Backgrounds: The use of large language models (LLMs) in medicine can help physicians improve the quality and effectiveness of health care by increasing the efficiency of medical information management, patient care, medical research, and clinical decision-making. Methods: We collected 34 frequently asked questions about glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP), covering topics related to the disease's clinical manifestations, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and risk factors. We also generated 25 questions based on the 2022 American College of Rheumatology Guideline for the Prevention and Treatment of Glucocorticoid-Induced Osteoporosis (2022 ACR-GIOP Guideline). Each question was posed to the LLM (ChatGPT-3.5, ChatGPT-4, and Google Gemini), and three senior orthopedic surgeons independently rated the responses generated by the LLMs. Three senior orthopedic surgeons independently rated the answers based on responses ranging between 1 and 4 points. A total score (TS) > 9 indicated 'good' responses, 6 ≤ TS ≤ 9 indicated 'moderate' responses, and TS < 6 indicated 'poor' responses. Results: In response to the general questions related to GIOP and the 2022 ACR-GIOP Guidelines, Google Gemini provided more concise answers than the other LLMs. In terms of pathogenesis, ChatGPT-4 had significantly higher total scores (TSs) than ChatGPT-3.5. The TSs for answering questions related to the 2022 ACR-GIOP Guideline by ChatGPT-4 were significantly higher than those for Google Gemini. ChatGPT-3.5 and ChatGPT-4 had significantly higher self-corrected TSs than pre-corrected TSs, while Google Gemini self-corrected for responses that were not significantly different than before. Conclusions: Our study showed that Google Gemini provides more concise and intuitive responses than ChatGPT-3.5 and ChatGPT-4. ChatGPT-4 performed significantly better than ChatGPT3.5 and Google Gemini in terms of answering general questions about GIOP and the 2022 ACR-GIOP Guidelines. Authorities in China have been actively involved in the high-quality development of libraries, with an emphasis on supporting and extending National Reading. Providing appropriate and successful reading services requires well-prepared reading service librarians, empowered to design and deliver services that make reading enjoyable and accessible for all. Based on competency theory and empowerment theory, this study analyses the competency features of empowered reading service librarians and constructs a competency model based on those features. Through literature analysis and Behavioural Event Interview, a preliminary competency model comprising 16 discriminative competencies and 20 benchmark competencies was constructed, subsequently refined through 4 rounds of expert consultation using the Delphi method and resulting in a model with 11 discriminative competency features and 6 benchmark competency features. A questionnaire survey of reading service librarians and library users was undertaken to extract common factors and develop an iceberg model. The iceberg model comprises 4 dimensions: knowledge, skills, self-concept, and motivation, with 11 discriminative competency traits and 6 benchmark competency traits. The model extends our understanding of the important competencies underpinning the work of reading service librarians and can support developments in their professional education, performance evaluation, recruitment, and selection. Prolonged ventricular repolarization has been associated with cardiovascular disease. We sought to investigate the association of prolonged ventricular repolarization with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and the potential underlying neuropathological mechanisms in older adults. This cross-sectional study included 4328 dementia-free participants (age ≥ 65 years; 56.8% female) in the baseline examination of the Multidomain INterventions to delay dementia and Disability in rural China; of these, 989 undertook structural brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. QT, QTc, JT, JTc, and QRS intervals were derived from 12-lead electrocardiograph. MCI, amnestic MCI (aMCI), and non-amnestic MCI (naMCI) were defined following the Petersen's criteria. Volumes of gray matter (GM), white matter, cerebrospinal fluid, total white matter hyperintensities (WMH), periventricular WMH (PWMH), and deep WMH (DWMH) were automatically estimated. Data were analyzed using logistic and general linear regression models. Prolonged QT, QTc, JT, and JTc intervals were significantly associated with an increased likelihood of MCI and aMCI, but not naMCI (p < 0.05). In the MRI subsample, QT, QTc, JT, and JTc intervals were significantly associated with larger total WMH and PWMH volumes (p < 0.05), but not with DWMH volume. Statistical interactions were detected, such that prolonged QT and JT intervals were significantly associated with reduced GM volume only among participants with coronary heart disease or without APOE ε4 allele (p < 0.05). Prolonged ventricular repolarization is associated with MCI and cerebral microvascular lesions in a general population of older adults. Alluvial-lacustrine deposits are important carriers for studying paleo-hydrological information and the evolution of paleo-environments. In this study, a total of 6 optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) samples from 2 profiles in the lower and middle reaches of the Hutubi River in the North Tianshan Mountains were dated, and a comprehensive analysis was conducted by integrating sedimentary structures, grain sizes, and magnetic susceptibility characteristics to explore the sedimentary environment patterns and regional evolution processes during the Mid to late Holocene. The results revealed the following findings: (1) The OSL signal of quartz samples indicates the predominance of fast components, allowing reliable dating of regional fluvial sediments using the appropriate condition-tested coarse-grained quartz single-aliquot regenerative dose (SAR) protocol within the 90–125 μm range. (2) Analysis of sedimentary structures, grain sizes, and magnetic susceptibility characteristics reveals lithofacies of heterotopic synchronous or homotopic asynchronous in exposed profiles, with predominantly poorly sorted fine and very fine sand. Magnetic susceptibility is primarily controlled by the content of magnetic minerals in the coarse particles, while also being influenced by the combined effects of provenance input and depositional environment, indicating a complex regional sedimentary environment influenced by variable hydrodynamic conditions driven by fluvial processes. (3) Based on OSL dating results and the analysis of various environmental proxy indicators, it is determined that the climatic environment in the Middle and Late-Holocene in the downstream areas of the northern piedmonts of the Tianshan Mountains demonstrates a fluctuating pattern of wet and dry alternations. The sedimentary environment shifted from a stable state in the Mid-Holocene to an unstable state in the Late-Holocene. The intermittent appearance of wet records may be associated with increased river activity caused presumably by the release of high-altitude ice due to rising temperatures and warming conditions. Background: Selenium (Se) is essential for human health and is predominantly obtained from dietary sources, particularly rice in Hunan Province, a significant rice-producing region in southern China. Investigating the relationship between Se levels in paddy soil and rice grains, along with the associated influencing factors, is critical for enhancing Se-enriched food security. Results: Analysis of 128,992 samples collected between 2019 and 2022 revealed that the soil Se concentration in Hunan exceeded the global average, with rice grains showing promising potential for Se enrichment. Various analytical methods, including statistical analyses, co-occurrence networks, and correlation heatmaps, were utilized to scrutinize the extensive dataset. Additionally, partial least squares path analysis elucidated the interactive effects of influencing factors on soil Se concentration, rice grain Se concentration, and Se bioconcentration factor (BCF). Soil parent materials significantly affected soil Se concentration, rice grain Se concentration, and Se BCF (p < 0.01). Factors such as soil cation exchange capacity, soil organic matter, slope, and soil concentrations of Cu, Mn, and Zn demonstrated positive correlations with soil Se concentration. Similarly, these factors exhibited positive associations with rice grain Se concentration. Conversely, negative correlations were observed between certain factors and Se BCF. As a result, predictive models were developed for soil Se, rice grain Se concentration, and Se BCF. Conclusions: This study contributes valuable insights to inform policy-making for Se-enriched food production and to ensure regional nutritional equilibrium. In eastern Qinghai Province, China, landslides are a frequent hazard, yet their large-scale monitoring and assessment are under-researched. This study utilized 31 Sentinel-1A satellite images from January 4, 2020, to August 9, 2022, and applied the Small Baseline Subset Interferometry Synthetic Aperture Radar (SBAS-InSAR) method to quantify surface subsidence and infer landslide deformation rates in the Loess Plateau. We identified 491 hazardous landslides, with 14 posing significant risks to the Yellow River, major highways, and over 10,000 residents. The average line-of-sight (LOS) surface displacement rate was 118 mm/year, peaking at 298 mm. Satellite imagery revealed rapid and continuous landslide front activity. The landslides' uneven distribution aligns with the area's complex geology and environment, predominantly occurring on 20°–40° slopes with the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index values below 0.3, and aligning with nearby faults in the Hualong basin. Detailed analysis of 14 key landslides showed a marked correlation between landslide movement and monthly precipitation, offering new insights into landslide deformation mechanisms and driving factors. Background: Thyroid nodule (TN) patients in China are subject to overdiagnosis and overtreatment. The implementation of existing technologies such as thyroid ultrasonography has indeed contributed to the improved diagnostic accuracy of TNs. However, a significant issue persists, where many patients undergo unnecessary biopsies, and patients with malignant thyroid nodules (MTNs) are advised to undergo surgery therapy. Methods: This study included a total of 293 patients diagnosed with TNs. Differential methylation haplotype blocks (MHBs) in blood leukocytes between MTNs and benign thyroid nodules (BTNs) were detected using reduced representation bisulfite sequencing (RRBS). Subsequently, an artificial intelligence blood leukocyte DNA methylation (BLDM) model was designed to optimize the management and treatment of patients with TNs for more effective outcomes. Results: The DNA methylation profiles of peripheral blood leukocytes exhibited distinctions between MTNs and BTNs. The BLDM model we developed for diagnosing TNs achieved an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.858 in the validation cohort and 0.863 in the independent test cohort. Its specificity reached 90.91% and 88.68% in the validation and independent test cohorts, respectively, outperforming the specificity of ultrasonography (43.64% in the validation cohort and 47.17% in the independent test cohort), albeit with a slightly lower sensitivity (83.33% in the validation cohort and 82.86% in the independent test cohort) compared to ultrasonography (97.62% in the validation cohort and 100.00% in the independent test cohort). The BLDM model could correctly identify 89.83% patients whose nodules were suspected malignant by ultrasonography but finally histological benign. In micronodules, the model displayed higher specificity (93.33% in the validation cohort and 92.00% in the independent test cohort) and accuracy (88.24% in the validation cohort and 87.50% in the independent test cohort) for diagnosing TNs. This performance surpassed the specificity and accuracy observed with ultrasonography. A TN diagnostic and treatment framework that prioritizes patients is provided, with fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy performed only on patients with indications of MTNs in both BLDM and ultrasonography results, thus avoiding unnecessary biopsies. Conclusions: This is the first study to demonstrate the potential of non-invasive blood leukocytes in diagnosing TNs, thereby making TN diagnosis and treatment more efficient in China. It is of great significance to accurately grasp ground-level ozone concentration on a wide scale in order to cope with the increasingly serious ground-level ozone pollution problem. Currently, satellite technology can be used to monitor ground-level ozone concentration on a wide scale, but there is the problem of insufficient spatial resolution. The use of ground monitoring stations to detect ground-level ozone concentration can obtain more accurate ozone concentration around the station, but there are problems of limited number of stations and sparse distribution. Therefore, it is still a challenge to accurately grasp the ground-level ozone concentration at a large scale and high spatial resolution. To address this issue, this paper proposes a ground-level ozone concentration inversion algorithm based on deep learning methods, incorporating data from remote sensing satellites, ground monitoring stations, meteorological conditions, geography, and land use. Taking Yunnan Province in China as the experimental region and utilizing five-fold cross-validation, the model's Mean Square Error (MSE) reached 340.45 and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) reached 18.45. Compared to machine learning models, the error decreased by 14.53%, outperforming Random Forest models, Convolution Neural Networks, and Vision Transformers. Background: Astragaloside IV has emerged as a pharmaceutical monomer with great medical applications and potential. Astragaloside IV has many effects such as improving myocardial ischemia, cerebral ischemia–reperfusion injury, anti‐inflammatory, analgesic, antiviral, promoting lymphocyte proliferation, and antitumor effects. However, there are few bibliometric studies on astragaloside IV. Objectives: We aim to visualize the hotspots and trends in astragaloside IV research through bibliometric analysis to further understand the future development of basic and clinical research. Methods The articles and reviews on astragaloside IV were screened from the Web of Science Core Collection, and knowledge maps were generated using CiteSpace software. Bibliometric analysis was performed on 971 articles published from 1998 to 2022. Results: The number of articles on astragaloside IV increased yearly. These publications came from 42 countries/regions, with China being the largest. The primary research institutions were Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Journal of Ethnopharmacology was the most studied journal and co‐cited journal. A total of 473 authors were included, among which Hongxin Wang had the highest number of publications and Zhang Wd had the highest total citation frequency. After analysis, the most common keywords are astragaloside IV, expression, and oxidative stress. Cardiovascular disease, cerebral ischemia, cancer, and kidney disease are current and developing research fields. Conclusion: This study used bibliometrics and visualization methods to analyze the research hotspots and trends of astragaloside IV. Karst areas are widespread in China and can be divided into southern karst and northern karst based on the geographical boundary of Qinling Mountains and Huaihe River. In northern karst regions, karst springs are the predominant landform. Previous studies on karst springs have predominantly focused on macroscopic perspectives, such as water chemistry characteristics, with less attention given to the microscopic characteristics of springs. Therefore, this study focused on the Jinan Baotu Spring area, representative of a typical northern karst region, and investigated the natural nanoparticles present in different aquifers at various depths from a microscopic point of view. Through the observation of nanoparticle tracking analyzer (NTA), numerous nanoparticles were identified in the groundwater samples. The particle size range of the particles contained in groundwater is mainly concentrated in the range of 150–500 nm, and the particle concentration is mainly concentrated in the range of 1.5–5.0 × 105 Particles/L. The microstructure, chemical composition, and element distribution of these nanoparticles were analyzed using TEM-EDS techniques. The results unveiled the presence of Ti-bearing nanoparticles in various groundwater layers, including both crystalline and amorphous states, as well as nanoparticles exhibiting the coexistence of crystal and amorphous structures. By comparing the measured lattice spacing with PDF cards, the crystalline Ti-bearing nanoparticles were identified as rutile, brookite, anatase, ilmenite, pseudorutile, and ulvospinel. Furthermore, the main components of the amorphous Ti-bearing nanoparticles predominantly consisted of Ti or a mixture of Ti and Fe. EDS analysis further indicated that the Ti-bearing nanoparticles carried additional metal elements, such as Zn, Ca, Mn, Mo, Cr, and Ni, suggesting their potential role as carriers of metal elements during groundwater transportation. This discovery provided new insights into the migration of metal elements in groundwater and underscores the capacity of nanoparticles to enhance the mobility of inorganic substances within the water environment. Notably, brookite was detected in three different areas, including the direct discharge area, indirect recharge area, and discharge area, which may indicate that some special natural nanoparticles could serve as natural mineral tracer particles in the process of groundwater migration. In order to improve the accuracy of gravity anomaly data processing, this study utilizes multi-scale surface fitting techniques (MSSF) to separate the Bouguer gravity field into residual gravity fields and regional gravity fields at different depths. By sequentially stripping away layers, the residual gravity anomalies of the target layer are obtained as the data basis for subsequent gravity interpretation. This study selects appropriate parameters and establishes different lithology forward modeling templates based on actual geological data in the study area. The method is verified to accurately separate gravity anomalies generated by different density bodies, with accurate anomaly locations, complete shapes, and clear boundaries. It can also serve as a quantitative template for rock properties and provide theoretical references for practical cases. Additionally, the method exhibits high noise resistance, resolution, and accuracy. The practical application of the method is validated through microgravity monitoring data in carbonate reservoirs in western China and time-shifted microgravity monitoring data in tight sandstone reservoirs. Guangxi, China, is one of the world's largest karst regions where potential toxic elements tend to accumulate, resulting in high soil background values. This study explores the ecological risk, elemental baseline values, and sources of potential toxic elements in karst regions, expanding the research to include 21 common elements. The significance of this research lies in its implications for the management of potential toxic element pollution, the formulation of environmental quality standards, and soil remediation in karst areas. In this study, 12,547 topsoil samples (0–20 cm) were collected in the study area. Pollution assessment and ecological risk evaluation of eight potential toxic elements (Zn, Ni, Cu, Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr, and As) were conducted using the geo-accumulation index method and potential ecological risk index method. Multivariate statistical analysis was applied to analyze the total content of 21 common elements (Zn, Ni, Cu, Pb, P, Cd, Hg, Co, Mn, Cr, V, I, S, As, pH, Se, N, CaO, Corg, Mo, and F). Additionally, the potential sources of 21 soil elements were preliminarily quantitatively analyzed using the principal component analysis-absolute principal component scores-multiple linear regression receptor model. The results showed that (1) Zn, Ni, Cu, Pb, Cd, Cr, V, and As were enriched in the research area and Ca, Cd, Mn, Mo, Hg, As, and Cu might have been influenced by human activities; (2) Cr, Pb, As, and Zn were generally lightly polluted, with Hg having a moderate potential ecological risk level; and (3) Ni and Zn have contributions of 37.99% and 35.07% from geological sources, agricultural fertilization, and pesticides. Mo, V, Cr, Se, Hg, and As exhibit contributions ranging from 39.44 to 59.22% originating from geological backgrounds and human activities. Corg, S, N, and P show contributions of 45.39% to 80.33% from surface vegetation. F, Co, Mn, and Pb have contributions ranging from 31.63 to 47.93% from acidic rocks in the soil parent material, mining activities, and transportation. Cd and CaO derive 31.67% and 40.23%, respectively, from soil parent material and industrial sources. I has 31.94% from geological background and human activities, and 31.95% from soil parent material and atmospheric sources. Cu has 30.56% from geological sources. Background: Ischemic stroke is a major cause of disability and death worldwide. A narrow therapeutic window profoundly constrained the utilization of alteplase. Objectives: To investigate therapeutic effects and safety of intravenous recombinant human prourokinase (rhPro-UK) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in the 4.5–6 h therapeutic time windows. Methods: We conducted a phase IIa, randomized, and open-label multicenter clinical trial. Between 4.5 and 6 h after the onset of AIS, patients were randomly administrated to receive intravenous rhPro-UK at a 50 mg or 35 mg dose. The primary endpoint was excellent functional outcome defined as modified Rankin scale (mRS) score of 1 or less at 90 days. The secondary outcome was the treatment response, which was based on an at least 4-point improvement from baseline National Institutes of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) score at 24 h after drug administration. Safety endpoints included death, symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH), and other serious adverse events. Results: We enrolled 80 patients in the 4.5–6 h therapeutic time windows at 17 medical centers in China from December 2016 to November 2017. A total of 39 patients were treated with 50 mg rhPro-UK, and 39 were treated with 35 mg rhPro-UK. Compared with the baseline, the NIHSS score at 24 h and days 7, 14, 30, and 90 was decreased significantly among patients treated with either rhPro-UK 50 mg or 35 mg. The mean reduction in the NIHSS from baseline to 90 days after the onset was 3.56 and 5.79 in the rhPro-UK 50 mg group and the rhPro-UK 35 mg group, respectively. The rates of functional independence at 90 days of rhPro-UK 50 mg and 35 mg were 61.54% and 69.23%, respectively (P = 0.475), and the proportion of patients with functional response to treatment at 24 h were 28.21% and 33.33% (P = 0.624). No sICH occurred in the two groups, and death occurred in only one patient in the rhPro-UK 50 mg group. There was no significant difference in mortality at 90 days and the rate of other serious adverse events between two groups. Conclusion: In the 4.5–6 h time window, more than 60% of patients at either dose of rhPro-UK (50 mg or 35 mg) achieved functional independence at 90 days without increased mortality and sICH risk. Thus, intravenous rhPro-UK was effective and safe for patients with AIS within 4.5–6 h after stroke onset. While no significant differences were identified between different dosages of rhPro-UK regarding clinical outcomes, it is a logical step to further test the safety and efficacy of the low dose of rhPro-UK in a well-powered phase III study. Karst desertification (KD) is a unique desert ecological phenomenon occurring in the karst region of Southwest China (KRSC). Studying the KD evolution process and distinguishing the influences of human activities and climate factors on KD are essential for restoring KD areas. This article is based on MODIS remote sensing data and ERA5-Land data. Additionally, multiple linear regression models, correlation analysis, and residual analysis are utilized to analyze the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of KD in the southwest region of China from 2000 to 2020. This study aims to differentiate the impacts of human activities and climate change on the desertification process in karst areas. (1) In the southwest region of China, the overall KD shows an intensifying trend at both ends of the study area and an ameliorating distribution pattern in the central region. In particular, Guizhou province, which is located in the center of the study area, demonstrated significant suppression in the KD process from 2000 to 2020. (2) In the southwest karst region, there are significant spatial differences in the correlation between the KD process and precipitation, temperature, and radiation. Temperature is significantly negatively correlated in most parts of Yunnan. (3) According to the residual analysis, approximately 89.62% of the karst areas in the southwest are influenced by climate, while 10.38% are influenced by human activities. Climate change has a relatively small impact on the ability to improve KD compared to the disruptive influence of human activities. Some human activities, such as afforestation, in which grassland and cultivated land are converted to forest, play a substantial role in inhibiting the KD process. Conversely, the rapid expansion of urban areas tends to exacerbate KD in adjacent regions. Therefore, this study of the evolution process of KD in Southwest China can provide a scientific basis for monitoring and controlling KD and provide theoretical support for coping with the challenges posed by KD to China's ecological environment. Determination of the optimal parameter values in numerical weather prediction (NWP) models has a significant impact on predictions. Here, we propose a knee point‐based multiobjective optimization (KMO) method to find an optimal solution of the NWP model parameters. We apply it to optimize the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model's summer precipitation and temperature simulations for the Greater Beijing area. The results showed that it required fewer than 125 samples (i.e., 25 times the number of dimensions of the parameter space) to obtain the WRF model's optimal parameter values. The optimal parameters determined by KMO outperform the default parameters in WRF simulations for summer precipitation and temperature prediction in the Greater Beijing area, across all periods (calibration, validation, and testing). Additionally, clear physical interpretations are provided to explain why the optimal parameters lead to improved precipitation and temperature forecasting. Overall, the proposed method is effective and efficient to improve NWP. Plain Language Summary: Numerical weather prediction (NWP) models are highly parameterized and have numerous parameters with uncertain values. The inherent uncertainty in these parameters has the potential to impact the precision of weather predictions. However, the parameter estimation of the NWP model is difficult because (a) there are many meteorological variables to tune, and every parameter value must ensure that the simulation of all meteorological variables is acceptable; (b) an NWP model run is computational expensive, and traditional parameter estimation methods usually require many model evaluations. Here, we propose a multiobjective optimization (i.e., knee point‐based multiobjective optimization [KMO]) method to find an optimal solution of the NWP model parameters (i.e., expensive multiobjective optimization problem) by performing only a few expensive model evaluations. We apply it to optimize the Weather Research and Forecasting model's summer precipitation and temperature simulations for the Greater Beijing Area in China. Numerical results showed that the simulation accuracy for precipitation and temperature were improved, across all periods (calibration, validation, and testing). Straw residual retention is an emerging and promoted practice in rain-fed northwest China, but its effect on wheat photosynthetic characteristics, the utilization of water and nitrogen, and reactive nitrogen losses is poorly understood. A two-year consecutive field experiment was conducted to investigate the impacts of residual incorporation into soil and nitrogen application on wheat nitrogen and water utilization, yield and nitrogen losses during 2018–2020. The split-plot design of two tillage systems [conventional tillage (CT), and straw residue incorporated into soil (SR)] and three nitrogen rates [0 kg ha−1 (N0), 144 kg ha−1 (N144), 180 kg ha−1 (N180)] was implemented. Our results demonstrated that compared to CT, SR significantly influenced several key metrics. Compared with CT, SR increased the wheat photosynthetic rate (Pn), transpiration rate (Tr), leaf area index (LAI), leaf total chlorophyll (Chl-total), glutamine synthetase (GS) and nitrate reductase (NR) by an average of 5.38%, 12.75%, 8.21%, 5.79%, 16.21% and 20.08%, respectively (p < 0.05). In addition, SR increased the wheat grain yield and nitrogen uptake accumulation (NUA), evapotranspiration (ET), precipitation storage efficiency (PSE), and mineral nitrogen residual after harvest (except for SR-N180 in 2019–2020), but decreased the apparent nitrogen recovery when compared with CT. However, there was an insignificant difference in the ammonia (NH3) volatilization and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions of SR and CT. With an increase in the N-fertilization rate, the Pn and Tr, NH3 volatilization, N2O emission, mineral nitrogen residual (except for SR-N180 in 2019–2020), LAI, Chl-total (except for SR-N180 and CT-N180 in 2018–2019), GS, NR, grain yield, WUE, and NUA increased significantly; however, the ET, PSE, apparent nitrogen recovery (ANR), and nitrogen harvest index (NHI) decreased significantly. Furthermore, the differences between N144 and N180 in terms of the photosynthetic characteristics of wheat, the utilization of water and nitrogen, and yield were not significant. Overall, straw retention with N144 could be recommended as a resource-saving and environment-friendly management practice in a rain-fed winter wheat–fallow cropping system in northwest China. Background: Urbanization greatly affects the natural and social environment of human existence and may have a multifactoral impact on parasitic diseases. Schistosomiasis, a common parasitic disease transmitted by the snail Oncomelania hupensis, is mainly found in areas with population aggregations along rivers and lakes where snails live. Previous studies have suggested that factors related to urbanization may influence the infection risk of schistosomiasis, but this association remains unclear. This study aimed to analyse the effect of urbanization on schistosomiasis infection risk from a spatial and temporal perspective in the endemic areas along the Yangtze River Basin in China. Methods: County-level schistosomiasis surveillance data and natural environmental factor data covering the whole Anhui Province were collected. The urbanization level was characterized based on night-time light data from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Operational Linescan System (DMSP-OLS) and the National Polar-Orbiting Partnership's Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (NPP-VIIRS). The geographically and temporally weighted regression model (GTWR) was used to quantify the influence of urbanization on schistosomiasis infection risk with the other potential risk factors controlled. The regression coefficient of urbanization was tested for significance (α = 0.05), and the influence of urbanization on schistosomiasis infection risk was analysed over time and across space based on significant regression coefficients. Variables studied included climate, soil, vegetation, hydrology and topography. Results: The mean regression coefficient for urbanization (0.167) is second only to the leached soil area (0.300), which shows that the urbanization is the most important influence factors for schistosomiasis infection risk besides leached soil area. The other important variables are distance to the nearest water source (0.165), mean minimum temperature (0.130), broadleaf forest area (0.105), amount of precipitation (0.073), surface temperature (0.066), soil bulk density (0.037) and grassland area (0.031). The influence of urbanization on schistosomiasis infection risk showed a decreasing trend year by year. During the study period, the significant coefficient of urbanization level increased from − 0.205 to − 0.131. Conclusions: The influence of urbanization on schistosomiasis infection has spatio-temporal heterogeneous. The urbanization does reduce the risk of schistosomiasis infection to some extend, but the strength of this influence decreases with increasing urbanization. Additionally, the effect of urbanization on schistosomiasis infection risk was greater than previous reported natural environmental factors. This study provides scientific basis for understanding the influence of urbanization on schistosomiasis, and also provides the feasible research methods for other similar studies to answer the issue about the impact of urbanization on disease risk. The compression release of pore water in clayey aquitards has a significant impact on groundwater quality. Iron is an active variable element that mediates biochemical reactions in groundwater systems, but its transformation mechanisms in clayey aquitards remain unclear. The sediment and pore water samples from the shallow clayey aquitard (thickness = ~20 m) in the Chen Lake area of China were collected in three boreholes. The spatial distribution and influencing factors of Fe occurrence in the aquitard were revealed using hierarchical extraction, statistical analysis, and simulation calculations. The results indicate that the background value of alluvial–lacustrine sediments primarily affects the Fe concentration of clayey sediments. The dissimilatory reduction in free Fe oxide was the main source of Fe ions in pore water, resulting in a major percentage of Fe2+ in the total Fe concentration (0.07−5.91 mg/L). The abundant organic matter in organic-rich clay promoted a dissimilatory reduction in Fe (III) oxides, while the Fe concentrations of sediment and pore water were lower in the sand-rich stratum because of its weak adsorption capacity. The impact of human reclamation activities on the aquitard was mainly concentrated in the shallow layer ( > − 3   m ), resulting in water drainage and O2 and CO2 input, which induced the crystallization of poorly crystalline Fe oxides. The input of reactive organic matter from reclaimed crops promoted the dissimilatory reduction in Fe oxides and the enrichment of Fe in deep pore water. The copious Fe2+ in deep stratum pore water tended to interact with CO32− and S2− to form coprecipitation with Fe (II). The concentrations of As, Cr, Sr, Zn, and Mn in pore water followed a similar variation trend to the Fe ion concentration, and their release could be attributed to the reduction dissolution of sediment Fe (III) oxides. Subsurface karst features are significantly developed in Guangxi Province, China. This area mainly contains fractured subsurface rock, abundant karst channels, and widely distributed underground fissure networks. Such adverse geological conditions could potentially create hydrogeological hazards such as collapses, water inrush, and mud inrush during infrastructure construction. The Hejing limestone mine is an opencast mine in Pingnan County, Guangxi, that produces cement. Mining activities have altered the seepage fields in this area, causing large amounts of groundwater to flood into the mining pit; this has caused many ground collapses while severely reducing limestone production. More than 24 km of surface electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) profiles have been previously recorded in the region to identify potential karst positions and explore groundwater inrush paths. In this study. we employed surface and cross-borehole ERT surveys to delineate specific groundwater inrush paths on the eastern side of the mine and characterise karst distribution in the study area. Resistivity imaging results revealed some low-resistivity anomaly distributions and provided reliable geological information about the distribution of subsurface karst for future grouting work. As one of the fruits widely planted in China, the quality of sweet cherries is affected by various factors. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of geographical indication (GI) sweet cherries grown in China and to analyze the effects of cultivars, climate types, and soil conditions on their quality traits. Twenty-two parameters of nine cherry samples and their planted soil properties were analyzed through a descriptive analysis and correlation analysis. There were significant differences in the physiochemical traits. Notable positive correlations between the fruit weight and its size, rate of edibility, and flavonoid content were shown. The Univariate-General Line Model exhibited that weight, soluble solids content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), and total phenolic content (TPC) were mainly influenced by both the cultivar and climate type, while only the cultivar affected the maturity index (MI). Soil condition parameters were significantly different for each sample. Based on the established linear regression models, it was found that soil P had a positive impact on SSC and TA, but a negative effect on TPC (p < 0.05). Environmental nanoparticles are known to be present in various aquatic environments, exerting significant influences on water quality, particularly in water distribution systems. However, there has been a notable dearth of research on the presence and impact of environmental nanoparticles in mineral water, a unique water resource. In this study, we employed Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (NTA) and conducted High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) to address this research gap. This groundbreaking study represents the first comprehensive exploration of environmental nanoparticles within natural mineral water from Zibo City, Shandong Province, China. The results of the NTA showed that the concentration of the particles was 5.5 × 105 particles/mL and the peak diameter of the size distribution was 180 nm. The HRTEM showed that the nanoparticles were granular, pinniform, rodlike, and flakey in shape, and some of the nanoparticles existed in aggregation. The energy-dispersive spectrometry results showed that most of the nanoparticles contained O, Mg, Ca, Si, Fe, Ti, and P, and some of them also contained F, V, S, and Mn. When combined with the characteristics of the selected area electron diffraction pattern, the nanoparticles were confirmed to be Ca-bearing nanoparticles, attapulgite nanorods, MnO2 nanosheets, and TiO2 nanoparticles. These findings shed light on a novel manifestation of elemental compositions in mineral water. Furthermore, considering the chemical and physical attributes of both the nanoparticles and mineral water, it is highly plausible that these environmental nanoparticles result from the weathering of minerals. The presence of these nanoparticles within mineral water offers a unique opportunity to advance our comprehension of nanoparticle behavior across diverse systems. Avian reovirus (ARV) infections, characterized by severe arthritis, tenosynovitis, pericarditis, and poor weight gain, have become increasingly serious in recent years. The economic impact is significant as it causes growth inhibition and immunosuppression. Some commercial poultry in China have been widely vaccinated with available ARV vaccines; however, infections continue to occur even after vaccination. This study aimed to isolate a novel variant, ARV-SD19/11103, from the joint tissues of infected broiler chickens vaccinated with ARV vaccines in Shandong Province. Genetic evolution analysis of the major protective antigen σC gene in ARVs showed that ARV-SD19/11103 was located in the genotype cluster I but not in the same sub-cluster as the S1133 vaccine strain. The amino acid sequence similarity between SD19/11103 and vaccine strains S1133, 1733, and 2408 was <80%. After analyzing the amino acid sequences of the σC protein, 33 amino acid differences were found between the new variant isolate and the vaccine strains. This novel variant showed obvious pathogenicity in specific pathogen-free chicken embryos and chicks and could cause serious disease in chickens vaccinated with commercially available ARV vaccines. Cross-neutralization experiments further demonstrated a significant antigenic difference between the novel variant and genotype cluster I ARV strains. The novel variant strain isolated in this study provides an important theoretical basis for understanding the prevalence and genetic evolutionary characteristics of ARV variant strains in our country. In order to promote the improvement of the rural living environment, the treatment of rural domestic sewage has attracted much attention in China. Meanwhile, the rural regions' sewage discharge standards are becoming increasingly stringent. However, the standard compliance rate of total phosphorus (TP) is very low, and TP has become the main limiting pollutant for the water pollutants discharge standards of rural domestic sewage treatment facilities. In this study, waste eggshell (E) was employed as a calcium source, and waste peanut shell (C) was employed as a carbon source to prepare calcium-modified biochar adsorbent materials (E-C). The resulting E-C adsorbent materials demonstrated efficient phosphate (P) adsorption from aqueous solutions over the initial pH range of 6–9 and had adsorption selectivity. At an eggshell and peanut shell mass ratio of 1:1 and a pyrolysis temperature of 800 °C, the experimental maximum adsorption capacity was 191.1 mg/g. The pseudo second-order model and Langmuir model were best at describing the adsorption process. The dominant sorption mechanism for P is that Ca(OH)2 is loaded on biochar with P to form Ca5(PO4)3OH precipitate. E-C was found to be very effective for the treatment of rural domestic sewage. The removal rate of TP in rural domestic sewage was 91–95.9%. After adsorption treatment, the discharge of TP in rural sewage met the second-grade (TP < 3 mg/L) and even first-grade (TP < 2 mg/L). Simple Summary: Phytoplasma are wall-less phytopathogens that invade hundreds of plant species, causing symptoms, including witches' broom, phyllody, and leaf yellowing. The difficulty in phytoplasma artificial cultivation makes research on the interactions of phytoplasma–plant–vector insects lag behind the research on interactions of other phytopathogen–plant–vector insects. The spread of phytoplasma heavily relies on piercing–sucking insects. In this study, the feeding behavior of the leafhopper Hishimonus hamatus Kuoh fed on healthy Chinese jujube leaves and on jujube witches' broom (JWB) leaves was investigated to find whether JWB infection changed the feeding behavior or preference of H. hamatus. Then, we performed a metabolomic analysis to inspect the metabolite composition of healthy and JWB-infected jujube leaves and tried to explain why the leafhopper tended to feed on JWB-infected leaves. We found that more small-molecular carbohydrates, free amino acids, and free fatty acids and less lignans, coumarins and triterpenoids were accumulated in JWB-infected leaves, which might be related to more vector leafhopper feeding with a higher frequency. Hishimonus hamatus Kuoh is a leafhopper species native to China that feeds on Chinese jujube leaves. This leafhopper species has been verified to transmit jujube witches' broom (JWB) disease, caused by phytoplasma, a fatal plant pathogen, which belongs to the phytoplasma subgroup 16SrV-B. The transmission of JWB phytoplasma largely relies on the feeding behavior of piercing–sucking leafhoppers. However, the specific mechanisms behind how and why the infection of JWB influences the feeding behavior of these leafhoppers are not fully understood. To address this, a study was conducted to compare the feeding patterns of H. hamatus when feeding JWB-infested jujube leaves to healthy leaves using the electrical penetration graph (EPG) technique. Then, a widely targeted metabolome analysis was performed to identify differences in the metabolite composition of JWB-infected jujube leaves and that of healthy jujube leaves. The results of EPG analyses revealed that when feeding on JWB-infected jujube leaves, H. hamatus exhibited an increased frequency of phloem ingestion and spent longer in the phloem feeding phase compared to when feeding on healthy leaves. In addition, the results of metabolomic analyses showed that JWB-infected leaves accumulated higher levels of small-molecular carbohydrates, free amino acids, and free fatty acids, as well as lower levels of lignans, coumarins and triterpenoids compared to healthy leaves. The above results indicated that the H. hamatus preferentially fed on the phloem of infected leaves, which seems to be linked to the transmission of the JWB phytoplasma. Background: Evidence has emerged that altered ventricular electrocardiogram profiles are associated with dementia, but the neuropathological mechanisms underlying their associations are poorly understood. Objective: To investigate the interrelationships of ventricular electrocardiogram profiles with dementia and plasma Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers among older adults. Methods: This population-based cross-sectional study included 5,153 participants (age ≥65 years; 57.3% women) living in rural communities in China; of these, 1,281 had data on plasma amyloid-β (Aβ)40, Aβ42, total-tau, and neurofilament light chain (NfL) protein. The QT, QTc, JT, JTc, QRS intervals, and QRS axis were derived from the 10-second electrocardiogram recording. The DSM-IV criteria were followed for clinical diagnosis of dementia, the NIA-AA criteria for AD, and the NINDS-AIREN criteria for vascular dementia (VaD). Data were analyzed using general linear models, multinomial logistic models, and restricted cubic splines. Results: Of the 5,153 participants, 299 (5.8%) were diagnosed with dementia, including 194 with AD and 94 with VaD. Prolonged QT, QTc, JT, and JTc intervals were significantly associated with all-cause dementia, AD, and VaD (p < 0.05). Left QRS axis deviation was significantly associated with all-cause dementia and VaD (p < 0.01). In the subsample of plasma biomarkers (n = 1,281), prolonged QT, JT, and JTc intervals were significantly associated with a lower Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio and higher plasma NfL concentrations (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Alterations in ventricular repolarization and depolarization are independently associated with all-cause dementia, AD, VaD, and AD plasma biomarkers in older adults (age ≥65 years). The implementation of the "Returning Farmland to Forest" project in the loess hilly region of China has led to the establishment of large-scale economic forests, which have become the dominant industry driving local economic development. However, the region faces challenges such as drought, water shortages, and an uneven distribution of precipitation, which have a severe impact on the growth of economic forests, including jujube trees. Water stress significantly reduces yield and efficiency, posing a threat to the sustainable and healthy development of jujube ecological and economic forests. Therefore, this study aimed to address these issues by implementing straw mulching (SM) and jujube branch mulching (BM) measures in the mountainous jujube economic forests. Through long-term monitoring and statistical analysis, the study investigated the effects of different mulching treatments on soil moisture and soil temperature. The research findings reveal that both SM and BM significantly increased soil moisture in the 0–280 cm soil layer during the jujube growing season (p < 0.05). In both normal precipitation (2014) and drought (2015) years, SM increased average soil moisture content by 5.10% and 4.60%, respectively, compared to the uncovered treatment (CK). SM also had a positive impact on the soil moisture content in each layer of the soil profile. However, BM only increased soil moisture content in the 40–100 cm and 220–280 cm soil layers. Additionally, SM and BM reduced the variation of soil moisture, with SM showing a more significant effect in regulating soil moisture and achieving more stable moisture levels. During the jujube growing seasons in 2014 and 2015, SM and BM decreased soil temperature in the 0–10 cm soil layer. The temperature difference compared to CK decreased with increasing soil depth. SM had an overcooling effect, while BM reduced the temperature before the fruit expansion period and maintained warmth afterward. Both SM and BM also reduced the daily range and variation range of soil temperature, with SM having a more pronounced effect. The temperature of the 0–20 cm soil layer exhibited the strongest correlation with air temperature, and SM showed the weakest response. In conclusion, adopting straw mulching and jujube branch mulching in rain-fed jujube orchards in the loess hilly region not only saves materials and reduces costs but also contributes to water retention and temperature regulation. Straw mulching, in particular, plays a more significant role in moisture retention and temperature regulation and is advantageous for soil management in rain-fed jujube orchards. Background: Previous studies have shown that type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) can cause sarcopenia; however, these conditions may have a bidirectional association. This study aimed to explore the longitudinal association between possible sarcopenia and new-onset T2DM. Methods: We conducted a population-based cohort study using nationally representative data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). This study included participants aged ≥ 60 years who were free of diabetes during the baseline survey of CHARLS (2011 to 2012) and were followed up until 2018. Possible sarcopenia status was defined according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 criteria. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to evaluate the effect of possible sarcopenia on new-onset T2DM. Results: In total, 3,707 individuals were enrolled in this study, with a median age of 66 years; the prevalence of possible sarcopenia was 45.1%. During the 7-year follow-up, 575 cases (15.5%) of incident diabetes were identified. Participants with possible sarcopenia were more likely to have new-onset T2DM than those without possible sarcopenia (hazard ratio: 1.27, 95% confidence interval: 1.07–1.50; p = 0.006). In subgroup analysis, we found a significant association between possible sarcopenia and T2DM in individuals aged < 75 years or with a BMI < 24 kg/m². However, this association was not significant in individuals aged ≥ 75 years or with a BMI ≥ 24 kg/m². Conclusions: Possible sarcopenia is associated with an increased risk of new-onset T2DM in older adults, especially in individuals who are not overweight and aged 75 years or younger. Background: Ulmus mianzhuensis is an endemic tree species in China with high ornamental and economic value. Currently, little is known regarding its genomic architecture, phylogenetic position, or adaptive evolution. Here, we sequenced the complete chloroplast genome (cp genome) of U. mianzhuensis and further compared the variations in gene organization and structure within Ulmus species to define their genomic evolution, then reconstructed the phylogenomic relationship of 31 related Ulmus species to explore the systematic position of U. mianzhuensis and the utility of cp genome for resolving phylogenetics among Ulmus species. Results: Our results revealed that all the Ulmus species exhibited a typical quadripartite structure, with a large single copy (LSC) region of 87,170 − 88,408 bp, a small single copy (SSC) region of 18,650 − 19,038 bp and an inverted repeat (IR) region of 26,288 − 26,546 bp. Within Ulmus species, gene structure and content of cp genomes were highly conserved, although slight variations were found in the boundary of SC/IR regions. Moreover, genome-wide sliding window analysis uncovered the variability of ndhC-trnV-UAC, ndhF-rpl32, and psbI-trnS-GCU were higher among 31 Ulmus that may be useful for the population genetics and potential DNA barcodes. Two genes (rps15 and atpF) were further detected under a positive selection of Ulmus species. Comparative phylogenetic analysis based on the cp genome and protein-coding genes revealed consistent topology that U. mianzhuensis is a sister group to U. parvifolia (sect. Microptelea) with a relatively low-level nucleotide variation of the cp genome. Additionally, our analyses also found that the traditional taxonomic system of five sections in Ulmus is not supported by the current phylogenomic topology with a nested evolutionary relationship between sections. Conclusions: Features of the cp genome length, GC content, organization, and gene order were highly conserved within Ulmus. Furthermore, molecular evidence from the low variation of the cp genome suggested that U. mianzhuensis should be merged into U. parvifolia and regarded as a subspecies of U. parvifolia. Background: Few community-based studies have examined occurrence and progression of subjective cognitive decline (SCD). Objective: To investigate prevalence and progression of SCD among rural-dwelling Chinese elderly people. Methods: This cohort study included 2,488 cognitively unimpaired adults (age≥65 years) who were examined at baseline (2014-2015) and followed in 2018. Demographic, epidemiological, clinical, and neuropsychological data were collected via in-person interviews and clinical examinations following a structured questionnaire. At baseline, SCD was assessed using the self-rated Ascertain Dementia 8-item Questionnaire. At follow-up, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VaD) were clinically diagnosed following the international criteria. Data were analyzed using logistic regression models. Results: The prevalence of SCD was 40.07%. SCD at baseline was associated with the multivariable-adjusted odds ratio (OR) of 1.51 (95% confidence interval 1.10–2.07) for incident cognitive impairment, no dementia (CIND) and 3.11 (1.64–5.93) for incident AD. Among people with SCD at baseline, the multivariable-adjusted OR of incident CIND was 0.55(0.32–0.96) for hyperlipidemia; the multivariable-adjusted OR of incident AD was 1.21 (1.14–1.30) for older age, 0.32 (0.12–0.88) for high education, 2.60 (1.11–6.08) for carrying APOEɛ4 allele, and 0.34 (0.13–0.86) for high social support, whereas the multivariable-adjusted OR of incident VaD was 6.30 (1.71–23.18) for obesity. Conclusion: SCD affects over 40% of rural-dwelling cognitively unimpaired older adults in China. SCD is associated with accelerated progression to CIND and AD. Older age, lack of school education, APOEɛ4 allele, and low social support are associated with an increased risk of progression from SCD to AD, whereas obesity is related to accelerated progression to VaD. Background: Microvascular dysfunction (MVD) may contribute to cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease, but evidence is limited. Objective: To investigate the association of composite and organ-specific MVD burden with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and cognition among rural-dwelling Chinese older adults. Methods: In this population-based cross-sectional study, we assessed MVD makers using optical coherence tomographic angiography for retinal microvasculature features, brain magnetic resonance imaging scans for cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD), and serum biomarkers for MVD. A composite MVD score was generated from the aforementioned organ-specific parameters. We used a neuropsychological test battery to assess memory, verbal fluency, attention, executive function, and global cognitive function. MCI, amnestic MCI (aMCI), and non-amnestic MCI (naMCI) were diagnosed following the Petersen's criteria. Data was analyzed with the linear and logistic regression models. Results: Of the 274 dementia-free participants (age≥65 years), 56 were diagnosed with MCI, including 47 with aMCI and 9 with naMCI. A composite MVD score was statistically significantly associated with an odds ratio (OR) of 2.70 (95% confidence interval 1.12–6.53) for MCI and β-coefficient of –0.29 (–0.48, –0.10) for global cognitive score after adjustment for socio-demographics, lifestyle factors, APOE genotype, the Geriatric Depression Scale score, serum inflammatory biomarkers, and cardiovascular comorbidity. A composite score of retinal microvascular morphology was associated with a multivariable-adjusted OR of 1.72 (1.09–2.73) for MCI and multivariable-adjusted β-coefficient of –0.11 (–0.22, –0.01) for global cognitive score. A composite CSVD score was associated with a lower global cognitive score (β= –0.10; –0.17, –0.02). In this study, based on X reservoir conditions from Dagang Oilfield, China (temperature: 104 °C, salinity: 26376 mg/L), from the perspective of reducing interfacial tension and emulsification performance, IAPES (isododecyl alcohol polyoxyethylene ether sulfonate) with high temperature and high salt resistance was selected and its performance was evaluated. Finally, physical simulation experiments were conducted to form an in situ viscosity-increasing emulsion to enhance oil displacement efficiency. The experimental results show that when the concentration of IAPES is 0.3 wt%, the ability to reduce the interfacial tension of oil and water is significant and it has good antiaging stability. In addition, the lower the shear rate, the higher the water content, and the worse the emulsion stability. Finally, physical simulation experiments show that IAPES can increase the recovery rate by at least 28% in a larger permeability range. Background: The present study aimed to investigate the function of miR‐3529‐3p in lung adenocarcinoma and MnO2‐SiO2‐APTES (MSA) as a promising multifunctional delivery agent for lung adenocarcinoma therapy. Methods: Expression levels of miR‐3529‐3p were evaluated in lung carcinoma cells and tissues by qRT‐PCR. The effects of miR‐3529‐3p on apoptosis, proliferation, metastasis and neovascularization were assessed by CCK‐8, FACS, transwell and wound healing assays, tube formation and xenografts experiments. Luciferase reporter assays, western blot, qRT‐PCR and mitochondrial complex assay were used to determine the targeting relationship between miR‐3529‐3p and hypoxia‐inducible gene domain family member 1A (HIGD1A). MSA was fabricated using MnO2 nanoflowers, and its heating curves, temperature curves, IC50, and delivery efficiency were examined. The hypoxia and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was investigated by nitro reductase probing, DCFH‐DA staining and FACS. Results: MiR‐3529‐3p expression was reduced in lung carcinoma tissues and cells. Transfection of miR‐3529‐3p could promote apoptosis and suppress cell proliferation, migration and angiogenesis. As a target of miR‐3529‐3p, HIGD1A expression was downregulated, through which miR‐3529‐3p could disrupt the activities of complexes III and IV of the respiratory chain. The multifunctional nanoparticle MSA could not only efficiently deliver miR‐3529‐3p into cells, but also enhance the antitumor function of miR‐3529‐3p. The underlying mechanism may be that MSA alleviates hypoxia and has synergistic effects in cellular ROS promotion with miR‐3529‐3p. Conclusions: Our results establish the antioncogenic role of miR‐3529‐3p, and demonstrate that miR‐3529‐3p delivered by MSA has enhanced tumor suppressive effects, probably through elevating ROS production and thermogenesis. Background: Systemic immune inflammation has been investigated as a prognostic marker of different diseases. This study is designed to assess the association of systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) with long-term mortality of stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) patients. Methods: Patients aged ≥ 18 years with SAP were selected from the Nanjing Stroke Registry Program in China. We retrospectively evaluated systemic immune-inflammation response with SII and pneumonia severity with the pneumonia severity index and the confusion, uremia, elevated respiratory rate, hypotension, and aged 65 years or older score. To explore the correlation between SII and mortality in SAP patients, multivariable Cox regressions and competing risk regressions were conducted. Mediation analysis was also performed to assess the role of pneumonia severity. Results: Among 611 patients in the SAP population, death occurred in 164 patients (26.8%) during the median follow-up of 3.0 (1.2– 4.6) years. In multivariate analysis, higher SII scores could predict increased mortality in patients with SAP (adjusted hazard ratio 2.061; 95% confidence interval, 1.256– 3.383; P = 0.004), and the association was mediated by pneumonia severity. Moreover, adding SII to traditional models improved their predictive ability for mortality. Conclusion: Our study displayed that SII was characterized in SAP patients with different prognoses. Ammannia auriculata Willd. (eared redstem) has become one of the most troublesome weeds in paddy rice in China. Resistance to bensulfuron-methyl (BSM) has spread extensively in this species. Greenhouse and field experiments were conducted to determine how the eared redstem biotype and density affect competition against rice. In the greenhouse experiment, five treatments were tested: a BSM-susceptible biotype at low density (58 plants m−2, SL), a BSM-susceptible biotype at high density (288 plants m−2, SH), a BSM-resistant biotype at low density (RL), a BSM-resistant biotype at high density (RH), and a control without eared redstem (CK). Eared redstem grew slowly until 15 days after sowing (DAS); however, growth accelerated after 20 DAS, and the eared redstem plants were taller than the rice from 55 DAS on. The SH and RH treatments were associated with greater intraspecific competition: eared redstem plants in the SH and RH treatments had fewer branches, fewer capsules, and less shoot dry weight per individual plant relative to the SL and RL treatments. The SH and RH treatments also caused greater reductions in the rice yield. The dry weight of rice at 141 DAS was reduced by 73% in the SL treatment, 98% in the SH treatment, 51% in the RL treatment, and 82% in the RH treatment, all relative to the CK. At 141 DAS, BSM-resistant plants were smaller than BSM-susceptible plants, suggesting a fitness cost of herbicide resistance in the absence of a herbicide. In the field study, eared redstem densities as low as 5 plants m−2 reduced the rice yield by 22%. A density of 50 eared redstem plants m−2 reduced the rice yield by 70%. Overall, these findings demonstrate that eared redstem is a highly aggressive weed species and threatens the rice yield even at a low density. However, the findings also demonstrate that BSM-resistant populations are less competitive. There is an urgent need to develop integrated management programs for this aggressive weed, which may include tactics to shift competitive dynamics in favor of rice. Open in new tab Download slide OBJECTIVES Our goal was to evaluate the risk-adjusted effects of operative and non-operative repair on long-term outcomes in patients with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (CCTGA/LVOTO). METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 391 patients with CCTGA/LVOTO from 2001 to 2020 (operative group, 282; non-operative group, 109) in 3 centres in China. The operative group included 73 patients who underwent anatomical repair and 209 patients who underwent non-anatomical repair. The median follow-up time was 8.5 years. The inverse probability of treatment weighted-adjusted Cox regression and a Kaplan–Meier analysis were used to evaluate long-term outcomes. RESULTS Operative repair did not reduce the hazard ratio (HR) of death, tricuspid regurgitation or New York Heart Association functional class III/IV, but a significantly increased HR was observed for pulmonary valve regurgitation [HR, 2.84; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.10–7.33; P  = 0.031]. Compared with that in the non-operative group, anatomical repair resulted in significantly increased HRs for death (HR, 2.94; 95% CI, 1.10–7.87; P  = 0.032) and pulmonary valve regurgitation (HR, 9.71; 95% CI, 3.66–25.77; P  < 0.001). Subgroup analysis showed that in patients with CCTGA/LVOTO with moderate or worse tricuspid regurgitation (≥ moderate), anatomical repair significantly reduced the HR of death. An inverse probability of treatment weighting-adjusted Kaplan–Meier analysis showed that the survival rates at 5 and 10 days postoperatively were 88.2 ± 4.0% and 79.0 ± 7.9%, respectively, in the anatomical repair group; these rates were significantly lower than the rates in the non-operative group (95.4 ± 2.0% and 91.8 ± 2.8%; P  = 0.032). CONCLUSIONS For patients with CCTGA/LVOTO, operative repair does not provide superior long-term outcomes, and anatomical repair results in a higher incidence of death. To study the influencing factors of surface subsidence by the backfilling of a mined-out area on thick and loose loess layers, a mechanical model on synergic deformation and surface subsidence is constructed taking the case of a sedimentary bauxite mine in China's Shanxi province as an example. Backfill state is classified based on the position of the protective roof and the backfill body. The influence of different filling ratios, the thickness of overlying loess, and the stope span on surface subsidence are quantitatively analyzed. The results reveal that: (1) When the thickness of the overlying loess Hg and the stope span s are constant, surface subsidence ωmax is negatively correlated with the filling ratio η. When η reaches the state III inflection point, the amplitude of surface subsidence ωmax declines sharply and eventually tends to be stable. (2) When the filling ratio η and stope span s are constant, surface subsidence ωmax is negatively correlated with the thickness of the overlying loess Hg, and the growth ratio decreases continuously. (3) When η and Hg are constant, surface subsidence ωmax is positively correlated with s, and the growth ratio increases continuously. Chemical potassium (K) fertilizer plays a crucial role in improving crop productivity, yet its production and application also result in environmental issues including greenhouse gas emission and atmospheric pollution emissions. In addition, the abandon or open burning of crop straw not only causes the wasting of resource, but also creates environmental problems. On-present studies recognize the importance of the substitution of straw resource utilization for chemical K fertilizer, yet whether such action can effectively mitigate the emissions of greenhouse gas and pollutants remains unclear. In this study, we examine the effects of substituting straw for chemical K fertilizer on the emissions of greenhouse gas and pollutants and the associated direct and damage cost implications in China at the provincial level. Results showed that the useable straw contributed 2750 Gg of K from 2000 to 2009 and 3567 Gg from 2010 to 2017, equaling 121% and 57.3% of chemical K fertilizer, respectively. Chemical K fertilizer substitution with straw can also reduce annual emissions of greenhouse gases, ammonia, nitrogen oxide, and fine particulate matter by 664 Gg, 18.5 Gg, 10.7 Gg, and 1.48 Gg, respectively. The average abatement cost reached 4790 million USD during 2000–2009 and 3898 million USD during 2010–2017, respectively. And the mitigation potential of the emissions of greenhouse gas and pollutants and average abatement cost showed a large spatial heterogeneity at the provincial level. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) for infection in patients with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)–associated vasculitis (AAV). Methods: Newly onset patients with AAV in China were included, and their laboratory tests and disease activity were analyzed. Based on infection, patients were divided into the infection group (A-I) and the non-infection group (A-NI). Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to investigate variables that are independently associated with infection. Results: In total, 418 patients were enrolled. Significantly higher white blood cell count (WBC, p < 0.001), neutrophils (p < 0.001), NLR (p < 0.001), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (p < 0.001), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR, p < 0.001), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR, p = 0.032), C-reactive protein (CRP, p < 0.001), procalcitonin (PCT, p < 0.001), and Birmingham vasculitis activity score (BVAS, p = 0.005) were observed in the A-I group than in the A-NI group. It was detected that NLR (ρ = 0.273, p < 0.001), MLR (ρ = 0.153, p = 0.011), ESR (ρ = 0.143, p = 0.020), and PCT (ρ = 0.391, p < 0.001) were positively correlated with BVAS. Furthermore, NLR was not only an independent predictor of infection (adjusted OR: 1.144, 95% CI: 1.059–1.236, p = 0.001), but with the largest area under ROC curve, of which value was 0.750. Notably, the optimal cut-off value of NLR for infection was 6.01, with sensitivity of 70.07% and specificity of 71.68%. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that in addition to WBC, CRP, ESR, and PCT, NLR should also be used as a beneficial inflammatory indicator to differentiate infection in newly diagnosed AAV. Fungal communities related to invasive plants may change with an elevational gradient, which may affect the performance and invasiveness of invasive plants. Our recent study revealed that root arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi colonization rate of invasive plant Galinsoga quadriradiata decreased with elevation. However, it is unclear whether it is caused by the changes in the fungal community along elevation. To address this issue, we used high-throughput sequencing techniques, functional groupings and linear statistics to examine how fungal communities in the rhizosphere and roots of G. quadriradiata are changed across the elevation in Qinling and Bashan Mountains, China. Our results revealed that species diversity and composition of the rhizosphere and root fungal communities changed along the elevation. The Shannon–Wiener diversity index in the rhizosphere and roots increased and decreased with elevation, respectively. In contrast, the relative abundance of pathotroph in the rhizosphere decreased while it increased in the roots with elevation. These suggest that, when the invasive plant colonizes into high altitudes, it may not suffer from limited rhizosphere fungal symbionts, but rather the ability of the plant to create and maintain these associations decreases. The invader tends to accumulate more pathogenic fungi in the roots, while the dependence on symbiotic fungi is reduced during expansion into higher elevations. These results highlight that the interactions between invasive plants and fungal community substantially change along elevation, and that belowground interactions may be key in our understanding of how invasive plants derive success in stressful, high-elevation environments. In coastal cities, a large amount of cold energy is released into the nearby seawater during the process of regasification of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the receiving terminal, and meanwhile, a large amount of exported and/or imported foods need to be frozen by bulk cold energy near the sea. In this paper, a new multistage cold energy recovery/utilization system is investigated to link the LNG cold energy directly to supply the coastal cold store. This design uses a realistic case in Ningbo LNG receiving station in China, and for the very first time considers how to utilize the LNG cold energy in an efficient manner regarding the technical, economic, and environmental benefits. A three‐stage LNG cold energy utilization system is designed and evaluated by considering different temperatures, pressures, and heat exchange parameters. Compared to conventional electric‐driven cold stores, the proposed multistage cold energy recovery/utilization system has a much cheaper capital cost during the initial investment stage, and also avoids the utility power consumption during the daily operation period. In the case study, from Ningbo LNG receiving station to a 10 MW class cold store, the proposed multienergy system can save the energy of 20.05 kilotons of standard coal, and the carbon emission reduction is up to 1.49 × 108 kg per year. The sowing date and density are considered to be the main factors affecting crop yield. The determination of the sowing date and sowing density, however, is fraught with uncertainty due to the influence of climatic conditions, topography, variety and other factors. Therefore, it is necessary to find a comprehensive consideration of these factors to guide the production of winter rapeseed. A reliable crop model could be a crucial tool to investigate the response of rapeseed growth to changes in the sowing date and density. At present, few studies related to rapeseed model simulation have been reported, especially in the comprehensive evaluation of the effects of sowing date and density factors on rapeseed development and production. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of the AquaCrop model for winter rapeseed development and yield simulation under various sowing dates and densities, and to optimize the sowing date and density for agricultural high-efficient production in the Jianghuai Plain. Two years of experiments were carried out in the rapeseed growing season in 2020 and 2021. The model parameters were fully calibrated and the simulation performances in different treatments of sowing dates and densities were evaluated. The results indicated that the capability of the AquaCrop model to interpret crop development for different sowing dates was superior to that of sowing densities. For rapeseed canopy development, the RMSE for three sowing dates and densities scenarios were 7–22% and 16–23%, respectively. The simulated biomass and grain yield for different sowing dates treatments (RMSE: 0.8–2.1 t·ha−1, Pe: 0–35.3%) were generally better than those of different densities treatments (RMSE: 0.7–3.9 t·ha−1, Pe: 8.2–90%). Compared with other sowing densities, higher overestimation errors of the biomass and yield were observed for the low-density treatment. Adequate agreement for crop evapotranspiration simulation was achieved, with an R2 of 0.79 and RMSE of 26 mm. Combining the simulation results and field data, the optimal sowing scheme for achieving a steadily high yield in the Jianghuai Plain of east China was determined to be sowing in October and a sowing density of 25.0–37.5 plant·m−2. The study demonstrates the great potential of the AquaCrop model to optimize rapeseed sowing patterns and provides a technical means guidance for the formulation of local winter rapeseed production. For centuries, Sophora alopecuroides L. has been used both as a food and an herbal medicine in northern China. A new cytisine-type alkaloid, N-methylene-(5,7,4 ′ -trihydroxy)-isoflavone (LY01), was found in the fruits of Sophora alopecuroides L. and shows neuroprotective effects against Parkinson's disease (PD). PD is a frequently occurring, irreversible neurodegenerative disease that seriously threatens the health of the elderly population. There is no cure for PD. The available treatments help manage the symptoms, but their use is limited by multiple side effects. Therefore, more pharmacological treatments addressing this pathology are urgently required. This study aimed to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of LY01 against PD, as well as their underlying mechanisms, using both in vitro and in vivo experimental models. A 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1, 2, 3, 6-tetrahydropyridine hydrochloride (MPTP)-induced mouse model of PD was used to assess the effects of LY01 on the motor coordination deficit, progression of the pathology, and molecular characteristics. 1-Methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP + )-activated SH-SY5Y cells and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated BV-2 cells were used to evaluate LY01 effects on oxidative damage and neuroinflammation. In the rotarod test, LY01 alleviated the impaired motor coordination in PD mice. Furthermore, LY01 treatment prevented the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and striatum of the PD mice, reduced neuroinflammation in the mice with MPTP-induced PD and the LPS-activated BV-2 cells, and diminished oxidative stress in the PD mice and the MPP + -induced SH-SY5Y cells. Background: The Omicron variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spreads rapidly and insidiously. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) screening is an important means of blocking community transmission in China, but the costs associated with testing are high. Quarantine capacity and medical resources are also threatened. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate different screening strategies to balance outbreak control and consumption of resources. Methods: A community network of 2000 people, considering the heterogeneities of household size and age structure, was generated to reflect real contact networks, and a stochastic individual-based dynamic model was used to simulate SARS-CoV-2 transmission and assess different whole-area nucleic acid screening strategies. We designed a total of 87 screening strategies with different sampling methods, frequencies of screening, and timings of screening. The performance of these strategies was comprehensively evaluated by comparing the cumulative infection rates, the number of tests, and the quarantine capacity and consumption of medical resource, which were expressed as medians (95% uncertainty intervals, 95% UIs). Results: To implement COVID-19 nucleic acid testing for all people (Full Screening), if the screening frequency was four times/week, the cumulative infection rate could be reduced to 13% (95% UI: 1%, 51%), the miss rate decreased to 2% (95% UI: 0%, 22%), and the quarantine and medical resource consumption was lower than higher-frequency Full Screening or sampling screening. When the frequency of Full Screening increased from five to seven times/week (which resulted in a 2581 increase in the number of tests per positive case), the cumulative infection rate was only reduced by 2%. Screening all people weekly by splitting them equally into seven batches could reduce infection rates by 73% compared to once per week, which was similar to Full Screening four times/week. Full Screening had the highest number of tests per positive case, while the miss rate, number of tests per positive case, and hotel quarantine resource consumption in Household-based Sampling Screening scenarios were lower than Random Sampling Screening. The cumulative infection rate of Household-based Sampling Screening or Random Sampling Screening seven times/week was similar to that of Full Screening four times/week. Conclusions: If hotel quarantine, hospital and shelter hospital capacity are seriously insufficient, to stop the spread of the virus as early as possible, high-frequency Full Screening would be necessary, but intermediate testing frequency may be more cost-effective in non-extreme situations. Suitable birth-site habitat is a crucial factor affecting the survival of offspring. The alpine musk deer (Moschus chrysogaster) is an endangered ungulate, native to the Qing-Tibetan Plateau and surrounding areas. In order to determine the birth-site habitat selection of alpine musk deer, we measured and compared 16 ecological variables recorded through transect survey in Xinglongshan National Nature Reserve from July to August, 2021. The results showed that alpine musk deer preferred habitat with higher elevation (2619.67 m ± 22.28 m), steeper slope (35.06°±1.72°), higher arbor canopy (37.67%±6.50%), shrub canopy (55.00%±2.02%), ground-plant cover (83.19%±3.71%), and number of fallen trees (0.18 ± 0.08 /plot). The ecological variables affecting birth-site habitat selection were ranked according to contribution values as follows: shrub canopy, ground-plant cover, number of fallen trees and slope, which was supported by 79.9% correct discrimination rate. Furthermore, alpine musk deer preferred habitat with good concealment (60.61%), minor human activity interference (63.64%) and closer distance to the nearest water source (87.88%). The birth-site habitat selection of alpine musk deer is a comprehensive trade-off of their ecological needs, including security, food availability and water resource. Therefore, reducing the human activities interference and protecting forest edges in altitude of birth-site habitat are conductive to improve the habitat suitability of alpine musk deer. The Omicron variant has become the dominant COVID‐19 variant worldwide due to its rapid and cryptic spread. Therefore, successful early warning is of great importance to be able to control epidemics in their early phase, before developing into large outbreaks. COVID‐19‐related Baidu search index, which reflects human behavior to a certain degree, was used to retrospectively detect the warning signs for Omicron variant outbreaks in China in 2022. The characteristics and effects of warning signs were analyzed in detail. We detected the presence of early warning signs (both high and low thresholds) and found that these occurred 4–7 days earlier than traditional epidemiological surveillance and >20 days earlier than the implementation of the local "lockdown" policy. Compared with the "high threshold" warning, the early warning effect of the "low threshold" is also vital because it indicates a negligence about epidemic prevention and control. However, there is obvious heterogeneity in the optimal threshold for detecting early warning signs and their distribution in different cities. Multi‐source and multi‐point early warning systems should be established via combining internet‐based big data in the future to conduct effective and early real‐time warning. The formation of columbite-group mineral phases in peraluminous granite has not been demonstrated to date. Here, a nanoscale study of the columbite-tantalite mineral in the Zhaojinggou Nb-Ta deposit in North China Craton elucidated its formation mechanism and the role of fluids in Nb-Ta mineralization. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis of a focused ion beam cut of the columbite-tantalite mineral revealed a comparatively well-ordered mineral structure. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) revealed the presence of Nb, Ta, Mn, W, Fe, Sn, and Pb in the columbite-tantalite mineral. Furthermore, detailed TEM images depicted the nanoscale hydrothermal fluid occurring within the columbite-group mineral grain as well as between columbite-tantalite mineral and quartz grains. K, Al, Si, and O were found to be enriched in the hydrothermal fluid that was present between the quartz grains and the columbite-tantalite mineral. It did not react with the mineral grains of the columbite group. The ultrastructure of the columbite-tantalite mineral suggested the columbite-group mineral in the Zhaojinggou Nb-Ta deposit formed during magmatic crystallization rather than from hydrothermal fluids. Furthermore, HR-TEM images provided the first nanoscale observations of the fluid-mediated mineral dissolution and amorphous phase formation. This study also revealed that the mineral dissolution, element transport, and reprecipitation were significantly influenced by the fluid amorphous phase in the Nb-Ta deposits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
