Summary: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic has a significant impact on the immune system. This is the first and largest study on pre‐existing immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) patients infected with COVID‐19 in China. We prospectively collected ITP patients infected with COVID‐19 enrolled in the National Longitudinal Cohort of Hematological Diseases (NICHE, NCT04645199) and followed up for at least 1 month after infection. One thousand and one hundred forty‐eight pre‐existing ITP patients were included. Two hundred and twelve (18.5%) patients showed a decrease in the platelet (PLT) count after infection. Forty‐seven (4.1%) patients were diagnosed with pneumonia. Risk factors for a decrease in the PLT count included baseline PLT count <50 × 109/L (OR, 1.76; 95% CI, 1.25–2.46; p = 0.001), maintenance therapy including thrombopoietin receptor agonists (TPO‐RAs) (OR, 2.27; 95% CI, 1.60–3.21; p < 0.001) and previous splenectomy (OR, 1.98; 95% CI, 1.09–3.61; p = 0.03). Risk factors for pneumonia included age ≥40 years (OR, 2.45; 95% CI, 1.12–5.33; p = 0.02), ≥2 comorbidities (OR, 3.47; 95% CI, 1.63–7.64; p = 0.001), maintenance therapy including TPO‐RAs (OR, 2.14; 95% CI, 1.17–3.91; p = 0.01) and immunosuppressants (OR, 3.05; 95% CI, 1.17–7.91; p = 0.02). Background: Maternal–fetal listeriosis, caused by Listeria monocytogenes, is a rare but serious infection. Herein, we report the clinical and genomic characteristics of a clinical L. monocytogenes ST120 isolate recovered from a pregnant woman.Methods: The clinical symptoms and treatment in pregnant woman were described in detail. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) was performed on the L. monocytogenes isolate SJZ_LM001, and the genomic characterization of the isolate was deeply analyzed.Results: The clinical symptoms in pregnant women were mainly fever, and the placenta experienced severe inflammation. The pregnant woman was treated with ampicillin for effective anti-infective therapy. Genomic analysis showed that isolate SJZ_LM001 is sequence type (ST) 120, belong to clonal complex (CC)8 and lineage II of L. monocytogenes. Additionally, the isolates SJZ_LM001 harbored a novel plasmid pSJZ_LM001, which carried arsenical resistance genes (arsACD and acr3), and cadmium resistance genes (cadAC). Drug susceptibility testing showed that the isolate SJZ-LM001 was susceptible to ampicillin, meropenem, penicillin, and cotrimoxazole.Conclusion: This is the first to identify a clinical case of infection in a pregnant woman caused by ST120 L. monocytogenes in China. These findings could benefit our understanding of the genomic characteristics of L. monocytogenes, and the pregnancy-related listeriosis and providing early diagnosis and effective targeted treatment. Purpose: To explore the clinical distribution characteristics and antimicrobial susceptibilities of carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli (CR-ECO) in Hebei Province, China, from 2017 to 2019, and provide data on the treatment of this bacterial infection and the prevention of its spread. Materials and Methods: A total of 1439 CR-ECO strains were collected from 2017 to 2019 in Hebei Province, China. Drug sensitivity tests were performed using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) method, and the data were analyzed statistically using WHONET5.6 software. Results: A total of 54,377 strains of Escherichia coli were isolated in Hebei Province from 2017 to 2019, of which 1439 strains were CR-ECO (2.65%). The highest proportion (33.78%) of strains was isolated from urine, and the detection rate showed a slow downward trend over the past 3 years. CR-ECO was mainly detected in densely populated and economically developed areas. Of all the patients, 54.2% were from the medical ward; the ratio of male to female patients with CR-ECO infections was 1.35:1; elderly patients and adults accounted for 59.6% and 30.8%, respectively, whereas minors and newborns accounted for 4.9% and 4.7%, respectively. For CR-ECO, the drug resistance rates to β-lactams were all higher than 80% and there was an annual increasing trend, while the drug resistance rates to quinolones remained nearly unchanged. The rate of resistance to aminoglycosides was relatively low, especially to amikacin (approximately 22%). The MIC50 of other antibacterial drugs, except amikacin, was equal to or higher than the break point of drug resistance. Conclusion: From 2017 to 2019, the isolation rate of CR-ECO in Hebei Province, China, remained stable; however, the drug resistance rate showed an upward trend, primarily in cases of urinary tract infections in older men; the resistance rate to amikacin was the lowest. Existing cross-sectional studies suggest a strong positive association between Internet use, physical activity, and mental health in older adults; however, longitudinal studies reporting the relationship between Internet use, physical activity, and levels of depressive symptoms in older adults are lacking. This study aimed to examine the bidirectional relationship between Internet use and depressive symptoms in older adults and its underlying mechanisms. We used two waves of follow-up data (2016 and 2018) from the China Family Panel Studies, including 5837 participants aged 60 years or above. The bidirectional relationship between Internet usage time and depressive symptoms was examined using a cross-lagged model. The mediating role of physical exercise was examined using a half-longitudinal mediation model. The results revealed a bidirectional relationship between Internet use time, frequency of physical activity, and depressive symptoms. Longer Internet use predicted lower levels of depressive symptoms, and the frequency of physical activity mediated the longitudinal relationship between Internet use and depressive symptoms in older adults. First, our study used self-report-based variables. Second, our study did not obtain the specific timing of the application of various functions of the Internet and the intensity of physical activity among older adults. Finally, based on the availability of data, our study involved only two waves of data. This may not be sufficient for a full longitudinal mediation effect test. Internet use and depressive symptoms were interrelated over time among older adults. The frequency of physical activity was a mediator of Internet use and depressive symptoms. This underscores the importance of Internet-based technologies to enable healthy living and prevent depression and loneliness in older adults. • Internet use and physical activity had a significant inhibitory effect on depressive symptoms. • Internet use, frequency of physical exercise, and depressive symptoms were bidirectional. • The frequency of physical activity mediates the association between Internet use and depressive symptoms. The development of Internet technology has significantly impacted how people live their daily lives. How this disparity in Internet use affects the self-rated health of older adults needs to be further explored. This paper studies the impact of Internet use on self-rated health, aiming to examine the effect of Internet use and social support on the self-rated health of older adults in China. This study used data from the 2017 China General Social Survey (CGSS) to verify the effect of Internet use on older adults' self-rated health. The results showed that Chinese elderly who used the Internet had a higher self-rated health, and social support from relatives and friends significantly improved the elderly's self-rated health. This social support played a critical, partially mediating role between Internet use and self-rated health. In China, the effect of Internet use on older adults' self-rated health was heterogeneous. Among them, the impact of Internet use was more significant for the male elderly, younger elderly, and rural elderly. The results suggest that the government should formulate targeted policies to improve the utilization of the Internet and maintain a good Internet environment to enhance the well-being of older adults according to the trend of population aging and the popularity of the Internet.
