Mafic volcanic rocks have erupted in the Tianchi volcanic zone, Changbai Mountains, northeast China, since late Pliocene time. The zone formed in an extensional environment during early-middle Cenozoic time, and in a compressional environment during late Cenozoic. Crustal thickness (about 40 km) in the Changbai Mountains is larger than the regional average of 34–36 km to the northwest and southeast. The conduit for magma upwelling was not coincident with the NE-striking regional faults, but seem to be confined to a deep-seated NW–WNW-striking fault zone. Since the late Pliocene, the Tianchi volcanic zone was subjected to crustal uplift within an intracontinental, weakly compressional environment (with minor WNW–ESE shearing) related to the westward subduction of the West Pacific plate. The nature of this volcanism is not typical of active, subduction-related continental margin volcanism. The magmatic evolutionary process evolved from trachybasalt through basaltic trachyandesite, trachyte, and pantellerite. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Mangroves play an important role in many aspects of ecosystem services. Mangroves should be accurately extracted from remote sensing imagery to dynamically map and monitor the mangrove distribution area. However, popular mangrove extraction methods, such as the object-oriented method, still have some defects for remote sensing imagery, such as being low-intelligence, time-consuming, and laborious. A pixel classification model inspired by deep learning technology was proposed to solve these problems. Three modules in the proposed model were designed to improve the model performance. A multiscale context embedding module was designed to extract multiscale context information. Location information was restored by the global attention module, and the boundary of the feature map was optimized by the boundary fitting unit. Remote sensing imagery and mangrove distribution ground truth labels obtained through visual interpretation were applied to build the dataset. Then, the dataset was used to train deep convolutional neural network (CNN) for extracting the mangrove. Finally, comparative experiments were conducted to prove the potential for mangrove extraction. We selected the Sentinel-2A remote sensing data acquired on 13 April 2018 in Hainan Dongzhaigang National Nature Reserve in China to conduct a group of experiments. After processing, the data exhibited 2093 × 2214 pixels, and a mangrove extraction dataset was generated. The dataset was made from Sentinel-2A satellite, which includes five original bands, namely R, G, B, NIR, and SWIR-1, and six multispectral indices, namely normalization difference vegetation index (NDVI), modified normalized difference water index (MNDWI), forest discrimination index (FDI), wetland forest index (WFI), mangrove discrimination index (MDI), and the first principal component (PCA1). The dataset has a total of 6400 images. Experimental results based on datasets show that the overall accuracy of the trained mangrove extraction network reaches 97.48%. Our method benefits from CNN and achieves a more accurate intersection and union ratio than other machine learning and pixel classification methods by analysis. Context: The goal of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is to increase the oxygen (O₂) supply to the body significantly. Because of the toxic side effects and complications of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO₂), the environmental pressure and treatment time must be restricted. The research team hypothesized that other therapies administered during HBOT could safely improve the value of the arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaO₂) during HBOT and improve its therapeutic effect.Objective: The study intended to investigate whether electroacupuncture (EA) while receiving HBOT had a greater effect for healthy individuals than HBOT or EA alone or EA combined with normobaric pure oxygen (pure O₂).Design: The research team designed a randomized, controlled trial.Setting: The study was performed in the Department of Hyperbaric Medicine at the No. 401 Hospital of the People's Liberation Army in Qingdao, China.Participants: A total of 81 volunteers were recruited. After thorough physical examination and laboratory testing, 21 volunteers were excluded from the study. Participants included 60 healthy volunteers.Intervention: Participants were randomly assigned to 1 of 4 groups of 15 participants each: (1) an HBOT group, (2) an EA group, (3) an EA During HBOT group, and (4) an EA Combined With Pure O₂group.Outcome Measures: Because at the current technology level a blood gas analyzer cannot test PaO₂during HBOT, transcutaneous oxygen partial pressure (PtcO₂) of the participants was tested instead. Before, during, and after EA, variations in PtcO₂were monitored in each group.Results: For the EA During HBOT group, (1) the increase in PtcO₂during EA was significantly greater than that observed for the other 3 groups (P > .05).Conclusions: The EA During HBOT method provided improvements in the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of HBOT, and the study's results partially demonstrated the accuracy of the research team's hypothesis that EA therapy applied during HBOT could safely improve the value of PtcO₂(PaO₂) during HBOT and produce a greater therapeutic effect. Objective: To evaluate the clinical effects and survival prognosis of radical gastrectomy assisted by external vision in gastric cancer., Methods: A total of 60 hospitalized gastric cancer patients from June 2016 to December 2018 were selected and divided into the observation group and control group according to different surgical procedures. The control group was treated with traditional open radical gastrectomy, while the observation group was treated with radical gastrectomy assisted by an external vision microscope. Relevant surgical indicators, visual analogue scale (VAS), postoperative complications, and life quality assessment were analyzed and compared between the two groups., Results: The incision length and intraoperative blood loss in the observation group were smaller than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant ( P < 0.05); compared with the control group, the observation group had significantly shorter hospital stay, earlier postoperative first exhaust time, and lower gastric fluid volume at the 3 rd day after surgery ( P < 0.05). The pain scores of the observation group at 1, 4, and 12 weeks after surgery were lower than those of the control group ( P < 0.05), and the difference was significant. The quality of life scores at the 1 st week and 12 th week after surgery showed that the dysphagia symptom scores of the observation group and the control group were significantly reduced but the two groups had significant differences in fatigue, physical function, pain score, postoperative pain, and overall quality of life. The observation group was significantly better than the control group ( P < 0.05). Follow-up studies showed no significant difference between mortality and cancer recurrence ( P > 0.05); the patients recovered well at postoperation, and the diet of the observation group was better than that of the control group ( P < 0.05); gastric reflux and knife pain were less than those of the control group ( P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Radical gastrectomy assisted by external vision for gastric cancer yields clinical benefits for gastric cancer patients, which not only dramatically shortened the length of hospital stay but also effectively ameliorated the quality of life of patients, all indicating that external vision-assisted surgery was significantly better than traditional gastrectomy in improving the postoperative quality of life of gastric cancer patients in the absence of increasing the risk of adverse events., Competing Interests: The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest., (Copyright © 2021 Jian Zheng et al.)

Background: To explore the role of preoperative prealbumin levels in predicting the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer., Methods: A total of 989 gastric cancer patients in the Affiliated Tumour Hospital of Harbin Medical University who underwent gastrectomy were included in this retrospective study. The preoperative prealbumin level, clinicopathological data, and follow-up data were recorded. According to the maximum chi-square survival correlation value, the survival of patients with low preoperative prealbumin (<140 mg/L) and high preoperative prealbumin (≥140 mg/L) were compared using the log-rank test and the Cox proportional hazard regression model., Results: Based on the best cut-off value of 140 mg/L, we divided the patients into the lower prealbumin group (<140 mg/L) and the higher prealbumin group (≥140 mg/L). Compared with the higher prealbumin group, the lower prealbumin group were older and had larger tumor volumes, lower hemoglobin (Hb) levels, and more upper gastric cancer tumors. The univariate analysis showed that prealbumin and other clinicopathological factors, including age, hemoglobin, tumor size, macroscopic type, cell differentiation, liver metastasis, operation type, N stage, and T stage, were significant prognostic factors. The multivariable analysis showed that age, prealbumin, macroscopic type, location, T stage, and N stage were independent prognostic factors., Conclusions: The preoperative prealbumin level was an independent prognostic factor for patients with gastric cancer. The preoperative prealbumin level can be used to predict the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer and guide clinical practice.

The prognostic value of histological types in gastric cancer is not well defined. This study aims to clarify the clinicopathologic features of various WHO histological types and their prognostic significance in advanced gastric cancer (AGC). We retrospectively reviewed 741 patients with gastric cancer in our hospital from 1997 to 2007. The AGC (741 cases) were divided into five histological types: well-differentiated carcinoma (WD), moderately differentiated carcinoma (MD), poorly differentiated carcinoma (PD), mucinous carcinoma (MC), and signet ring cell carcinoma (SRC). The various AGC histological types presented significant differences in their clinical and tumor features. The five-year survival rates of patients with WD, MD, PD, MC, and SRC were 87.1%, 57.1%, 50.6%, 62.7%, and 43.4%, respectively (P=0.012). Multivariate analysis showed that cell differentiation, age, depth of invasion, and lymph node metastasis were independent prognostic factors in AGC, whereas MC and SRC were not. Cell differentiation is related to tumor aggression or patient stage. Advanced stage SRC carcinoma had more aggressive features and worse prognosis than the other types. MC carcinoma survival is correlated with the stage at diagnosis. The degree of cell differentiation is an important predictor of survival in AGC.

Background: The peacekeeping military units of contributing countries are unfamiliar with the conditions prevailing in foreign mission areas and therefore have difficulties with medical supplies storage., Aim: The aim of this study is to provide reasonable and practical guidance on the maintenance of medical supplies in the peacekeeping military units of contributing countries., Materials and Methods: A total of 1,972 prescriptions were received by the pharmacy in the peacekeeping level II hospital in the Republic of Sudan from February to July of 2009 including a total of 186 drug categories and 17,713 minimum packing units. Pairwise comparison was performed using the c2 test. When the total number of samples was smaller than 40, the Fisher's exact test was adopted for pairwise comparison., Results: The majority of the consumed medicines mainly belonged to 6 categories, including specialty drugs, anti-microbial drugs, Chinese patent medicines, gastrointestinal drugs, central nervous system drugs, and drugs regulating fluids, electrolytes, and acid-base balance. Altogether, the drugs in the 6 categories accounted for 74% of all consumed medicines that were divided into a total of 20 categories., Conclusions: Medicine consumption in peacekeeping level II hospitals is unique, therefore the drugs used in military medical facilities should be prepared according to their actual needs in the area of peacekeeping operations.
