 930-810 Ma) retreating subduction zone along the northern margin of the Dunhuang-Alxa Block, indicating it was located at the northern margin of Rodinia. Some mantle plume-related magmatism, including A1-type silicic volcanic rocks in the Langshan Group and Jinchuan ultramafic-mafic intrusions, occurred in the interior of the Dunhuang-Alxa Block, which was similar to early Neoproterozoic plumerelated magmatism (ca. 850-820 Ma) in the interior of northern Rodinia. The temporal link between subduction and extension suggests that this retreating subduction zone along the northern margin of Rodinia, in combination with a mantle plume beneath its interior, resulted in lithospheric extension and break-up of Rodinia during ca. 850-810 Ma. Classical swine fever (CSF), caused by classical swine fever virus (CSFV), is a highly contagious disease of swine with high morbidity and mortality that negatively affects the pig industry worldwide, in particular in China. Soon after the endocytosis of CSFV, the virus makes full use of the components of host cells to complete its life cycle. The endocytosis sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) system is a central molecular machine for membrane protein sorting and scission in eukaryotic cells that plays an essential role in many physiological metabolic processes, including invasion and egress of envelope viruses. However, the molecular mechanism that ESCRT uses to regulate the replication of CSFV is unknown. In this study, we demonstrated that the ESCRT-I complex Tsg101 protein participates in clathrin-mediated endocytosis of CSFV and is also involved in CSFV trafficking. Tsg101 assists the virus in entering the host cell through the late endosome (Rab7 and Rab9) and finally reaching the lysosome (Lamp-1). Interestingly, Tsg101 is also involved in the viral replication process by interacting with nonstructural proteins 4B and 5B of CSFV. Finally, confocal microscopy showed that the replication complex of Tsg101 and double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) or NS4B and NS5B protein was close to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), not the Golgi, in the cytoplasm. Collectively, our finding highlights that Tsg101 regulates the process of CSFV entry and replication, indicating that the ESCRT plays an important role in the life cycle of CSFV. Purpose: To evaluate the effects of half-load doses (HLD) of ticagrelor and clopidogrel on elderly acute coronary syndrome patients (ACS) over a period of 90 days. Methods: Seventy-four patients diagnosed as ACS were included in this trial. The patients were randomly distributed into group 1 (treated with HLD ticagrelor, 90 mg LD) and group 2 (treated with clopidogrel, 300 mg LD). The interaction of treatment effect was evaluated using Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression models. Results: Within three months, a total of 12 patients (16.21 %) died of myocardial infarction or stroke. The endpoint of HLD ticagrelor-treated elderly ACS patients was 20 %, and the incidence of clopidogreltreated endpoints was 14.81 %. Conclusion: In the first 45 patients treated with HLD ticagrelor, their cumulative incidence of cardiac events was relatively high. However, there were no considerable changes in the therapeutic benefits of these two drugs in elderly ACS patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

China’s historiographical traditions tell of the successful control of a Great Flood leading to the establishment of the Xia dynasty and the beginning of civilization. However, the historicity of the flood and Xia remain controversial. Here, we reconstruct an earthquakeinduced landslide dam outburst flood on the Yellow River about 1920 BCE that ranks as one of the largest freshwater floods of the Holocene and could account for the Great Flood. This would place the beginning of Xia at ~1900 BCE, several centuries later than traditionally thought. This date coincides with the major transition from the Neolithic to Bronze Age in the Yellow River valley and supports hypotheses that the primary state-level society of the Erlitou culture is an archaeological manifestation of the Xia dynasty. The previously proposed and tested bicultural self theory (Lu, 2007a; Lu & Yang, 2006) was further extended to mainland Chinese in the People's Republic of China, and potential subcultural differences across the Chinese strait were explored. Results indicated that mainland Chinese generally endorsed various aspects of the individual-oriented self more strongly, but the two groups across the strait were not different in their overall endorsement of the social-oriented self. As social orientation is rooted in traditional Chinese conceptualization of the self and the individual orientation is brought in with modern Western influences, this pattern of differentiation was understood in the context of both common heritage and differing phases of societal modernization in mainland China and Taiwan. In addition, a brief version (24 items) of the “Individual- and Social-oriented Self” scale (ISS; Lu, 2007a, 2007b) was successfully constructed, and its reliability and validity mirrored its original full version of 40 items. Objective: The aim of this study was to update the epidemic situation of dengue fever (DF) and provide new insights for the consideration of disease control in Fujian province, China., Methods: Details about DF cases in Fujian reported during 2004-2017 were collected and analyzed. The envelope (E) genes of isolates of dengue virus (DENV) were sequenced for phylogenetic analysis., Results: The number of imported DF cases had increased dramatically since 2013, and the source regions expanded from Southeast Asia to South Asia, America, Oceania, and Africa, as well as the surrounding provinces. This resulted in local outbreaks and indigenous cases of DF that occurred more frequently, with 10 of 13 local outbreaks and 85.9% (1,252/1,458) of indigenous cases reported in 2013-2017. Compared with only two coastal cities before 2013, four coastal and one inland city in 2013-2017 experienced the local DF outbreaks. The phylogenetic analysis of E genes confirmed that the import of DENV, not only from abroad but also from the surrounding provinces, played an important role in dissemination and local outbreaks of DF in Fujian., Conclusions: The frequent import of DF cases from not only abroad but also the surrounding provinces resulted in increased incidence, frequent local outbreaks, and expansion of distribution in Fujian in recent years.
