Xerocomoideae is an ecologically and economically important Boletaceae subfamily (Boletales) comprising 10 genera. Although many studies have focused on Xerocomoideae in China, the diversity, taxonomy and molecular phylogeny still remained incompletely understood. In the present study, taxonomic and phylogenetic studies on Chinese species of Xerocomoideae were carried out by morphological examinations and molecular phylogenetic analyses. Eight genera in Xerocomoideae, viz. Aureoboletus, Boletellus, Heimioporus, Hemileccinum, Hourangia, Phylloporus, Pulchroboletus, and Xerocomus were confirmed to be distributed in China; 97 species of the subfamily were accepted as being distributed in China; one ambiguous taxon was tentatively named Bol. aff. putuoensis; two synonyms, viz. A. marroninus and P. dimorphus were defined. Among the Chinese accepted species, 13 were newly described, viz. A. albipes, A. conicus, A. ornatipes, Bol. erythrolepis, Bol. rubidus, Bol. sinochrysenteroides, Bol. subglobosus, Bol. zenghuoxingii, H. squamipes, P. hainanensis, Pul. erubescens, X. albotomentosus, and X. fuscatus, 36 known species were redescribed, and the other 48 species were reviewed. Currently, investigations on the microbiota of sports centers and related facilities have been carried out in some countries, which showed that Microsporum gypseum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes and T. tonsurans are important dermatoprotofungi. In China, some research on athletes and sports equipment between the fungal community and public health has made some interesting achievements. However, the bacterial group among them has not been reported. Therefore, The aim of this study was to uncover (I) gymnastic equipment is there potential pathogenic factors and (ii) is there any difference in the biomarker of bacterial in different types of gymnastic room? The samples were collected from the gymnastics halls of one university in western China and main sports equipment, including gymnastics carpets, moving barres, hoops and balls, as well as wall bars, parallel bars and horizontal bars. The 16S rDNA of all the samples was sequenced, and the analyses were performed using FaproTax, Bug base function prediction and Line Discriminant Analysis (LDA) Effect Size. A 16S rDNA sequence analysis revealed abundant bacterial species biodiversity on gymnasts and apparatuses from two gymnastics halls at a university in western China. An analysis using the FaproTax and Bugbase functional prediction platforms showed that there were some opportunistic pathogens on the athletes and equipment from the Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) and Artistic Gymnastics (AG) halls, such as Staphylococcus and Corynebacteiaceae. Infectious agents associated with cancer induction and development, such as Ruminococcaceae, Veillonellaceae and Moraxellaceae, as well as microbial toxin producers with a potential impact on human health, were also detected. According to a line discriminant analysis (LDA effect size), the bacterial biomarker groups of the two gymnasiums were different at the phylum-genus level: for RG, Erysipelatoclostridium, Lachnospiraceae and Bacteroidales, while for AG, Rhizobiales. Based on the results of the investigation, we suggest that more comprehensive consideration should be given to indoor microbial biodiversity and related public health problems in school gymnasiums. Using chicken feathers as bait, the microbiota of soil samples collected from 20 zoos in China were enriched for keratin-utilizing microorganisms, which were cultured in the current study. The microbiota was then isolated by dilution-plate and plate-coating methods, and their diversity, core microbiota, and ecological functions were investigated and analyzed. A total of 4928 bacterial isolates belonging to 4 phyla, 5 classes, 6 orders, 10 families, 31 genera, and 91 species were identified, with Bacillus as the dominant genus; and 5550 fungal isolates belonging to 3 phyla, 9 classes, 18 orders, 40 families, 71 genera, and 157 species were identified, with Aspergillus as the dominant genus. The core microbiota of the enriched soil samples comprised 10 bacterial and 22 fungal isolates, with the core taxa consisting of Scopulariopsis flava, Lysinibacillus fusiformis, Peribacillus simplex, and Priestia megaterium. Ecological function analysis revealed that the core microbiota was saprophytic and played important roles in organic matter degradation (including carbon and nitrogen cycles). Findings from this study lay a theoretical for efficiently degrading waste, that is, the core taxa could be used to construct microbial consortia that efficiently degrade keratin-rich material and other waste, in addition to enriching keratinophilic microbial resources. Inbreeding more likely occurs in small, isolated and endangered populations, and may influence the sustainable survival of a population. As the Amur tiger Panthera tigris altaica population in China experienced a severe decline in the 1990s, the recovering population may be prone to inbreeding and its potential impacts on population health. However, the inbreeding status has not been evaluated and relationships with health remain poorly understood in wild animals. Based on the genetic samples collected from the main Amur tiger habitats in China, this study analyzed the population inbreeding level, major histocompatibility complex polymorphism, parasitic infections and gut microbial structures and functions, and then explored the influence of inbreeding on these traits. Our results indicated that more than 50% of individual relationships were in cousin or half sibs, and 22.73% of individuals had moderate or high inbreeding coefficients. There was a significant positive correlation between the inbreeding level of an individual and the Toxocara cati parasitic load. Gut microbiota community structure and function were also impacted by inbreeding intensity. In conclusion, results indicate that the Amur tiger population in China has reached a moderate level of inbreeding and that there are direct interactions between inbreeding intensity and parasitic load and gut microbiota. This study thus provides an early warning on the Amur tiger population health and should prompt the construction of national and international ecological corridors and/or the re‐introduction of new individuals to relieve the evident inbreeding pressure. A significant decrease in annual runoff (AR) in the headwater region of Yellow River, China, has been observed during the past decades, which produces a recognized impact on long-term water resources management and planning. In this paper, the Pettitt method and Sequential Clustering method are used to detect the change point of AR and annual precipitation (AP) series. On the basis of the change point, the whole observed period is divided into two periods, before-point (Period I) and after-point period (Period II). The distribution characteristic of occurrence number of given extreme AP and AR and the relationship between the AP and AR in the two periods are analyzed. Then, the impact of AP change on the design AR is quantified. The results indicate that the AP and AR has a change point at the location of 1989.The distribution of occurrence number of given AP with more than 500 mm and AR with more than 150 mm in Period I is clearly different than that in Period II as well as the AP-AR relationship. The quantiles of AP and AR with the given non-exceedance probabilities of 0.8, 0.9, 0.95, 0.98, 0.99, 0.995, 0.998 and 0.999 in Period I decrease significantly compared to those in Period II. The AP decrease accounts for 53, 53, 54, 57, 60, 62, 66 and 68% of the total decrease in AR at the level of quantile with respect to the given eight non-exceedance probabilities from 0.8 to 0.999. Objectives: The aim of the present study is to investigate the associations between the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) sarcopenic definition, and its individual criteria, and risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality in the Chinese elderly. Methods: Longitudinal analysis of 1,264 participants aged 60 years or older at baseline (2013–2014) living in suburban areas, China. Sarcopenia was defined according to the recommended algorithm of AWGS. Muscle mass was measured by a direct segmental multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis. Muscle strength was assessed by handgrip strength, and physical performance measured via usual walking speed. Results: Cox proportional hazard models were used to assess the risk of CVD and all-cause mortality. After 40 months of follow-up, forty-eight deaths (4.2%) died in this cohort. The mortality rate with sarcopenia was 4.7% in men and 3.8% in women. After adjusting for potential confounders, the risk of all-cause death was 4.15 times higher in subjects with sarcopenia. Furthermore, low muscle mass (HR: 2.62, 95% CI 1.34–5.13) and low grip strength (HR: 5.79; 95% CI 2.28–14.71), but not walking speed, were found to be significantly associated with all-cause mortality. Risk of CVD mortality was significantly greater in sarcopenia. Low grip strength and low walking speed were associated with 11 times (HR: 11.03, 95% CI 1.58–77.02) and 13 times (HR: 13.02; 95% CI 1.18–143.78) higher risk of CVD mortality. Conclusions: Sarcopenia and components of sarcopenia were associated with greater CVD and all-cause mortality. The dwarf musk deer, or Chinese forest musk deer (Moschus berezovskii) is an endangered artiodactyl species native to a narrow region in southern and central China as well as northernmost Vietnam. This species is well known for the habit of male musk deer to secrete musk from the musk gland. Unmated male forest musk deer secrete a greater amount of musk than mated males, which probably allows them to attract a greater number of females. However, transcriptome data for this species are deficient, and the potential transcriptional pathways of musk production remain unknown. In this study, we used RNA-sequencing (RNA-Seq) to perform an in-depth survey of transcriptome data from musk gland and to compare the transcriptome differences between mated- and unmated sexually mature Chinese forest musk deer. There were 13,009 and 12,995 genes were expressed in unmated and mated musk glands tissue. In addition to analyzing these genes, we analyzed the differentially expressed genes in musk gland tissue between mated and unmated Chinese forest musk deer males. One hundred and thirty seven genes were found differentially expressed. We found that some genes in "PPAR signaling pathway", "PI3K-Akt signaling pathway" and "Thyroid hormone synthesis" pathways may be associated with musk production and the secretion of the musk deer. The impacts of tectonic deformation on pore structure of the Wufeng-Longmaxi shales in southern China were studied on tectonically deformed shales. Core description, thin-section observation, total organic carbon, X-ray diffraction, low-pressure gas (N2 and CO2) adsorption, mercury intrusion capillary pressure and field emission-scanning electron microscopy experiments were performed. The undeformed shale (UDS), brittle deformed shale (BDS) and ductile deformed shale (DDS) can be sorted based on the variability of original texture, fabric and structure properties of the shale samples. In addition, shale samples with different deformation mechanisms have various pore-structure characteristics. Organic matter pores and interparticle pores in clay minerals are the dominant pore types in the selected shale samples. The BDS sample has a greater proportion of macropores (or micro-fractures), indicating brittle tectonic deformation has a significant effect on the development of macropores in shales. In contrast, the DDS sample has more micropores than the UDS and BDS samples, suggesting ductile tectonic deformation may damage larger pores owing to the compression by complex tectonic stress. The influence of water resources allocation patterns on root layers soil desalination and groundwater quality were investigated by monitoring different irrigation area from People's Victory Canal irrigation district in Huang Huai Hai plain China that had been conducted well canal combined irrigation patterns from 1954. A typical area was chosen belong to the People's Victory Canal irrigation district from 2013 to 2015. Precipitation of the area, surface water irrigation amount, groundwater consumption amount, salinity content in 0 to 100 cm soil layer and total dissolved solids in groundwater were monitored, the ratio of canal-well water (the ratio of surface water to groundwater irrigation amount, CWWR), soil salinity spatial dynamic, desalinization rate in 0 to 100 cm soil layer and sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) of groundwater were analyzed in the area. CWWR of Branch 1, Branch 2, and Branch 3 ranged from 0.72 to 1.03, 2.50 to 2.63, and 0.65 to 1.26 in 2013 to 2015, respectively. The soil salinity contents for the top 100 cm horizons in the Branch 2 irrigation area decreased slightly by 1.63% to 8.90% compared with the values in the Branch 1 and Branch 3 irrigation districts while the water resources allocation patterns were conducted two years later. Compared with the area in the hydrological period in 2013, the area of average soil salinity exceeded 0.32 mS/cm for the top 20 cm horizons has decreased notably in 2014 and 2015. Compared with the values in 2014, the average TDS concentration of groundwater increased by 18.66% in the study area in 2015, whereas the sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) values in the above-mentioned irrigation areas decreased by 23.58%, 36.82%, and 53.37% in the normal period in 2015. The combined well-canal irrigation pattern could represent a useful water allocation method mainly because of the temporal and spatial regulation of water resources and root layer soil desalination; however, possible increases of TDS in the groundwater may cause potential ecosystem degradation risks after long-term water allocation in semi-arid areas. A state-of-the-art microseismic monitoring system has been implemented at the left bank slope of the Jinping first stage hydropower station since June 2009. The main objectives are to ensure slope safety under continuous excavation at the left slope, and, very recently, the safety of the concrete arch dam. The safety of the excavated slope is investigated through the development of fast and accurate real-time event location techniques aimed at assessing the evolution and migration of the seismic activity, as well as through the development of prediction capabilities for rock slope instability. Myriads of seismic events at the slope have been recorded by the microseismic monitoring system. Regions of damaged rock mass have been identified and delineated on the basis of the tempo-spatial distribution analysis of microseismic activity during the periods of excavation and consolidation grouting. However, how to effectively utilize the abundant microseismic data in order to quantify the stability of the slope remains a challenge. In this paper, a rock mass damage evolutional model based on microseismic data is proposed, combined with a 3D finite element method (FEM) model for feedback analysis of the left bank slope stability. The model elements with microseismic damage are interrogated and the deteriorated mechanical parameters determined accordingly. The relationship between microseismic activities induced by rock mass damage during slope instability, strength degradation, and dynamic instability of the slope are explored, and the slope stability is quantitatively evaluated. The results indicate that a constitutive relation considering microseismic damage is concordant with the simulation results and the influence of rock mass damage can be allowed for its feedback analysis of 3D slope stability. In addition, the safety coefficient of the rock slope considering microseismic damage is reduced by a value of 0.11, in comparison to the virgin rock slope model. Our results demonstrate that microseismic activity induced by construction disturbance only slightly affects the stability of the slope. The proposed feedback analysis technique provides a novel method for dynamically assessing rock slope stability and can be used to assess the slope stability of other similar rock slopes. Visibility degradation is a pervasive and urgent environmental problem in China. The occurrence of low visibility events is frequent in the North China Plain, where the aerosol loading is quite high and aerosols are strongly hygroscopic. A parameterization of light extinction (Kex) for low visibilities on hazy days is proposed in this paper, based on visibility, relative humidity (RH), aerosol hygroscopic growth factors and particle number size distributions measured during the Haze in China (HaChi) Project. Observational results show that a high aerosol volume concentration is responsible for low visibility at RH <90%; while for RH >90%, decrease of visibility is mainly influenced by the increase of RH. The parameterization of Kex is developed on the basis of aerosol volume concentrations and RH, taking into accounts the sensitivity of visibility to the two factors and the availability of corresponding data. Size-resolved and bulk activation properties of aerosols were measured at a regional/suburban site in the North China Plain (NCP), which is occasionally heavily polluted by anthropogenic aerosol particles and gases. A Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN) closure study is conducted with bulk CCN number concentration (NCCN) and calculated CCN number concentration based on the aerosol number size distribution and size-resolved activation properties. The observed CCN number concentration (NCCN-obs) are higher than those observed in other locations than China, with average NCCN-obs of roughly 2000, 3000, 6000, 10 000 and 13 000 cm-3 at supersaturations of 0.056, 0.083, 0.17, 0.35 and 0.70%, respectively. An inferred critical dry diameter (DmM) is calculated based on the NCCN-obs and aerosol number size distribution assuming homogeneous chemical composition. The inferred cut-off diameters are in the ranges of 190-280, 160-260, 95-180, 65-120 and 50-100nm supersaturations of 0.056, 0.083, 0.17, 0.35 and 0.7%, with their mean values 230.1, 198.4, 128.4, 86.4 and 69.2 nm, respectively. Size-resolved activation measurements show that most of the 300 nm particles are activated at the investigated super-saturations, while almost no particles of 30 nm are activated even at the highest supersaturation of 0.72%. The activation ratio increases with increasing supersaturation and particle size. The slopes of the activation curves for ambient aerosols are not as steep as those observed in calibrations with ammonium sulfate suggesting that the observed aerosols is an external mixture of more hygroscopic and hydrophobic particles. The calculated CCN number concentrations (NCCN-calc) based on the size-resolved activation ratio and aerosol number size distribution correlate well with the NCCN-obs, and show an average overestimation of 19%. Sensitivity studies of the CCN closure show that the NCCNat each supersaturation is well predicted with the campaign average of size-resolved activation curves. These results indicate that the aerosol number size distribution is critical in the prediction of possible CCN. The CCN number concentration can be reliably estimated using time-averaged, size-resolved activation efficiencies without accounting for the temporal variations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The incorporation of power generation derived from renewable energy sources, or renewable power generation (RPG), into conventional electric power grids has been rapidly increasing on a large scale in recent years. However, this process can be expected to inevitably increase the uncertainty associated with transmission line investment owing to the inherent uncertainty associated with RPG. While robust transmission expansion planning (RTEP) has been commonly employed for optimizing transmission line investments, this method suffers from serious disadvantages such as the neglect of available RPG probability information, overly conservative solutions, and exceedingly time consuming solution processes. The present work addresses these disadvantages by modeling the probability of RPG uncertainty according to RPG output probabilities obtained over a long-term planning horizon based on available historical data using a hybrid probability uncertainty set constructed using 1-norm and ∞-norm metrics. A probability-driven RTEP model is then proposed to obtain an optimal investment strategy that provides a security guarantee under the worst-case RPG probability distribution, while alleviating the need for overly conservative solutions with high total expansion costs. In addition, a modified column-and-constraint generation algorithm is developed to solve the proposed tri-level probability-driven RTEP model, where the large-scale inner bi-level component of the optimization problem is decomposed into several small-scale linear models that can be solved in parallel. The proposed algorithm requires no dual variables in the inner problem and eliminates all highly non-convex bilinear terms like those obtained in conventional RTEP solution algorithms. This can effectively increase the computational speed of the solution process. The effectiveness, good applicability, and robustness of the proposed model and solution algorithm are demonstrated by numerical applications based on a Garver's 6-bus test system and an existing electric grid system in northwestern China. Length-weight relationships ( LWR), W = aLb, were estimated for nine fish species belonging to three orders, four families and nine genera from the Hunan Zhangjiajie Chinese Giant Salamander National Natural Reserve, in the northwestern part of Hunan Province of central China. Six of the species are endemic to China, of which three are also endemic to the Yangtze River. The r2 value ranged from 0.9546 to 0.9924. Values of b varied from 2.9177 to 3.6752. The main influencing factors of water environment and the spatiotemporal differences of eutrophication were identified in the Dianchi Lake, the results indicated a comparatively poor and fluctuating the water environmental condition in the Caohai compared to the Waihai, and differences in the correlation between water environment indicators were observed in Caohai and Waihai. The absolute contribution rates of the inner sources to water temperature, pH, electrical conductance, total nitrogen, chlorophyll a and algal density were the largest in Caohai, while offshore sources are pH, electrical conductance, permanganate index, total phosphorus and chlorophyll a in Waihai. The eutrophication level is relatively high near the Xiyuan Suidao section, and the comprehensive trophic level indexes are 61.14, 64.45 and 64.45 in spring, summer and autumn, respectively, which all reach the state of moderate eutrophication; the comprehensive trophic level index is 55.72 in winter, which reaches the state of light eutrophication. The algal density near the Xiyuan Suidao and Luojiaying sections exhibited high levels, reaching a state of moderate algal bloom in summer. Spatial autocorrelation analyses highlighted significant positive and negative spatial autocorrelation for comprehensive Trophic Level Index and algal density, respectively, in Dianchi Lake. The High-High aggregation of the comprehensive Trophic Level Index and algal density was mainly concentrated in the Caohai, while the Low-Low aggregation of the comprehensive Trophic Level Index was primarily observed in the Waihai. Consequently, the risk of eutrophication and algal bloom outbreak in Caohai surpassed that in Waihai. In residential environment, NO 2 is an important air pollutant. Yet, the dynamics of indoor NO 2 and source contributions to human exposure are not well understood. Here, we conducted a continuous NO 2 measurement in and out of eight households in Guangzhou, China. Paired high time-resolution NO 2 data sets indoors (kitchen, living room) and outdoors (balcony) were obtained with NO 2 monitors. We summarized the indoor and outdoor NO 2 levels, identified temporal variation patterns, analyzed indoor-outdoor relationships, and quantified source contributions to indoor NO 2 exposure. Indoor NO 2 were overall higher than outdoor NO 2 , and in most cases, the highest NO 2 levels were observed in the kitchen. NO 2 in the kitchen was characterized by multiple spikes associated with use of gas stoves, while NO 2 in the living room was also elevated but the peaks were generally smaller. The indoor-outdoor correlations were stronger in winter than in summer, and were stronger in nighttime than daytime. The sources contributing to indoor NO 2 were separated with a conceptual model. Overall, the outdoor NO 2 source contributed 73%-76% of the NO 2 in the kitchen, and 76%-85% in the living room. The source pattern was quite different: outdoor NO 2 sources were present indoors all the time; by contrast, indoor NO 2 sources were present sporadically but with a very high contribution. Background: Numerous studies have indicated an obesity paradox in observational research on aging health, where being normal weight or underweight adversely affects cognitive function, while moderate obesity may offer protective benefits. This study aims to investigate the association between body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), abdominal volume index (AVI), and the joint effect of BMI and HC on cognitive impairment in older Chinese people., Methods: A total of 10,579 participants aged 65 years and older from the 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) were included in this cross-sectional study. BMI, WC, HC, WHtR, WHR, and AVI were calculated from height, weight, WC, and HC measurements, where weight, WC, and HC were obtained by direct measurement. Mini-Mental State Examination was used to assess cognitive impairment. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were estimated using binary logistic regression. Non-linear correlations were investigated using restricted cubic spline curves., Results: In multivariate logistic regression models fully adjusted for confounding variables, our analyses showed significant negative associations of WC [OR 0.93 (95%CI 0.88-0.98), P = .012], HC [OR 0.92 (95%CI 0.87-0.97), P = .004], lower WHR (Q2) [OR 0.85 (95%CI 0.72-1.00), P = .044], and AVI [OR 0.93 (95%CI 0.88-0.98), P = .011] with cognitive impairment. Nonlinear curve analysis showed that the risk of cognitive impairment was lowest when the BMI was about 25.5 kg/m², suggesting that the optimal BMI for older Chinese people to maintain good cognitive ability may be in the overweight range. In addition, there was a non-linear "N" shaped relationship between HC and cognitive impairment, with HC having the highest risk of cognitive impairment at about 82 cm and the lowest risk at about 101 cm. Leveraging data from a longitudinal study of Chinese families (n = 364), this research aims to understand the role of secure base script knowledge as a cognitive mechanism by which early caregiving experiences inform adolescents' friendship quality and feelings of loneliness. Results showed that observed maternal sensitivity at 14 and 24 months old was negatively associated with adolescents' self-reported conflicts with close friends (β = -0.17, p = 0.044) at 15 years old, and this association was partially mediated by their secure base script knowledge assessed at 10 years old. Further, secure base script knowledge moderated the link between adolescents' friend conflict and feelings of loneliness (β = -0.15, p = 0.037). The results support a cognitive script perspective on the association between early caregiving experiences and later socio-emotional adjustment. Furthermore, this study adds to the developmental literature that has previously focused on more stringent and authoritarian aspects of parenting in Chinese families, thereby contributing to our understanding of how sensitive and supportive parenting practices contribute to socio-emotional development outside of Western contexts. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: Maternal sensitivity during infancy and toddlerhood has a long-term association with adolescents' friendship quality and adolescents' secure base script partially explains the association. Background: Childhood-onset lupus nephritis (cLN) is a severe form of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with high morbidity and mortality. The impact of long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) on adverse outcomes in cLN remains unclear., Methods: We combined a 19-years cLN cohort from seven provinces in China with high-resolution PM 2.5 dataset from 2001 to 2020, investigating the association between long-term exposure to PM 2.5 and its constituents (sulfate, nitrate, organic matter, black carbon, ammonium) with the risk of death and kidney failure, analyzed with multiple variables Cox models. We also evaluated the association between 3-year average PM 2.5 exposure before study entry and baseline SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI) scores using linear regression models., Results: Each 10 μg/m 3 increase in annual average PM 2.5 exposure was associated with an increased risk of death and kidney failure (HR = 1.58, 95 % CI: 1.24-2.02). Black carbon showed the strongest association (HR = 2.14, 95 % CI: 1.47-3.12). Background: Cadonilimab is a bispecific antibody targeting PD-1 and CTLA-4, which has shown substantial clinical benefits in advanced cervical cancer. In the COMPASSION-16 trial, we aimed to evaluate the addition of cadonilimab to first-line standard chemotherapy in persistent, recurrent, or metastatic cervical cancer., Methods: In this randomised, double-blind, multicentre, placebo-controlled phase 3 trial, women aged 18-75 years across 59 clinical sites in China with previously untreated persistent, recurrent, or metastatic cervical cancer were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive cadonilimab (10 mg/kg) or placebo plus platinum-based chemotherapy with or without bevacizumab every 3 weeks for six cycles, followed by maintenance therapy every 3 weeks for up to 2 years. Randomisation was performed centrally through an interactive web-response system. Stratification factors were the use of bevacizumab (yes or no) and previous concurrent chemoradiotherapy (yes or no). The dual primary outcomes were progression-free survival as assessed by blinded independent central review and overall survival in the full analysis set. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04982237; the study has completed enrolment and is ongoing for treatment and follow-up., Findings: 445 eligible women were enrolled between Sept 11, 2021, and June 23, 2022. Median progression-free survival was 12·7 months (95% CI 11·6-16·1) in the cadonilimab group and 8·1 months (7·7-9·6) in the placebo group (hazard ratio 0·62 [95% CI 0·49-0·80], p<0·0001); median overall survival was not reached (27·0 months to not estimable) versus 22·8 months (17·6-29·0), respectively (hazard ratio 0·64 [0·48-0·86], p=0·0011). An overload of labile organic matter triggers the water blackening and odorization in urban rivers, leading to a unique microbiome driving biogeochemical cycles in these anoxic habitats. Among the key players in these environments, cable bacteria interfere directly with C/N/S/O cycling, and are closely associated with phylogenetically diverse microorganisms in anoxic sediment as an electron conduit to mediate long-distance electron transport from deep-anoxic-layer sulfide to oxic-layer oxygen. Despite their hypothesized importance in black-odorous urban rivers, the spatial distribution patterns and roles of cable bacteria in large-scale polluted urban rivers remain inadequately understood. This study examined the diversity and spatial distribution pattern of cable bacteria in sediment samples from 186 black-odorous urban rivers across China. Results revealed the co-existence of two well-characterized cable bacteria (i.e., Candidatus Electrothrix and Candidatus Electronema), with Candidatus Electrothrix exhibiting a comparatively wider distribution in the polluted urban rivers. Concentrations of DOC, SS, sulfate, nitrate, and heavy metals (e.g., Ni and Cr) were correlated with the cable bacteria diversity, indicating their essential role in biogeochemical cycles. The activation energy of cable bacteria was 0.624 eV, close to the canonical 0.65 eV. Furthermore, cable bacteria were identified as key connectors and module hubs, closely associated with denitrifiers, sulfate-reducing bacteria, methanogens and alkane degraders, highlighting their role as keystone functional lineages in the contaminated urban rivers. Background: The integration of Virtual Reality (VR) with Case-Based Learning (CBL) has the potential to revolutionise undergraduate medical education, particularly in complex subjects such as the anatomy and rehabilitation of the shoulder joint. This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of this innovative approach in enhancing learning outcomes and knowledge retention., Methods: This study employed a parallel-group, assessor-blinded randomised controlled trial (RCT) design. A comprehensive five-week educational programme was developed, combining traditional lecture-based learning with VR-enhanced CBL. The study involved 82 undergraduate students from China Medical University, who were divided into groups receiving different combinations of VR and CBL. Student performance was evaluated through tests and questionnaires., Results: In the anatomy-related courses, the integration of VR technology with CBL yielded significantly higher results (87.71 ± 5.60) compared to traditional methods (82.59 ± 6.64), with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). This provides compelling evidence of VR's potential to enhance student engagement and knowledge retention. In the context of physiotherapy-related courses, however, while the test scores of the VR-combined CBL group (81.85 ± 5.99) were marginally higher than those of the traditional CBL group (79.02 ± 7.57), this difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05)., Conclusion: The present study provides preliminary evidence for the benefits of incorporating VR into medical education, particularly in anatomy. Frailty is a state that is closely associated with adverse health outcomes in the aging process. The frailty index (FI), which measures frailty in terms of cumulative deficits, has been widely used for frailty assessment in elderly people, and its advantage of self-reported information collection makes it applicable to a broader group of elderly people. Our study aims to simplify the Frailty Index Assessment Scale, while maintaining its reliability and accuracy, to easily and quickly assess frailty in elderly people. In this study, participants (age ≥ 65 years) from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), which had 13,339, 372 and 1214 participants in 2008, 2011, and 2014, respectively, were used. The 2008 dataset was split into 80% for training and 20% for internal validation, and the data from 2011 to 2014 as external validation. In order to obtain effective predictors, we used Lasso regression, Boruta algorithm and random forest classifier score for feature selection. We used six models for predictive model construction and evaluated the models in the validation dataset. Model performance was measured by area under the curve (AUC), accuracy and F1 score. Logistic regression was found to be the best performing and most interpretable algorithm with AUC, accuracy and F1 of 0.974, 0.932 and 0.880 for the validation dataset, respectively. The AUCs for the external independent validation dataset were 0.963 and 0.977, respectively. Subgroup analysis showed that the model had good predictive power in both males and females. The predictive power was stronger among the elderly people over 80 years old, with AUC, accuracy and F1 of 0.973,0.914, and 0.893, respectively. The model also obtained good predictive power in the case of FI measured by different indicators. The model showed good robustness in the follow-up assessment of frailty status in elderly people, with the AUC remaining above 0.95 and accuracy above 0.9 over the long-term follow-up. Using machine learning techniques, we have successfully developed a simple frailty assessment prediction model based on 10 key features to shorten the frailty assessment scale with near full-scale accuracy. Unsustainable wildlife consumption and illegal wildlife trade (IWT) threaten biodiversity worldwide. Although publicly accessible data sets are increasingly used to generate insights into IWT, little is known about their potential bias. We compared three typical and temporally corresponding data sets (4204 court verdicts, 926 seizure news reports, and 219 bird market surveys) on traded birds native to China and evaluated their possible species biases. Specifically, we evaluated bias and completeness of sampling for species richness, phylogeny, conservation status, spatial distribution, and life-history characteristics among the three data sets when determining patterns of illegal trade. Court verdicts contained the largest species richness. In bird market surveys and seizure news reports, phylogenetic clustering was greater than that in court verdicts, where songbird species (i.e., Passeriformes) were detected in higher proportions in market surveys. The seizure news data set contained the highest proportion of species of high conservation priority but the lowest species coverage. Across the country, all data sets consistently reported relatively high species richness in south and southwest regions, but markets revealed a northern geographic bias. The species composition in court verdicts and markets also exhibited distinct geographical patterns. There was significant ecological trait bias when we modeled whether a bird species is traded in the market. Our regression model suggested that species with small body masses, large geographical ranges, and a preference for anthropogenic habitats and those that are not nationally protected were more likely to be traded illegally. Objective: To explore the relationship between changes in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) during the second and third trimesters and adverse pregnancy outcomes among women without hyperglycemia in pregnancy (HIP)., Research Design and Methods: A total of 1,057 pregnant women who underwent serum HbA1c and delivered at Women's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine from May 2022 to March 2023, were included in this study. They were divided into four groups. Associations were evaluated using multivariate logistic regression analysis., Results: In our study, an upward trend in HbA1c levels in the second trimester (HbA1c&#95;S) and third trimester (HbA1c&#95;T) among women without HIP was demonstrated. Multivariate logistics regression analysis showed significant associations: Pregnant women with HbA1c&#95;S<5.5 %, HbA1c&#95;T≥6.1 %, or with HbA1c&#95;S≥5.5 %, HbA1c&#95;T<6.1 % had a significant correlation with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) (aOR:2.72, 95 %CI=1.24-5.97；aOR:2.59, 95 %CI=1.15-5.84). Background: Growing evidence suggests that elective induction of labor at 39 weeks' gestation may lead to more favorable perinatal outcomes than expectant management, however, how to weigh the pros and cons of elective labor induction at 39 weeks, the expectation of spontaneous delivery at 40 or 41 weeks, or delayed labor induction at 40 or 41 weeks on neonatal and maternal outcomes remains a practical challenge in clinical decision-making., Objective: We compared the neonatal and maternal outcomes between elective induction of labor at 39 weeks' gestation and expectant management in a real-world setting. We also divided the expectantly managed group and compared outcomes of the spontaneous delivery at 40 or 41 weeks' gestation group and the induced group at 40 or 41 weeks' gestation with those of the elective induction at 39 weeks' gestation group., Study Design: This retrospective cohort study included 21,282 participants who delivered between January 1, 2019, and June 30, 2022. Participants were initially categorized into 3 groups at 39 weeks' gestation, namely elective induction of labor, spontaneous delivery, and expectant management, for the primary analysis in which elective induction was compared with expectant management. Subsequently, the expectant management group at 39 weeks' gestation was divided into 3 groups at 40 weeks, and participants who underwent expectant management at 40 weeks were then divided into 2 groups at 41 weeks' gestation, namely elective induction and spontaneous delivery. In total, 6 groups were compared in the secondary analysis with the elective induction at 39 weeks' gestation group serving as the reference group., Results: At 39 weeks' gestational age, participants who underwent elective induction of labor had a significantly lower risk for the primary composite outcomes than participants who were managed expectantly (adjusted odds ratio, 0.72; 95% confidence interval, 0.55-0.95), and there was no significant difference in the risk for cesarean delivery between the 2 groups. After further dividing the expectantly managed group and comparing them with participants who underwent elective induction of labor at 39 weeks' gestation, those who underwent spontaneous delivery at 40 weeks' gestation had significantly lower risks for cesarean delivery (0.61; 0.52-0.71) and chorioamnionitis (0.78; 0.61-1.00) but a higher risk for fetal distress (1.39; 1.22-1.57); those with spontaneous delivery at 41 weeks' gestation had a significantly higher risk for fetal distress (1.44; 1.16-1.79), postpartum hemorrhage (1.83; 1.26-2.66), and prolonged or arrested labor (1.61; 1.02-2.54). Moreover, when compared with participants who underwent elective induction of labor at 39 weeks' gestation, participants who were induced later in gestation had significantly higher risks for adverse neonatal and maternal outcomes, especially at 40 weeks' gestation., Conclusion: Our findings indicate that elective induction of labor at 39 weeks' gestation was significantly associated with lower risks for adverse short-term neonatal and maternal outcomes when compared with expectant management. Competency-based teasing has been identified as a risk factor for children's depressive symptoms. However, the specific psychological mechanisms mediating this relationship are not well understood, especially in the context of Chinese culture. This study examined the relationship between competency-based teasing, subsequent depressive symptoms, and the possible mediating role of positivity in Chinese children by using parallel process latent growth curve modelling. Gender differences were also explored. A sample of 4376 Chinese children (55.1% boys; age: M = 9.98 years, SD = 0.88) completed measurements of the relevant constructs on five occasions across 2 years, using half-year intervals. The findings revealed that competency-based teasing was significantly positively associated with subsequent depressive symptoms in Chinese children. Furthermore, positivity mediated this relationship in girls, but not in boys. Background: Tuberculosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are significant public health challenges, with pulmonary tuberculosis recognized as a pivotal risk factor for the development of COPD. Tuberculosis-associated COPD is increasingly recognized as a distinct phenotype of COPD that potentially exhibits unique clinical features. A thorough understanding of the precise definition, clinical manifestations, prognosis, and most effective pharmacological strategies for tuberculosis-associated COPD warrants further investigation., Methods: This prospective, observational cohort study aims to enroll over 135 patients with tuberculosis-associated COPD and 405 patients with non-tuberculosis-associated COPD, across seven tertiary hospitals in mainland China. The diagnosis of tuberculosis-associated COPD will be established based on the following criteria: (1) history of pulmonary tuberculosis with standard antituberculosis treatment; (2) suspected pulmonary tuberculosis with radiological evidence indicative of tuberculosis sequelae; (3) no definitive history of pulmonary tuberculosis but with positive interferon-gamma release assay results and radiological signs suggestive of tuberculosis. At baseline, demographic information, medical history, respiratory questionnaires, complete blood count, interferon-gamma release assays, medications, spirometry, and chest computed tomography (CT) scans will be recorded. Participants will be followed for one year, with evaluations at six-month intervals to track the longitudinal changes in symptoms, treatment, lung function, and frequencies of COPD exacerbations and hospitalizations. Objectives: This study aims to investigate the contribution of the double-track human resource management model to the job performance and mental health of frontline police within China's public security organs., Methodology: An individual-centered approach, latent profile analysis (LPA), was utilized in this study, which used cluster sampling to survey all police of all 118 frontline police stations in an economically underdeveloped area of China and 839 personnel were selected for the analysis. This method allowed for a detailed examination of the contribution of the double-track system to job performance and mental health., Findings and Conclusion: The study identified three subtypes of job burnout among Chinese police: low job burnout, medium job burnout, and emotional exhaustion type. Objectives: We aim to investigate the prevalence of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and human metapneumovirus (hMPV) among pediatric patients with acute respiratory tract illness (ARTI) in southern China both pre- and post-COVID-19 pandemic, as well as identify associated risk factors for severe infections., Methods: The study conducted a real-time PCR analysis on hospitalized children with ARTI from 2012 to 2023, specifically targeting RSV, hMPV, and other respiratory pathogens. Additionally, demographic data was collected during this analysis., Results: The prevalence of RSV occurs triennially, and likewise, the temporal pattern of hMPV outbreaks mirrors that of RSV. The peak infection rates of RSV and hMPV occurred during and following the implementation of COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control measures. The incidence of RSV infection exhibited bimodal peaks in 2022, while hMPV demonstrated seasonal peaks during the spring, fall, and winter periods post-COVID-19 pandemic. After the COVID-19 outbreak, there has been an upward trend in the proportion of female patients and patients aged one year and older presenting with ARTI, RSV infections, and hMPV infections. Infant (OR = 4.767, 95%CI: [3.888-5.846], p < 0.0001), presence of co-infection (OR = 0.540, 95%CI: [0.404-0.722], p < 0.0001), and existence of comorbidities (OR = 1.582, 95%CI: [1.285-1.949], p < 0.0001) was the risk ratio for the severity of RSV infection. Children infected with hMPV under the age of 1 year (OR = 0.322, 95%CI: [0.180 - 0.575], p < 0.0001), as well as those with comorbidities (OR = 8.809, 95%CI: [4.493 - 17.272], p < 0.0001), have a higher risk of developing severe illness., Conclusion: The changing epidemiological patterns have the potential to lead to widespread severe outbreaks among children, particularly those with underlying medical conditions who may experience more severe symptoms. Background: The study aims to investigate the long-term impact of lifestyle-related factors and physical health on life satisfaction and depressive symptoms among Chinese community-dwelling older adults., Methods: Using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), the analytic sample of this study included 1,068 older adults who had participated in the surveys in both 2011 and 2018. Multivariate regression was employed to analyze both cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships between lifestyle-related factors, physical health, and subjective well-being - specifically depressive symptoms and life satisfaction. Additionally, the model tested how these factors correlate with life satisfaction across different groups of depressive symptom changes among older adults, categorized as not at risk of depression, intermittent depression, and chronic depression., Results: Multimorbidity was significantly related to baseline and follow-up depressive risk in older adults. Shorter sleep duration was associated with baseline depression risk. Current alcohol drinkers reported significantly more severe depressive symptoms than non-drinkers. At baseline, current smokers were more likely to have a lower degree of life satisfaction than nonsmokers. Among older adults with chronic depression at the 7-year follow-up, former smokers tended to have lower life satisfaction than nonsmokers., Conclusions: Our findings identified drinking alcohol and having a shorter sleep duration as modifiable lifestyle-related risk factors for late-life depression and smoking as a detrimental factor for life satisfaction in older Chinese adults. Multimorbidity was a significant predictor of more depressive symptoms. Our findings have implications for future psychosocial interventions that target the alleviation of depressive symptoms and the promotion of life satisfaction in older Chinese people based on their different long-term mental and physical health conditions.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the incidence of and potential risk factors for adverse drug reactions (ADRs) after non-ionic iodinated contrast media (NICM) administration for CT exams in out-patient settings in China., Materials and Methods: A total of 473,482 out-patients who underwent intravenous NICM between January 1st, 2017, and Dec 31st, 2021, were retrospectively enrolled from three institutions. The occurrence of ADRs and clinical information were recorded. Chi-square test, Poisson regression, and logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate potential ADR risk factors and correlation with demographics, season, and NICM type., Results: Among the 473,482 patients (mean age 55.22 ± 14.85; 253,499 male) who received intravenous NICM, the overall ADR incidence was 0.110% (522 of 473,482), with 0.099% acute-related drug reactions (469 of 473,482) and 0.0004% serious ADRs (two of 473,482). Iopromide was associated with a higher risk of acute ADRs. Late ADRs were more frequently observed with iodixanol 320. Multi-level logistic regression of patients with acute ADRs and a control group (matched 1:1 for age, gender, NICM, prescriber department, and institution) showed that summer (adjusted OR = 1.579; p = 0.035) and autumn (adjusted OR = 1.925; p < 0.001) were risk factors of acute ADRs. However, underlying disease and scanned body area were not related to a higher ADR incidence., Conclusion: The use of NICM for out-patients is in general safe with a low ADR incidence. The type of contrast medium (iopromide) and the seasons (summer and autumn) were associated with a higher risk of acute ADRs. Late ADRs were more often observed with iodixanol., Clinical Relevance Statement: In comparison to in-patients, out-patients may be exposed to higher risk due to a lack of extensive risk screening, less nursing care, and higher throughput pressure. Introduction: Older adults with multimorbidity are at high risk of cognitive impairment development. There is a lack of research on the associations between different multimorbidity measures and cognitive function among older Chinese adults living in the community., Methods: We used the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey from 2002 to 2018 and included data on dementia-free participants aged ≥65 years. Multimorbidity measures included condition counts, multimorbidity patterns, and trajectories. The association of multimorbidity measures with cognitive function was examined by generalized estimating equation and linear and logistic regression models., Results: Among 14,093 participants at baseline, 43.2% had multimorbidity. Multimorbidity patterns were grouped into cancer-inflammatory, cardiometabolic, and sensory patterns. Multimorbidity trajectories were classified as "onset-condition," "newly developing," and "severe condition." The Mini-Mental State Examination scores were significantly lower for participants with more chronic conditions, with cancer-inflammatory/cardiometabolic/sensory patterns, and with developing multimorbidity trajectories., Discussion: Condition counts, sensory pattern, cardiometabolic pattern, cancer-inflammatory pattern, and multimorbidity developmental trajectories were prospectively associated with cognitive function., Highlights: Elderly individuals with a higher number of chronic conditions were associated with lower MMSE scores in the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey data. In this study, we conducted an analysis of the heavy metal concentrations, health risk assessment, fraction and source interpretation in surface and core sediments from main stream of the Pearl River and Pearl River Estuary (RRE) area. Results showed that the higher deposited heavy metal concentrations in sediments occur at the Pearl River. The concentrations of heavy metals in surface sediments from the studied locations are in a descending order: Zn > Cr > Cu > Ni > Pb > Cd. Regarding chemical fractions, Cd showed the highest proportion of acid soluble fraction (F1) among all studied heavy metals. The high mobility of Cd poses a significant threat to water bodies and the surrounding environment. The potential ecological risk index (RI) showed the Pearl River sediments exhibited significantly higher values than the estuary sediments. Cd was found to be the primary contributor to potential ecological risk, accounting for 74% of RI. The health risk assessment showed the total hazard index (HI) for child was exceeded 1 mainly driven by Zn, indicating that the child population was at risk of non-carcinogenic effects. Besides, unacceptable carcinogenic risk in both Pearl River and estuary area were observed for children. The positive matrix factorization (PMF) model was used to ascertain sources of six heavy metals and apportion their contributions in sediments. The increasing incidence of diseases caused by Coxsackievirus A6 (CV-A6) and the presence of various mutants in the population present significant public health challenges. Given the concurrent development of multiple vaccines in China, it is challenging to objectively and accurately evaluate the level of neutralizing antibody response to different vaccines. The choice of the detection strain is a crucial factor that influences the detection of neutralizing antibodies. In this study, the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control collected a prototype strain (Gdula), one subgenotype D1, as well as 13 CV-A6 candidate vaccine strains and candidate detection strains (subgenotype D3) from various institutions and manufacturers involved in research and development. We evaluated cross-neutralization activity using plasma from naturally infected adults ( n  = 30) and serum from rats immunized with the aforementioned CV-A6 strains. Although there were differences between the geometric mean titer (GMT) ranges of human plasma and murine sera, the overall trends were similar. A significant effect of each strain on the neutralizing antibody test (MAX/MIN 48.0 ∼16410.3) was observed. Among all strains, neutralization of the S112 strain by 15 different sera resulted in higher neutralizing antibody titers (GMT S112  = 132.0) and more consistent responses across different genotypic immune sera (MAX/MIN = 48.0). Therefore, S112 may serve as a detection strain for NtAb testing in various vaccines, minimizing bias and making it suitable for evaluating the immunogenicity of the CV-A6 vaccine.

In order to mitigate the risk of excessive heavy metal intake, a study was conducted to assess the levels of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), and lead (Pb) contamination in 23 edible seafood species obtained from markets in Haikou. The findings were analyzed to evaluate the potential health hazards posed to the local population through consumption. The metals were detected via inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for quantification. The non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic health risks in humans were assessed via target hazard quotient (THQ), combined target hazard quotient (CTHQ), and target cancer risk (TR). The results indicated that the rank order based on the median metal concentration was As > Cd > Cr > Pb. THQ and CTHQ showed that nine seafood species posed a non-carcinogenic risk regarding from As and Cd consumption separately, or the four targeted metals ingestion together. TR assessment indicated that the InAs in all the species presented a carcinogenic risk to coastal residents. The Cd content in bivalves, algae, and several crustacean (Mantis Shrimp, Orchid Crab, Red spot Swimming Crab) and fish species (Japanese Scad, Pacific Saury), and Cr levels in most bivalve species (Razor Clams, White Clams, Fan Shells, Oysters, Blood Clams) presented a carcinogenic risk. The As, Cd, Pb, and Cr levels of seafood in Haikou were assessed species presented a potential health risk. Objectives: This article studied the single-factor causal relationships between the social environment, health cognition, and health behavior of the individuals with non-fixed employment and their adverse health outcomes, as well as the complex causal relationships of multiple factors on these outcomes., Methods: Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) and Fuzzy-Set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) are employed. Data is collected from the results of an open questionnaire Psychology and Behavior Investigation of Chinese Residents 2021., Results: PLS-SEM analysis reveals that health risk behaviors and cognition play a mediating role in impact of the social environment on adverse health outcomes, indicating that individuals with non-fixed employment susceptible to adverse health outcomes. fsQCA analysis identifies that weak social support is a core condition leading to outcomes of depression and anxiety. This investigation aimed to explore the relationship between Chinese elite wrestlers and the polymorphic loci of explosive strength genes, and to further explore the feasibility of its application to athlete selection. The snapshot technique was used to resolve the polymorphic loci of explosive power genes in the wrestler group (59 elite wrestlers) and the control group (180 ordinary college students), and to analyze the genotype frequencies and allele frequencies of each group. A chi-square test was performed on the genotype and allele distribution data of each group to analyze the loci of explosive power genes that were associated with elite wrestlers. The loci that had an association with elite wrestlers were combined with the genotyping data, and the dominance ratios of the genotypes were calculated using the chi-square test to determine the dominant genotypes associated with elite wrestlers. The VDR gene rs2228570 locus exhibited statistically significant differences in genotype and allele distributions between elite wrestlers and the general population ( p < 0.01). At the rs2228570 locus of the VDR gene, the difference between the CC genotype and other genotypes was statistically significant ( p < 0.05). The rs2228570 locus of the VDR gene was identified as the locus associated with Chinese elite wrestlers. The polymorphism of the VDR gene can be used as a biomarker for Chinese wrestlers, and the CC genotype can be used as a molecular marker for the selection of Chinese elite athletes in this sport. However, expanding the sample size of elite athletes is necessary to further validate the scientific validity and feasibility of these findings.

Objectives: Comprehensive data using Next-Generation Sequence (NGS) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for detecting MET amplification is limited in Chinese patients, we evaluating NGS performance both in tissue and plasma samples using FISH as reference. We also sought to find optimal thresholds value for NGS in detecting MET amplification via bioinformatics methods., Method: Patients progressed after 1st-, 2nd-, or 3rd-generation (G) EGFR-TKIs were enrolled. Tissue biopsy samples were performed for MET amplification detection via both NGS and FISH. Paired plasma samples were collected for MET amplification detection by NGS. The sensitivity, specificity and agreement were analyzed between NGS and FISH., Results: 116 eligible patients were analyzed. 44 patients were male. 82 patients were after 3rd generation EGFR-TKI. MET amplification was detected in 43 (37.1 %) patients by FISH, including 19 (16.4 %) polysomy and 24 (20.7 %) focal amplification. The positive rate of MET amplification in post 3rd generation EGFR-TKI and post 1st/2ndgeneration EGFR-TKI resistant patients was 42.7 % (35/82), and 23.5 % (8/34). The sensitivity, specificity and agreement of detecting MET amplification by NGS in tissue were 39.5 % (17/43), 98.6 % (72/73) and 76.7 % (89/116), respectively, 66.7 % (16/24), 98.6 % (72/73) and 90.7 % (88/97) for focal MET amplification in tissue and 29.2 % (7/24), 94.5 % (69/73), 78.4 % (76/97) for focal amplification in plasma. Results were shown in the table below., Conclusion: NGS is an alternative method for MET focal amplification detection in tissue. Bioaerosols are more likely to accumulate in the residential environment, and long-term inhalation may lead to a variety of diseases and allergies. Here, we studied the distribution, influencing factors and diffusion characteristics of indoor and outdoor microbiota pollution in six residential buildings in Guangzhou, southern China over a period of one year. The results showed that the particle sizes of bioaerosol were mainly in the range of inhalable particle size (<4.7 μm) with a small difference among four seasons (74.61 % ± 2.17 %). The microbial communities showed obvious seasonal differences with high abundance in summer, but no obvious geographical differences. Among them, the bacteria were more abundant than the fungi. The dominant microbes in indoor and outdoor environments were similar, with Anoxybacillu, Brevibacillus and Acinetobacter as the dominant bacteria, and Cladosporium, Penicillium and Alternaria as the dominant fungi. The airborne microbiomes were more sensitive to temperature and particulate matter (PM 2.5 , PM 10 ) concentrations. Based on the Sloan neutral model, bacteria were more prone to random diffusion than fungi, and the airborne microbiome can be randomly distributed in indoor and outdoor environments and between the two environments in each season. Bioaerosol in indoor was mainly from outdoor. The health risk evaluation showed that the indoor inhalation risks were higher than those outdoor. The air purifier had a better removal efficiency on 1.1-4.7 μm microorganisms, and the removal efficiency on Gram-negative bacteria was better than that on Gram-positive bacteria. As a model organism for space biology experiments, Caenorhabditis elegans ( C. elegans ) has low demand for life support and strong resistance to unfavorable environments, making experimentation with C. elegans relatively easy and cost-effective. Previously, C. elegans has been flown in several spaceflight investigations, but there is still an urgent need for analytical platforms enabling on-orbit automated monitoring of multiple phenotypes of worms, such as growth and development, movement, changes of biomarkers, etc. To solve this problem, we presented a fully integrated microfluidic system (WormSpace μ-TAS ) with an arrayed microfluidic chip (WormChip-4.8.1) and a replaceable microfluidic module (WormChip cartridge), which was compatible with the experimental facility on the China Space Station (CSS). By adopting technologies of programmed fluid control based on liquid medium CeMM as well as multi-function imaging with a camera mounted on a three-dimensional (3D) transportation stage, automated and long-term experimentation can be performed for on-chip multi-strain culturing and bright-field and fluorescence imaging of C. elegans at the single-worm level. The presented WormSpace μ-TAS enabled its successful application on the CSS, achieving flight launch of the sample unit (WormChip cartridge) at low temperature (controlled by a passive thermal case at 12 °C), automated 30-day cultivation of 4 strains of C. elegans , on-orbit monitoring of multiple phenotypes (growth and development, movement, and changes of fluorescent protein expression) at the single worm-level, on-chip fixation of animals at the end of the experiment and returning the fixed samples to earth. In summary, this study presented a verified microfluidic system and experimental protocols for automated on-chip multi-strain culturing and multi-function imaging of C. elegans at the single-worm level on the CSS. The WormSpace μ-TAS will provide a novel experimental platform for the study of biological effects of space radiation and microgravity, and for the development of protective drugs.

Bioaerosols are widely distributed in urban air and can be transmitted across the atmosphere, biosphere, and anthroposphere, resulting in infectious diseases. Automobile air conditioning (AAC) filters can trap airborne microbes. In this study, AAC filters were used to investigate the abundance and pathogenicity of airborne microorganisms in typical Chinese and European cities. Culturable bacteria and fungi concentrations were determined using microbial culturing. High-throughput sequencing was employed to analyze microbial community structures. The levels of culturable bioaerosols in Chinese and European cities exhibited disparities (Analysis of Variance, P < 0.01). The most dominant pathogenic bacteria and fungi were similar in Chinese (Mycobacterium: 18.2-18.9 %; Cladosporium: 23.0-30.2 %) and European cities (Mycobacterium: 15.4-37.7 %; Cladosporium: 18.1-29.3 %). Bartonella, Bordetella, Alternaria, and Aspergillus were also widely identified. BugBase analysis showed that microbiomes in China exhibited higher abundances of mobile genetic elements (MGEs) and biofilm formation capacity than those in Europe, indicating higher health risks. Through co-occurrence network analysis, heavy metals such as zinc were found to correlate with microorganism abundance; most bacteria were inversely associated, while fungi exhibited greater tolerance, indicating that heavy metals affect the growth and reproduction of bioaerosol microorganisms. Background/purposes: The continuously increasing carbapenem resistance within Enterobacterales and Pseudomonas poses a threat to public health, nevertheless, the molecular characteristics of which in southern China still remain limited. And carbapenemase identification is a key factor in effective early therapy of carbapenem-resistant bacteria infections. We aimed to determine the molecular characteristics of these pathogens and compare commercial combined disc tests (CDTs) with the modified carbapenem inactivation method (mCIM) and EDTA-CIM (eCIM) in detecting and distinguishing carbapenemases using whole genome sequencing (WGS)., Methods: A total of 78 Enterobacterales , 30 Pseudomonas were obtained from two tertiary hospitals in southern China. Susceptibility tests were conducted using an automated VITEK2 compact system with confirmation via the Kirby-Bauer method. The WGS was conducted on all clinical isolates and the molecular characteristics were analyzed by screening the whole genome sequences. CDTs with or without cloxacillin, mCIM, and eCIM, were performed and compared by taking WGS results as the benchmark., Results: A total of 103 carbapenem non-susceptible and 5 carbapenem susceptible bacteria were determined, with Klebsiella pneumoniae (42.7%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (23.3%) and Escherichia coli (18.4%) being most prevalent. Carbapenemase genes were detected in 58 (56.3%) of the 103 carbapenem-non-susceptible clinical isolates, including 46 NDM, 6 KPC, 3 IMP, 1 IPM+VIM,1NDM+KPC, and 1 OXA-181. Carbapenemase-producing isolates were detected more frequently in Enterobacterales (76.3%). Among K. pneumoniae , the major sequence types were st307 and st11, while among E. coli and P. aeruginosa , the most prevalent ones were st410 and st242 respectively. For carbapenemase detection in Enterobacterales , the mCIM method achieved 100.00% (95% CI, 92.13-100.00%) sensitivity and 94.44% (70.63-99.71%) specificity (kappa, 0.96); for Pseudomonas , detection sensitivity was 100% (5.46-100.00%), and 100% (84.50-100.00%) specificity (kappa, 0.65). Commercial CDT carbapenemase detection sensitivity for Enterobacterales was 96.49% (86.84-99.39%), and 95.24% (74.13-99.75%) specificity (kappa, 0.90); for Pseudomonas , carbapenemase detection sensitivity was 100.00% (5.46-100.00%) and 37.93% (21.30-57.64%) specificity (kappa, 0.04). When cloxacillin testing was added, CDT specificity reached 84.61% (64.27-94.95%)., Conclusion: The molecular epidemiology of carbapenem-non-susceptible isolates from pediatric patients in Southern China exhibited distinctive characteristics. The physical and chemical characteristics of fly ash has changed significantly under ultra-low emission system and the current leaching system is no longer suitable for high alkalinity fly ash. This work investigated the pH values and evolution of physical and chemical characteristics of fly ash from 24 typical municipal solid waste incineration plants in China. The pH value of the leaching solution obtained by HJ/T 300-2007 presented two different acid and alkali characteristics, where high and low alkalinity fly ash accounted for 54.17% and 45.83%, respectively. The alkali content in fly ash increased significantly after ultra-low emission standard, increasing by 18.24% compared with before the implementation of GB 18485-2014. The leaching behavior of high alkalinity fly ash showed the illusion that they could enter the landfill only by the addition of a small amount of chelating agent or even without stabilization treatment, and its long-term landfill risk is significant. The phase change of high alkalinity fly ash and pH value change of the leaching solution after carbonation were the key factors for the leaching concentration change of heavy metals. In the study, 512 high school students from China were followed three times over a two-year period using a follow-up study design. Based on the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions, a cross-lagged model was developed to investigate the bidirectional relationship between gratitude and depression/anxiety. The results showed that gratitude was significantly negatively correlated with depression and anxiety. However, gratitude did not significantly negatively predict depression and anxiety in the cross-lag analysis, while depression and anxiety did significantly negatively predict gratitude. Based on the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions, this study breaks the direct promoting effect of gratitude on promoting mental health in traditional cognition, and reveals the one-way predicting relationship between depression and anxiety, two typical adverse psychological emotions, on gratitude, which has important theoretical and practical significance for understanding the development of social emotions in adolescents from the perspective of mental health.
