While earthquakes are considered one of the most prevalent natural disasters in China, there is limited empirical evidence regarding the long-term effects of earthquakes on energy poverty. Using data from China Family Panel Studies and China's historical earthquake catalog, this study investigates the long-term effects of earthquake intensity on energy poverty among households in China, and analyzes the long-term effects over different time spans. Our findings indicate that, higher earthquake intensities have an overall worsening long-term impact on energy poverty. When segmented into different time spans, households in regions with higher earthquake intensities are less likely to fall into energy poverty over the past 20 years and the past 20 to 50 years, whereas more likely to be energy poor over the longer time span. Moreover, we uncover that public infrastructure, government assistance, and mental well-being serve as channels through which earthquakes affect household energy poverty, with divergent effects over different time spans. In addition, we observe nonlinear evidence of earthquake intensity's long-term impact on energy poverty, and the long-term impacts are heterogeneous across different regions, as well as households with different registration statuses and household fuel types. Trade liberalization for environmental goods (EG) could pave the way for a "win‐win" scenario for both the economy and the environment. This study examines the impact of environmental good exports on the comprehensive economic development and environmental protection index, green total factor productivity (GTFP), using a Chinese city‐level panel dataset from 2003 to 2015. Overall, our findings indicate that EG exports are detrimental to China's green development. Particularly, traditional EGs intended to address environmental concerns significantly impede GTFP, whereas environmentally preferable products with cleaner product life cycles have no such effect. Furthermore, EG exports do not significantly reduce conventional TFP without accounting for energy and pollution, implying that the loss of GTFP is primarily due to environmental factors. When GTFP is disaggregated into green efficiency change (GEC) and green technology change (GTC), EG exports can increase GEC while reducing GTC. However, once the value of EG exports surpasses a certain threshold, EG exports raise GTC and GTFP. Furthermore, regional resource misallocation, environmental regulation, and absorptive capacity can all help to mitigate the negative EG‐GTFP relationship. Objective: To explore the clinical value of echocardiography in the assessment of left ventricular diastolic function in patients with acute pulmonary embolism (APE). Methods: APE patients in our hospital from June 2019 to June 2021 were selected as the observation group. They were divided into low-risk group (19 cases), medium-risk group (16 cases) and high-risk group (15 cases). The non-APE people in our hospital during the same period were selected as the control group. All subjects underwent echocardiography to observe the performance of APE patients under echocardiography. The peak velocity ratio S-wave/D-wave (S/D), early diastolic annular velocity/advanced diastolic annular velocity (Ea/Aa), early filling/early diastolic annular velocity (E/Ea), and early filling/early diastolic annular velocity (E/Ea) were compared with Ar and Vp, respectively; receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the value of echocardiography in evaluating left ventricular diastolic function in patients with APE. Results: Echocardiography show different manifestations of APE patients. Compared with the control group, S/D, Ea/Aa, and Vp in the observation group were significantly decreased and E/Ea and Ar in the observation group were significantly increased (p < 0.05). With the increase of risk stratification, S/D, Ea/Aa, and Vp gradually decreased, E/Ea and Ar gradually increased, and the difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05). The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, area under curve (AUC), and 95% CI were 89.52%, 65.57%, 72.86%, 80.82%, 75.38%, 0.730, and 0.629–0.831, respectively. Conclusion: Echocardiography can effectively evaluate left ventricular diastolic function in patients with APE, and there are significant differences in left ventricular diastolic function in different risk stratification, which has important reference value for clinical diagnosis and treatment of APE. This study investigates the impacts of the high-tech enterprise certification policy on corporate innovation in China, by analyzing a unique dataset of listed companies and their affiliates from 2006 to 2015. We exclude firms certified after year 2009 from the sample, because they may have engaged in R&D manipulation. The findings show that the high-tech enterprise certification can promote corporate innovation in China, especially the innovation captured by invention patents and the intensity of policy matters. The study also concludes that the high-tech enterprise certification can influence enterprise innovation through 'physical' and 'tacit' channels. Heterogeneity analysis indicates that private enterprises, enterprises in more competitive industries, and equity-inspired enterprises benefit most from high-tech enterprise certification. Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) have properties that make them promising for the treatment of chronic nonhealing wounds. The major challenge is ensuring an efficient, safe, and painless delivery of BMMSCs. Tissue-engineered skin substitutes have considerable benefits in skin damage resulting from chronic nonhealing wounds. Here, we have constructed a three-dimensional biomimetic scaffold known as collagen-chitosan sponge scaffolds (CCSS) using the cross-linking and freeze-drying method. Scanning electron microscopy images showed that CCSS had an interconnected network pore configuration about 100 μm and exhibited a suitable swelling ratio for maintaining morphological stability and appropriate biodegradability to improve biostability using swelling and degradation assays. Furthermore, BM-MSCs were seeded in CCSS using the two-step seeding method to construct tissueengineered skin substitutes. In addition, in this three-dimensional biomimetic CCSS, BM-MSCs secreted their own collagen and maintain favorable survival ability and viability. Importantly, BM-MSCs exhibited a significant upregulated expression of proangiogenesis factors, including HIF-1α, VEGF, and PDGF following hypoxia pretreatment. In vivo, hypoxia pretreatment of the skin substitute observably accelerated wound closure via the reduction of inflammation and enhanced angiogenesis in diabetic rats with hindlimb ischemia. Thus, hypoxia pretreatment of the skin substitutes can serve as ideal bioengineering skin substitutes to promote optimal diabetic skin wound healing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Context: Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) is the most commonly used filling material when performing percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) for the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. However, there are some inherent and unavoidable drawbacks with the clinical use of PMMA. PMMA bone cement tends to leak during injection, which can lead to injury of the spinal nerves and spinal cord. Moreover, the mechanical strength of PMMA-augmented vertebral bodies is extraordinary and this high level of mechanical strength might predispose to adjacent vertebral fractures. A novel biodegradable calcium phosphate-based nanocomposite (CPN) for PKP augmentation has recently been developed to potentially avoid these issues.Purpose: By comparison with PMMA, the leakage characteristics, biomechanical properties, and dispersion of CPN were evaluated when used for PKP.Study Design: Biomechanical evaluation and studies on the dispersion and anti-leakage properties of CPN and PMMA cements were performed and compared using cadaveric vertebral fracture model, sheep vertebral fracture model, and simulated rigid foam model.Methods: Sheep vertebral bodies were decalcified by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA-Na2) to simulate osteoporosis in vitro. After compression to create wedge-shaped fractures using a self-designed fracture creation tool, human cadaveric vertebrae and decalcified sheep vertebrae were augmented by PKP. In addition, three L5 vertebral bodies from human cadavers were used in a contrast vertebroplasty (VP) augmentation experiment. Occurrence of cement leakage was observed and compared between CPN and PMMA during the process of vertebral augmentation. Open-cell rigid foam model (Sawbones#1522-507) was used to create a simulated leakage model for the evaluation of the leakage characteristics of CPN and PMMA with different viscosities. The augmentation effects of CPN and PMMA were evaluated in human cadaveric and decalcified sheep vertebral models and then compared to the results from solid rigid foam model (Sawbones#1522-23). The dispersion abilities of CPN and PMMA were evaluated via three methods as follows. The dispersion volume and dispersion ratio were calculated by three-dimensional reconstruction using human vertebral body CT scans; the ratio of cement area to injection volume was calculated from three-dimensional sections of micro-CT scans of a sheep vertebra; and the micro-CT images of cement dispersion in open-cell rigid foam model (Sawbones#1522-507) were compared between CPN and PMMA. In PKP augmentation experiment, posterior wall cement leakage occurred in 75% of human vertebrae augmented with PMMA; however, no leakage occurred in human vertebrae augmented with CPN. Anterior leakage occurred in all vertebrae augmented by PMMA, while in only 75% of vertebra augmented by CPN. Furthermore, CPN and PMMA had completely different leakage patterns in the simulated rigid foam model whether administered at the same injection speed or under the same injection force, suggesting that CPN has anti-leakage characteristics. The augmentation in human cadaveric vertebrae was lower with CPN compared to PMMA (1,668±816 N vs. 2,212±813 N, p=.459, respectively), but this difference was not significant. The augmentation force in sheep vertebral bodies reached 1,393±433 N when augmented with PMMA, but 1,108±284 N when augmented with CPN. The dispersion of CPN was better, and the dispersion volume and ratio were greater, with CPN than with PMMA. Imaging of the open-cell rigid foam model showed completely different dispersion modes for CPN and PMMA. After injection, the PMMA cement formed a contracted clump in the open-cell rigid foam model. However, the CPN cement extended many antennae outward, appearing to spread to the surrounding area. The surface areas of the CPN cement blocks with different liquid-to-solid ratios were significantly larger than the surface area of the PMMA cement in the open-cell rigid foam model (p<.05).Conclusions: CPN has anti-leakage properties, which might be related to its high viscosity and viscoplasticity. CPN had a slightly lower augmentation force than PMMA when used in cadaveric vertebrae, decalcified sheep vertebrae, and in the standard rigid foam model. However, CPN diffused more easily into cancellous bone than did PMMA and encapsulated bone tissue during the dispersion process. The excellent dispersion of CPN generated better interdigitation with cancellous bone, which may be why the augmentation effect of CPN is similar to that of PMMA.Clinical Significance: Biodegradable CPN is a potential alternative to PMMA cement in PKP surgery, in which CPN is likely to reduce the cement leakage during the surgery and avoid the post-surgery complications caused by excessive strengths and nondegradability of PMMA cement. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of mitigation practices (slurry application methods and inhibitors applications) on gas emissions and identify the soil N 2 O production pathways in cattle slurry applied soil using isotopocule mapping approach. First, we compared the NH 3 and N 2 O emissions of cattle slurry applied soil in a summer maize field experiment in north China plain (NCP) with four treatments: control (CK, no fertilization), slurry application using surface (SA-S), slurry application using band application (BA-S), and chemical fertilizer application using band application (BA-C). Then, an incubation experiment was conducted to investigate the mitigation effect of nitrification inhibitors (dicyandiamide, DCD) and denitrification inhibitors (procyanidins, PC) and their combination (DCD + PC) on gaseous N emissions with slurry applied using incorporation (IA) or surface application (SA) methods. The results showed that the total gaseous N emissions (N 2 O–N and NH 3 –N) in field were in the order of SA-S (1534 mg m−2) > BA-S (338 mg m−2) > BA-C (128 mg m−2) > CK (55 mg m−2), and the dominant N loss contributor varied from NH 3 in SA-S (∼89%) to N 2 O in BA-S (∼94%) and BA-C (∼88%). Moreover, the isotopocule mapping approach indicated that emitted N 2 O of the slurry applied soil in field appeared to have lower r N2O values and led to more N 2 O + N 2 emissions at the initial fertilization period. The incubation experiment indicated that the N 2 O emissions of slurry-applied soil were significantly reduced by DCD (∼45%) and DCD + PC (∼67%) application in comparison with CK (p < 0.05), and the stronger contributions of bacterial denitrification/nitrifier denitrification to N 2 O production were revealed by the lower δ15NSP in N 2 O using the isotopocule mapping approach. In conclusion, in NCP the gaseous losses of the slurry applied field can be largely reduced by using incorporation method, and greater reduction could be achieved given the simultaneous application of nitrification/denitrification inhibitors. Following the enactment of a generic ban in China in 2021, the synthetic cannabinoid market has been evolving, now encompassing even wider structural diversity. Compounds carrying a brominated core such as ADB-5'Br-BUTINACA (ADMB-B-5Br-INACA) and tail-less analogs, such as ADB-5'Br-INACA (ADMB-5Br-INACA), MDMB-5'Br-INACA, and ADB-INACA (ADMB-INACA), have been detected since late 2021. This study investigated the cannabinoid receptor (CB) activation potential of synthesized (S)-enantiomers of these substances, as well as of two predicted analogs MDMB-5'Br-BUTINACA (MDMB-B-5Br-INACA) and ADB-5'F-BUTINACA (ADMB-B-5F-INACA), using CB 1 and CB 2 β-arrestin 2 recruitment assays and a CB 1 intracellular calcium release assay. Surprisingly, the tail-less (S)-ADB-5'Br-INACA and (S)-MDMB-5'Br-INACA retained CB activity, albeit with a decreased potency compared to their tailed counterparts (S)-ADB-5'Br-BUTINACA and (S)-MDMB-5'Br-BUTINACA, respectively, which were potent and efficacious CB 1 agonists. Also, at CB 2 , tail-less analogs showed a lower potency but increased efficacy. Removing the bromine substitution ((S)-ADB-INACA) resulted in a reduced activity at CB 1 ; however, this effect was less prominent at CB 2 . Looking at tailed analogs, replacing the bromine with a fluorine substitution ((S)-ADB-5'F-BUTINACA) resulted in an increased potency and efficacy at both receptors. Furthermore, as ADB-5'Br-INACA and MDMB-5'Br-INACA have been frequently detected together in Scottish prisons, this study also evaluated the CB 1 receptor activation potential of different mixtures of their respective reference standards, showing no unexpected cannabimimetic effect of combining both substances. Lastly, two powders seized by Belgian Customs and confirmed to contain ADB-5'Br-INACA and MDMB-5'Br-INACA, respectively, were assessed for CB activity. A new simple method for chlorine percentage calculations (method C), from proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H NMR) spectroscopy, has been established and applied to an industrial chlorinated paraffin (CP) mixture and 13 single-chain CPs of known carbon chain lengths. Two modified methods (method A and B), originating from the work of Sprengel et al., have been utilized on the same single-chain mixtures. All samples were analysed by 1 H NMR and two-dimensional heteronuclear quantum coherence (HSQC) for this purpose. All three methods worked well for medium chlorinated (45-55% Cl) single-chain mixtures of known carbon chain lengths. Method A yielded the best result for mixtures of lower chlorine content (<45% Cl), method C gave better estimations for higher chlorine contents (>55% Cl). Compared to Mohr's titration, method A showed a deviation of 0.7-7.8% (3.6% average), method B 4.1-11.3% (7.0% average) and method C 0.6-11.6% (5.2% average), for all 13 single-chain mixtures. Background: In recent years, many studies have explored the potential prognostic utility of C-reactive protein/albumin ratio (CAR) in patients with gastric cancer (GC), however, the results remain conflicting. We thus performed a meta-analysis to determine the association of CAR and prognosis of GC., Methods: This meta-analysis was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) Statement. PubMed, Web of science, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) of included studies were pooled to estimate the prognostic value of CAR., Results: Eight studies with a total of 3,216 patients were included in this meta-analysis. High CAR was significantly associated with poor OS (HR = 1.59, 95%CI = 1.36-1.85, p<0.001) and worse CSS (HR = 1.65, 95%CI = 1.21-2.25, p = 0.002). In addition, high CAR was significantly associated with male sex (OR = 1.80, 95%CI = 1.31-2.47, p<0.001), advanced tumor stage (OR = 2.14, 95%CI = 1.48-3.09, p<0.001), and tumor size ≥3cm (OR = 2.69, 95%CI = 1.84-3.93, p<0.001)., Conclusion: Elevated pretreatment CAR is a prognostic marker of poor OS and CSS in patients with GC. Background: The peacekeeping military units of contributing countries are unfamiliar with the conditions prevailing in foreign mission areas and therefore have difficulties with medical supplies storage., Aim: The aim of this study is to provide reasonable and practical guidance on the maintenance of medical supplies in the peacekeeping military units of contributing countries., Materials and Methods: A total of 1,972 prescriptions were received by the pharmacy in the peacekeeping level II hospital in the Republic of Sudan from February to July of 2009 including a total of 186 drug categories and 17,713 minimum packing units. Pairwise comparison was performed using the c2 test. When the total number of samples was smaller than 40, the Fisher's exact test was adopted for pairwise comparison., Results: The majority of the consumed medicines mainly belonged to 6 categories, including specialty drugs, anti-microbial drugs, Chinese patent medicines, gastrointestinal drugs, central nervous system drugs, and drugs regulating fluids, electrolytes, and acid-base balance. Altogether, the drugs in the 6 categories accounted for 74% of all consumed medicines that were divided into a total of 20 categories., Conclusions: Medicine consumption in peacekeeping level II hospitals is unique, therefore the drugs used in military medical facilities should be prepared according to their actual needs in the area of peacekeeping operations.

β-lactoglobulin (β-LG) is the major whey protein in the milk. In order to investigate the polymorphism of β-LG variant B precursor (β-LG B*: GenBank accession no. DQ489319) gene and its effects on the milk traits, the single-strand conformation polymorphism method (PCR-SSCP) were adopted to analyze polymorphism between 5229th and 5476th bp in the β-LG B* gene in Chinese Holstein. Four genotypes were found (AA, AB, AC and ABC) and 3 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were detected (g.5239C>A, g.5240A>C, g.5305C>T and mix type g.5305C/T) in the exon 4 of β-LG B* gene. It was also found that the protein contents of AB, AC and ABC dairy cows were higher than AA (P < 0.05), and AC cows were the highest among them. Three SNPs (g.5239C>A, g.5240A>C and g.5305C>T) might affect the milk trait and all of them were high polymorphism (0.5 < PIC < 1.0). In further researches, the three SNPs also caused amino acid change (Asp>Glu, Thr>Pro and Ala>Val) respectively, and the spatial secondary and tertiary structure forecasting result also showed that single amino acid change influence protein spatial structure change in Chinese Holstein. Taken together, it is suggested that these SNPs change β-LG B* gene structure and expression. The polymorphism possibly holds the secret of milk protein and fat contents in the milk of Chinese Holstein.
