Objectives: To investigate the diagnostic value of fibrinogen (FIB) in patients with rib fractures complicated by lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Methods: Analyzing data from 493 patients at Shijiazhuang Third Hospital, FIB levels at 24, 48, and 72 h post-injury were compared between DVT and non-DVT groups. Results: DVT group had elevated FIB levels at all times (p <.001). FIB at 24 h showed highest AUC, particularly in patients with BMI <28. Conclusion: In conclusion, measuring FIB at 24 h post-injury enhances DVT detection in rib fracture patients, with potential BMI-related variations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) often experience muscle loss due to pain and limited mobility. Nutritional supplementation and rehabilitation may positively affect the decline in muscle function. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether whey protein intervention, in addition to conventional rehabilitation training, is beneficial in improving muscle function and quality of life in patients after TKA. METHODS: 72 patients who met the criteria were selected for this randomized controlled study. For the experimental group, whey protein was used as a daily supplement for 12 weeks, while the control group was given a placebo, during which both groups received conventional rehabilitation training. Muscle strength and each of the secondary observables needed to be measured and statistically analyzed preoperatively and at 4, 8, and 12 weeks post-intervention. RESULTS: In total, 62 subjects completed the study: 32 in the experimental group and 30 in the control group. Both groups showed significant improvement in muscle strength, VAS, ROM, AKS and leg circumference after 12 weeks of treatment. Compared to the control group, patients in the experimental group showed significant improvement in muscle strength, VAS, ROM, AKS and leg circumference (p = 0.001, p = 0.002, p = 0.001, p = 0.001, p = 0.001, respectively) after 12 weeks of treatment. CONCLUSION: The 12-week intervention of whey protein nutritional supplement showed significant improvement in muscle mass and function among post-TKA patients besides aiding with conventional rehabilitation exercise. Objectives: To determine the characteristics of lumbar foraminal stenosis (LFS) on magnetic resonance (MR) images and their association with back pain and radiating leg pain in a population-based sample of Chinese subjects. Methods: This study was an extension of the Hangzhou Lumbar Spine Study, a cross-sectional study focusing on back pain and lumbar spine MR imaging findings. Questionnaire data, including demographics, lifestyle, occupational exposures, back pain and radiating leg pain were included. On lumbar spine MR images, disc degeneration was assessed using Pfirrmann grade and Modic changes were evaluated. Using Lee's scale, the L3-S1 intervertebral foramina were evaluated, with grade 2–3 representing substantial LFS and grade 0–1 no LFS. Characteristics of LFS were noted, and associations of LFS with back pain and radiating leg pain were examined. Results: Among the 644 study subjects, 141 (21.9%) had at least one LFS, and its occurrence was associated with greater age (OR = 1.93 for each 10 years, p < 0.001). Substantial LFS was associated with the presence of back pain (OR = 1.92, p = 0.001) and the intensity of the worst back pain (Coef = 8.30, p < 0.001) over the past 12 months, and disabling back pain during their lifetime (OR = 2.25, p < 0.001). Substantial LFS was also associated with leg pain (OR = 14.27, p < 0.001), with a sensitivity of 75.7% for the presence of radiating leg pain and a specificity of 81.4%. Conclusion: Substantial LFS on MR images was a common age-related degenerative phenotype in adults, and appears to be an independent risk factor for back pain and leg pain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: The widespread use of agricultural machinery in China has increased the incidence of agricultural machinery-related injuries, posing challenges to on-site medical rescue. This study explores resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) as a life-saving intervention for a patient with severe trauma from agricultural machinery. CASEPRESENTATION: This study reviews the emergency medical response for a 70-year-old male who suffered machinery entanglement injuries in an agricultural field in western China. The intervention involved a tiered multidisciplinary medical response, including the implementation of REBOA. CONCLUSION: This case demonstrates the successful use of REBOA in the prehospital setting in China. While prehospital REBOA use is rare, it is increasingly reported in both military and civilian contexts in austere environments in different countries. Lower limb body shape is important in the design of functional pants. The skin, muscles, and body shapes of the lower limbs of wheelchair users may differ from healthy people because of the different shapes of their legs and the prolonged seating position. This study aimed to classify the shapes of the lower limbs of adult female wheelchair users. The lower body measurement of 384 female wheelchair users was obtained. The principal component analysis and two-step cluster analysis were used to categorise the body shapes into three different types and five different size standards. Based on the study findings, female wheelchairs have larger waist, belly, and hip circumferences than healthy individuals, with 89.3% of them having prominent hips. Therefore, the design and production of trousers for wheelchair users should take into consideration the classification of lower limb shapes and sizes reported in this study. Introduction: Venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, is a common and potentially fatal post-surgery complication. Research has shown that 50% of VTE causes are intraoperative, with the risk of occurrence highest during and immediately post-surgery. Therefore, strategies for early assessment and prevention should be established. Objective: To identify optimal equipment selection, compression protocols, and strategies for complication prevention and management during intraoperative intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC), this study aims to synthesize the best available evidence. The objective is to inform accurate risk assessment and facilitate early mechanical prophylaxis against venous thrombosis. Methods: The Practical Application to Clinical Evidence model proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute was utilized. Indicators were identified using the available best evidence from January 2023 to October 2023, and a baseline review was conducted. Negative factors were identified based on clinical evidence-based practice. The implementation rates of different indicators before (n = 372) and after (n = 405) evidence-based practice, the incidence rates of intraoperative IPC-related adverse events and VTE, and the risk of venous thrombosis before (n = 50) and after (n = 50) practice were identified and compared. Furthermore, medical staff's knowledge of best practices for intraoperative IPC was assessed through pre- and post-intervention surveys involving 109 operating room personnel. Results: All review indicators significantly improved (P < 0.01) after the evidence-based practice, and 9 reached 100%. Two intraoperative venous thrombosis events occurred before the evidence-based practice, with an incidence rate of 0.53%; no intraoperative venous thrombosis event occurred after the evidence-based practice, with no significant difference (X2 = 2.171, P = 0.141 > 0.05). However, there were significant differences in intraoperative venous blood hemodynamics before and after the practice (P < 0.05). Moreover, 9 IPC-related adverse events, including 4 cases of skin pressure, 3 cases of skin allergy, and 2 cases of lower limb circulation disorders, were reported before the evidence-based practice, with an incidence rate of 2.4%. Notably, no intraoperative IPC-associated adverse events occurred after the evidence-based practice(X2 = 9.913, P < 0.01). Meanwhile, the score of comprehension of the standard utilization of IPC for preventing venous thrombosis by medical staff in the operating room was 93.34 ± 3.64 after the evidence-based practice, which was higher than that (67.55 ± 5.45) before the evidence-based practice. Overall, the clinical practice was significantly improved the evidence-based practice. Conclusions: Applying intraoperative IPC utilization standards based on the best evidence in clinical practice effectively reduces the intraoperative IPC-associated adverse event rate and the risks of intraoperative venous thrombosis. It also improves the execution rates and compliance with mechanical prevention standards in the operating room by medical staff. Future research should prioritize the development and refinement of best clinical practices for intraoperative venous thrombosis prevention, with a particular emphasis on the integration of mechanical prophylaxis strategies. Purpose: Older adults frequently encounter health challenges, such as impaired balance and muscle health, which increase risk of falls. The current study investigated the effectiveness of the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) technique in improving balance and muscle health among older adults with high fall risk. Method: A total of 160 older adults with high fall risk were randomized into control and intervention groups. Over 6 months, the control group received standard interventions, while the intervention group received the same interventions and additional PNF training. Results: Both groups demonstrated improvements in balance function over time, with the intervention group exhibiting significant improvements in Berg Balance Scale scores, Timed Up and Go test times, and 30-Second Chair Stand Test counts (p < 0.05). Bone density significantly increased in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.05), although no substantial differences in lower limb muscle mass were observed. Satisfaction rates were higher and fall incidents fewer in the intervention group. Conclusion: The PNF technique is effective in enhancing balance function and muscle health in older adults with high fall risk, demonstrating potential in reducing fall risk and improving quality of life among older adults. As a complex movement, Tai Chi (TC) could be challenging for knee control, and the compensatory changes in TC biomechanics of knee pain patients are unknown. The Brush Knee and Twist Step (BKTS) is a typical TC movement that involves basic leg motion repeated in the whole TC. This pilot study examined electromyography and retro-reflective marker trajectory data to investigate neuromuscular control strategies of the lower extremity during BKTS in TC practitioners with and without knee pain. Twelve experienced TC practitioners with (n = 6) and without knee pain (n = 6) participated. Our results revealed that knee pain practitioners presented muscle imbalance in the vastus medialis-vastus lateralis and vastus lateralis-biceps femoris, and poor alignment of the knee with the toes in TC lunge. Additionally, they adaptively developed rigid coordination strategies, showing higher levels of lower limb muscle co-contraction and activity compared to controls. Training programs for TC practitioners with knee pain should be designed to modify both abnormal muscle synergy patterns and incorrect lunge during TC, which may improve exercise safety. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of podiatrists in preventing diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) in China. Method: The study was a prospective investigation. A total of 300 patients were enrolled from May 2016 to May 2018 in Handan Central Hospital, China. All patients who participated in this study had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). All participants underwent our survey, which included basic patient data and information about DFUs. The patients were followed for one year, during which time they received appropriate intervention from podiatrists, including lifestyle guidance, callus resection, tinea grinding and ingrown nail correction. At the end of the year all the patients were surveyed again. The data before and after the year were statistically compared. Results: The results showed that the incidence of DFUs in patients with diabetes was significantly decreased after one year of intervention from podiatrists (20.7% versus 6.7%, p<0.001). Additionally, there was a negative correlation between the number of intervention visits and the number of DFU occurrences (Spearman correlation coefficient: –0.496, p<0.001). Furthermore, we found that 68 patients with a history of DFUs or amputation had an obviously reduced incidence of DFUs after intervention by a podiatrist (89.7% versus 27.9%, p<0.001). We also investigated other foot risk factors in all participants, such as limb neuropathy (76.3%), lower extremity vascular disease (65.7%) and foot paralysis (43.7%). Conclusion: The results of this study help in understanding the situation of patients with diabetes in China and to prove that standardised podiatrist intervention has an important role in inhibiting the occurrence and development of DFUs. Background: Venous thromboembolism(VTE)is a common multifactorial disease. Anticoagulant protein deficiency is the most usual hereditary thrombophilia in the Chinese people, which includes protein C(PC), protein S and antithrombin deficiencies. Case presentation: A retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, genetic information, and other relevant data of siblings diagnosed with VTE in 2020 at the Department of Pediatrics of Shenzhen Second People's Hospital. The proband, a 12-year-old female, was admitted to the hospital in December 2020 with a complaint of pain in the left lower limb for four days. The examination found that the PC activity was 53%, and B-ultrasound showed bilateral thrombosis of the great saphenous vein in the thigh segment. The proband's younger brother, a 10-year-old male, was admitted to the hospital in January 2021 due to right lower limb pain for two weeks. PC activity is 40%. B-ultrasound showed superficial venous thrombosis in the left lower limb and upper limb. Both siblings suffered from thalassemia and underwent splenectomy before recurrent thrombosis occurred. The proband's mother was asymptomatic, and her PC activity was 45%. Both cases were treated with warfarin anticoagulation, and their symptoms improved. The proband's mother was found to have a heterozygous mutation at this locus through Sanger sequencing. Conclusion: Protein C deficiency should be considered for venous thromboembolism in childhood. Muscle health plays an important role in most common age-related diseases and injuries. To date, a standardized quantitative method to assess muscle health has not yet been developed. Principal component analysis was employed to develop a predictive equation of muscular age based on muscle health variables including skeletal muscle mass of lower limb, grip strength and maximal gait speed. Then validity of muscular age was tested by comparing chronological age to muscular age of the elderly. A predictive equation of muscular age was developed. Muscular age = 0.690 × chronological age − 1.245 × skeletal muscle mass of lower limb + 0.453 × grip strength − 1.291 × maximal walking speed + 40.547. Cross-sectional validity test showed that the predictive equation of muscular age is a valid method to assess muscle health. This study cross-culturally adapted and psychometrically validated a simplified Chinese version of the Exercise-Induced Leg Pain Questionnaire (SC-EILP) for evaluating the severity of symptoms and sports ability among individuals with exercise-induced leg pain. One hundred and fourteen participants with exercise-induced leg pain were included. To assess reliability, we calculated Cronbach's α and intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). Construct validity was analysed by assessing the correlations between SC-EILP and visual analogue scale (VAS), University of California Los Angeles activity score (UCLA), and short form (36) health survey (SF-36). Factorial validity was used to establish the factor structure of the questionnaire. The EILP was cross-culturally well-adapted and translated into simplified Chinese. Each item was appropriately correlated with the total items. SC-EILP had nearly good reliability [Cronbach's α = 0.798, ICC = 0.897, 95% confidence interval 0.851–0.929]. The elimination of any one item in all did not result in a value of Cronbach's α of <0.80. SC-EILP had a very good correlation with VAS (−0.607, p < 0.01) and a moderate correlation with UCLA (0.581, p < 0.01) and physical domains of SF-36 (0.499–0.528, p < 0.01). Exploratory factor analysis revealed the 3-factor loading explained 74.736% of the total variance [Kaiser–Mayer–Olkin (KMO) = 0.672, C2 = 665.34, p < 0.001]. SC-EILP showed excellent acceptability, internal consistency, reliability, and construct validity, and could be recommended for individuals in Mainland China. This study translated and cross-culturally adapted Exercise-Induced Leg Pain Questionnaire into a Simplified Chinese version, and evaluated its reliability and validity in individuals with exercise-induced leg pain. Moderate to substantial correlations between the Simplified Chinese version of the Exercise-Induced Leg Pain Questionnaire and VAS, UCLA, as well as physical subscales of SF-36 were observed. Exploratory factor analysis revealed that the 3-factor loading explained 74.736% of the total variance [Kaiser–Mayer–Olkin (KMO) = 0.672, C2 = 665.34, p < 0.001]. Background: Video health education has been increasingly adopted in the clinic to expand patient guidance and improve perioperative outcomes. To date, however, it is unclear whether the use of short-form videos and web-based clinician-created forums actually improve the perioperative experience of patients. Objective: To evaluate the effect of application of short-form video health education on the health knowledge and satisfaction with nursing care of patients with lower extremity fractures. Methods: This study is a quasi experimental study, using convenient sampling method and grouping according to historical control., one hundred and twenty-two patients admitted with lower limb fractures to the orthopedic ward of a tertiary first-class general hospital in Fujian, China were enrolled in this study. Based on their admission order, patients admitted from September 2021 to November 2021 were enrolled into the control group (n = 61) and patients admitted from December 2021 to March 2022 were enrolled in the intervention group (n = 61). Both groups received identical admission-based patient education, perioperative care, and discharge rehabilitation instructions. The control group received the traditional education method while the intervention group received a short-form educational video in addition to the traditional education method. Patient perioperative health knowledge and patient satisfaction with nursing care during treatment of lower limb fractures were compared across the two groups. Results: Preoperative health knowledge in the intervention group was 95.1%, compared to 82.0% in the control group (χ2 = 3.954, P<0.05). The Newcastle satisfaction with nursing scales score in the intervention group was (80.902 ± 7.016) points, compared to (78.131 ± 8.213) points in the control group. These group differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The application of a short-form educational video during the perioperative care of patients with lower limb fractures may improve patients' understanding of perioperative health and increase satisfaction with nursing care. This case study examines the effectiveness of using negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) in the management of a hard-to-heal (chronic) wound with exposed ankle bone to reduce associated wound exudate and promote production of granulation tissue. A 60-year-old male patient who was able to attend wound follow-up diligently twice weekly for eight weeks, and weekly thereafter, was selected from a private hospital to take part. During each dressing change, the wound was cleansed with superoxidised cleansing solution, and minimal sharp debridement was performed. In the authors' opinion, the NPWT device used in this study is light and convenient for use in the community or home care setting. The NPWT wound dressing was connected to the NPWT machine via a connecting tube and the device then switched on using the default setting of a negative pressure of 125mmHg. Following the application of the NPWT device, the exposed ankle bone was successfully covered with healthy granulation tissue and healed within 20 weeks with minimal exudate formation in the wound. In the authors' opinion, NPWT is able to promote progress to wound healing; to minimise unnecessary dressing changes and, based on feedback from the patient, is comfortable to wear and when in use. We aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of ultrasound‐guided foam sclerotherapy combined with endoluminal radiofrequency closure in patients with varicose veins of lower extremities (VVLEs); furthermore, we aimed to provide a theoretical basis for the effective management of VVLE patients in clinical work. From January 1, 2020, to March 1, 2021, 88 patients with VVLE admitted to Third Hospital of Shandong Province were included in this retrospective study. Depending on the type of treatment, the patients were divided into study groups and control groups. The study group consisted of 44 patients who were given ultrasound‐guided foam sclerotherapy combined with endoluminal radiofrequency closure. The control group consisted of 44 patients who were given high ligation and stripping of the great saphenous vein. Efficacy indicators included postoperative venous clinical severity score (VCSS) of affected limb and postoperative visual analogue scale (VAS) score. Safety indicators included length of operation, intraoperative blood loss, length of postoperative rest in bed, length of hospital stay, postoperative heart rate, preoperative blood saturation (SpO2), preoperative mean arterial pressure (MAP), and complications. The VCSS score 6 months after operation in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P <.05). The pain VAS score in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group at 1 and 3 days after operation (both P <.05). Compared with the control group, the study group was significantly lower in length of operation, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative in‐bed time, and hospital stays (all P <.05). Heart rate and SpO2 were significantly higher, and MAP was significantly lower in the study group compared with that in the control group 12 hours after surgery (all P <.05). The overall postoperative complication rate in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P <.05). In conclusion, compared with surgical treatment of high ligation and stripping of the great saphenous vein, ultrasound‐guided foam sclerotherapy combined with endoluminal radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of VVLE disease has better efficacy and safety, which is worthy of clinical promotion. Objective To retrospectively analyze the clinical sign and symptom, pathological and genetic characteristics of a case of hereditary myopathy with early respiratory failure (HMERF). Methods and Results A 26-year-old female patient presented with muscle weakness (including the proximal and distal arms and lower legs) and myalgia, typical daytime and nighttime respiratory failure symptoms. The serum creatine kinase (CK, 258 U/L) and creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK - MB, 17.80 ng/ml) levels were increased. The EMG showed myogenic changes, and thigh muscle MRI showed selective semitendinous muscle involvement. The skeletal muscle biopsy showed the formation of cytoplasm arranged in the submuscular membrane like a "necklace". Gene test revealed a mutation of TTN gene with c.90211T > C (p. Cys30071Arg). The final diagnosis was HMERF. Conclusions The possibility of HMERF should be considered in patients with unexplained respiratory failure, especially with muscle weakness. Background and objective Lung cancer is the first leading cause of morbidity and mortality among the malignant tumors, which has become a hot issue in current research. Clinically, lung cancer is divided into small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) according to the pathological types. NSCLC includes adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and other types of lung cancer, accounting for about 80% of all lung cancer. Venous thromboembolism (VTE) includes deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), which is a recognized complication in lung cancer patients with higher morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study is to determine the incidence of DVT and reveal the risk factors for DVT in the postoperative patients with lung cancer. Methods We collected 83 postoperative patients with lung cancer admitted to the Department of Lung Cancer Surgery, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from December 2021 to December 2022. All these patients were examined by color Doppler ultrasound of lower extremity vein upon admis-sion and after operation to analyze the incidence of DVT. In order to explore the possible risk factors for DVT in these patients, we further analyzed the correlations between DVT and their clinical features. At the same time, the changes of coagulation function and platelet were monitored to investigate the value of blood coagulation in the patients with DVT. Results DVT occurred in 25 patients after lung cancer operation, and the incidence rate of DVT was 30.1%. Further analysis found that the incidences of postoperative lower limb DVT were higher in lung cancer patients of stage III+IV or over 60 years of age (P=0.031, P=0.028). D-Dimer level in patients with thrombosis was significantly higher than that in non-thrombus patients on the 1st, the 3rd, and the 5th day after operation (P<0.05), and there was no significant difference in platelets and fibrinogen (FIB) (P>0.05). Conclusion The overall incidence of DVT in our center after lung cancer patients operation was 30.1%. Late-stage and older postpatients were more likely to develop DVT, and these patients with higher D-Dimer values should be considered the possibility of VTE events. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The associations between obesity and abnormalities of upper and lower extremity arteries remain to be elucidated. This study is aimed to investigate whether general obesity and abdominal obesity are associated with upper and lower extremity artery diseases in a Chinese community population. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 13,144 participants in a Chinese community population. The associations between obesity parameters and abnormalities of upper and lower extremity arteries were evaluated. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to assess the independence of associations between obesity indicators and abnormalities of peripheral arteries. Nonlinear relationship between body mass index (BMI) and risk of ankle-brachial index (ABI) ≤ 0.9 was evaluated using a restricted cubic spline model. Results: The prevalence of ABI ≤ 0.9 and interarm blood pressure difference (IABPD) ≥ 15 mmHg in the subjects was 1.9% and 1.4% respectively. Waist circumference (WC) was independently associated with ABI ≤ 0.9 (OR 1.014, 95% CI 1.002–1.026, P = 0.017). Nevertheless, BMI was not independently associated with ABI ≤ 0.9 using linear statistical models. Meanwhile, BMI and WC were independently associated with IABPD ≥ 15 mmHg respectively (OR 1.139, 95% CI 1.100–1.181, P < 0.001, and OR 1.058, 95% CI 1.044–1.072, P < 0.001). Furthermore, prevalence of ABI ≤ 0.9 was displayed with a U-shaped pattern according to different BMI (< 20, 20 to < 25, 25 to < 30, and ≥ 30). Compared with BMI 20 to < 25, risk of ABI ≤ 0.9 was significantly increased when BMI < 20 or ≥ 30 respectively (OR 2.595, 95% CI 1.745–3.858, P < 0.001, or OR 1.618, 95% CI 1.087–2.410, P = 0.018). Restricted cubic spline analysis indicated a significant U-shaped relationship between BMI and risk of ABI ≤ 0.9 (P for non-linearity < 0.001). However, prevalence of IABPD ≥ 15 mmHg was significantly increased with incremental BMI (P for trend < 0.001). Compared with BMI 20 to < 25, the risk of IABPD ≥ 15 mmHg was significantly increased when BMI ≥ 30 (OR 3.218, 95% CI 2.133–4.855, P < 0.001). Conclusions: Abdominal obesity is an independent risk factor for upper and lower extremity artery diseases. Meanwhile, general obesity is also independently associated with upper extremity artery disease. To investigate effects of a short 8-form Tai Chi exercise on physical function, fear of falling, and depression in pre-frail elderly people living in senior communities. This 8-week randomized controlled trial was conducted in senior living communities with qualified pre-frail elderly subjects in a Tai Chi group (TCG, n= 32) and a control group (CG, n = 33). The TCG received TC intervention: three times/week, 60 min each; while the CG did usual care only. Assessments of the 30-s chair rise test (CRT), 4.5-m walking speed (WS), fear of falling (FOF), and Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), were all applied at baseline, end of 4th week, and end of 8th week. Between-group comparison at the 4th week showed significantly better outcomes in CRT (TCG: 14.56 ± 1.87; CG: 11.48 ± 2.83; P<.001) and WS (TCG: 4.28 ± 0.69; CG: 5.11 ± 1.16; P =.001) in the TCG than those in the CG, but not in FOF (TCG: 0.56 ± 0.56; CG: 0.79 ± 0.89; P =.228) and GDS (TCG: 7.91 ± 5.54; CG: 9.58 ± 6.85; P =.285). However, at the 8th week, significant differences (P<.001) were found in all four assessments: (1) CRT: TCG vs CG: 17.28 ± 2.00 vs 11.36± 2.94; (2) WS: TCG vs CG: 3.94 ± 0.59 vs 5.17 ± 1.22; (3) FOF: TCG vs CG: 0.16 ± 0.37 vs 1.00 ± 0.90; and (4) GDS: TCG vs CG: 3.84 ± 3.60 vs 9.97 ± 6.80, and the intervention effect of 8 weeks was better than at 4 weeks. For within-group comparison of the TCG, significant improvements were identified in CRT (P<.001), WS (P =.008), and FOF (P =.002); but not in GDS, P =.121 at the 4th week, and also in CRT (P<.001), WS (P<.001), FOF (P<.001), and GDS (P<.001) at the 8th week. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in the CG for pre- and post-comparison (CRT: P =.891; WS: P =.984; FOF: P =.636; GDS: P =.822). Aging is a multifactorial process associated with irreversible decline in mobility and cognitive function. However, the mechanisms underlying the relationship between mobility and cognitive function remain elusive. In specific, the mediating effect of muscle strength, which is essential to maintain mobility, on this relationship has yet to be clarified. Accordingly, we performed a cross-sectional study involving Chinese older adults to understand the role of muscle strength in the relationship between mobility and cognitive function. The cognitive function and physical performance of 657 community-dwelling participants aged over 65 years old were observed. Cognitive function was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination, whereas physical performance, including mobility and muscle strength, was measured via Timed Up-and-Go Test and knee extension strength measurement. Data were statistically analyzed using PROCESS Model 4 developed by Hayes, and 595 complete data were finally included. Physical performance (mobility and muscle strength) was significantly correlated with cognitive function (p < 0.01). Muscle strength was negatively correlated with mobility (r = -0.273, p < 0.001) and positively correlated with cognitive function (r = 0.145, p < 0.001). Muscle strength accounted for 20.1% of the total mediating effects on the relationship between mobility and cognitive function, which revealed the partial mediating role of lower extremity muscle strength in this relationship. Objective. The study aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of the Solitaire™ AB Stent System (ev3 Inc., Plymouth, MN, USA) for the treatment of acute lower extremity ischemia (ALLI) compared with conventional catheter-directed thrombolytic therapy. Methods. Retrospective analysis of patients with ALLI treated in the Department of Interventional Radiology at the First Hospital of Nanjing from January 2017 to April 2020 divided into a conventional (CDT) group (n = 106) and a percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy (PMT) group (n = 55) according to the procedure. PMT was performed using the Solitaire™ AB stent system. The combined clinical outcomes of mortality, major amputation, recurrent ischemia, and major morbidity were compared between the two groups. Results. Of the 161 patients, 128 (79.5%) did not have a composite clinical outcome after 12 months of follow-up, namely, 78 CDT patients and 50 PMT patients, with significant differences in composite clinical outcome (26.4% vs. 9.1%, P = 0.010) and mortality (19.8% vs. 7.3%, P = 0.037) between them. Thrombolytic drug dose (19.34 ± 5.93 vs. 13.55 ± 6.54 mg, P < 0.001) and length of hospital stay (8.29 ± 3.91 vs. 5.49 ± 1.18 days, P = 0.003) were significantly lower in the PMT group. Conclusion. PMT with the Solitaire™ AB Stent System is safer and more effective in treating patients with Rutherford stage I-IIB ALLI, with the advantage of rapid opening of obstructed vessels, shorter thrombolysis time, reduced thrombolytic dose, and improved blood flow to the infrapopliteal vessels. Sedentary behaviour is associated with a range of adverse health conditions. Population-based studies have rarely examined the distribution and associated factors of accelerometer-measured sedentary behaviour patterns in rural-dwelling older adults. This population-based study included 2096 rural-dwelling older adults (age ≥60 years; 59.0% women) derived from baseline participants of the MIND-China Study. Total sedentary time and patterns (e.g., uninterrupted bouts and breaks) were derived from the hip-worn accelerometers for 7 days. Physical function was assessed using the Short Physical Performance Battery test. Data were analysed using general linear models. Overall, participants spent 58.8% of daily waking time in sedentary behaviour, with nearly half of sedentary time being accumulated through sedentary bouts of 30+ minutes. Men spent more total and accumulated sedentary time than women in each sedentary bout duration, while women had more daily 1+ minute sedentary bouts than men (all P < 0.001). Controlling for moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and other confounders, more prolonged sedentary time and fewer breaks were significantly associated with poor physical function, balance, lower limb strength, and walking speed (all P < 0.001). Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention among real-world surgical inpatients who received panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) combined with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH). Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted among surgical patients between January 2016 and November 2018 in Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China. Participants received LMWH alone or PNS combined with LMWH for preventing DVT. The primary outcome was incidence of lower extremity DVT, which was screened once a week. Participants in the LMWH group were given LMWH (enoxaparin) via hypodermic injection, 4000–8000 AxalU once daily. Participants in the exposure group received PNS (Xuesaitong oral tablets, 100 mg, 3 times daily) combined with LMWH given the same as LMWH group. Results: Of the 325 patients screened for the study, 281 participants were included in the final analysis. The cohort was divided into PNS + LMWH group and LMWH group with 134 and 147 participants, respectively. There was a significant difference of DVT incidence between two groups (P=0.01), with 21 (15.7%) incident DVT in the PNS + LMWH group, and 41 (27.9%) incident DVT in the LMWH group. Compared with participants without DVT, the participants diagnosed with DVT were older and had higher D-dimer level. The multivariate logistic regression model showed a significant lower risk of incident DVT among participants in the PNS + LMWH group compared with the LMWH group (odds ratio 0.46, 95% confidence interval, 0.25–0.86). There were no significant differences in thromboelaslography values (including R, K, Angle, and MA) and differences in severe bleeding between two groups. No symptomatic pulmonary embolism occurred during the study. Conclusion: Combined application of PNS and LMWH can effectively reduce the incidence of DVT among surgical inpatients compared with LMWH monotherapy, without increased risk of bleeding. Background: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a leading cause of global disability. According to current guidelines, exercise is the most recommended and important non-surgical treatment for knee OA. However, the best type of exercise for this condition remains unclear. Evidence has shown that traditional Chinese exercises may be more effective. Therefore, the current prospective, two-armed, single-center randomized controlled trial (RCT) aimed to identify an effective physiotherapy for knee OA.Methods/design: In total, 114 patients with painful knee OA will be recruited from the orthopedic outpatient department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Affiliated Sixth People's Hospital. To compare the therapeutic effect of two different home-based exercise programs, the participants will be randomly assigned into the experimental group (leg swing exercise) or the control group (quadriceps strengthening exercise). Each participant in both groups will be required to attend five individual sessions with a physiotherapist who will teach the exercise program and monitor progress. Participants will be instructed to perform the exercises at home every day for 12 weeks. Clinical outcomes will be assessed at baseline and 12 and 24 weeks after starting the intervention. The primary outcomes are average overall knee pain and physical function in daily life. The secondary outcomes include other measures of knee pain, physical function, patient-perceived satisfactory improvement, health-related quality of life, physical activity and performance, muscle strength of the lower limb, and adherence.Discussion: This study will provide more evidence on the effects of traditional Chinese exercise on improving physical function and relieving joint pain among patients with knee OA. Purpose: The effects of short-term blood flow restriction (BFR) exercise on muscle blood flow perfusion and performance during high-intensity exercise were determined in elite para-alpine standing skiers to assess whether this would be an effective training regimen for elite athletes with disabilities. Methods : Nine national-level para-alpine standing skiers (mean age, 20.67 +/- 1.34 yr; four women) were recruited. Nondominant lower limbs were trained with BFR (eight in final analyses), and dominant lower limbs were trained without BFR (seven in final analyses). The 2-wk protocol included high-load resistance, local muscle endurance (circuit resistance training), and aerobic endurance (stationary cycling) training performed 4 times a week, with BFR during local muscle endurance and aerobic endurance sessions. Muscle strength was measured by maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) in the knee extensors; microcirculatory blood perfusion (MBP), by laser Doppler blood flow; and muscle strength and endurance, by the total amount of work (TW) performed during high-intensity centrifugal and concentric contractions. Results : BFR significantly increased absolute and relative MVIC (P < 0.001, P = 0.001), MBP (P = 0.011, P = 0.008), and TW (P = 0.006, P = 0.007) from pretraining values, whereas only absolute MVIC increased without BFR (P = 0.047). However, the MVIC increase with BFR exercise (35.88 +/- 14.83 N[middle dot]m) was significantly greater (P = 0.040) than without BFR exercise (16.71 +/- 17.79 N[middle dot]m). Conclusions : Short-term BFR exercise significantly increased strength endurance, muscle strength, and MBP in national-level para-alpine standing skiers. Our study provides new evidence that BFR exercise can improve local muscle blood perfusion during high-intensity exercise and informs BFR exercise strategies for athletes with disabilities. Kinect has been utilized as a cost-effective, easy-to-use motion capture sensor using the Kinect skeleton algorithm. However, a limited number of landmarks and inaccuracies in tracking the landmarks' positions restrict Kinect's capability. In order to increase the accuracy of motion capturing using Kinect, joint use of the Kinect skeleton algorithm and Kinect-based marker tracking was applied to track the 3D coordinates of multiple landmarks on human. The motion's kinematic parameters were calculated using the landmarks' positions by applying the joint constraints and inverse kinematics techniques. The accuracy of the proposed method and OptiTrack (NaturalPoint, Inc., USA) was evaluated in capturing the joint angles of a humanoid (as ground truth) in a walking test. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed method in capturing the kinematic parameters of a human, lower body joint angles of five healthy subjects were extracted using a Kinect, and the results were compared to Perception Neuron (Noitom Ltd., China) and OptiTrack data during ten gait trials. The absolute agreement and consistency between each optical system and the robot data in the robot test and between each motion capture system and OptiTrack data in the human gait test were determined using intraclass correlations coefficients (ICC3). The reproducibility between systems was evaluated using Lin's concordance correlation coefficient (CCC). The correlation coefficients with 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were interpreted substantial for both OptiTrack and proposed method (ICC > 0.75 and CCC > 0.95) in humanoid test. The results of the human gait experiments demonstrated the advantage of the proposed method (ICC > 0.75 and RMSE = 1.1460°) over the Kinect skeleton model (ICC < 0.4 and RMSE = 6.5843°). Objective. To compare the safety of different anesthesia methods combined with intravenous fast channel anesthesia in elderly lower extremity surgery and the effect on postoperative outcome. Methods. A total of 106 elderly patients who underwent lower extremity orthopedic surgery in our hospital from February 2018 to February 2021 were selected and randomly divided into the control group (n = 53) and the observation group (n = 53) according to random number table. All patients received intravenous fast-track anesthesia. On this basis, the control group received spinal-epidural anesthesia, and the observation group received iliac fascial space block on the affected side combined with sciatic nerve block. The operation conditions, blood pressure and heart rate changes, awakening time, postoperative ICU admission rate, and complications were compared between the two groups. Results. There was no statistical difference in the success rate of one-time operation between the two groups (P > 0.05). The times of using analgesics and vasoactive drugs and the dosage of propofol in the observation group during the operation were lower than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). At T2, T3, and T4, the levels of HR, DBP, and SBP in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). After operation, the time of awakening, spontaneous breathing recovery, and extubation in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the difference were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The incidence of complications in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, the cognitive impairment was the most significant one in the incidence of single complication, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion. Based on the combined intravenous fast channel anesthesia, the operation difficulty of the affected side iliac fascial space block combined with sciatic nerve block is the same as that of spinal-epidural anesthesia. It has a higher success rate of one operation, better analgesic and anesthetic effects during the operation, and little effect on blood flow of patients. It can maintain relatively stable heart rate and blood pressure and does not easily cause postoperative complications. Its safety is higher than that of spinal-epidural anesthesia. BACKGROUND: Studies outside China have shown that there is a certain relationship between foot posture and posture stability. OBJECTIVE: Based on foot posture index scale system, to compare the effect of pronated foot posture on postural stability and proprioception. METHODS: Thirty healthy youths aged from 20 to 30 years old were enrolled, and divided into two groups according to the right foot posture index: pronated group (foot posture index > 5) and neutral group (0 ≤ foot posture index < 5) (n=15 per group). The leg standing with single leg for a longer time was defined as the dominant leg, and the other was the non-dominant leg. The length and area of center of pressure sway were evaluated by dynamic and static balance instrument. The average trajectory error and completion time of lower limbs were recorded during proprioception measurement. This study was approved by the Guangdong Second Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital [YEZY(2019)LS50]. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) In 30 subjects, center of pressure sway length in dominant leg was significantly lower than that in non-dominant leg (P < 0.01), whereas average trajectory error was significantly larger in dominant leg than that in non-dominant leg (P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in center of pressure sway area and completed time between two legs (P > 0.05). (2) When tested with single-leg (right side) static stance, sway area and length of pressure center were larger in pronated group than that in neutral group (P < 0.05), but proprioception including average trajectory and completed time was not significantly different between the two groups (P > 0.05). (3) When tested with two-leg static stance, sway length of pressure center was larger in pronated group than that in neutral group (P < 0.05); sway area of pressure center was not significantly different between the two groups (P > 0.05). (4) Results confirmed that foot posture exerts a significant effect on postural stability. Objective To summarize the clinical phenotypes and genetic mutations of DNAJB6 related myopathies. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinical information, laboratory tests, muscle MRIs, electromyography results, muscle pathology examinations and genetic mutations of 2 patients of DNAJB6 related myopathies from one family and reviewed related published literatures of DNAJB6 related myopathies. Results The proband presented with muscle weakness of both proximal and distal limbs, with lower limbs more serious than upper limbs, and proximal more serious than distal. The father of proband presented with abnormal gait, and he could only climb stairs with assistance. Serum creatine kinase (CK) levels of both patients were normal. Muscle MRIs of both patients showed different degrees of fatty infiltration. Muscle biopsies of both patients showed similar changes with dystrophic features, and some muscle fibers with rimmed vacuoles inside, as well as increased internal nuclei and a few regenerating fibers. Genetic tests proved both patients carried the same DNAJB6 gene variant, c.161A>C (p.Glu54Ala), which was the first report in mainland China. The proband was diagnosed as limb - girdle muscular dystrophy D1 (LGMD-D1) type, and the father of proband was diagnosed as distal myopathy. This family was considered as autosomal dominant DNAJB6 related myopathy. Referring to literature, heterogeneities exist in DNAJB6 related myopathies, and different clinical phenotypes could be presented in one single family. Conclusions The phenotypes of DNAJB6 related myopathies include limb - girdle muscular dystrophy and distal myopathy. Muscle pathology shows similar changes of rimmed vacuoles and dystrophic features. This reported family further expands the spectrum of phenotypes of DNAJB6 related myopathies. Background: There is still lack of data on deep vein thrombosis (DVT) following bone trauma. This study aimed to determine the epidemiologic characteristics of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of lower extremities following tibial plateau fractures. Methods: Retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data on patients presenting with tibial plateau fractures between October 2014 and December 2018 was conducted. Duplex ultrasonography (DUS) was routinely used to screen for preoperative DVT of bilateral lower extremities. Data on demographics, comorbidities, injury-related data, and laboratory biomarkers at admission were collected. Univariate analyses and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the independent risk factors associated with DVT. Results: A total of 1179 patients were included, among whom 192 (16.3%) had a preoperative DVT, with incidence rate of 1.0% for proximal and 15.3% for distal DVT. The average interval between fracture occurrence and diagnosis of DVT was 3.5 days (median, 2 days), ranging from 0 to 19 days. DVT involved the injured extremity in 166 (86.4%) patients, both the injured and uninjured extremities in 14 patients (7.3%) and only the uninjured extremity in 12 patients (6.3%). Six risk factors were identified to be associated with DVT, including gender (male vs female), hypertension, open fracture, alkaline phosphatase > 100 u/L, sodium concentration < 135 mmol/L, and D-dimer > 0.5 mg/L. Background: Limited information exists on the incidence of postoperative deep venous thromboembolism (DVT) in patients with isolated patella fractures. The objective of this study was to investigate the postoperative incidence and locations of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of the lower extremity in patients who underwent isolated patella fractures and identify the associated risk factors. Methods: Medical data of 716 hospitalized patients was collected. The patients had acute isolated patella fractures and were admitted at the 3rd Hospital of Hebei Medical University between January 1, 2016, and February 31, 2019. All patients met the inclusion criteria. Medical data was collected using the inpatient record system, which included the patient demographics, patient's bad hobbies, comorbidities, past medical history, fracture and surgery-related factors, hematological biomarkers, total hospital stay, and preoperative stay. Doppler examination was conducted for the diagnosis of DVT. Univariate analyses and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the independent risk factors. Results: Among the 716 patients, DVT was confirmed in 29 cases, indicating an incidence of 4.1%. DVT involved bilateral limbs (injured and uninjured) in one patient (3.4%). DVT involved superficial femoral common vein in 1 case (3.4%), popliteal vein in 6 cases (20.7%), posterior tibial vein in 11 cases (37.9%), and peroneal vein in 11 cases (37.9%). The median of the interval between surgery and diagnosis of DVT was 4.0 days (range, 1.0-8.0 days). Six variables were identified to be independent risk factors for DVT which included age category (> 65 years old), OR, 4.44 (1.34-14.71); arrhythmia, OR, 4.41 (1.20-16.15); intra-operative blood loss, OR, 1.01 (1.00-1.02); preoperative stay (delay of each day), OR, 1.43 (1.15-1.78); surgical duration, OR, 1.04 (1.03-1.06); LDL-C (> 3.37 mmol/L), OR, 2.98 (1.14-7.76). Conclusion: Incidence of postoperative DVT in patients with isolated patella fractures is substantial. More attentions should be paid on postoperative DVT prophylaxis in patients with isolated patella fractures. Identification of associated risk factors can help clinicians recognize the risk population, assess the risk of DVT, and develop personalized prophylaxis strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Study Objectives: To systemically describe the clinical features, polysomnography (PSG) finding, laboratory tests and single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in a clinic based Chinese primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) population., Methods: This observational study, conducted from January 2020 to October 2021 across 22 sleep labs in China, recruited 771 patients diagnosed with RLS following the 2014 RLSSG criteria. Clinical data, PSG testing, and laboratory examination and SNPs of patients with RLS were collected. A total of 32 SNPs in 24 loci were replicated using the Asian Screening Array chip, employing data from the Han Chinese Genomes Initiative as controls., Results: In this study with 771 RLS patients, 645 had primary RLS, and 617 has DNA available for SNP study. Among the 645 primary RLS, 59.7% were women. 33% had a family history of RLS, with stronger familial influence in early-onset cases. Clinical evaluations showed 10.4% had discomfort in body parts other than legs. PSG showed that 57.1% of RLS patients had periodic leg movement index (PLMI) of >5/h and 39.1% had PLMI >15/h, respectively; 73.8% of RLS patients had an Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) > 5/h, and 45.3% had an AHI >15/h. The laboratory examinations revealed serum ferritin levels <75 ng/ml in 31.6%, and transferrin saturation (TSAT) of <45% in 88.7% of RLS patients. Seven new SNPs in 5 genes showed a significant allelic association with Chinese primary RLS, with one previously reported (BTBD9) and four new findings (TOX3, PRMT6, DCDC2C, NOS1)., Conclusions: Chinese RLS patients has specific characters in many aspects. A high family history with RLS not only indicates strong genetic influence, but also reminds us to consider the familial effect in the epidemiological study. Objectives: This study was a systematic review of available data from China, and our aim was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of stenting in iliac vein compression syndrome. Methods: We searched the PubMed, National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chongqing Weipu Information Company, and Cochrane Central Register for Controlled Trials databases, and key references. Results: Twelve studies were included (nine retrospective analyses, two retrospective case series studies, and one prospective cohort study) involving 2292 patients and 1897 stented limbs. The overall primary patency rates ranged from 81.8% to 100%. Studies showed significant improvements in patients' symptoms, and ulcer healing rates ranged from 71.4% to 100% in stented limbs. The incidence of severe complications ranged from 0 to 16.8%. Conclusions: For Chinese patients with iliac vein compression syndrome, stenting provided significant efficacy regarding favorable patency rates, symptom relief, and complications. However, the quality of evidence to support the use of iliac vein stenting to treat iliac vein compression syndrome is currently weak, especially for Chinese patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: The improvement of balance and walking ability of children with spastic diplegia has always been the key and difficult point in the rehabilitation treatment of children. The treatment time is long and the effect is not ideal. ICB orthotic insole is a new customizable rehabilitation assistant tool, which is used to diagnose and improve the biomechanical problems. There are few reports about ICB orthotic insole used in the rehabilitation of children with spastic diplegia in China. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of ICB orthotic insole on balance, walking ability and correction of biological force line of lower limbs in children with spastic diplegia. METHODS: Totally 96 children with spastic diplegia were divided into observation group and control group, 48 cases in each group. The control group was given the corresponding routine rehabilitation treatment according to the condition of limb dysfunction. The observation group was wearing ICB orthopedic insole for orthopedic treatment besides routine rehabilitation treatment. Before treatment and 6 months after treatment, biomechanical parameters of lower limbs, Berg Balance Scale, GMFM88 D and E functional areas were used to evaluate the recovery of balance and walking ability of the two groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: After treatment, resting calcaneal stance position, malleolar position, hip range of motion, Berg Balance Scale score, and GMFM88 scores of the two groups were significantly improved compared with those before treatment (P < 0.05). Intergroup comparison displayed that after treatment, the above indexes in the observation group were significantly better than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The results confirm that ICB orthopedic insole can be used as an important auxiliary means of rehabilitation treatment to correct the biological force line of lower limbs, improve the balance and walking ability of children with spastic diplegia. Introduction: The lower extremity function scale (LEFS) is widely used to investigate patients' functional status due to musculoskeletal dysfunction of the lower extremity. The aims of this study were to translate and cross-culturally adapt the LEFS into simplified Chinese (SC-LEFS) and evaluate the psychometric properties in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). Methods: The SC-LEFS was translated and cross-culturally adapted on the basis of guideline. Patients scheduled for knee arthroplasty (108) were invited in this study. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was employed to assess the internal consistency. The test-retest reliability was determined by intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). Pearson's correlation coefficient was detected to evaluate the criterion validity between the SC-LEFS and WOMAC/SF-36/range of motion (ROM). Construct validity was assessed by exploratory factorial analysis. Additionally, responsiveness analysis was conducted with effect size (ES) and standardized response mean (SRM). Results: The results revealed good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.975) and good test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.937). Strong correlations were observed between the SC-LEFS and WOMAC pain/function/total, physical component summary of SF-36, and ROM. We confirmed the SC-LEFS as a two-factor structure with factor 1 and factor 2 explaining 73.781% and 5.546% of the variance, respectively. The ES (1.74) and SRM (1.95) indicated a good responsiveness. Conclusions: The SC-LEFS has been nicely adapted into simplified Chinese. It was proved to be reliable and valid for knee OA patients from China mainland who are undergoing arthroplasty. Furthermore, additional research should be conducted to assess these findings in other dysfunctions of lower extremity in a larger sample size. The increased incidence of chronic cutaneous wounds is likely to lead to increased mortality, and therefore, deserves greater attention. More insight is needed into the magnitude of the problem of chronic cutaneous wounds and methods for their prevention and treatment in China. A retrospective analysis of data retrieved from an electronic health‐records database on 3300 patients with chronic skin wounds was conducted from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018. The patients had been admitted to the medical and surgical wards of 17 third‐grade class‐A hospitals in China. The study's aim was to compare the characteristics (eg, demographic and clinical) associated with different causes and distributions of patients' chronic wounds. Among the 3300 patients, 66.03% were males and 33.97% were females. The mean age was 57 years and the increasing prevalence of chronic skin wounds with aging was quite high. The primary causes of chronic wounds were diabetes or infection, followed by pressure ulcers, trauma, and iatrogenic wounds. The distribution of skin wounds was mainly in the lower extremities (56.1%), followed by the trunk (18.6%). The mean duration of hospital stay was 29 days and the mean recurrence was 3 months. Chronic skin wounds were related to occupation, educational level, lifestyle habits, and income. The main cause of chronic skin wounds has shifted from trauma to chronic disease. Normalization checks, bacterial cultures, and antibiotic use in China need to be standardized and the training of wound specialists should be further strengthened. The association of aging and wound infection was significant. Preventive management and efficient treatment should correspond to the needs of the different regions of China.
