Newly emerging infectious diseases are vital issues that impact global health, social stability, economic development, and national security. While infectious disease prevention and control is a highly practical discipline, effective theoretical guidance remains indispensable in infectious disease prevention and control practices. During the past three years of responding to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, we have observed that the traditional "Three-Step Two-Factor" theory is not sufficient to meet the contemporary societal needs for newly emerging infectious disease prevention and control. Building upon years of experience in responding to infectious diseases, we have innovatively developed the "Triangle Model" theory for the prevention and control of infectious diseases. This model has been successfully applied in China's practices and management decisions during the COVID-19 pandemic. We introduce the definition, characteristics of the "Triangle Model" theory, as well as shared practical experience in China, to provide a theoretical reference for future prevention and control of newly emerging infectious diseases in China and other countries. Background: Long-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on health services utilization is unknown.We aim to assess the long-term effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on health services utilization in China. Methods: Between Jan 2017 and Dec 2021, we conducted a nationwide longitudinal study using routinely collected data on health services utilization in the National Health Information System of China. We extracted national and provincial data of demographic characteristics, socio-economic characteristics, and health resources. Interrupted time-series segmented negative binominal regression models were used. Results: A total of 34.2 billion health facilities visits and 1.1 billion inpatients discharged were included. The largest negative impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the health services utilization was during containment period, that health facility visits were observed 32% reduction in hospitals (adjusted incidence risk ratios [aRRs] 0.68, 95%CI: 0.50-0.92), 27% reduction in community health centers (aRR 0.73, 95%CI: 0.57-0.93), and 22% reduction township centers (aRR 0.78, 95%CI: 0.67-0.91), respectively. The impact on health facility visits and inpatients discharged were reduced and eliminated over time (all p>0.05). However, the negative impact on utilization rate of beds, average length of stay, average inpatient costs, and average outpatient costs in different level of health facilities still existed two years later (all p<0.05). Conclusions: The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on health services utilization was largest during containment period and reduced over time, but it still existed two years later. There are disparities in the recovery of health services. Our findings highlighted the importance of maintaining primary healthcare services during the pandemic and strengthen resilient health system on the rapid recovery of medical services. Aims. To estimate the association of catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) with the risk of depression in middle-aged and old people in China. Methods. We used data of 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2018 from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, which covered 150 counties of 28 provinces in China. CHE was calculated as out-of-pocket health expenditure exceeding 40% of a household's capacity to pay. Depression was measured by a 10-item Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale. We evaluated CHE prevalence and applied Cox proportional hazard models to estimate adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs) and 95% confident intervals (CIs) for the risk of depression among participants with CHE after controlling potential confounders, compared with those without CHE. Results. Among 5765 households included in this study, CHE prevalence at baseline was 19.24%. The depression incidence of participants with CHE (8.00 per 1000 person-month) was higher than that of those without CHE (6.81 per 1000 person-month). After controlling confounders, participants with CHE had a 13% higher risk (aHR = 1.13, 95% CI: 1.02-1.26) of depression than those without CHE. In subgroup analysis, the association of CHE with depression was significant in males and in people with chronic diseases, of younger age, living in rural areas and of lowest family economic level (all P < 0.05). Conclusions. Nearly one of five middle-aged and old people in China incurred CHE, and CHE was associated with the risk of depression. Concerted efforts should be made to monitor CHE and related depression episode. Background: We aimed to examine the effect of physical activity on different cognitive domains among patients with diabetes.Methods: We used two waves of data from the Chinese Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS, 2013-2015), a nationally representative dataset of Chinese population aged over 45. Total physical activity scores were calculated based on the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Executive function and episodic memory were used as measures of cognitive function. We conducted lagged dependent variable models to explore the association between physical activity and cognitive function in full sample as well as two different age groups (45-65, ≥65).Results: 862 diabetic patients were included. We found that diabetic participants who had greater level of physical activity at baseline were associated with better episodic memory function in 2 years (p < 0.05). Moreover, physical activity was significantly associated with less decline in episodic memory in fully adjusted models, and the associations were stronger among patients aged 45-65 years (p < 0.05). No statistically significant association was found between physical activity and executive function in all age groups.Conclusions: Physical activity may prevent some of the potential decline in episodic memory in diabetic patients. Clinicians and public health departments should strengthen the promotion of physical activity and develop early screening tools among diabetic participants to prevent the progression of cognitive impairment. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major public health problem worldwide. China has the world's largest burden of HBV infection and will be a major contributor towards the global elimination of hepatitis B disease by 2030. The country has made good progress in reducing incidence of HBV infection in the past three decades. The achievements are mainly due to high vaccination coverages among children and high coverage of timely birth-dose vaccine for prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HBV (both > 95%). However, China still faces challenges in achieving its target of 65% reduction in mortality from hepatitis B by 2030. Based on targets of the World Health Organization's Global health sector strategy on viral hepatitis 2016-2021, we highlight further priorities for action towards HBV elimination in China. To achieve the impact target of reduced mortality we suggest that the service coverage targets of diagnosis and treatment should be prioritized. First, improvements are needed in the diagnostic and treatment abilities of medical institutions and health workers. Second, the government needs to reduce the financial burden of health care on patients. Third, better coordination is needed across existing national programmes and resources to establish an integrated prevention and control system that covers prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment of HBV infection across the life cycle. Background: To assess socioeconomic inequality in periconceptional folic acid supplementation in China.Methods: We used data of periconceptional folic acid (FA) supplementation of rural Chinese women from the National Free Preconception Health Examination Project from 2010 to 2012 and socioeconomic level data from the National Bureau of Statistics. We used logistic models to assess the associations between the prevalence of taking FA and the sociodemographic characteristics of the participants, the couples, and the socioeconomic levels of their region of residence.Results: Of the 907,720 included women, 682,315 (75.62%) of the women reported taking FA. The prevalence of FA supplementation was significantly higher in participants aged 21-29 (75.87%) than in those women aged 40-49 (68.44%, p < 0.01). The prevalence of FA supplementation was significantly higher in the region with the highest Per Capita Gross Regional Product than in the regions with lower Per Capita Gross Regional Product (aOR = 12.20 [95% CI:9.54-15.61]). The higher the per capita net income of farmer households in the region, the higher the prevalence of FA supplementation (aOR = 1.95 [95% CI:1.74-2.18]).Conclusions: The rate of periconceptional FA supplementation among rural Chinese women has increased with the support of China's Health System Reform policy. The peel of Citrus reticulata can be useful as a kind of traditional Chinese medicine in China. The circular complete chloroplast genome of Citrus reticulata was 160,101 bp in length with the typical quadripartite structure of angiosperms, including 87,721 bp large single-copy region (LSC), 18,394 bp small single-copy region (SSC) of and a pair of 26,993 bp inverted repeat (IR) regions. The overall nucleotide composition of chloroplast genome sequence is 30.5% A, 31.0% T, C (19.6%), G (18.9%), and the total GþC content of 38.5%. A total of 138 genes were annotated in chloroplast genome of C. reticulata. The phylogenetic tree result showed that C. reticulata was evolutionarily close to Citrus sinensis in the family Rutaceae the genus Citrus by the maximum-likelihood (ML) method. Avian metapneumovirus causes acute respiratory tract infection and reductions in egg production in various avian species. We isolated and characterized an increasingly prevalent avian metapneumovirus subgroup C strain from meat-type commercial chickens with severe respiratory signs in China.
